Wow... yummy, yummy, yummy! It's been a while since stopping here, and I could still remember how good these donuts were. The problem was I forgot it was cash only! I scrambled in my purse for enough change to pay the total amount, but I couldn't find enough (it was like 17 cents). I wanted to check my car, but the guy at the counter allowed me to just take the donuts. THANK YOU! My mom's apple fritter was the size of a dinner plate, and she said it was delicious, as she licked her fingers. My husband enjoyed his bacon-covered... And, I enjoyed a simple and tasty glazed donut. Yes; this is a must stop for anyone - locals and visitors alike! read more

Steph Donut Hole is a great place. Dana is here and she is wonderful. She warmed up our ham and cheese croissant sandwich. She came to our table and asked if everything's OK. She's very sweet. We got a six pack of donuts for our painters at home. We also got a Bavarian cream filled donut, which was perfectly fresh. We are giving Steph's Donut Hole at all five stars. Family owned. I take my granddaughter and her bestie before school on Fridays. It's become a tradition. My favorite is the apple strudel with a large coffee. Coffee is always hot and ready. The girls love the glazed donut holes ($3 dozen) or anything with sprinkles. There's indoor and outdoor seating. The wife is so friendly and nice to us. The whole family is great! They have a very large variety of delicious donuts. The ones that I have tried are so amazing that I can't pass them up to try the others. And the owner and his son are always so friendly. We came here in the middle of the day, so I didn't expect the donuts to be the freshest, but it's not that, it's that they seemed like a day old or something. Idk, not sure. Aside from that it was inconvenient that they only took cash, or at least that's what the lady said. If my memory serves me correctly, they did have an atm ? But still. Mexican dude at the front was super rude. I walked in and he looked at me and said "Yes??" without a greeting of any sort, it was very cold and impersonal. Another mexican guy walked in after me and he said "Hola! Como estas?!" enthusiastically. Need I spell out the disparity any further? Basic customer service etiquette should be equally applied across the board regardless of personal prejudices. read more

The hospitality. I was in there Tuesday the 24th at 4:50pm. This employee/owner was absolutely the rudest person I've met in a public serving establishment. Absolutely wrong way to treat someone in anyway shape or form. I will never set foot in this place again. I felt like I was disturbing him at his place of business. He came out hostile and a bit aggressive. Very uncomfortable feeling. read more

Their donuts are delicious! Hot, fresh, and ready everyday! They have so many different kinds of donuts. They also have coffee. The staff are nice and the donuts are affordable. They have tables out side and inside too. I recommend getting there early in the morning when the donuts are fresh. read more

I'm sorry. This is a review I should've posted ... 4 years ago. Honestly. November 2016 I found myself in Alpine, CA and at a suggestion, I found a giant donut in my hand. I don't know if they still sell these (the other photos don't seem to show one quite this size) but gosh darn it; this was a really scrumptious donut. Maybe after COVID I'll get a road trip going and have another one. read more

They have a nice selection of various treats to satisfy once cravings.... I order the ham, cheese and jalapeño croissant lightly toasted. It did not disappoint. The croissant was flaky on top but and soft on the inside. Tasty. The ham and jalapeños were just right. Next time when I'm in the area I'm try a donut. Overall the gentleman behind the counter was friendly. They have a ATM as cards are accepted so bring cash. There are seats inside but I had to grab and run so didn't stay. The atmosphere is so unwelcoming. I get zero greeting when walking in. Doesn't ask what I want. They aren't very friendly every time I've been in. They charged me 4.70 and I gave them $5 and gave me 10 cents back. I didn't want to deal with it and I know I should have but this will be the last time I come in here. Just wanted to enjoy donut holes with my daughter and a buttermilk bar. Very upsetting when it's a local business and truly no competition read more

