i received an email telling me i could get $100 off if i left a 5 star review. i literally laughed out loud when i saw it. here we go... everything that could go wrong on this last job went wrong. including this job, i've probably paid them $25,000-$30,000. i thought that since i hired him for work at my first house, things would go just as smoothly this time around (only 4 or 5 years later). first off, Jacob Jones was assigned to my job and installed 11 runs of CAT6 for a number of PoE (power over ethernet) surveillance cameras and WAPs (wireless access points). when Jacob finishes, he tells me to basically do an equipment test (which is ridiculous in and of itself given that he's supposed to be an electrician and should have test equipment himself, right?). none of my equipment would power up, so I went and bought a tester at home depot and took the time to test all the runs myself. EVERY SINGLE TERMINATION WAS DONE INCORRECTLY. interestingly, he wasn't even consistent in doing it wrong. anyway, because my wife and I work from home, we took an online crash course in CAT6 termination, bought connectors and a crimper and fixed the ones we needed for internet access. instead of apologizing and owning it, Steve decides to defend Jacob and tell me "well, he told me he knows how terminate rj45 and he said he was doing the them as the sun was going down...". no dude, your guy has no idea how to do this stuff. Brandon, the other guy that came out with Jacob, was assigned to mount/install the cameras. i told him to scan the QR code for instructions. mind you, these are the most simple instructions with like 3 or 4 steps. i don't think he even looked at them because one of the steps was to install a rubber grommet where the CAT6 cable feeds through the neck of the camera. all 6 grommets were left out of the 6 cameras. when the rain came, I started getting steam coming out of them because of water intrusion. so i spent a couple hours in the rain dismounting, installing the grommets, and remounting. so many other things went wrong. scheduling was a mess, drywall dust and trash was left everywhere, patching was subpar at best, one of my lighting circuits shorted out and it took weeks to get someone out to fix it, etc., etc. steer clear of this company. there are so many other qualified electrical contractors out there. I requested a GFCI Outlet be installed for my tankless water heater as well as installation of some light fixtures in the bathroom and in the family room. Had an electrical issue in the house. Omar came out and was very professional. He was able to fix the primary issue, but then there was a secondary issue that happened after he left. I came out of construction type stuff so it didn't phase me too much... secondary stuff happens. Steve Martin came out to take care of the secondary issue. He had it diagnosed inside of 45 minutes, and he was great to talk with. Both guys were helpful. Neither of them seemed to be bothered by the questions. I can't speak to Cavenee electric outside of these two individuals, but they were both professional and got the job done. I just recently had Steve Cavenee's company install a ring system for me. It worked when they left, but it did not work after that! They sent Jose out for the second time. He was really wonderful! He not only checked the Physical device, which he said, since it's not connected to my Wi-Fi, it will not work. He said, even though it was not part of his job that he would attempt to connect the Wi-Fi for me. Shawn came out to give us an estimate for replacing an extremely old heavy glass-paneled light fixture hanging from our 22-foot high foyer ceiling. We ordered a new ultra-modern lightweight fixture from LightStyles on Tustin Avenue in Orange, but it took almost 2-1/2 months before it finally arrived and the rewiring performed (from a 5-foot supplied wire/chain to the longer 15 feet of wire that we needed). Once we got it, I called Shawn and he scheduled us in for installation within a week. The techs arrived on time and did a great job of hauling in a 16-foot ladder without damaging any furniture or walls, and managed to get the job done. DO NOT WORK WITH THIS COMPANY. Dishonest and Unprofessional. Janna, the receptionist is deceitful and she even harasses you. I almost had to reach out to my lawyer. I own several properties in Orange County for over 20 years and have worked with many companies but this was the worst company I've experienced. 1. UNPROFESSIONALISM: I called Janna to fix my doorbell chime and install Ring. Janna said $165 for first hour and second trip fee is $45 and following service fee is $140. They do not show up on time. My initial appointment was 8am, then they moved it to 9, 2, then they showed up at 3:10pm. 2. Fixed the button on my transformer but didn't install Ring. Around 3:30, Manny, the technician left job unfinished saying they are in hurry. He promised that he will come back and remove the second trip fee and prorate the unfinished service fee. 3. DISHONESTY: Manny the technician promised that he will waive $45 and prorate the service fee since he had to leave job unfinished. I wanted him to leave me a written promise but he assured me he was in hurry and he will talk to the office and take care of everything. I should have never trusted him. LEAVE PAPER TRAIL. 4. Few days later, Janna calls and apologizes for all the inconvenience and to set up a time to finish the job. She does not give me an estimate so I had to ask several times for an estimate. She texts me $165 for service and $50 for parts for the second trip. Event hough I remembered the second trip is $140, I wanted to get the job done fast and avoid the hassle, I agree to her term. Few hours later, she texts me that the service fee is increased to $180, then few minutes later $210!!!!!!!!!! 5. I asked her why it went up from $165 to &180 then $210. I told her that she is not being transparent and dishonest. She starts to calling and texting me, harassing me that I prey on free work and leave negative reviews. Oh, she added that people will never trust my review. I texted her that this is my first negative review and all this is captured along with the photos of the mess they left. 6. I've owned several properties in OC for past 20 years and have worked with many companies. I've never seen this level of unprofessionalism. Steve, if you see this, please contact me. I had a lot of work done on my home for a remodel job. (Several thousands of dollars). For the most part things went well. I would have given a higher rating but after the job was finished we had a problem. One of the transformers for our under-cabinet lighting went bad. I couldn't get time to have them come back to fix it right away. When I found the time, I had them come out with the thought (wrongly) that the part was under warranty. Apparently, I was off by a few months. Thus, the bill to replace a bad part came out to well north of $300. (Frankly, had I known this, I would have run down to Home Depot and replaced it myself. It's not hard). When I objected to this they did reduce the bill. Along that same time I had Shawn come out to give me a quote on other work that needs to be completed. When I mentioned the situation, he let me know that he would look into it and since I was having a couple thousand dollars of more work done, he indicated that he should be "able to take care of it" Today, they called looking for money. I have three bedrooms to have can lights installed, two rooms to install a ceiling fan, a whole house surge protector to install and an outlet for an EV to install. These jobs will not be going to Steve Cavenee Electric. I guess it's worth it to them to lose that business. read more

