She always gives me a great cut (no easy feat, because I have really, really thick hair with a sort of messy, kinky wave in spots). She's also great at color -- awhile ago, I decided I wanted to go from red back to my natural blonde, and she was awesome at gradually transitioning my hair from one color to the other. (I didn't want to completely strip my hair all at once, and I didn't want to just grow out the red.) The salon is nice -- it's largeish and has a good selection of products. The atmosphere isn't particularly unique or anything, however.

That seemed reasonable assuming they had talented and capable stylists. In fact, Grand River Barber Co, a local competitor, has several incredibly talented barbers that charge $28 because of demand. I got a basic men's cut, expecting to be charged $28, and they charged me $49. That's a 75% increase! After getting taken advantage of, I emailed the owner, only to be insulted and told I should have expected to pay that much. This place takes advantage of their customers.

Heat Salon is convenient for members at The M.A.C., not up-to-date on its website and pretty good. I am new to the…read morearea and looked at review sites and decided to try this salon, hoping I wouldn't need to try any others. Let's say I walked in today and HAD to try a different place because they didn't have my reservation and didn't even seem concerned. They acknowledged they made the reservation, but since they were busy they couldn't do it. They said I they had openings later this week. I left work early to get there and just getting the appointment took days and was more work than I generally want to do for a service. So, when they didn't apologize and couldn't honor their agreement, I left. (I was not rude prior to leaving, even then I just said it was too much work and I had left work early, so no I didn't want more of their 'service'.) Went less than a mile down the street to a much more upscale salon and was able to get my hair cut right away for a very reasonable price. Unless you need to be patriotic (there's a big flag behind the empty reception area) while getting your hair cut, or have time to be jerked around, go somewhere else!
