This location is very convenient for me! I love to pop in to shop for clothes for my little ones. I have gotten really lucky on shoes, school uniforms, swim suits, and clothing items. They usually sell based on what season it is, and they switch over to the new season about 1-2 months a head of time. I have sold here a few times. Clothing items I typically receive $1 per item. Unfortunately they don't pay the same day, they send you a check that takes up to 3 weeks to arrive. I have personally found that the customer service is typically basic and no one has ever stood out, nothing to write home about. read more

Selling Experience: I brought in 2 bins full of clothes ranging from newborn to 3T clothes about 10 minutes after opening. About 2.5-3 hours later, I got the text that my items were done. Received $73 for 70 items! I didn't expect to come out with a ton of money so I was happy with the offer. Note for future selling: Lay items flat (folded clothes take longer for them to sort) Bring items in sturdy bags or plastic bins (no trash bags) Limit is 2 boxes per day, per seller read more

Hubby and I stopped by with our 1 year old to check out there 50% off Halloween sale! They also have 70% off Clearance sale until 11/2! Mirarose is excited to go Trick-or-Treating in her Minnie Mouse costume and is now all stocked up for the cooler months! This second hand business sells a variety of gently used clothing, bows, toys, shoes, diaper bags, variety of kids equipment and more at amazing prices! I love their rewards program and how it can be used at their various locations!! You can also bring in the above to sell, gives it a second life and saves you money! Great staff too! Recently found out about this store. Loved that it's clean and organized. Also the variety of clothes for all ages is very convenient. When I come with my kids, I let them pick out which clothes they like and the we finalize together. Prices are great, especially since kids go through their clothes so fast. Also very friendly service from employees. read more

I love this place. They are great for kids with growing spurts and emergency party wear is always available. Staff is friendly and the place is clean and well stocked. The clearance and specials and prices are the best!! read more

I drove 40 minutes on a Saturday and arrived at 3:40pm only for them to say that they're closed for buying clothes because they have a lot of clothes to go through. So they don't buy clothes during normal business hours. I asked what hours they buy and they just told me when they're open for business. Customer service sucks. read more

It's a mess, and the prices are half the price of the if you were to buy them new. Some of the clothes are very old and not even in a good condition to be sold at $10 to 15 dollars. You're better off getting clothes off FB market place. read more

Customer service leaves something to desired, to say the least. I patiently waited for 20 minutes, giving the associates space to ring up a difficult customer ahead of me. After 20 minutes, they opened another register for another customer (so I was also cut in line). When I mentioned I was cut and had been waiting, I was met with simply an, "Oh, okay." I get that people don't get paid enough to care to catch certain things, but honestly I wouldn't be writing this review if I had gotten a simple apology. It's extra frustrating as those were not 20 minutes of passively waiting, but waiting as I entertained a toddler (from touching all the toys being sold by the register) while bumbling around 9 months pregnant. There is a sign that said customers must "be kind" or service will be refused. But it's so wrong to give the kindness of courtesy, with much effort, just to be overlooked because I don't cause as much trouble as the next person. Yes, there is more context -- it was unclear to me where the line started because there were a few members in the party being checked out ahead of me taking up a lot of the checkout, and none of the employees would give me the time of day, which is normally fine. I actually started queuing up in the right place and moved to the other side because of that. Regardless of if I was where I was supposed to be, it's not hard to see me standing there for 20 minutes... it's negligence, choosing to ignore it. Other than the person at the register, there were two other employees that could've caught me standing there. One was doing intake and the other seemed to be helping the other employee check out, so I didn't rush them. Agh, people. Just say sorry for the oversight. It's not even about customer service at that point, it's just rude. read more

