I did not know that day was a holiday so I was looking for a place to have breakfast, I was going nuts, everything was closed, but driving around I found this place, Even the place was not open Steve let me use one table and got me some coffee and the best quiche I have ever had. Thanks Steve ! Will be back for a good breakfast soon !!!

Choctaw sandwich and Senegalese Peanut Soup

Small deli style restaurant in downtown. My co-worker thought it looked good, via online reviews, so we decided to give it a shot. Walked in and was greeted right away, im guessing by Steve, himself, and another nice lady working the register. They had some of their specialties on a giant chalk board, along with a paper menu, in front of the register. We both got the "Choctaw", which is grilled chicken and what they called Alabama BBQ sauce. The sandwich was pretty good. Roll was soft, and the chicken was tender. Maybe next time i think ill get it with some cheese, if possible. I also got the Senegalese Peanut Chicken soup. This, too, was really good. If you are in to curry, this would be right up your alley. I think it would be a bit better, if it were a little bit thicker. But that's just me. It was still really good. My co-worker also got a bread pudding and a PB cookie. He said both were excellent. The only negative thing(s) is that their soda machine was on the fritz, and they tried to fix it right away. They did have iced tea, so that made me happy. And, they plastic lids for their styrofoam cups didnt quite have a secure fit. Other than that, I hope this place really does well.

The service is very friendly. The food is my favorite in all Jackson down! Steve's Deli foods are the perfect thing for lunch.

Lemon Chess Square

I'm not one hundred percent sure, but I am pretty close to it on the following point: There are no words in my mother tongue to do justice to the near perfect excellencies of the sweet delight which I hold ("to go") in this photo. It was simply described to me by its maker as a "lemon chess square." Frankly, there is nothing simple--nor ordinary, run of the mill lemon chess square--about what delirious somersaults this complex delicacy made my taste buds perform. Steve Long, it's maker and proprietor of Steve's (self described as "Comfort Food * Quick Bite * Cozy") has never disappointed me in his sandwiches, sides, salads, or deserts. Nor have I, so far, walked away feeling anything but really good--inspired by and happy about having been with everyone and everything associated with another Steve's lunch. This comfy place is located in downtown Jackson, Mississippi (125 S Congress St). And so, here is my fervent plug: Lean back, relax, leisurely peruse the menu or glance up at the specials blackboard and ask questions of your easy going host. And then, when you're ready . . . EAT AT STEVE'S!

Come here for a weekday breakfast in downtown Jackson. I'm not sure if this place is new or not (not on Yelp, but their sister location a few blocks away was), but it suffices for a bite and a cup. Atmosphere is cafe as any other coffee shop (attchd photo), but the meal presentation looks like they don't have a dishwasher hooked up yet, or something -- "dining in" was served in a styrofoam cup on an aluminum pizza oven plate covered with parchment paper and coffee was also in styrofoam...no plates and mugs? Added a bit of "soup kitchen" feel. I asked about wifi and was told I could log in if I was a Comcast customer...whuh? I'm not, so I didn't (iPad w/AT&T LTE) Scrambler Bowl (eggs, grits, cheese, turkey sub'd for sausage or bacon) was good, but I felt like the styrofoam made everything seem as tho the dining was not as important as the selling. Plus a cup of so-so coffee: $7.36 New place? Maybe they are still maturing...I'll probably check back if I return in the next few months.

I first stopped by on Tuesday, and I got a salad with a few toppings and a loaded baked potato, which led to stopping by tonight. I can say that was one good potato and salad. So tonight, I went for an even bigger salad with pecans on top and a container of chicken salad with crackers. I actually ordered the chicken salad by mistake, but that was the best mistake. I was trying to order a salad, but I said chicken salad. I didn't realize my mistake until she brought it out. The girl working there was so sweet about my mistake, and I quickly interrupted her, saying that I could keep the chicken salad and order the salad too. Now, like I said earlier, that was the best mistake because the chicken salad was so good. I ate the whole thing in one setting. I even ate half of my big salad, too. So I will tell you this, just like the locals say, "If you are looking for a good salad, this is the place." But I would like to add that the chicken salad is a must-order. Not to mention that the people are so friendly, and the atmosphere is very relaxed. I believe if you could dine in, no one would leave.

