Terrible experience. The car came in after being detailed upon pick up the interior of the car was filthy and COVERED IN DIRT. I asked Yoon to clean it and he wondered around in circles. Wow!! This place is as good as it gets and Yoon is amazing. Important note: It's a sole proprietorship, he works on all the cars himself and he only accepts cash or check. The Damage: I hit a pillar in my garage and did a pretty good number with dents and deep scratches on my rear door and rear quarter panel. The Estimate: I checked out 4 different places for price estimates and Mr. Yoon's was by far the cheapest ($300 cheaper than the next lowest estimate). He gave me the quote and said he's swamped this week, but to bring my car in 4 days later. Which was great, and honest. I didn't want to be without my car for longer than I had to be. I brought it in 4 days later, he said to give him 2 days with it and after the 2 days had passed he called me first thing in the morning to let me know it was ready for pick up. The Repair: Amazing. He cut costs by repairing the panels instead of replacing them, and looking at both the panels you would never guess that there had been an accident or any damage to them at all. I was downright giddy about this. When it came time to pay, he gave me the exact price he had originally quoted- absolutely no run arounds or bs. The Extra Mile: I drove all the way to work and was impressed as I noticed he had cleaned the floor mats and washed the exterior of the car. Furthermore, as I walked away, the back of my car caught my eye. For 3 years I have had small surface scratch on the bumper. It had been painted and was completely gone. Out of curiosity, I checked the one other scratch that had been on my car for years- also repainted and gone. My car looks brand new. Overall: You will not find a better repair, better person, or better cost elsewhere. For all you haters out there, stop being such high maintenance typical DC people. I'm from here originally so I claim the right to complain about you. I am 100% satisfied with the work done on my car. Yes, Mr. Yoon is a sole proprietorship. That means that he does everything himself. That means that he also cannot accept every single person that walks in the door on his or her schedule. If your time is flexible, i.e. you can still drive your car, and Yoon asks you to come back next week... Go back next week. I dropped by on Friday for an estimate. Yoon gave me one and asked me to drop off my car on Monday. I dropped off my car before work on Monday and picked it up Thursday. You can't even tell that my husband ran into a pole and messed up the entire driver's side mirror and door. I'm so happy that I'm taking my car back in the spring for some other minor damage that is purely cosmetic but driving me me crazy. Just for comparison, the dealership quoted me $2300+ to replace the door and repaint 3 panels so that the entire car "matched". Another body shop near my dealership quoted me $700 for repairing the door plus the cost to repaint it. Yoon quoted me $700 for repairs and paint job of the one door. You get what you pay for. If you are cost conscious, want some major dents and scratches fixed, and aren't too hung up on details, Mr. Yoon is your guy. My car had a couple large dents and major scratches. Mr. Yoon was able to take care of all the damages. The only flaw is the new coat of black paint has some bubble bumps and doesn't quite match the original's color. I won't lose sleep over that bit of detail. My wife messed up the back corner of our car by backing into a pile of construction material that was behind our parking spot. She brought our car to Murphy's Auto Body Shop first, and got an estimate of $801.84. She brought it to Dick's Auto Body Shop for a second estimate. Mr. Yoon said it would cost $300. Too good to be true? We dropped the car off yesterday, and picked it up this morning. The work Mr. Yoon did was beautiful, like an artist. No new parts needed; he just fixed up the old ones. The man who works in (or owns?) the shop next door was sweeping outside; he told me that Mr. Yoon takes great pride in his work, "rare these days." OMG! Dick's Auto is THE BEST!!!!! Dick's Auto is near the New Barnes & Nobles next to Catholic University. Located to the left of Lee's Auto.Yoon doesn't speak english so he can't up-sell you. I don't know shit about cars so - when I look back on it - we're even. The broken tail light and bumper (which was hanging on by a thread) was caused when my partner backed the rear of the car into a pillar in an underground parking lot. Damn you, Trader Joe's! My partner objected to getting the car repaired. He said the tail light is slotted into "brackets" which were out-of-whack. We need to go to a dealership. I told him ... hell no, I am not going to be ticketed and/or stopped by DC cops. He was mad. I went to the