Honestly..youre better off donating your items or selling it yourself online. They buy your stuff for so low and sell it for so high. I brought in 79 items (yes I counted them and took pictures before bringing it in). It was our first time here had to sign in using the QR code. Then she told us to come back in 30 mins. We came back in 30 mins and they didn't even touch our box yet. They said in another 15 mins and they will text us when it's ready. We got a text, came back in and they told us it was on accident and it'll be another 15 mins. At this point we were ready to just take everything back and leave. Such a waste of time. When we finally got another text we came in and she told us they rejected most of our clothes because they weren't able to take them. Either "over-worn" "too old" etc. mind you most of the items we have were worn once or twice. Since kids grow way too fast. We have a lot of name brand stuff like puma, true religion, adidas, nike etc no stains, no wear and tear or anything. Some were even brand new with tags. Seems like they mainly look for walmart brand. They said they took the maternity pillow and was only able to take a couple shirts and offer us $23.15. They didn't even show us what they took just told us "a couple items". We were thinking the pillow and a couple shirts/onesies no more than 5. We agree to it. I went home put everything out and counted everything again. Their "couple items" was a total of 26 items for $23.15. They took 26 items including a brand new pillow for less than $1 and they're going to resell it for way more. Some of their clothes on the rack were price almost the same as if you were to buy new items. I recommend counting your items when you bring it in or maybe ask them to show what they actually took. read more

Decided to give this location a try since I hadn't been in the store in years and was disappointed. I took 1 bin of clothes in for them to go through they accepted 29 items for $30 then as I'm at the counter checking out the employee tells me oh yea we're only giving store credit today is that ok umm not really. Nowhere was there a sign stating if you brought in items to sell it would be for store credit and no communication about it at check in. Also walking in this store it smelled funky the clothes they have to sell a lot of the items had stains, or looked like it was really outdated. A wall with shoes on display to much of my surprise the shoes were dirty and not in good condition Baby gear/ swings had stickers and weren't very clean for them to be expecting people to buy. I will never return to this location if you want gently used, no stains, practically brand new items go to the Once upon a child off Marconi they never disappoint. read more

A total scam. They gave away my clothes without authorization! If I could give 0 stars, I would. I dropped off 6 bags of high-quality clothes and shoes. The store called saying they needed to be washed because they smelled like storage. Since I live out of town, I called and spoke to two separate employees (including Kevin) who both explicitly agreed to hold my bags until the following week. When I came back (a little over a week), my items were gone. The manager, Maya, told me the owner had donated all 6 of my bags! She claimed they only hold items for 24 hours--a policy absolutely no one told me about at drop-off. They never called to give a final warning, and gave away my property (really nice clothes gently used) without my permission. Unprofessional and dishonest conduct across the board, from the staff to the manager and owner. They might as well just admit they only accept donations. Save your time, money, and nice clothes--do NOT sell here. I saw other reviews of a similar nature on Google. It's been going on for quite some time but I'll put a stop to this soon. read more

This store is great!!! We love coming here and trading in the clothes my now 8 yr old has outgrown! Gentle reminder: they take clothes based on season. So for example, it's winter and they are no longer taking spring or summer trade-ins. But if you time it right, those can be great! read more

Once Upon A Child - Being rang up! Woohoo! - Children's Clothing Near Me - Elk Grove, California

It is my first time shopping at Once Upon A Child in Elk Grove. So I have no idea how the store look like until I opened the front door. They have huge amounts of kids clothes jammed up inside the not very big store on the racks. The two ladies working there seem very busy at the cashier counter. But I still receive a nice greeting when I walk into the store. I don't really like the feeling of a overloaded store with hundreds of clothing all over the limited space. I am overwhelmed by the amount of clothing in there. It seems they were organized but hard to find what I wanted. I ended up did not get anything even the price looks lower than most of the kids clothes in the other stores. read more

Better donate than deal with these people, workers are rude and careless. Once Upon a Child is a great place to sell and buy gently used items! The pricing seems to be very fair for buying back items too.

