Very kind and incredibly knowledgeable. He is a master technician as well as a sewing machine historian. You could make a documentary off this guy he knows so much. (Did you know a sewing machine needs a periodic tuneup, like a car?) I would drive miles to see him if I had to. Pricing was absolutely reasonable. And he had some great stories about the sewing machine trade, about kids -- boys as well as girls -- earning scholarships to fashion design schools, about his coming up in the business with his father, and so on. I believe he could tell anyone anything they needed to know about sewing machines past and current. Highly, highly recommended. read more

I am new to the sewing world and found us sewing machine via yelp. I tried calling to get a quote over the phone but now answer. No problem- went in person and John the owner was amazing. He knew exactly why was wrong with my machine and went above and beyond to provide explanations of the scope of work and the pricing associated with. To do routine maintenance on my machine it was 99.95 plus a $20 extra to fix another issue. Timing was great. A little less than a week. They also guarantee service for 2 years. read more

They repaired my grandmothers old neglected sewing machine and did a great job rescuing it. Price and turnaround time both very reasonable. Would highly recommend. read more

visited US Sewing Machine recently, and my experience was generally positive, though there are a few aspects worth noting. For starters, I would not rely on the online business hours listed on Apple Maps. I arrived around 4:00 p.m. on a Saturday, expecting at least thirty minutes to browse and ask questions, but the store was already preparing to close. The owner did communicate this to me politely and asked if I needed any assistance, which I appreciated as a gesture of courtesy. Additionally, I learned that the store is not open on Sundays, contrary to what Apple Maps indicated. While this may cause some inconvenience for potential customers, the in-person interaction with the owner demonstrated a willingness to help within the time available. Overall, I would advise verifying store hours directly before planning a visit. read more

Very reasonable price for a 50 year old machine with hard to find parts. When he failed to have machine ready 7 days later he gave me a 20% discount for being 1 day late. Part required were new at an extremely reasonable price. It may not be your professional corporate style store many expect but it is by far the best customer service experience I have come across in a very long time. read more

My machine needed to be serviced. A part also needed to be replaced. John was "Johnny on the Spot". He had the part that another shop said could not be found and fixed my machine. I really enjoyed learning about what threads to use with what materials. I would not take my machine to any other shop. My 50 year old Athena 500 works as well as it did 50 years ago. Thank you so much John. Hope to see you again to just chat. read more

Purchased a vintage Kenmore sewing machine. I'm very happy with experience. John also has done great work in servicing and repairing my sewing machines. read more

Amen to Griselda's review about customer service. As a customer, I don't care about your issues with staffing. I'd like to know turn around time. I don't care if you are by yourself now. I'd like to know if I drop my machine off; is there an expectation as to when you may look at it. Perhaps an eta for when you would expect to be able to check out my machine. I truly don't care that you have a line of people, you probably should have planned better or not answered the phone for a customer that probably has a question that will require your attention and ultimately take away your attention from said line you are complaining about. More importantly, in the lines of answering the phone, hanging up is definitely not a way to win a customer. read more

Put my sewing machine back together in a split second. No charge. Very nice man. He has my business from now on. Another place charged me $150 to do pretty much the same thing. read more

The only place in Fresno that sells and fixes old seeing machines. The owner is very knowledgeable. It's not open on Saturday.

John is a magician. He knows vintage sewing machines and in my discussions with him I have learned so much! He has ready supplies whether belts or bobbins or bed cushions, can whip open your foot pedal and spruce it up in a few minutes. Prices are extremely reasonable. If he doesn't have a part he will order it for you. He fixed up my Elna Lotus which had a broken hook gear but had to be re-fashioned since they don't make this machine which is Swiss anymore. My machine works like a dream now, so smooth and quiet. As I said, a wizard! read more

This place is like a sewing machine museum! John (the owner) is very knowledgeable and interesting to talk to. I have brought several different machines here and have always been pleased. He is a one man shop, so you may not get your machine back right away, but he is very accommodating and easy to work with. read more

The worse costumer service I have ever had. The guy was so rude and seems to have no patience especially if you have questions.

