After looking on the internet for a pest control company to deal with our problem of a dead animal smell in the house I decided on Monterey Bay Pest Control and glad I did. A small family owned company who are very people oriented very friendly very courteous and very knowledgeable. Robby was the gentleman who came out to our house and did a very thorough inspection under our house to determine our situation. He advised us on how to prevent our situation from happening again and fixed the holes the critters could have entered. Requested repair of two trap doors, vent and screen and any other potential entry points for rats. Simple job of replacing doors over ground frames and attaching frames to exterior of house with caulking between front of frame and house. Monterey Bay Pest Control, Inc. (MBPC) agreed to use paint colored to match the house and apply two coats of paint to all sides of all wooden materials. New vents and screens would replace older, rusted hardware and all work would be discussed in detail both before and after repair was scheduled. There were several e-mails and phone calls exchanged prior to the repair. These have been retained as a matter of record. We were providing the matching paint to MBPC. On Friday, September 19, 2024, we received an unexpected phone call from Valerie at MBPC announcing that all work had been completed on Thursday, September 18, and payment of $1,278.00 was due. This amount was paid immediately via credit card. I reminded Valerie that we were supposed to receive pictures of the work and talk with the foreman about the details. Valerie said that we would receive the pictures and talk to the foreman on Monday, September 22. No call from MBPC on Monday, September 22, so we called and were told by Valerie that the foreman was taking two days off and would call us on Wednesday, September 24. We continued to call and e-mail every day until Monday, September 30. Valerie stated that she had continued to reach out to Desiree during this period but that we had to understand that it was the end of their month, things were very hectic, and Desiree did not have time to talk with us because she had to remain in the field and therefore, would not be returning our phone calls. We never spoke with the foreman. After waiting 11 days we received the pictures. Big surprise. The paint used was plain white and did not match the existing house paint as originally agreed. MBPC simply refused to use the paint that we bought to match the house. Additionally, one old vent and one old screen had been adjusted but not replaced. The large wooden ground frames were untouched (still dirty) and there has been no additional information about the condition of a so-called "tight seal." We are extremely disappointed in the lack of quality work and the refusal to follow our agreed-to plan. The cost too, lacks justification. Assuming a 6-hour job and roughly $80.00 for two plain wood panels, original rusted hinges, and a can of white paint, the labor cost would amount to $1,200.00 total or about $200.00 per hour. Meanwhile we have still not received a breakdown in materials and labor. In our opinion, the grade for value of service should be "F", for failure to perform. It is our opinion that since we were told that "Ozzie" had departed MBPC sometime before our work was scheduled (and he was our primary point of contact), MBPC is facing labor challenges and cannot perform up to its previous standards. The worst pest control company in the area. The technician never showed up for the biweekly appointments. I had to remind him to come for the service. Many times I had to remove dead rats from the crawl space myself because they were rotting and smelling up the house. I am very disappointed with the service provided by Monterey Bay Pest Control, specifically related to a bee removal job. I hired them to remove bees from my walls, and the experience has been frustrating and far from satisfactory. Initially, I was quoted $650 for the job. However, midway through the process, the beekeeper increased the price to $900, claiming the job was more extensive than expected. Despite paying the higher amount, the bees were not fully removed, nor were the walls properly sealed to prevent their reentry. Within days, 50-200 bees were entering my house daily. The beekeeper returned once to seal more of the walls, but the bees continued to find their way inside. He then suggested I have my home contractor seal the walls, as he was out of town for over a week. This left me with an incomplete job and an ongoing bee problem. I now have to hire my contractor to finish the job that Monterey Bay Pest Control should have completed. This is both inconvenient and costly. I expected a professional and thorough service, but unfortunately, that was not what I received. I cannot recommend Monterey Bay Pest Control based on this experience. Their service was inadequate, communication was poor, and they left me with an unresolved problem and additional expenses. read more

This place has been my saving grace. Most recently I had some flying insects getting into the house and didn't know if they were ants or termites. David came out and was right on time, incredibly professional, and let me know that they were flying ants and gave me advice on the best way to deal with them myself, since the problem was not severe. He also looked at a spot where I thought I had termites and said it was just wood getting wet. I would have believed anything and paid for anything, but he was honest and just suggested a carpenter to fix the damaged wood. David spent at least 30-45 minutes with me just giving suggestions on things I could do myself to treat the house. Additionally I have caught and brought bugs I found in my house (one I thought was a bed bug) out to their office twice now over the years and they identified them and they were not things to worry about. I'm a bit bug phobic and they are always patient, friendly, and helpful. I used this company last year for ant treatment at my home. The ants are back this year (normal), so I called to get someone o come treat them again. I heard nothing for a week. I called again and was told that a manager would call me back ASAP. It's been 4 days. Nothing. I do not recommend this company for your pest control. Either the chemicals are seriously diluted and/or have no effect on the insects, or they are not really spraying chemicals. While Tony and the service men are very nice guys, the first two applications were very minimal, they do NOT stand behind their 30-day window to retreat, and in short HUGE waste of money. Their treatment is insufficient, and useless. While they were supposed to treat all insects they only put "ants" on the contract, and no one noticed and then refused to treat for the spiders that were initially discussed before the contract and they knew we wanted treated as well. We were promised a retreatment for services rendered during the contract and within the "30-day" window. They never showed up. We subsequently chose not renew, and now because we cancelled the contract due to ineffective treatment, they refused to return and honor their own contract and have not and will not retreat for the service paid for that did fail within the 30-day window they allege to cover. The owner, Virginia, pretended phone connection was bad.....she was calling from a land line not a cell so you do the math. She will not stand behind the service and made statements that she did not have to. As in the other reviews, her business tactics are uncouth, she is rude, and certainly not about good customer service. Also check all the hidden reviews. There are many negatives - much more than positive. Speaks loudly - wish I had seen them before I spent the money for nothing! Done with them. Suggest you obtain your own products and do it yourself! (As per one of the reviews states the servicemen even told them so!) Way more effective and much less expensive. read more