Not a family friendly community based business. Cash only. No sign in the door stating this... 2 donuts in the bag, one for me one for my young daughter, a special treat she was excited for. All I had with me is a credit card and these people don't have the common courtesy to even offer her donut for free. I've been an SD business owner for 20 years. This is sh*t customer service. I've been coming to this donut shop for some time now and every single time I stop in, I make sure to pick up a dozen. All I gotta say is that there just isn't any donut shop quite like this near my home. Plus their dozen donuts is cheaper than most places. First off, I've never had any bad experiences with any of the workers here as a few of the reviewers have expressed. Secondly, I love how their donuts taste compared to others that I have tried that either leave a bad after taste in your mouth or are days old. Lastly, Steph's donuts are always fresh and if I'm in the area, I make it a goal to stop by. Some of my favorites here are their pumpkin, blueberry, crumb, cinnamon, jelly filled, apple fritter and twist donuts. However, these are typically my go-to whenever I visit this shop. Every visit, their jelly donuts are different from lemon, to blueberry, agave, etc. The last visit, the worker gave an extra donut after I purchased a dozen in addition to one of their larger cinnamon twist donuts. Whenever I bring Steph's donuts home to my family, they love it and no longer care for the other donuts they used to buy! Now they only care to get Steph's Donut Hole donuts! The drive may be a bit lengthy, but it sure is worth it! read more

My kind of hole in the wall. Good food. Good prices. Interesting owner. Ask him about the unique taste. He'll tell you about his higher quality, healthier ingredients.. Seriously. The East may run on Dunkin, but I'll take these first generation immigrant donut shops with their unique blend every time. He's also been in Alpine for more than 30 years and has been slowly collecting old pictures of the town. They line the wall. It's the best collection of old Alpine pictures outside of the historical society. Some are more than 150 years old. And some of the antiques in his shop are older than that. Again, interesting guy. Here is why: On our first visit, the prices for drinks were high to begin with, but when we asked for an iced latte upgraded to half and half (Breve), we were told it would be extra. Shame on us for not asking how much. A 24 ounce latte with regular milk was $6.95. The upgrade to Breve was an extra $4.00!!! For a grand total of $11.80 with a flavor shot!!! And the drink was of very average quality. More recently we got a scone that was EXTREMELY DRY. When it was brought back, the owner first said "You realize this is a scone, right? As a 30 year baker, that was insulting. Then she squeezed it and said she wanted us to try "the middle". Again, insulting. When I politely declined and said I'd like to get something else, she was very hesitant, and said she was afraid we would be unhappy with another selection, and preferred to give a refund. Insulting a third time. We think the owner might consider a more customer-centric approach, but that's just us.

The citrusy glaze was really tasty and the bit of vanilla drizzle was just enough to give it that creamy undertone to check the dreamsicle box. I don't know what we tasted but they tasted almost rotten, or like chemicals. My partner immediately threw up. Nothing is getting this nasty taste out of our mouths. I just hope we don't get MORE sick.

First off, the person running the counter was sitting in the Lobby on his telephone having a Facetime conversation. Understandable, if its slow why not? The problem lies with the fact that this man had the nerve to give my wife and myself dirty looks and completely ignore our greeting TWICE! Not only that but he waited for us to stand at the counter for a good minute before DRAGGING his feet all the way around the corner. Mind you he didnt even get off the phone call either. He kept his headphones in as he failed to take our order. It is NOT hard to take an order of 12 donuts but he absolutely made it look like rocket science. Not only did he get our order wrong but more then HALF of the donuts were hard/ stale. This is the first time I've seen this person working and it will definitely be the last because that person was the absolute WORST. The energy put off was just NASTY as if we were intruding on his business. If you want donuts, just go up the street to Albertsons or even the corner gas station because the packaged Hostes donuts are always fresh and don't cop an attitude when you want to enjoy them. read more

This shop had no public bathrooms and only accepted cash. Bavarian donut tasted old. Not much seating and tables were not clean.. A dozen donuts, six milks and a diet coke was almost thirty dollars. A bit overpriced for a light breakfast on the road. Alpine in general was a little back woods. Even Circle K didn't offer cash back. The little ATM business in this town must be making a killing. read more