repair shop. Yoon and I could not have talked more than 10 minutes. I point to the damage and say how much? Yoon asked if I was fine with Chinese parts? Sure, what's the price? He said $160. Includes the bumper? He said he will fix it. And, he only takes personal checks (no credit card). I'm fine. He took the VIN, the make, model and year of the car. His office has the Korean version of the Sears Christmas Catalog. He ordered the part that day, I dropped the car off the next morning, and picked it up that evening. OMG! He repaired our ghetto cruiser back to a respectable car. The side that was repaired matches the undamaged side. The scratches where the paint peeled were gone. You can see the crack in the bumper if you really look close. But heck, it was $160. I saw there were high Yelp ratings and stopped by Dicks. It's a little hard to spot from the road. You have to actually drive into the parking lot of Lee's automotive repair then you will see Dicks to the left. Anyway, my car had been damaged the day before while it was parked so I wanted an estimate to get the bumper repainted. I was given a quote of $500 and was trying to schedule a time for repair however another customer came up and he rudely walked away to help them while saying to me that my repair was expensive. I found myself standing by my car wondering what the heck had just happened. I waited for a few minutes but he didnt come back. I am giving Dicks two stars because he wiped the bumper down so the damage was less noticeable but I go by first impressions. I was also sort of stressed because I needed my car in a couple days. There wasn't anything the guy could do, but he promised to do the best he could. Well the car was ready and finished 24 hours after I dropped it off! Somehow he managed to acquire the part very quickly! While I doubt that the kindly middle aged Japanese man who owns it is actually Dick (he probably bought it from the original Dick back in the day) there is no doubt that this is the fastest and FAIREST auto body shop I've used. Dick owns and runs the small two car garage shop in Brookland. (two blocks from the Red Line Brookland Metro station). He evaluates the damage, talks about your insurance options (mine is pathetic) and quotes you an extremely fair price. I'm used to haggling over car repairs under the assumption that everyone is trying to take your last two pennies....but here, I haven't had to haggle at all. I've been there twice and my husband once for some paint. The proprietor does all the body work himself. As an added bonus it is ready on the morning he tells you it will be ready. No calling several times as your car falls lower on the priority scale. The only thing he doesn't do are credit cards. You need to pay in check or cash. If you need some mechanic work done at the same time, Mr. Lee's Garage operates out of the same lot. Very convenient. And I think they do a lot of work together. You know those folks that do great work, charge less than the other guy, and leave you HAPPY after an auto repair? I can't say I did before, but I do now! Working with Yoon has been the single most positive experience I've had with an auto shop since arriving in DC four years ago. My wife and I recently purchased a Honda Fit with some damage to the driver's fender and bumper, and I had gone to Capitol Collision for a quote. The recommended work came to over $1400, and while I'm sure they do a good job, it was more than we wanted to pay for a purely cosmetic repair. After reading about Dick's on Yelp, I took the car over the same day. Yoon quoted me $600 for the job, and given the reviews we decided to go for it. I dropped the car off Monday, and he called me Wednesday at 8:00 AM to say the car was ready. Fast! I admit, I was apprehensive walking onto the lot--what would $800 less than the other shop look like?--but when I saw the work, I was truly impressed. Such a beautiful job. If you hadn't told me there had been a problem, I never would have known, and Yoon did all this without replacing the fender panel ($$) like the other place had proposed. My father always told me that a good auto body repair person was like a magician, and now I see why! Amazing. Yoon even cleaned up the rear bumper scars and corner scratches, something I hadn't mentioned, and when I expressed my surprise and thanks, he demurred: "Just touch up, touch up." What a guy. Wow. I came here last week because of the high yelp rating for some minor work on my buick enclave. Yoon spent time with me, gave me a quote, and told me to come back the following Tuesday. I was concerned he had written nothing down, had a disorganized (to put it mildly) dirty office and didnt have my number. He said "dont worry. i remember. Just call me now and ill have your number" Then gave me a dirty business card. I called. I said see you next tuesday. He confirmed.
