Steve is without question one of the most professional and competent contractors I have ever met, and certainly the best termite inspector I have ever hired. I contacted Steve after another Monterey Peninsula termite company issued a questionable and incomplete report. With Steve's help, we were able to identify and complete necessary repairs for VA refinancing at a high standard of quality with minimal cost. Moreover, the "other" termite company did not even find some of the more pressing issues that Steve found, such as dryrotting floorboards underneath bathroom linoleum, and insulation in the attic that had fallen away from the wall (not related to termites, but fixing it has already saved us $$$ on our energy bill). We used Steve for Termite control based on our realtor's recommendation. Glad we did. I found some old termite damage underneath a painted area on the bathroom window 8 months after we moved in. It was invisible, and easy to see how it was missed. The paint above it was smooth and even, and it wasn't until I happened to be putting some pressure on the sill that the paint cracked and exposed the damage underneath. It was definitely old damage, and not from returned termites. I expected to face about $1000 of work to replace the window frame, and was hoping that Steve might offer us a discount based on his relationship with the realtor. Steve came in the same day we called him, apologized for missing it (I can't imagine how anyone would have seen it, it was completely hidden) and performed the repairs a couple of weeks later FOR NO CHARGE. I would absolutely recommend Howell. He stands behind his work. read more