I stopped by for the first time over the weekend to pick up some winter clothes for my kids, and I was so impressed! The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful from the moment I walked in!! one of the girls kept checking in to see if I needed anything, which I really appreciated. The prices were very reasonable, and I was able to find so many nice things without spending a fortune. I'll definitely be coming back more often. Great deals and wonderful service! read more

Is amazing the selection of clothes and great service ton of clothes I found every top need it from sleep ware to pants

Searching my son's room for items that can be sold or donated can be a sad task. It's a reminder of how fast he is growing and sends me down memory lane of his baby and toddler days. After finding a tool play set that he no longer engages, I decided to take it to Once Upon A Child. My intentions were not to cash in on it, simply to free up some space in his room in anticipation of Christmas. Upon arriving at the store, I was barely greet by an employee working behind the counter. When I say barely greeted, I mean that the employee only acknowledged me because I made unwavering eye contact with him. After ringing up a customer, he assessed the play set and told me to give him five minutes. After he and another employee discussed the play set and lack of room in the store, he told me that the play set is worth $35, and that they could pay me $17 for it. After accepting the offer, I walked out of the store $17 richer and a bit sad that I had parted ways with a toy that has been in our household for 5 years (yes I associate every item with a memory). I'm very thankful for establishments like Once Upon A Child. When the local food banks are not accepting toy donations, they act as an alternative. However, when businesses are struggling to hold on due to the pandemic, it's a bit disheartening to receive poor customer service from a place that survives based on reselling items that they purchase. Once Upon A Child...I need you to do better! read more

Amazing selection and the staff is always so helpful! Makes shopping for the kiddos fun and affordable!

I've brought stuff to sell here multiple times. They rarely buy anything! Every time I go they are always saying they are only buying the next season. They recently sent out a text saying they were buying toys and Halloween costumes but when I went in with those items and they had no clue. The sales associates were SO RUDE! They acted like me and the other customers were inconveniencing them by being there to sell our items. Their shelves are so packed because their prices on used clothing are OUTRAGEOUS!!! Management needs to take a good look at employees and business practices read more

I went in on a Friday to trade some items and hopefully get a good pay out for store credit. When dropping off my trade ins for pricing I was told to come back in a few hours? This was my first time, took about 40 mins.. nearly brand new breastfeeding pillow and some baby clothes. A whopping total of $10.. I understand this is a "thift" for babies and children you're practically paying new for used baby clothes? Average pricing for the clothes is $4-6 onsies were $4.. crazy considering new clothes the same price. First and last time coming here. It's nothing to hype about, bargain world, or eco thrift better prices. Employees seemed cold also won't be back. -4 read more

If I could give you zero stars I would. I will tell everyone I know to never visit this location. So hey if you're reading this don't waste your time. The woman working the counter was so rude and condescending and made us feel so bad for bringing in our name brand clothes in a trash bag..... whoever the manger is maybe you should discuss how your employees should talk to customers and maybe promote business instead of making us feel so uncomfortable that we left. I didn't hear her say it to the next customer who brought clothes in a trash bag. Obviously the clothes we brought are freshly laundered and if you want them neatly folded no problem but you don't need to talk to people like they are the garbage bag itself. read more

You know. I'm not one to writing reviews but I've given this place a few chances. I have gone to multiple once upon a child locations and this one by far is the most expensive and smallest one. The one in Roseville is even better priced. This location also has the rudest employees. I get working in customer service is tough and you encounter rude customers probably all day everyday. But man, their employees are something else. It sucks though cause this is the only location in Elk Grove and sometimes I just don't feel like driving all the way to the Arden area or to Citrus Heights. I also don't understand why their pricing is 5xs higher than any other location around..just because it's "Elk Grove" read more

This was my first time at this location. You have to fill out a form when selling clothes, then they tell you how long your wait time will be. I was given a slip with what time to come back. This location is smaller then the one I usually go to. The employees were very nice. They have a good selection of items. After I picked up my items, I was asked if I wanted to donate the items they didn't take. I declined and had to sign a slip for that. That was a first, not all locations do that. read more

I am so glad they're in our community! As a new mom I'm finding that kids grow up so quickly. Having them around helps me keep up with my kiddos constantly changing interests in toys and activities, get gently used clothing items at reasonable prices, and be able to recycle my own gently used kid items that have only used a few times. If you have a growing family, I'd definitely recommend you consider bringing your gently used items here for potential cash. The community would appreciate the items, and your wallet would be appreciative too! For sellers, they don't always pay for everything depending on inventory and quality, but you do have the option to keep what they won't pay for (or donate them). read more

