It needs a storyline too. Enter Sterling Auto Body Shop... If you've been following my Yelp reviews for a while (and I mean WAY BACK) you may already know I have serious BMW MECHANIC PTSD. Some of my earliest Yelp reviews document the foolishness. So when anything happens to my car, I'm already preparing myself mentally for another episode. Thankfully, that wasn't the case here. Antonio, the manager, was very kind, helpful, and actually listened to me. Now, he likes to tell STORIES. A few too many for me, and some of them weren't quite landing, LOL, but I could tell he was genuinely trying to make me feel comfortable and help me through the process. He gave me a thorough estimate, told me how long the repairs would take, and my car was actually DONE within that timeframe. No chasing people down. No mysterious delays. No "we're waiting on..." every other day. THANK YOU! They're also a BMW Certified Auto Body Shop, which mattered to me because, again...Mechanic PTSD. When I picked up my car, I had to give them their credit. My baby was looking BRAND NEW again! The body work looked great, and they cleaned both the exterior AND interior before returning it to me. I had a great experience here, where to start. I was paying out of pocket / no insurance, and one of the owners walked me through what would need to be done and an estimate. Everything was explained very clearly. Following that, once Ieft the car there was communication of how things were going and if we were on track to have the job finished on time, and it was; a day early, actually. Worst car service ever in Silver Spring, Md. My car was in an accident (2012 Nissan Sentra) with only the side of my car dented ( back and middle) happened on 10/2020. They replaced a part that was not damaged. When I picked up the car all my lights was on (odometer, engine light, tires pressure, etc.) Took it to my Nissan dealer and they found the part that was replaced was a used/rusted part. Sterling Auto Body Shop took me on a tour of their auto body shop to show me all the service they do for cars in an accident. What auto body shop do you know that takes you on a tour? Antonio and his crew handled replacing the passenger door and some other damage on our 2016 Mazda. The work was flawless and done quickly and professionally. They dealt with my insurance company to get a reappraisal and payment made directly to them from State Farm. This is one of the most professionally run companies I have ever run across. They are clearly proud of the how they run their business and the quality of the work they do. They don't cut any corners. I know that they only like to deal with certain insurance companies but luckily for me that my company, State Farm, was one of the ones they prefer to deal with. If you have GEICO insurance, don't bother calling. They only accept insurance and DO NOT accept GEICO. They are pretty rude to customers about it too (as if you are the problem). They also won't let you pay out of pocket - as they only work with insurance companies. read more

While in the end I chose to take my somewhere else I was happy with the level of customer service I got when I went in for a quote. I went in on a Saturday morning, which in itself is nice since most other shops only offered weekday service. I met with the manager and he was very honest and open about the work he would do to fix my car. Since I was going through the other persons insurance he told me they are told to take the "less aggressive route" in other words put my car together with bubble gum and glue.. Since that's not something I'm ok with I decided to go else where. Customer service wise those these guys were great! Very open and clear about how long the work would take and exactly what they would do. They were also very personable, answering all of the questions I had and even warning me of the traffic cameras on my way out to not make a bad situation worse! In different circumstances I would have considered them for the work.. However I prefer to have my new car as good as new again.. read more

My experience with this shop was incredible. I enjoy the friendliness of the front staff, the honesty of the process from getting an estimate to the actual fixing. I was taken to the shop and explained how they need it to fix the bumper, what were the best and worst case scenarios and what to expect. Omg I can't leave a more glowing review for this place. My car's check engine light came on yesterday, and it's been snowing and now it's raining ice, so I was so worried about driving it and bringing it anywhere. I called here and Antonio was SO NICE! He had me check the gas cap to ensure it was on tight enough, as he didn't want me to come in and spend money on something that could easily be fixed. Two different insurance companies recommended that I go to Sterling Auto Body shop for the two times I needed my car repaired. Antonio and his staff treated me like gold and did everything they could to make my experience as easy as possible. No one is better than Antonio at explaining what he's going to do with your car and why. Also, I had to get my car repaired during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and the office was spotless. They wiped down the surfaces and door handle every hour and had plenty of antibacterial hand lotion available. I would recommend that you use Sterling Auto for any of the services they provide. Initially, I brought my truck in for assessment of tarp damages because someone tried to break into my truck bed. I was recommended this company 1st by our fleet company and for the most part they do not disappoint. When I arrived, I could see that the shop was really clean, because I always check to see if the windows are clean. I was greeted at the door, met with courtesy and overall I can say I had a pleasant experience, even got a free ride home when I dropped my truck off. The shop owner Antonio answered all my questions I had and even showed me around the shop, which was also very clean. This was the greatest experience I have ever had at an autobody shop. Antonio seemed to be the point man, but in reality, he's just THE MAN. A warm introduction and a firm handshake started the process. Antonio showed me a chart of what the process would look like. He then walked me through the facilities to show me where and when everything gets done. He was super responsive with phone calls and information and my car was done when they estimated it would be. I was out of town during completion. No problem! Antonio was understanding and was able to accommodate my needs. When I received my vehicle, it was far better than I had gotten it. They went above and beyond the repairs they were hired to do. They got all the moisture out of my rugs (i left my sun roof open for a week while i was out of town prior to dropping off the car). They removed some of the mildew odor. They unlocked the code for my back up camera(never had it working). They even allowed my girlfriend to pick the car up for me while i was away. I was involved in a minor fender bender and had to bring my car into a shop to get a few dents fixed. My repair was to be fully covered by the other party so I had the option to choose the shop I wanted to send the car to. Having never had that option, I had no idea which body shop was reliable so I had to resort to Google. Despite the mixed reviews, this was one of the few shops in the area that had any information on them. So I gave Sterling a call and set up an appointment with the other party's insurance to arrange for an estimator to come out (and they were pleasantly unaware of this shop's existence). When I dropped my car off, I was greeted by Martha. She was knowledgeable and gave me all the appropriate paperwork. She looked at my car and marked up what needed to be fixed and another employee took pictures. Even without knowing which rental company or location I chose beforehand, she called up Enterprise and an employee came out quickly to pick me up. (PSYCHIC POWERS?) Granted, I had to call to get an update on the car myself, the repair took less than a week and I got a courtesy call when my car was ready. It came back looking as good as ever. They even cleaned the inside of my car which is above and beyond what I expected. I was impressed that they handled the insurance company directly and I did not have to mediate this business nor did I have to fill out extensive claim paperwork. If I had to get my car repaired again, I'd go back to sterling without a hesitation. read more

