Dr. Schmones is wonderful! The lady who was complaining about being advised about a prenatal test for Down Syndrome is WAY out of line -- obviously she elected to go to a midwife! All OB/GYNs advise pregnant women about this test and other genetic screens -- it is normal and customary. He would in no way advise any patient to terminate a pregnancy -- that is the woman's choice. Dr. Schmones has been my doctor, and my daughters' doctor, for 10 years and we have very happy with our care. read more

I searched and searched for an obgyn. I saw 3 highly recommended ones in Valencia first and didn't care for any of them. All the while I was already pregnant. I was 20 weeks by the time I was recommended to Dr. Schmones by a few friends and fellow RN colleges. He is the most personable dr I have ever gone to! My visit started in his office where he asked me about my history instead of me filling out some stupid paper. I've been to many obgyns in my life between endometriosis, ovarian cysts, high risk first pregnancy and post partum complications, and this was the best first visit experience I've ever had. Not only is he amazing but his nurse was as well! She was so nice and friendly and actually talked to me on a professional level (I'm an ER RN) instead of like I don't know anything medical like previous experiences! Unfortunately I only got to have a few visits with dr schmones as my complications increased and was referred to a more specialized high risk dr. But I plan to return to dr. One of the best doctors I know--end of story. He's so caring, intelligent and thorough (on your behalf!) that I tell friends to move to Burbank if they are considering having children so he's more convenient. :) He delivered my first (and will deliver the rest) so I know him the best as an OB, but my first Pap smear after the birth was so easy! He was quick, painless and still stayed around to answer my questions. On top of that, he will call you about test results regardless of the outcome! It saves you from having to guess in your head if the doctor got the results and everything is fine because they aren't calling. Also, first-time expecting moms, he has email and will answer any question you email him within hours--even on weekends! It was such a relief to know I had him there to help me through everything. He impressed me from day 1 and continues to do so. Not to mention his staff! They are incredible women that I love talking to and they are so knowledgeable. They have supported me separately as well! My babies are 12 and 9 now...but I started with Dr. Schmones after having not a great experience at another obgyn before I was ever pregnant. Dr. Schmones was wonderful and when I tearfully told him my story he handed me a tissue and took the time to listen to me. I was hooked then and 13 years later am still with him. He seemed nice at first but now I think he's just odd. He seems competent but as a first time patient, I felt very rushed and he was cursing when discussing another doctor with a nurse during my exam. He took phone calls while doing my consultation and then he snapped at me when I asked him a question about hormone supplementation. Inappropriate, unprofessional behavior. I'm still stinging. I don't think I'll go back because I think he prefers maternity patients (more money). Plus, I called a month later to have my test results sent to me. They weren't sent, so I called the second time to request them. The "billing/staff" woman gave me attitude from the moment she picked up the phone. When I pointed that out, she cut me off and tried to hang up on me, but I didn't let her. This whole office is "snappy". read more

I love Dr. Schmones! Nicest Man ever!!! When I first moved here, I randomly found another OB/GYN via Yelp. It was a disaster. That woman ended up not even showing up for my appointment. Yes, she was a no show. Read my review on her. The office called to confirm my appointment the day before. I took vacation to go to my appointment (mind you I work in Downtown so had to travel to Burbank). Then I show up at the counter and they tell me she's not there and instead, a nurse practitioner would see me. Huh?! That would be my first appointment. Yup. In any event, given I already took off of work, I went through with it. had to get sent for a mammogram and everything. That nurse practitioner probably saved me. Had a biopsy and everything. Had it not been for that woman, who knows what would have happened. To this day, I never met her. Anyway, it was time for my next annual. exam. Needless to say, I had to find a new doctor and of course, I got a recommendation to see Dr. Schmones. Thank goodness! His office staff is nice, and he is so nice!!! So patient, took the time to talk to me, answered all of my questions. Followed up with me after I had some blood work done too. AWESOME!! Great doctor, and Great person!! read more