Staff are very young stuck up and rude. They don't acknowledge customers walking in doesn't greet. While I was in there they were gossiping and making it very obvious they were talking about people in the store. I took a bag of clothes. They took it all but never went over how much they were paying me till I asked them. So after I used the balance to buy other items. I asked the lady well did u guys take it all. She then says with an attitude well if it's not on the counter then yes. But she had no idea what they did with the clothes I sold. I don't even think they went through the bag at all and just put a price on how much they were going to pay me. It doesn't make sense how an entire bag of clothes I was only getting paid $10 but then again she wasn't even sure if they took all the clothing in the bag. Management needs to do better and not hire girls who r very young and act like they don't want to work there. Don't recommend this location at all.! read more

This place may be fine to buy from but I do NOT recommend selling here. You will go through the hassle of bringing large items that are hard to carry/transport from the car, and then they will give you such a lowball offer they should feel ashamed. I was very unhappy with their offer but because it was such a struggle bringing things to them in multiple trips, I felt I had no choice. I brought a beautiful step2 play kitchen in perfect condition, complete with all of the food, pots, pans, spoons, etc. I had bought this kitchen for well over $200 new and it was absolutely perfect. Along with that, I brought a go-kart that was a very special gift for my daughter, and we had bought that for over $200 as well. Again, perfect condition. The only reason we brought it in is my daughter wasn't using it anymore and it was taking space in the house. I also had a shopping cart...very high quality, metal one, and a toy cash register. They gave me $24 for everything together!!! Ridiculous! I could have sold the go kart for a good $100 with no problem, as well as the kitchen for an easy $75 had I sold it myself. I will never support this place again, and would rather donate than to let them take advantage of my family. Don't sell here. We will never be bringing our things to once upon a child again. read more

I feel taken advantage of from the Elk Grove store. I brought in brand names- mostly Janie & Jack, Gap Kids, H&M, Carters, Levi's, Adidas, Polo, Vans, Abercrombie kids, and they gave me roughly one dollar per item. Some items new, the rest barely used. They picked my nicest items and told me they did a calculation based on brand/condition/need? I had no expectations so I figured I would just take their offer. But after seeing how much they are reselling these dresses and outfits for I can't believe they would low ball me so bad. They did go through my stuff quickly so I was done fairly fast, which was a positive I guess. But the girl who helped me was not friendly, sort of abrupt in tone and demeanor, & the other workers didn't smile or offer any help either. I got the feeling customers were kind of a bother. I went to a different location and had a completely different experience. They were nice, the store was big, more organized, cleaner, and they were more fair on the pricing. I think they all use the same kind of pricing system so I don't understand how there was such a difference in what they would take and the pricing. I'm disappointed, and upset, I won't be going back to the EG location anymore. They knew I'm not a regular and didn't know what to expect, and they took advantage. read more

I was in the area looking for a secondhand baby store to shop because kids and babies just change sizes and needs so fast, I find secondhand is a great way to save money. It's great that this is specific to kids and babies vs the thrift stores which don't all have big sections for kids or baby. This location is well stocked with product. We noticed lots of baby bath tubs, which was something we needed. They have tons of clothing in stock as well. There were some other little items like wraps, covers, kid shoes, and toys/books too. They do have sales on top of their regular pricing posted, and sometimes special sales if you're part of the rewards or text group. The staff was super friendly and we got a great deal on some clothes and a $7 baby bath tub. Not bad! We will definitely be checking them out from time to time when we are in town. My only concern while I was here was a giant roof pipe leak was happening towards the back of the store. I'm sure it's probably an issue the lease management is supposed to deal with which as we all know can take longer when its in someone elses hands, but it was definitely a little concerning as we shopped around. If you're having a baby or adopting or just want to start saving money on kid stuff, check this place out! read more

We have donated to this location and have bought books here on several occasions. After taking a look at the clothing selection I was VERY disappointed with the pricing here. We came across a (beat up & used) Munchkin sterilizer. The sterilizer was priced at $20.00 when it sells for $20.64 brand new at Target. Old pilling onesies were priced at $8.50. Brand new onesies at Target and Walmart are around the same price or less. We donate here hoping clothes and baby items will be sold to families in need. Don't waste your time here if you're looking for a deal. Use FB marketplace or a thrift store. read more
