Talk about some amazing breakfast and people. With a family of five we like to each order something different and plate share. We tried the biscuits and gravy with hash browns and the gravy was nice and creamy. It had a hint of garlic whisk was great. The biscuits were fluffy and the hash browns were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the Inside. The huckleberry stuffed French toast was so good and paired it with the homemade apple chicken sausage which was perfect. The combo of the sweet fruity French toast and slightly spicy sausage was on point. The eggs Benedict was creamy and the Hollandaise sauce was the perfect tang. The full stack pancakes was seriously enough to feed two people maybe three. The service was friendly and the restaurant was clean. read more

Really enjoyed our breakfast at Steve's Cafe. Our server was Beth, who was absolutely lovely and efficient, and informative about things we should see while visiting Helena. Cute place, reminds me of my first job. Food is good. Reason for the lower in stars though is because of the server. An order for one kind of sandwich was made and a completely different one was brought out. When questioned, an excuse was given of it "basically the same" and "it's cheaper than the other". Then when asked to bring it back, slight attitude was given. On top of that, the same kind of sandwich was brought out, just minus one thing. At that point I just didn't want to argue cause I was that hungry. I understand the logic, but it doesn't matter cause it was not what was ordered. One of my favorite places to eat is Steve's Cafe for breakfast. I normally get either the Hunters or the Italian Joe plus my 2 sides. They are reasonably priced and the food is delicious. The hours are a little different because of staffing issues so we either go to one or the other. read more

Struggling w how this place has 4.5 stars. First our waitress was lovely. Very nice southern lady and the service was excellent. Now to the part we came here for. Food/breakfast to be exact. It's hard to screw up breakfast but man they did a fine job of doing that. "Most famous corned beef in MT" umm not even close. It was inedible. Way to salty. And burnt to a crisp. Basted eggs were over hard. Not basted. Biscuit could have been harder only if it was a bowling ball. My wife's pancakes were good and a large enough portion to share. Pretty disappointed. The food here is good and they have a lot of gluten free options which I was really happy about. We had a server that was really slow, nice enough but so many people that got seated after us got their food way before us. We enjoyed the food and I know that restaurants are having a hard time with staffing but it really does affect the experience. Anyway had huckleberry pancakes with huckleberry sauce and since I don't have pancakes very often it was a nice treat! We also enjoyed homemade corned beef and chicken Apple sausage. Never even got to sit down to rate the service or food but went in and put our name down for a table for 2. Was told 15 to 20 minutes, so we waited. As we waited, probably 8 parties came in to check in, and wouldn't you believe it, only a 15 to 20 minute wait for them to. After 30 minutes of waiting, another couple came in and was told 15 to 20 but waited 3 minutes and got sat. Obviously had an inside connection, but we just waited. Another gold mine in Montana! We started our normal Yelp search for breakfast. It brought us to Steve's Cafe on Custer. We arrived a bit past 11:30 AM just as the lunch rush was gaining momentum. The staff was polite, friendly, helpful, courteous - get the point? The entire facility is warm and welcoming. They made us feel like family! OMG the menu is vast and it took a while to make our selections. Garden omelette with hash browns and pancakes for the hubby. I had their house made chicken and apple sausage and two eggs with hash browns and pancakes. The serving sizes are huge! The omelette was thick and fluffy and stuffed with lots of veggies. They included plenty of cheddar cheese. The chicken apple sausage was HUGE! Think two to three of your normal store bought. The meat was low fat but rich in flavor! The sugar finish was brown sugar I think. They sell their house made sausages - 3 for $5.25, a great deal in my mind. Now to my favs! The hash browns were Yukon golds - shredded and grilled with a nice outer crisp. The eggs were cooked perfectly! And the pancakes were thick and fluffy! They serve them with a nice brown sugar syrup is my best guess. Try it - you will love it! read more

I was very surprised, usually a cafe serves basic breakfast food that's made with basic ingredients. This cafe was pretty dang tasty. I was very excited to find out there breakfast sausages were made in house and you can order all three of them in one meal. Being the meat eater that I am I was extremely happy with the turn out. Three huge sausages delivered on one plate, plus my eggs and hash browns on another. I felt like Ron Swanson on parks and rec. "When I eat, it's the food that is scared." There where three different types of homemade sausages: apple wood chicken, Not my best Italian sweet sausage , kinda my best Mexican chipotle sausage, theeee Best!!!!! I visited Steve's Cafe with Mr. Hottie and the Lovely Erin on a beautiful Helena, MT morning. I was pouting a bit because I wasn't my usual diva-goddess self and didn't have time to get all dolled up for breakfast. Well we walked in to a quaint cafe and were immediatley greeted. There were two other gentlemen waiting ahead of us. One of them commented to me that it was busy today and then he turned, looked at me and said "Wow, you look pretty!" *DING* Who wants french toast?!?! I was immediatley excited for breakfast! We were seated in a booth and were waited on by a friendly waitress. I ordered 2 eggs over easy, hashbrowns, a biscuit with gravy and 1 piece of french toast. Everything was A-OK! The only complaint I had was that the biscuit wasn't open. It was just a biscuit with gravy on top. I like my biscuit open so the gravy goodness can soak the soft insides! MMmm. Everything else was solid! The cafe did not slow down at all. It had patrons coming in and out during our whole visit. I read their lunch special and it sounded delicious! Steve's Cafe is a solid choice for a non-chain breakfast! The menu is simple and the meals are good! I hope to visit Steve's for lunch to try their comfort food offerings sometime! read more

There are definitely some things I've had on the menu that I like better than others, but I've never been let down or disappointed with any meal. A couple of my favs are the corned beef & the garden omelette (without olives, add mushroom). But, I like the homemade sausage & pancakes too - yum! I've always had a good experience with the staff. Though it took a bit to get a seat it was worth the wait. The most difficult part of eating here was finding parking and finding a place to stand while waiting. The place was packed and it seemed to be a lot of local regulars. The waiter came over quickly with water and menus. We asked for a few moments and away he went. The place was hoping both customers and staff. Tables did not stay dirty for long once someone left - they cleaned and seated the next folks as soon as possible. When the waiter came back we gave him our order. The food came out quickly and we soon realized that the portions were larger than we were hungry!
