I have to say my experience at Steven's bike shop was absolutely amazing! After figuring out my husband and I wanted to get a bike to try and get healther we started looking online but had so many questions. We decided to come into Steven's to see if we could get some questions answered and look around. We were greeted right away when we walked in and even though they were super busy we got help pretty quick. Mike Eaton helped us with every question we had. He made us feel super comfortable and explain in detail everything we asked. Mike even stayed an hour after the shop closed helping us out. He made us feel like we were family and we never felt uncomfortable, rushed or pressured. I really appreciate the extra mile he went and he made a customer for life. Wonderful staff. Service department worked with me to get a bike in need of some love ride worthy without trying to upsell me. Once I let them know I'm a new rider and didn't want to invest much into it yet, they got it rideable at a very reasonable price. While the shop is stocked enough with the basics of cycling, pricing leave much to be desired. They carry very few brands (though the brands they do carry are great brands) and tend to be a bit more expensive than other shops around town. Turnaround on bike repair and tune ups is kind of ridiculous and takes about a week for basic stuff. But overall I can get past these issues because of the great location and my cycling needs. What I cannot get past is their horrible service. I have read on other reviews they really dont cater to the family/recreational cyclist with a beach cruiser or entry level mountain bike. Though I ride road bikes, and consider myself to be an intermediate rider with some knowledge of the sport, they don't treat me as such. When you go into the shop, they really make you feel like you're stupid for asking questions and that, if youre not buying the top of the line road racing bikes and accessories, you shouldn't be there. Everyone else I know has felt the same way. Overall, if I have the time to go across town to my two favorite shops, I will. In a pinch Steven's will have to do. read more

Although the selection and quality of Stevens Bicycle shop is top notch, the customer service is horrendous! I took my bike in for some simple repair and tune ups, was told it would be a week and they would call me when it's done. 2 week later and I still didn't have my bike nor a call with an update. When I called to find out what was going on the guy was very rude and told me that he didn't know if the part was in because it was being shipped from the east coast. His only answer!! I recently bought a bike here. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. However, I bought my bike in Clovis (instead of where I live) because my father lives here even though I live in the Bay Area. I was told it would take about a week to get my bike and told them I would be back in a month. As I'm driving there, I was told my bike was not there yet. Long story short - I ended up driving to the central valley multiple weekends in a row but I did get my bike. Sometimes things happen that are out of your control. I wasn't super thrilled to be going back and forth but they did make it up to me. This is the first bike I have bought since I was 13. I recently signed up for triathlons and after visiting many bike shops - this was the only bike shop that I felt wasn't trying to upsell me on expensive bikes I wasn't sure I wanted. Despite there being a minor issue - they made it up to me. Overall - when I go to buy a Mountain Bike one day, I will definitely check this shop out again. But due to the delays, I have to give 4 stars instead of 5. read more

I've been looking for a decent down to earth bike shop since I moved to the Fresno area 4 years ago. This is definitely not the shop and I won't be spending another dime at this place. Relative experience: been in the bike industry most of my life. Scenario: needed Derailleur Housing for a bike build I was working on for a friend. We cruise over to Steven's because they are close and opened on Sunday (only reason they got 2 stars instead of 1). They charged me $4.99 a foot for Jagwire Housing. I saw them pull it out of a 25ft roll. So guess what, I had to go and check it out on a distributor's page to find out what it cost them to purchase a 25ft roll. Let's just say that if they double the price per foot they should be charging in the neighborhood of $2.64 a foot retail and not $4.99. The 8 foot we purchased more than paid for their entire box. I'm all about a business making a profit but that is beyond ridiculous. Because of this they have lost my business and referrals. read more

These guys are so cool! My wife has this junkie beach cruiser she is determined to keep. The derailer cable broke and we brought it in. Instead of them scoffing at us for bringing in what looks like garbage, they gave it the same attention they would have as if it where a thousand dollar road bike. Very down to earth people, and patient, as our two year old demon son was rinning around the showroom floor. They also recommend to us a great pizza place for dinner. Amazing on the spot service when I was in a super pinch. Traveled from SF to play in a bike polo tournament and was in emergency need of work on my hydraulic brake. LOVE LOVE LOVE Steven's Bicycle Shop!! My first stop in was to see if they had a spring I lost from the quick connect front wheel. They found one for me... no charge and that was enough to remind me to go back to them for my bike needs :-) so, about 6 months or so later.... in the market for a new bike.... I knew exactly where I was going to go back to! The most helpful, professional and friendly staff! I wasn't real sure what I wanted when walking in but the staff walked me though uses of my bike, riding scenarios and BAM! I was able to find me a GREAT bike in my price range. They even went out of their way to custom cut my seat post to fit the bike frame I wanted. Loved the experience so much that I went back the next day and bought another bike. read more

I can see why people with less-than-awesome bikes would be intimidated by this place. You're hard pressed to find a bike for less than $500, and even then you can definitely get a sense of inferiority when you see the bikes with a five digit price tag. On the plus side, if you buy a bike here, you get free maintenance on it. Even though they probably have a million dollars worth of inventory and a lot of their clientele ride bikes worth more than their car, the people that work there are all very nice and are not condescending. The problem, if you want to call it that, is that their merchandise (bikes included) is mostly Specialized and Giant gear, so it is not inexpensive. They will do special orders without hesitation if you're looking for something unusual. read more

