I recently moved to the area from NYC and was looking for a new salon and a blond specialist. I searched on Instagram and saw that Rachel had many great photos of a range of blondes and styles, so I made an appointment for a free consultation. From our immediate interaction, Rachel was so friendly and warm. We talked about what I was hoping for, and she suggested adding lowlights (which I've never had before!) with highlights. Loved this place! I was from out of town and pressed for time but they happily fit me in. Then I got even more pressed for time as I had to backtrack to Starbucks and retrieve my briefcase, and they STILL fit me in. Now, let me make it clear, when I arrived, there were six other patrons so this place wasn't dying for my business - they wanted it. My stylist was so great! Again, not from the area, but she took the time to understand what I wanted and was even able to suggest a variation to my style that I really like. What a professional! I was served a nice cup of coffee, got a bit of a scalp massage, shampoo,great cut, and was on my way in about 45 minutes WITH a few suggestions of places to eat while in Lansing. He is so patient and does such a beautiful job on my cut and color. He is never in a rush and always such a pleasure to talk to. Adam is a great stylist and is very pleasant. My highlights turn out great every time. He is a perfectionist, which I really appreciate. Don't let the outside fool you, it is beautiful inside! It is very clean and well kept. Someone is constantly sweeping up the hair clippings around every chair, etc. Everyone pitches in if they see something needs to be done. I have to say that coming here from Florida, several months ago, I was surprised at the cost of wash, highlights and cut. I got the same thing for half the price I paid in Florida, but it's less expensive living there. I've found that a lot of things in Michigan are more expensive than Florida. So, I guess it's what I should expect. I'm on a fixed income so I have to be smart about $$. I feel bad that I haven't been able to tip Adam as much as I should. I had an amazing experience at this salon today and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone! Theresa did my hair and it turned out absolutely gorgeous. Before I had my hair done I had found pictures online of the type of cut and color I wanted and went in for a 15 minute consultation to go over what exactly I wanted. She was able to get me in literally the next day! When I came in to get my hair done there was such a great atmosphere in the salon- music was great and everyone was so friendly! I was checked in with several times in order to get me a beverage and see if I needed anything while my hair was being done. Because I am a natural red head of course I was SUPER nervous to get my hair dyed blonde but it turned out BEAUTIFUL! Theresa was able to give me the exact cut and color I wanted and all my family and friends are obsessed. I definitely will be coming here on a regular basis now and plan on trying out their facials next. If you are thinking about doing something different to your hair don't be afraid to take your ideas to this salon and make your dreams a reality! This salon is fabulous! It is a bit difficult to find on your first visit as it is tucked back from the road a bit - but once you get there everything is lovely! The front desk staff is friendly and helpful. They offer Aveda tea, coffee or water. They take your coat and have you put on a black robe. While you wait in the lobby there is plenty to explore, Aveda products, magazines, etc. Those options are all great, but I never seem to have to wait long enough to really enjoy them! The stylists are always very prompt! Gina was my original hair stylist, she is simply wonderful and has given me some of the best haircuts of my life! (I am still so bummed she is gone!!) While in her care I was given a coupon for a massage by Kameron. Kameron is one of the best massage therapists I have ever encountered! She goes above and beyond to try to make your time with her relaxing and beneficial to your particular regions of discomfort/concern. Not only is she a stellar massage therapist she is also a lovely person! If you haven't tried her services you most certainly should! Carrie is my new hair stylist and I absolutely love her! She has a great personality and keeps very interesting conversation flowing during your appointment. She also gives one hell of a haircut! I have been a customer of Lockworx since about 2008 when I lived in Lansing and continue to go there despite having moved south of Flint. It's completely worth the drive. I wouldn't go anywhere else! I freaking love this place!! Everyone is kind, courteous and knowledgeable in addition to being fun to be around. Super good vibes here. Plus they are very accommodating in offering extras you don't see everywhere like hot beverages and water, complimentary hand massages with your color service and if you're lucky and Kameron isn't busy you may get a complimentary shoulder massage while your color is processing. I got a men's cut with Adam and it was the best cut I've ever had. He was quick but EXTREMELY thorough making sure not to miss anything and getting my feedback along the way. A cut includes a scalp massage, shoulder massage, shampoo, condition, cut, and style. He also took time to make sure we were on the and page with what I wanted done, even pulling up pictures on an iPad to find ideas. (We agreed that if I left looking like Justin Timberlake in the shot we both liked it would be a success). Altogether it took about 45 mins which is more than reasonable for the quality. I've gotten cuts from lots of different places anywhere from other Aveda salons to MasterCuts next to the food court in your typical mall. This was the most expensive cut I've ever had at $37 but I can say with confidence that it is well worth it. read more

I went here for a trim and CJ did a very good job. A lot of times when you ask for a trim, hair dressers will trim more than you anticipate but CJ really understood that I didn't want too much off and did a good job only trimming the amount I wanted off. I was impressed by the customer service here. I was offered a drink and they were easy to schedule with. Overall, I recommend, the trim cost $35 but I think other hairdressers there have different rates. read more