I was reminded yet again why I drive 45 minutes to go to the doctor. He was on time and while he is very efficient, I never feel rushed. I had my annual blood draw right in the office. He talks to you about any concerns when you are fully dressed so you are comfortable. I was done having babies when he took over the practice so I cannot comment on that side of the practice. Ladies, I cannot tell you how much I love Dr. Schmones and his entire staff. Where do I start? I could honestly write a novel. First of all, they are professionals. I've probably been to his office over 2 dozen times, and every single time without fail, they are on time for each appointment and incredibly welcoming. Christina, Dr. S's nurse, quickly became a friend and still is to this day. You can tell from the onset of pregnancy that they care deeply for every client. They are thorough and thoughtful. I ended up giving birth 4 weeks early; my water broke at midnight. I paged Dr. S right away, and he called me within 2 minutes - literally. With my husband being #1, Dr. S was my next biggest cheerleader throughout the delivery process. He was at my side consistently, telling me "I could do this" and "you're doing so well", and he made the entire experience as smooth as possible. Dr. Schmones and his team are the best out there. I've never had this great of an experience with a medical office. I literally looked forward to going there throughout my entire pregnancy. Dr. Schmones has so much experience and is literally always in a good mood! I appreciated that he always asked "What questions can I answer for you" instead of "do you have any questions" so I wouldn't feel bad for asking. I trusted him fully and when my baby was breech and a c-section was necessary - I wasn't even nervous because I knew he would take care of us. The operation went very well and my incision looks great. Another enormous bonus to having a great doctor is when his team is also fantastic. Cristina is the nurse there and was so incredibly helpful throughout the entire process. I would not recommend going to this Dr. if you value communication and Dr. who values all life. I found him through a referral when I found out I was pregnant with our first. I went in for my first exam to do all of the prenatal testing and consultation. In our initial consultation he discussed the testing they do for Down Syndrome - when I asked why I would want that done - he said because 'most people choose to terminate the pregnancy.' I was so thrown off by this response and then he continued with a story of a patient who chose to keep the baby even after the test came back positive and she now has a child with extreme special needs that he claimed - 'is really a lot to handle.' HUH?!! terminate the baby because they may have special needs and you are a licensed DR?! I was sooo disgusted. Then to top it all off - after I asked to not have the cystic fibrosis test done in my prenatal screening due to personal preference and cost - I found out later when my bill came that they in fact DID give me that test and now I am out of pocket over $500 because they did not do what I asked. And now they are claiming I never asked to not have it and they refuse to help reduce the absurd charges. Needlesstosay, after that initial appointment I never returned to this Dr and have since found an AMAZING midwife who has given me the upmost in care and I could not even imagine continuing my care with this DR or anyone else. My advice, no matter what your religious preferences are - any DR who encourages you to terminate a child because there may be a 'chance' a CHANCE that they may be born with special needs is just WRONG. Even if that is your decision it is YOUR DECISION and he should remain unbiased. Do not go to Dr. Schmones. read more

Dr. Schmones is fantastic. I love his staff and it has been the same staff a long time which I appreciate. I met Dr. Schmones after my first son's delivery and my delivering doctor wouldn't treat my PPD and it was bad!..I went in there so defensive and so upset and he put his arm around me and said "Don't cry, you've been through a hard time but its going to get better soon". I have loved him since that day and he delivered my second son. My second pregnancy was a little risky but he helped me go through it without panic. On a close to delivery visit they couldn't find a heat beat so they hooked me up to the big monitor and you could see he was concerned..He never left me alone and always had his nurse with me. He finally said "you are so calm" and I simply said "Of course I am, I can feel y son kicking me". I had a great delivery and the after care was excellent. Over the years I have gone in for all my well woman exams and he takes the time to consider my whole health with blood tests and always a general checkup and reprimand to get my mammograms! He is now guiding me through the trials of a hysterectomy and I feel good knowing he will be supporting me. Oh and a shout out to he ladies in the office."They are always there to field a question or calm a fear or to get Dr. Schmones if its a big deal. To me they are like visiting my friends and I'm so grateful to have them in my life and for my care. read more

Hands down the BEST doctor and doctors office staff that you could ask for. I'm currently 7 months pregnant seeing Dr. Schmones and have had a great experience from the very beginning. Before coming to Dr. Schmones I've had a rough history with miscarriages and ivf so it's safe to say I'm a patient that has a lot of questions and concerns. He has been extremely attentive, gentle and kind. He takes his time with me at every single appointment, answers all of my questions and genuinely cares about my well being. He is by far one of the nicest doctors I have met. He's also been doing this for some time so he knows what he's doing and I trust him with everything. The girls in the office are also amazing - Michelle, Cristina and Nancy always have smiles on their faces and get me in whenever I need to be seen. They are super compassionate and personable which makes you feel really welcomed. Billing has also been a breeze and I have never waited longer than 10 minutes to be seen. So I signed up to YELP just to give Schmones TEN stars. Oh wait you can only go up to five? Alright then. I had gotten pregnant Oct. of 2012 and originally wanted this other gyno. But the dude told me he retired from Obgyn and only did paps. He told me he wasn't supposed to do this because it's against contract but he HAD to refer me to Schmones because he was so good! Woooo was he right!!!! As most of you know who has been to him, it's not really schmones who is awesome it's the whole team. Three women who are awesome work there along side him and each one takes the time to answer every question you have! I probably called too much during my pregnancy with any little ache and pain I may have had and they were so chill about it! Schmones even gave me his personal cell in case I went into labor early. Although I decided on a c section I actually schedule my c section around him just so that HE could deliver her! :) and to top it all off I met a girl in the waiting room when I was six months pregnant and we had our babies via csection a day of eachother! Her baby girl July 9, and my baby girl July 10! We are now really good friends and our babies are too! And to even top it off with a cherry on top, the hospital across the street you deliver in was built by Walt Disney after he had surgery there years ago. So you get a free onesie by Disneyland when you deliver your baby there. To end my love for these people I actually tried to go to an Obgyn closer to home from me, but it was not the same! I will drive 40 mins to see them! They also dealt with my husband as well and that's saying a lot! Ahaha! read more