So happy with this place. I bought my first road bike from the Clovis shop and had a good experience. I was thinking about upgrading and wanted to check out the new shop. Great selection. I decided to test ride a bike and Jeff helped me out so much. I ended up getting the sweetest ride ever. He dialed in the right seat and handlebar fit. He spent a long time with the bike fit. I could tell it is his passion. I've taken my bike there a few times for simple tune ups and turn around has been great. I'm sold on this place. Walked in to ask a question, was greeted by a nice kid, he was upfront and said he didn't know much about BMX bikes and requested assistance from another employee name Kendall. And that's when things went down hill. Apparently Kendall is one of those one track mind people who can't multi-task. The jerk was what he was a jerk, short answer with attitude. Didn't even take the time to assist his own co-worker and/or me the customer. Well I took my cash and spent it at Herb Bauer. Paid more but had better customer service. Worst service ever. Bought a spoke there a few days ago. Owner told me if I couldn't switch it out, bring it back and they'd take care of it. "It'll just take a minute ." I took the the tire in today. First employee, took me to a second employee. Second employee said he'd help me in "one minute". He then went and helped 4 other customers. We're looking to buy a new bike, so I looked a round and only found tags on about 1/3 of the bikes. Then 2 handed me off to employee number 3 who kept me waiting another 20 minutes. This time i sat on a stool and tried to be attentive, so I could be helped at the first chance. At some point he said he'd "be with me in a minute" and then got annoyed when I asked if I could leave the tire and come back later saying he might not be able to get to it today. (??why would I stay until tomorrow??) When 3 eventually did get to me, he said it would take 40 minutes and would call me when it was done. Three hours later I went back to the shop and even though I could see the tire on the machine, employees 2 & 3 could not find the ticket, number 3 argued that he'd left me a message even after I showed him there were no calls on my phone. Eventually they let me leave with the tire (after I produced my carbon of the ticket they never found) and they charged me a $25 labor fee. Hey guys you messed up. I'm in the market for a new bike for one of my kids and at least 2 helmets. Our fam spends a bundle on biking. Five of us ride and we buy gear and gadgets. Give you one guess where we will NOT be shopping. read more

My husband bought our 7 year old son a bike from here today. Upon getting the bike home and adjusting the seat he realized he needed a 24 inch, not the 20 inch he had purchased. After several visits, I gotta say every single experience has been excellent. I've recently purchased a Specialized and Giant bicycle, I can't be happier. From the beginning the staff treated me in a professional and friendly manner. They know their stuff and they have a great selection of everything "high end". It's not for everyone though, you see if you want the best quality & service, you're gonna pay for it. This shop has it. Other reviews are unfair because they complain about the prices, go to Walmart and buy a Huffy. I've gone to other shops around town with lower budget products and I also received lower customer service. They say they have more selection between two stores, but they sell their bikes at a higher price and really don't cater to people with a budget under $500. Went in to both locations and they didn't have a bike in my price range and size. Said they would order it and it would take about a week, but with the vast selection they claim, they don't stock up on mountain bikes under $500. Other bike stores offer the same quality and selection, and offer the free lifetime maintenance. read more

So I don't necessarily like leaving bad reviews but when someone disappoints my son it is warranted. On Sunday I took a bike in for a "deluxe tune" this was a gift for my son. He want this bike fixed up for his birthday and six grade graduation. The bike mechanic quoted me a price that in my opinion was way to high but my son had his heart set on fixing this bike. After we agreed on the price he stated it would be fixed and like new on Wednesday "today". Then I paid for the repair. Today when my son got home from school he was jazzed to go get his bike. We live over 30 minutes away and had not got a call so I called them before making the drive. The girl could not find my work order at first. Then she came back and told me that it was not done. When I asked when it was going be done she could not give me an answer and she said she would have a bike mechanic call me back. Meanwhile my son is epically disappointed!! read more

Had a very great experience with both Stevens bike stores today .We stopped by fresno store first to see what they carried. Went in looking to purchase 2 bikes a mid range mountain bike and a very high-end road bike. They had both of the bikes that we were looking for but in a larger size.They called up there Clovis store to see if they had the size we needed and they did. We took a drive out to the Clovis store to check out the bikes which for us was not an inconvenience knowing they had what we were looking for . Arrived at Clovis and was greeted the minute we came in the door. I've read all the reviews about how people are complaining that the bikes are too expensive .I would gladly pay for a better built bike then one from a drugstore. Remember you always get what you pay for. I also read all the reviews how you need to skip these stores and go to their competitor because their prices are better and their customer service is superior, but I went onto their competitors website and their bikes more expensive than the bikes here at Stevens. Their competitors also carry mid-range mountain bikes and high end road bikes with the same components and they're still more expensive then Stevens .Stevens prices are still more reasonable than their competitors mentioned in these reviews. Their customer service is outstanding so for the people that are on here complaining that they brought their bike in to have there tire changed and it took Stevens forever to get around to it. That it should have taken only a few seconds to fix,why didnt you just do it youself ?The other reviews also complained that they ignore you, that they're rude and that they don't want to help you and they treat you like you are stupid .This is not at all true the whole time I spent in the store was about two and a half to three hours with all my questions with all the fitting for the right size bikes and the entire time I watched other customers come in and be greeted with courtesy and respect .Young boys on their BMX bikes that were not the stores brands they carried and they still helped them out in there service department tuning up their bikes without hassling them and gladly helping them.