I decided to give Sterling Auto Body Shop a try after seeing an advertisement on the back of my Giant receipt for a 15.99 Oil and Filter Change. What a great deal! As soon as I entered the building, I was greeted by Rachel, who was extremely welcoming and sweet, and offered me peppermints, water, and to sit in the lobby area and watch tv. There was another employee there named Maria (I think) and she was also very nice and made me feel comfortable. Both ladies had great personalities and I enjoyed talking to them. The oil change took about an hour and after it was done, Antonio gave me a tour of the new facilities (Nicest and cleanest Auto place I've ever been to! I was very impressed) and went over all my car issues and gave me accurate price ranges for everything. I didn't feel pressured to get any extra work done, and he seemed to genuinely be concerned with the well-being of my car. I plan to recommend Sterling Auto to all my friends and family and I'll definitely be back! Fantastic customer service and the oil change was efficient. read more

What an unfortunate experience. In summary: our car was returned over a week late, full of broken glass, and with things broken that weren't broken before they got it. They also offered many customers, including us, $50 bribes for top reviews. On to the full review: We had our car taken here after a tree fell on it, as it is one of the repair shops that Allstate uses. Our insurance covered a rental car for one month, but it took a good week longer for the repairs to be made. They repeatedly said the would call our rental place to ask them to give us a reduced fee - this did occur after the car was picked up and we got a $50 discount, which was good. The rest of the service was quite bad. When we went to pick up the car at the time we were told that it would be done, we were left waiting well over an hour and a half for it to actually be finished, which resulted in facing rush hour traffic on the way home. And get this: We were told we would get $50 back on our deductible if we gave a top score when Allstate called for us to review our service. And we're not the only ones. As we sat waiting for our car we heard the unethical guy up front make that offer over and over again to customers, especially the dissatisfied ones. He said that they get a copy of review comments at the shop, so folks should call back after giving a top review. He will check the comments to confirm, then issue them a $50 refund. Obviously they are not trustworthy and rig their reviews. The car was not in good shape when we got it, and I'm talking about basic safety issues here. We jumped in and drove home right away after our wait, but should have taken a closer look. In spite of being told that we were waiting a long time because they were cleaning the inside, the backseat was covered in little bits of glass. I took photos next to our receipt to prove it. None of the back seatbelts were pulled through the floor fabric and seat to be useable, and once I finally dug them out (wearing gloves to avoid any glass we missed) we discovered one was broken and wouldn't click down on the belt. The seatbelt receiver worked fine before the tree, and the tree did not touch that part. The driver's side view mirror was fogged with some chemical and provides poor reflection during the day and almost none at night. A front air vent was broken and hanging lose, and the front of the car wasn't even damaged by the tree as far as I know. Some of the detail striping on the top was not glued down smoothly and the rear bumper was freckled with damage from the tree that was not painted over. What if children had crawled into that back seat and cut themselves up, and later had no seat belt to use on one side?! Not mention the safety issues of the ruined driver's side mirror! We called to complain and were told to return the car today to have it fixed. They did give us a ride to the metro with the offer to pick us up at the end, which was good. However, in spite of being scheduled for today the front desk had no idea we were coming or why we were there. I even left a phone message this morning while we were on our way in, to make sure they remembered and were ready. Once they figured out who we were, they were clearly not happy to see us. They forgot to ask us for the key (and we forgot to leave it) so after we were already on the metro we had to turn around and go back to give the driver the key. I am now in the process of calling them each hour to push them to do the job right and on time, because they refused to give us a time to pick it up and we MUST get it back today. They're surely not giving us a comped rental while they fix their own mistakes that left the car unsafe. Apparently being polite, patient, and professional with them results in unethical treatment, bribery, lots of time taken off work to deal with them, and a car that is not safe to drive or even sit in once it is returned. Frankly, I'm scared of what else could be wrong with the car that we don't know about yet and I am considering having it inspected elsewhere, although that will be even more expense for us. Please note that I have been reviewing on Yelp for some time and have quite a few reviews. This is an honest and accurate review, and I hope that this helps save other people from the same treatment. I see that the owner responded to an earlier review - I welcome hearing from him with his ideas on how to resolve this situation in a better way and what he will do about the person there who offers bribes for top reviews. read more