Best GYN hands down. I saw him years ago but switched to a different doctor when I was living on the west side. Came back to Dr. Schmones since I bought a house in Burbank. He cares about your well being and never rushes the conversation. He listens and always prescribes the best course of action. I have been a patient of Dr. Schmones since 2009 when I was pregnant with my first child. I could not have asked for a better doctor to go through all my pregnancies and deliveries with! I just had my 3rd C-section 10/1/13, which we plan to be our last. And it truly makes me sad knowing I will only be seeing him once a year for my yearly well check visit. I had some complications with my first delivery and he was right there with me through all the craziness offering me support and making me feel comfortable and took away all my nerves and ultimately got me better and home with my baby ASAP! For my second pregnancy luckily he always requests a final ultrasound to check the babies weight and make sure everything is on track. When we did the anatomy check at 20 weeks everything looked fine with my baby's kidneys however at 33 weeks when I went for my final one at his request, they found that he had bilateral hyrdonephrosis - basically both kidneys were dilated. I needed to have my amniotic fluid checked weekly until I delivered however when I delivered at 39 weeks, based of the diagnosis in utero, my son had surgery at Children's Hospital at 7 days old to have 2 posterior urethral valves removed and now is a very happy, healthy and HUGE 20 month old. Had it not been for Dr. Schmones's surveillance and monitoring this condition would have gone untreated which ultimately could have lead to kidney failure. My last pregnancy I had some bleeding and contractions starting at 32 weeks and he answered every call, whatever hour of the day or night and kept my baby in until she was delivered at 38 weeks. If I ever felt "funny" or "nervous" they would take the time to exam me to make sure everything was ok. I was literally in the office once or twice a week for the last 2 months as they took all of my concerns seriously. He has a huge heart and love for all his patients and makes you feel as if you are his only priority. Truly the best!!!! read more

This is one that I would like to give 0 stars. Check out the reviews on RateMDs.com. I wish I had. As a new patient, just wanting a well-woman check-up, I waited over two weeks for an appointment. Arrived early because I knew there would be paperwork. I was obviously invisible as the two (2) front office girls didn't acknowledge me as I signed in (they were busy on a computer issue, less than three feet away from my face). After waiting ten minutes, one finally deigned to give me the paperwork to fill out. Did I mention I was the ONLY ONE IN THE WAITING ROOM? One other woman did come in about ten minutes after I arrived and was ushered in the back shortly--she had a gift basket (for the staff?). After waiting 30 minutes past my appointment time, I retrieved my paperwork and left the office. I did get a "sorry, there's been emergencies this morning". Would have been nice to know that and have had an option to reschedule or at least try to move my following appointment. "Did I want to reschedule?" Sure! I really appreciate poorly trained staff and a waste of a total of an hour and a half, gas and parking $. Too bad, from the reviews the doctor sounds like a peach! read more

5 STARS!!! You can't get any better than Dr. Schmones and his staff. I used to see another OBGYN in Burbank who delivered my child however once i became pregnant with my son her practice went down hill quick and I needed someone else that could be dependable...and then....came Dr. Schmones. I have never felt the care of a Dr. and i mean really felt that they cared about me or my family until going to this office. When I see Dr. Schmones I never feel rushed.I feel that the time he dedicates to his patients is unlike any Dr. I've seen. Dr. Schmones is open to any questions my husband and I have, no matter how silly they may be and he always gives an answer. When it came to deliver our son he was out of town...isn't this always how it goes ladies?? I ended up with an on call doctor who was also very good but when my son's heartbeat was lost for almost 3 minutes during labor my husband and I panicked. We were assured by the on call doctor that everything was fine however when Dr. Schmones heard about this while checking in witht the hospital, he had just gotten back in to town and drove directly from the airport to deliver me via c-section that night. He assured me when he got there that everything would be fine. It sure was with Dr. Schmones back in town! Everyday after my surgery Dr. Schmones visited me and always asked what he could do or if I needed anything, some of his staff visited as well. My son was born 2 years ago this May and I feel that if Dr. Schsmones wan't my doctor at the time that things may not have gone as well as they did. I would not trade him for any other doctor. he has been very easy to get appointments with and he also meets with patients after their exams in his office once they are dressed so they are more comfortable. As far as the other patient's comment regarding visits every 6 months, this is his office policy. If you're on BC with him he needs to see you every 6 months. I feel this is more watchful considering anyone on BC is more likely to have serious problems, such as blood clots etc so going more often does not bother me any. read more

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE!! I've been a patient of Dr. Schmones for over 15 years. He is simply THE BEST! If you have a question, you can email him and he will get right back to you, or call the office and they will put you on hold and he will answer your call between patients. He isn't in a group, so you don't get shuffled around, he is your doctor and pays 110% to you as a patient. If something is wrong, he will send you to a specialist and not try to figure it out on his own. The office staff couldn't be any nicer; the girls at the front desk, his nurse and even the girl in accounting, everyone is exceptionally genuinely friendly. I have not one bad thing to say about him, actually I'm kind of obsessed with him!!! My birth experience didn't go the way I had planned, but he made the entire process a breeze! He even text me in the days after to check up on me to see how I was doing, even though he saw me in the hospital. He is a man that LOVES what he does, which makes the whole experience that much more enjoyable. I have referred several friends who all equally love him. read more
