I will always try and support brick and mortar shops, but when you have several employees standing idle while a customer is clearly looking at something on a top shelf. Then make eye contact with said customer and walking away to stand at another counter reinforces why the hassle free shopping at Amazon is killing these stores. I go to these shops to look and feel things I want to buy, but if no one is willing to come offer assistance, may as well shop online. Note to employees. 12/01/23 My pepper spray is no good! Tried to test it out and need a new one after it just spewed out the nasty smell. Lol! Came here and couldn't track down the area. Then, a very nice worker noticed I was hunting and was happy to help me! They now put them behind a counter. He grabbed me the best one. Great price too! The worker was very kind and welcoming! I like this location because it's usually quiet and I can go in, get what I need and go out. The staff are nice enough, but I've also never had much need for interaction with them other than checkout. If you go at the right time, you can get find some great deals. Mostly, I find deals on athletic shoes or boots around winter, but they run specials on everything. read more

Looking at the other reviews, looks like they fixed their service here because that wasn't the issue today. I was greeted and asked if I needed help immediately when I walked through the door, which kinda annoys me. I like to try and find things myself first, personally. I came looking for a weight rack that holds standard-sized plates to make my home gym look a little more official than just keeping all my weights on the bars all the time, and they didn't end up having it. I only came here specifically because my cousin had gotten me a Big 5 gift card earlier- and now I so obviously see how Dick's muscled its way into the sporting goods market... I should have taken pictures, but this place looks so cramped with shit just piled on top of each other, making little pathways to walk in some cases. In the section I was perusing (the weights) there was literally shit (ok, literally STUFF) stacked on the floor. It looked like a fucking indoor rematé (Mexican swap meet/flea market.) The sad thing was, all that shit stacked and they still didn't have what I was looking for- and I know for a fact Dick's does. Over charged me for bike helmet, and when I pointed it out, no apology was offered. Compared to LA--where I live--Fresno/Clovis economy is still down. Many half leased shopping centers. Went to big 5 in Clovis today with my son. Asked for 12 ga ammo for turkey hunting and the sales person sold him ammo that will not work in most shotguns. tried to exchange it for the right ammo and the sales person refused. Fortunately the mistake was made before someone could have been hurt or worst by using the wrong ammo. read more

Not really sure how this store is still open, the only reason I went there is because I used to shop there as a kid so I'd rather support them then a newer big box store. It's sadly a mess and outdated, their fishing section is a joke, everything's covered in dust. I bought $30+ worth of fishing tackle because I had a 10% off entire purchase coupon, I should've known something wasn't right when she didn't scan my coupon and just started putting in her own code. I got back home and checked the receipt, I saved a whopping 10% on the cheapest item I bought, some hooks for like a $1.28, instead of 10% off the entire purchase. Not even worth going back to argue about it so instead I guess I'll shop at the big box stores and save more money in the long run. read more

The service here was terrible. My Daughter is going to play soccer and we needed help to find some items. The store was dead and the only person we saw was at the cash register and he would not even acknowlege us. Cheap prices, terrible service. This location on Clovis and Shaw has been updated since I worked here in 2006 but the customer service has gone down the drain. I was not greeted when I entered the store. Initially I was helped quickly in the shoe department but had to wait 10 minutes to get different shoe only to be asked by the same guy who helped me "do you need help sir?" Uh yeah I'm not finished. They tend to hide out in the back area where product is stored. The cashier was very rude when I mentioned that the layout of the store has changed. If price is no factor I would suggest Dicks or Sports Authority. read more

Store is small but newly remodeled so they have more stock on hand. Their prices are very good. Was looking for a women's gym outfit and the prices at Dick's were way higher for the same exact stuff. Sale prices even bring them down more. Staff is very friendly, well trained and courteous. One tip, try to get the sales clerk for the section you are shopping in or a manager, not just someone in another department. While they will still try to help you, they are not a knowledgeable as the person who regularly works that department. This is a fact in nearly any retail store. read more

There was a very specific Mossberg that I was trying to order. Dick's couldn't order it for me and neither could Sportsman's Warehouse. I tried Big 5 with low expectations and Josh was able to get it done for me. I was shocked. Josh really knew his stuff and made it happen. Everyone only has bad things to say about this place but everytime that I have been here I have been treated very fairly. Sometimes they are busy and they give you less attention but they have never given me attitude or have been rude. I recently bought a .22 rifle from this location and I was greeted when I walked in and I was at the gun counter for only a minute (which gave me time to look over the selection) before I was asked if I wanted to look at a rifle. I said I was in the market for a .22lr and he pointed at the two most popular while giving me a brief summary on them. He gave me them to hold and I made a decision. While waiting for the paperwork to go through we made small talk about stupid CA gun laws and I held a few more guns which he did not at all mind unlocking from the rack for me. I was rung up at the register he told me to have a nice day and it was overall a pleasant experience. The only reason I give it four stars is because everytime I make a purchase here the associates have complications with the register from a large purchase so they need the manager to help them -_- Other than that the consistent customer service keeps me coming back. read more