I run a drapery workroom so my sewing machine is very critical to me. I took my machine in on a Tuesday and it was ready the following Wednesday. Very nice and knowledgeable owner and very affordable. Glad I found a fantastic place to have my machine serviced read more

I have a business in sewn product manufacturing and I've taken three machines into John for tune-ups, parts, or repair. All of my machines have come back repaired and cleaned and at a fair price. I've been to a bunch of shops around Fresno and I didn't seem to be listened to as carefully as by John, so that is why I brought my first machine in to him. I need my machines to work, and I'm glad John understands that. Another thing is, that I like all the extra touches he brings to the work. Little hints and tips pepper our conversation and I appreciate that willingness to go the extra mile. John sells sewing machines, give lessons, and does repairs. I don't know how long he's been in this business, but he seems to know a great deal of history. read more

This is the place to find your new sewing machine with expert information and instruction in handling your new purchase. Plus, John is an absolute wiz at bringing your older or non-working sewing machine back to life. Not only will the repair or tune-up be spot on but you will also have the pleasure of meeting a true "old school" master of customer service. Friendly, knowledgable, ready to go the extra step to ensure your satisfaction with any service you need from the U.S. Sewing Machine. I met this gentleman in the mid 80's when I purchased a Baby Lock sewing machine and he is my go-to expert whenever I am in need of a newer model sewing machine, a tune-up or repair on my current much used machine. Fresno will surely lose a real gem when John decides to retire! read more

I have brought my mothers 1950 era Singer in as well as my touch and sew Singer. They run as good as new. Can always get a little extra info on the history of the machines. Have also had John work on a couple of Berninas. Great knowledgeable service. read more

All I can say is never, never take your sewing machine to this man. I took an old Singer machine in to him and right away he starts telling me the history of my machine, that it is from old century. Do not believe him. I found information on my own on the machine, and what he said was completely made up. He tries to sound smart. He is the rudest man I have ever come in contact with. Never believe what he says. He got mad at me when I questioned him about the history, and told me to leave. Its because I saw his lies. Hateful, hateful man. read more

I took my machine in for repairs and the owner told me it would take a week for the repair. After a month, no calls so I tried to call him and no answer so I went to the shop and he wasNot there. After the 5th time I finally meet up with him.Once inside he could not initially find my machine. He brought one out and told me I didn't have time to repair it because he was too busy just look around was his words .Then he started to yell and scream at me. U S Sewing Machine - ALL high quality - Sewing & Alterations Near Me - Fresno, California

U.S. Sewing Machine is where my Mom got her Singer repaired in my long past youth, and they're as good as ever! Friendly and knowlegeable, John gives a level of service that's hard to find in this age of Big Box stores. The shop is filled with quality sewing machines, including workhorse vintage Singer machines, and many machines waiting for quality repairs. My own need wasn't for a sewing machine, but for a pulley and belt for a surplus sewing machine motor for one of my gem cutting machines. John not only had the parts at a great price, he spent a (very!) good half hour chatting with me about our respective businesses. He's a great guy! I'll be back to visit U.S. Sewing Machine when I need good advice for building a new machine. That'll be very soon! read more

We are back to saw, thanks, our machine good as new, your friendly customer service, made this a really nice experience.

I took my 40+ year old Riccar to John based on the reviews and was not disappointed. He made my machine feel like a brand new one and was so helpful from the initial call to picking up my machine. He even did a couple extra little things that I wasn't expecting. Top notch customer service. It took a little time but he was totally up front about how busy he is and delivered as promised. I highly recommend him. He knows his stuff and is a gem in a world of sorely lacking customer service. Thanks John!! read more

I guess the sewing machine taken in for repair has to have some personal value to you in order to get repaired or perhaps only certain peoples machines get fixed. I left my machine 4/20/18 didn't get a call back, after 2 months I finally went back to just pick it up. Just as I thought it was just how I left it. I did not receive an apology or explanation as to why my machine did not get repaired. read more
