I scheduled an appointment with April due to Bliss Salon's website saying she's a "curl specialist". I have thick multicultural curls (a mix of 3b - 4a) and tried to make sure someone with experience handled my hair. At the beginning of my appointment, I told April I wanted a trim, to not shape the previous layers to continue growing my hair out, and to define the couple of face framing strands. She told me to accomplish all of that she would need to take off 1" to 1.5" at most, and I told her I was okay with that. April started off by dry brushing my curls. I should've gotten up and ran right then and there, but hindsight is 20/20. About 5 to 10 minutes in, she made her way around to the side/front of my hair. I was finally able to see how much she had cut off. The 1" to 1.5" was more like 3.5" to 4" of curls, so it was likely even more than that. I told her the amount she had cut made me nervous. She responded, "I've only taken off 1" to 1.5" to touch up the layers. But thanks for letting me know", and continued chopping away. This was minutes after we had discussed that I wanted to grow the layers out so my hair could grow out. We were at the point of no return, so I just tried to trust the process. After the cut, April applied the detox and shine treatment to my hair with gloves on. She reminded me to put my hands under the cape to prevent skin exposure to the chemicals. After applying the shine treatment to a strand of hair, April dropped the strand down and it made contact with my open eye, which instantly burned and watered. She handed me a paper towel (without removing her gloves that were covered in the shine treatment) so I could dab my eye. Thankfully, that helped and we were able to continue. Fast forward to the styling process post shampooing and conditioning. April asked me if I usually add volume to my hair. I told her I purposely don't style my hair to be voluminous because the feeling of it being in my face causes a bit of a sensory issue. So, April did the opposite of what I asked for. She proceeded to brush my hair in a way that created volume at the roots and diffused it make it even bigger. At the end of my appointment, my hair was layered and up to my shoulders. It reached the center of my back when I first arrived. Despite this, April truly did do a good job. The way she cut and styled my hair would've been perfect for someone who wants their hair to look like my end result. However, April will never touch my hair again. I should've just sucked it up and made the longer drive to see Ashley. If you have long multicultural curls and want to keep them that way, GO TO ASHLEY IN EL. I was in Lockworx Salon yesterday and I had a wonderful experience. I had a 90 minute massage which was very relaxing. I was pleased with the experience of the massage therapist. I have had many massages in the past and Kameron asked me what pressure she wanted me to have her use for my massage. She did not talk while giving me my massage which definitely is a plus. I have had Candace and Carrie do my color and I am very pleased with both stylists. They listen to you and give you the results you expect from professionals. I certainly recommend Lockworx Salon to all of my friends. Everyone is very friendly at Lockworx from the moment you walk in the door. I needed to find a new salon and stylist so reached out to trusted colleagues for recommendations. Lockworx was suggested and I gave it a try. Their website is amazingly complete in describing their mission, passion for their profession, COVID appropriate precautions, and the salon in general. Amazing customer service and reminder emails for my appointment, I took pictures of haircuts I had had in the past and a few from magazines. Brie cut my hair and it is just what I wanted! I love this salon! The customer service is wonderful, providing coffee or tea to make you comfortable and relax to start with. The stylist worked with me on the cut I wanted - ensuring it would work for my face frame. I have tried for months to get a layered cut that will work for me without much success. I finally have it after my visit on Friday. The scalp massage was amazing. I also appreciated walking me through what she was doing and what products she was using and why. Theresa HOOKED ME UP! I have weird hair, it's thick and thin, curly and straight, and I've been looking for a stylist that can give my hair the attention it needs. I've bounced around like 4 other salons. All were too expensive and didn't really take good care of my hair. Theresa at Lockworks took the time to look at the curl pattern of ever piece of hair she cut. The result is the best haircut I've received in years. I have been seeing Frank (the owner) for over 20 years. I would not trust my hair with anyone else. The whole experience is more than just a cut and color. They are always very attentive to their guests needs and my favorite part about the experience is getting a hand treatment while I wait for my color to set. It went from curly below my shoulders to so short I can't even put a ponytail in. I did email the owner and sent before and after pictures. She refunded my money and offered to personally cut my hair next time I needed a cut. She was the only positive in an extremely upsetting situation.

I've also brought my young daughter to The Head Room for haircuts with Jamie and Andrea. They both did fantastic work and were very sweet and patient--I imagine preschoolers are typically not stylists' favorite clients, but you wouldn't know it based on our appointments. I feel pricing at the salon is reasonable, on par with what you'll be charged at other similar salons in the area. The only issues I've ever had at the salon, as other reviewers have mentioned, are with booking appointments. It can very challenging to get an appointment for color within a few weeks of calling, so it's necessary to plan ahead quite a bit (not my strong suit). I had one incident where I actually remembered to book my next color and cut at the front desk immediately following an appointment. When I showed up for the next appointment a couple months later, the salon had no record of it. I had the appointment card from the front desk and everything, but there was really nothing that could be done at the time so it was a wasted trip. They were very apologetic and helpful about making a time to squeeze me in the next week, but it was a frustrating experience. Not enough to keep me away but worth mentioning. Overall, a great salon that I highly recommend. Just keep in mind that appointments (especially for color) may need to be booked out a few weeks in advance and if you don't receive a reminder call for your upcoming appointment, it'd be good to contact the salon and confirm your booking before making the trip over.