I had insurance work done to my car here and it was done quick. Upon returning home my drivers side window wasn't rolling down properly. I asked them to re-examine how tight the hardware was on the door. They happily took my car door apart and investigated the problem. During that time the owner, Josue I believe took me on a tour of the shop and highlighted the safety features that today's cars have or lack. The tour ended with him showing me my car with the window working properly, and taking the time to help me better install my child's carseat. This was an excellent experience and I wish I had their business cards to distribute. I was happy to pay what they asked, and felt like they genuinely cared about me when I left. read more

I forgot to update my review! My mother-in-law passed away in December and we suddenly found it necessary to be in Florida for a funeral. I took my car to Antonio. He had his "A-Team" working on my car and said.. "I want to make sure you have a safe trip down and back". My car felt like a new car. For those of you who are fans of watching "The Velocity Channel"... this garage is climbing its way up to a par with Richard Rollins "Fast and Loud" and Chip Foose's "Overhaulin'". Clean, brilliant, top of the line paint booths. They have an "A-Team" crew of mechanics as well as a "B-Team". When we arrived there, there was an older gentleman from out of town who needed his car repaired. He had already gotten an estimate from another place, which was very high. When none of the shops my insurance company works with were reviewed on yelp, I took a chance on Sterling based on a gut feeling from talking with them. Boy was I right. They were fantastic. We dropped off the car and then went out of town for a week and it was ready when we got back. I was shocked at how quick the turnaround time was and our car has never looked better. The customer service was friendly and efficient. They went out of their way to make us feel taken care of. And they worked directly with the insurance company so all we had to do was pay them a deductible and everything else was taken care of for payment. I was definitely dreading getting the car fixed, but Sterling made it easy and although it's a little out of the way, I would recommend it to ALL my friends and fellow yelpers. read more

Yelp describes the 5 star rating as "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" and I couldn't agree more! Sterling Auto Service exceeded my expectations! From the first phone call when I spoke with Antonio through the time I picked my car up (within 24 hours!) the service and communication was top notch. I had originally taken my car into the dealer about my rear door not opening. They, of course, were going to charge me twice as much, and were going to take twice as long. Antonio gave me a quote for service based on my description and I was happy that his quote was right on! Not to mention that I had the coupon from my Giant receipt for $25 off of service. The shop itself is pristine - nicer than my dealer! Yesicka at the front desk was friendly and helpful. She and I did a quick walk around my car to go over what was needed for service. Excellent service here. Brought an old car for repair after an accident. I was very upfront about how much I was willing to put into it. Antonio gave me a very fair quote and did his best to repair the major issues. At the end of the day the car was going to need more work than what we had anticipated to be drive able. Most places would have charged me for the work and let me walk. Antonio reset the car to the state I brought it in, and charged me NOTHING taking a total lose on an labor or parts. A friend recommended Sterling and I went to see if I should repair the rear of my 2007 Mercury Milan although we may get a new car this year which has more safety features. My 2004 Chevy Impala was run off the road by a Metro bus and my front end suspension was done. Progressive recommended Sterling for the repairs since it was close to my home. This is the 2nd time I've had my Sonata fixed here. Both times my car was rear ended and this time the bumper was destroyed. Marta and Jessica are very friendly, informed, and helpful. They will call and/or email you information as well. They can explain everything to you and even show you around the shop and their process. They will deal with the insurance and car rental, making it as easy as possible. Antonio was very nice and gave me an interesting education on car parts. Bottom Line = They did a great job both times. They seem to care about their customers and making them happy. They clean your car inside and out (although this time the inside wasn't as well cleaned as before... a minor complaint.) After a terrible head-on collision, my car looks brand new! Superb paint job (I've had botched paint jobs at previous shops!). Great service and quality craftsmanship! Julie worked hard to keep me pleased despite a few set backs. My truck was kept a week over what they estimated due to no fault of their own. The dealership kept mailing the wrong part. When they got that part in they installed it and pieces were missing from that part. They also forgot to install a new wiring harness. I work in the automotive field, and was very impressed by their operation and professionalism. The waiting area was very clean and inviting, then I was taken for a tour of their shop. Antonio then inspected the vehicle and gave me an estimate. I made an appointment to drop off the car. After dropping off the car the work was completed in the time that was quoted at the price that was quoted. The quality of work was much superior to what i had received in the past.