If you want a big salad for a super reasonable price, this is the place to go. They offer custom salads where you can build-it-yourself with many different fresh options. I ordered the grilled chicken salad, with "tinder" greens (I'm sure they meant tender, but it's catchy, I think they should keep it ), with cheddar cheese, tomatoes, red onions, eggs, and cranberries, and the raspberry vinaigrette. My bag was hefty, so I knew that the salad was going to be big Everything was so fresh, I finished my whole salad, and I have to say say I'm happily full.. The lady in the front had amazing customer service! I got my salad less than 10 minutes. It was slightly hard to find since there isn't a sign yet, so once you get into the plaza, it's on the far left corner, on the side. There are a handful of tables that comfortably seat 2-4 people, a row of individual counter stools, and one larger table that can fit a group of six. Parking is easy and free in the lot right next to the restaurant, which is always a plus. I also absolutely love their retro-style motor lodge sign -- it sets the tone before you even walk in. Chef Wallace truly knocked it out of the park with the Nesters Fried Egg and Chicken dish. Paired with a side of cheesy grits, it turned into one of the most flavorful and texturally satisfying breakfasts I've had in a long time. The dish features crispy fried chicken, soft-centered eggs, jalapeños, fresh herbs, sunflower seed dukkah, shallots, toasted pepper, and a beet remoulade that ties everything together. The batter on both the chicken and the eggs was cooked perfectly -- crisp without being hard, and tender without being underdone. Dip it into the bright pink beet remoulade and it's a match made in heaven. The sunflower seed dukkah added a subtle crunch that elevated the entire plate without overpowering it. I was fully expecting the jalapeños to bring serious heat, but they were marinated in something slightly sweet, which completely caught me off guard in the best way possible. Every bite had balance, contrast, and depth. I honestly could not get enough. If you're in Jackson, this is a must-eat dish. Don't debate it, don't overthink it -- just order it. The service was also very good, attentive without being intrusive, and rounded out an already fantastic experience. Easily a five-star breakfast spot that I would return to again and again.

Customer service is incredibly friendly, both on the phone and in person. They really treat you right here. The burgers are classic standards and hard to beat. I also love that they offer a true vegetarian/vegan option with the portabella burger. The Bella is substantial but a little thinner than others I've had, which I actually prefer -- it allows for more flavor and crispiness. I'd recommend getting it dressed the same way as their classic burgers rather than the default build. The fries are fresh-cut, damn good, and come in bountiful portions. The space is small and clearly well-worn, but that's part of the charm -- it's clean, unpretentious, and you can see the entire kitchen at work. All in all, this is a go-to lunch takeout spot in Jackson and absolutely worth the trip if this is what you're looking for.

It was after 1 PM on a Sunday afternoon in late April 2025. I was hungry and didn't want to find anything that was open on a Sunday. It was best that picking up something fresh here seem to be the only course of action without having to traverse all over town for a bite to eat. There was two tables that were placed outside the hallway where the Nissan cafe was. The experience here was very quick casual. I probably took about 10 minutes from looking at the menu above the counter and decide to have some New Orleans cooking. The jambalaya featured that day was really good and delicious. I also had the brisket wrap, which was also delicious and a compliment to the jambalaya. I ended up ordering from the counter and paid for my meal, like a general fast food encounter would be. I told them I'll be outside at the tables. After 15 minutes, they brought it out to me, and I went to town with it. For the most part, though, I was thankful that this place was here and also was open on a Sunday afternoon too. It's for everybody and anyone who is here visiting the museums and wanted a bite to eat or have a have a drink while exploring the magnificent exhibits that these two museums have to offer. The Nissan cafe is a small little café that serves up delicious food for everyone who wants. The menu was simple and very limited though. Just a choice of a few items that you could order and it would be the highlight of your day here in Jackson, Mississippi. The overall experience here at the Nissan Cafe by Nick Wallace was good and definitely worth coming here especially when you don't need to be anywhere else but a museum in Jackson on a weekend. The service here was good, fast, and casual. While the simple set up was just that, it was definitely nice to have Cajun Creole food at your fingertips without having to scour the sea looking for it. If future travels permit me to do so, I will come back and try out more of what I missed the first time. The prices is here are not bad, plus you're supporting a small business inside a public museum. It's all good. I don't mind spending extra for a good meal that's benefiting the cafe as well as the museum. It was nice to dine here and I hope to come back here soon. As far as staff goes, you have to clean up after you are done, but they bring you your food after you purchase it. There is no servers, just a simple cafe that brings you genuine Cajun / creole cuisine here in Jackson, Mississippi. Aspect is to come here to enjoy the two museums here and have lunch. That is the best combination you could have on a weekend afternoon. Dress casually during the summer and dress warmly in the winter. The Nissan Cafe by Mike Wallace is located inside the dual museums - Mississippi Civil Rights & Museum of Mississippi History. It's physically located at 222 North Street in beautiful Jackson, Mississippi. The museums charge admission fees daily but also have days where admission is free. They accept major credit cards as well as cash. As far as parking goes, you might want to see if there is private parking for the museums first. I happen to use uber for my travel needs. And as needed, you can find street parking where you can find it. If you prefer Jackson's public transportation, consider the routes that's right for you and get here for the day. Explore the museums at your leisure and have lunch at the Nissan Cafe by Mike Wallace while you are here. And as always, uber and Lyft are always at your disposal whenever you need it. The only regret that I didn't do was grabbing dinner just before leaving the area here. That way I had something for that evening. Oh well. If you visit the museum, you should consider dining here and having a bite to eat. Definitely a good place for y'all while supporting the museum and the cafe. Recommended if you are in the area and love Cajun and creole cuisine like me. 5.0 stars for the overall experience. Support local! A+