The electrician spent about 5 minutes at our residence. All he did was show me the correct way to flip a circuit breaker and where a light switch in the house was located. Evidently, a flipped circuit breaker must be turned ALL the way to the off position before flipping it back to the on position. I didn't know that, and felt really stupid (LOL). Also, turned out that a plug in socket inside the house that I thought was bad was not bad at all. He showed me where the wall switch for it was located. Anyway, after spending not more than 5 minutes at our home and after not repairing anything, I get a bill in the mail for $160. Please be advised that if you call this company, they will charge you exorbitantly just for showing up. Lord knows what they would've charged for a legit repair! read more

Steve came out to the initial assessment. I was just throwing ideas out at him as we were walking around the house and he just gave me how much time it would take to do each task. The team sent me a quote and we went from there. They charge hourly, and it was nice to see that the start and end times were verbally communicated and documented via an app. Tom and Q came on time and were very conscious about how they divided the tasks. I have a hallway closet on the second floor that I planned to convert into a network closet. It needed outlets added and I wanted the ethernet lines to go in and out of the closet looking neat. My Fiber ONT was in the garage below the closet, so they had to run ethernet to the upstairs closet through the ceiling. They got it first try and ran it through the ceiling and into an upstairs wall to keep the cable hidden until it popped out into the closet. They finished it quick and it looks clean. Since they finished so quickly, I had them add an outlet on the side of my house for a security camera and future Christmas lights and that was also finished quickly. I also had them fix my doorbell transformer to provide my video doorbell with power using the existing wires, without using an external ac adapter. Our hvac system was not working.There was no power to the heater blower since the indicator light was not blinking at all. I called Veteran Air Hvac and they diagnosed 40 volts to the receptacle , a possible wiring problem and they said I would need a electrician to further diagnose since it is not Hvac . I called Steve Cavenee and the technician arrived in the window that they said. He thought it could be the receptacle for the HVAC but still no power. He was able to trace the wire to a receptacle that was wired incorrectly. He fixed the problem in about 30 minutes. After he corrected the problem with the receptacle the HVAC was receiving the correct voltage and is working fine. This is the second time working with Steve Cavenee electric and they did an excellent jon both times. They were honest and reasonably priced. I would recommend this company. read more

He and his team did all new can lights and chandelier light fixtures in our new, (40-year-old) home. The work was very fast and so clean. The prices are reasonable. His crew was very nice and friendly. Now five months later....I had Steve come out just prior to NYE, to consult on some additional fun lighting work for the outside of our home. The day before the appointment, our electric went weird, coming in and out. When he showed up, I let him know that we have a bigger unplanned issue we'd like to have him look at. He took that news well and was able to quickly assess problem. He advised us on the steps that are needed should his assessment be correct, and that this issue was a shot electrical panel. He even had his team make call to get required appointments with ComEd (required in SOC) so we can pull permits. He didn't even push us to give him the work, knowing that we have a home warranty, but he did offer to help us work through it. After a few calls to the (joke of a) home warranty provider, we decided we'd rather have SCE do the job because it's very important. The 'heartbeat' of our home as he called it. Then the next day our electric totally went out and luckily he was able to come by within 24 hours and jerry rig the panel for us to have 50% power until the work can be completed. So, in addition to all above, thanks to Steve, we've had a working lights, fridge, and furnace for the past week.