Tony was The best, Beyond amazing and extremely helpful I cannot express my gratitude to this company! I contacted four other pest control companies in Monterey and this company far exceeded all of them. I had over $800 damage twice in less than 30 days due to rats inside my engine and inside my car! Tony came out and did a free inspection and explained in great detail that there was just not a rat problem but infestation. He explained rats would always be around but you need to get them under control and where I was renting they were not under control by any means. He gave me different suggestions and his opinion of each. I could not use rat poisoning due to cat on property. I believe one of the most valuable suggestions to do immediately,although expensive, was to have the inside of my car steam cleaned as well as the engine because rats Will continually be attracted to The smell of other rat urine and droppings left in the car and engine and will continue to come back. In addition, I had purchased literally two bags of different kinds of rat traps and non-animal poisonings, rat deterrents, Engine spray and every other kind of contraption known to man and he was able to quickly tell me that only one of them would work. This saved me hundreds of dollars by being able to return these items I had purchased! I had gone to everyone from Home Depot, Ace Hardware, Orchard supply and even Lowe's in Gilroy asking how to get rid of these rats. Tony had the answer! If I had only gone to him first! He gave me detailed information on how to trap rats and educated me so much as well as gave me peace of mind which was priceless! I am very sick and on disability and he was so patient and understanding. I tried to do all the trapping and cleaning out the dead rats every three days and rebating myself but found it too stressful, exhausting and overwhelming and you have to use gloves and disinfectant to keep yourself safe from the fleas etc.. So even on a very limited disability income budget I will pay the money to have them come out and do all the trapping for the next 3 to 6 months to get the situation under control and then will continue to do it myself from then on to keep them under control. Thanks to their expert training, Extreme professionalism and education! I literally did probably 15 hours of research on the Internet trying to figure out how to deal with this problem and Tony figured it out in 10 minutes after looking at the property. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate Tony and this company. I grew up in Carmel Valley and I am a local and you can trust my review. it was a horrible mess! I contacted MBPC to come out and eliminate the spider problem in the Pebble Beach mansion that I managed. They sent one of their applicators out to spray the residence. The spray left a sticky residence on everything! My housekeeper and I had to literally scrape the sticky residue off of everything! A local plant grower told me that MBPC had over-applied I called the owner and complained. She came out to the job site and denied any responsibility. Not their fault. She claimed that her company does this treatment all the time to museums in the area. "Where. I asked?". She could not tell me because of "Client Confidentliaity". Needless to say, if you have any fine art in your house, and fabrics, and flooring, cherished pets or any fine automobiles, don't let Monterey Bay Pest Control into your house! I would HIGHLY recommend not using this pest control business to take care of your ants. Two years ago my husband and I had used them and they were fantastic. The guy that came out knew exactly how to take care of them (by baiting) and gave us a few tips as well. Fast forward to now. The gal that came out to take care of the ants this time (and the spiders outdoors which this business seems to do well on) only sprayed them! My husband had even asked that they please bait the ants as we know from the past that it has worked very well in keeping them a bay. Two to three weeks after the gal had sprayed, the ants made their way inside!!! We first found them in the living room, sprayed Raid to get us through the weekend, only to find them reappearing in the kitchen. I ended up going to Home Depot and buying my own bait for ants because we knew that spraying the little buggers with poison wouldn't do diddly squat to their queen! The bait has worked so much better than whatever "bait spray" they used. (The only bait spray I've been able to find on the web so far has been for fishing and a large insecticide that seems better for cockroaches.) We then also used the bait in our bedroom because, surprise surprise, they found a way to get through the vent and onto my husband's nightstand. This morning, there were fewer ants and dead ants that got too high off of the STORE BOUGHT BAIT! If you want your over-friendly black ants gone, you're better off buying the bait yourself. read more

He explained what type of ant we unfortunately have, where they are coming from and how to get started on getting rid of them. He uncovered problem areas that I wasn't aware of as well. Buyer beware! I contacted MBPC to help with a flea infestation, after moving into a rental. Despite hardwood floors and no pets, I couldn't seem to get rid of them. Having sprayed every solution available over the counter, I was at my wit's end and contacted them for help. Mark came out to the house, and initially seemed very nice. However, he completely dismissed my concern that the fleas could be coming from under the house and refused to spray under or inside the house. He told me to vacuum, and empty the bag/cannister immediately, with his rationale being that I have a child inside (but, honestly, I have already been spraying so many chemicals trying to keep her from being eaten alive). This did not solve the problem, and after placing several calls back to try to get some assistance, I finally called Terminix of Salinas. When the representative came out from Terminix - a chain, no less - he was so thorough and understanding, I couldn't believe it. HE suggested that we needed to spray under the house, and agreed that it was absolutely necessary to spray inside. I know their treatment worked because I have actually been seeing the dead fleas. They were cheaper, and come back 10 days later to treat for any eggs that still hatches. I decided to call back MBPC and did get their manager on the phone. After hearing me out, he wanted to speak to the tech and promised to call me back "the next day." That call never came, despite three more follow-ups on my part, including a call to the dispatcher. I am now contesting the charge with my bank. Ridiculous! read more
