Friendly, fast staff. Knowledgeable and genuinely nice. Espresso is perfect. It isn't as bitter as the bucks and their machine pours with the perfect crema on the top. The whole place has a modern vibe to it with plenty of space to sit and study, chat with friends, or, like me, grade the torrent of English papers that have suddenly descended upon me. They have lots of options for the coffee fanatic including the trusty French Press or the new, jazzy versions like V60, Siphon, and Chemex. The thing that impressed me the most was their hot water boiler that has constant water at the perfect temperature for pour overs and such. They did look at me weird when I said I love my aero press. Oh well. Ha.

    V60 -- Ecuadorian single origin

I stopped by here this past Sunday with my father for my morning coffee. Steamdot Coffee Roasters is located in a strip mall right off of the old Seward Highway. Whenever we first walked into the place you could really smell their sausage and boy did it smell good! The inside of this place is fairly open with a counter to order your drinks and tons of other seating. Since Steamdot had the words "coffee lab" on its sign, it wasn't a surprise to me that you could order single origin coffees in a variety of ways including v60 or chemex. After looking over their four choices of coffee, I decided to go with a v60 of the coffee from Ecuador due to its description of citrus notes. I then watched the barista wet the filter, measure out the correct amount of coffee and make it. All told it was maybe 5 minutes from ordering until I had my coffee and was out the door. As for the coffee itself, I liked it. It was strong and smooth and yet had those citrusy notes which were described. You could also tell that it had been recently roasted by the taste which was nice. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I enjoyed my coffee and loved all the different single origin and brewing options.

I come to Anchorage from Fairbanks from time to time and I continue to be in awe of the high quality of the coffee served, the friendly (and child/family friendly) atmosphere, but mostly the outstanding and consistently masterful coffee drinks. I recently re-visited SteamDot with my grand daughters (I always bring them here for Hot Chocolate and whipped cream with sprinkles - their favorite!) My coffee drink of choice has always been the Cappuccino which, owing to the expert work of Caleb, the outstanding barista, remains one of the finest examples of this benchmark coffee drink in the world! An enhancement to the taste and mouthfeel of the Cappuccino is the expertly executed latte art performed by Caleb - a treat for the eyes and the palate! Several photos are attached to this review. I also wish to re-state that last year Steamdot Coffee won Food and Wine Magazine's coveted "Best Coffee in Alaska" award. This is a great honor and this recognition is truly deserved. In sum, as always, an exceptional environment; a committed staff, offering the finest coffee drinks available in Alaska.

Great coffee, good breakfast choices, good seating, good wifi, friendly service. They have breakfast burritos and sandwiches chilled that they will heat in the oven, or you can use the microwave accessible to anyone.

Steam Dot is so hit and miss. This store is more miss than hit. The downtown local is awesome. I think it just depends on the barista. The pastries was refrigerated and served cold. Asked for my coffee in a ceramic cup. They "forgot" even though I was the ONLY customer at the time. I was told we are closing early because there is not enough customers. But I drove across town and they advertise open until 7.

Spacious. Good price. Love the location. Not enough parking at times, but lots of good fellowship or relaxing times.

We ordered several meals between 2 adults and 3 kids in addition to an appetizer and drink. They're are listed in order of favorite to least favorite: Calamari Seafood pasta Fish and chips Kids fried chicken and rice Scallop Risotto House margarita Kids dessert (house made sorbet) The server asked what soup or salad we would like within the meal, and little did we know, it would be an additional $7 up charge for each. In addition, the margarita was all ice, and tasted like your typical Jose Cuervo margarita. The calamari was good and fairly thick, enjoyed by everyone. The seafood pasta had a good flavor and loaded with seafood, truly the one meal I enjoyed. The fish and chips had 3 large portions of halibut, with a heavy fried batter, and average fries. It didn't taste better than your average fish and chips, and I'm glad I didn't personally order this dish. The kids chicken and rice had a surprisingly large amount of chicken with bland rice. The scallop risotto, just simply wasn't very good, it wasn't bland, but the flavor was lacking, and of the 3 that tried it, no one ate much. The kids dessert was called house made sorbet, and my kiddos were so excited to eat it. They tried one bite and almost cried, he said it tasted like broccoli, and I laughed and tried it myself...no kidding, this tasted like broccoli!! It was absolutely awful, like one of those gag jelly beans. I was expecting a high bill, but the hidden charges at the end really added to our disappointment. I regret coming here

I was right, as I walked in they sold the very last thing of what I wanted. But gosh am I glad- it forced me to try something new. I didnt take a picture because it was so cold out and my hands were frozen, but it was a beautiful, elongated bakery treat. It had lovely purple Ube cream and touch of oreo crumbs on top, the base was essential much like a flat cruller, but if higher quality. It was sensational! I bought my husband something that looked lower carb that had coffee cream that also enjoyed. I got my husband custom cold jasmine sugar free tea, and I got a frosty honeydew melon drink. It was a little spendy, but its nice to have a treat one on a while.

It's like a croissant baked in a waffle form, but a bit denser than a regular croissant. What really made it special was the Ube cream -- a light, buttery frosting that wasn't too sweet. Easily a 10/10 for me. I also ordered the Ube Cruffin, which had that same croissant-like texture in a muffin shape. The inside had a light cream filling, and the top was covered with the same Ube cream. It was good, but not quite as amazing as the Croffle -- 7/10. The Ham Banh Mi was tasty and filling (6/10), and the Boba Milk Tea was decent too (6/10). Oh and I got to taste their smoked salmon chowder that my friend ordered. Very good flavor, body, and richness (8/10). Everything I had was good but nothing that was as memorable as the Ube Croffle, but it wasn't cheap -- I spent a total $32 for a sandwich, drink and 2 pastries. Then again, prices in Alaska tend to be higher in general. Overall, even though I've only been once, I'd definitely come back for that Ube Croffle -- it was the real highlight!
