a cup of coffee and a bag of coffee

Kaladi brothers has several sit down locations, and one coffee hut. This one in particular is their average layout I think, not as big as the ones on Tudor and jewel lake, more similar then their Brayton one. January first is always their day of giving, they give 100% of their drink proceeds to a nonprofit in town. This year they are doing Covenant house, and they are going to keep them as the beneficiary every year on this day now. 50% of coffee bean sales goes to them as well. Overall i like to go to coffee huts that serve their coffee, because they are usually cheaper. The prices here are more cafe prices. Also their coffee hut on old Seward or any of their cafe dont do a rewards system like every other coffee place in town. They do have cold brew year round in the cafes if you like that.

One of the best mochas I've had...and one of the worst breakfast burritos. First, it's NOT a burrito. More like a panini wrap--and a tasteless one at that. Except for the sausage, the ingredients are all indistinguishable by taste, which is saying something when you have black beans and scrambled eggs. Plus, there's a certain pastiness to it all, no doubt from marinating in the refrigerator case for who knows how long. Avoid this thing at all costs, especially if you're from SoCal. Cookies are overly sweet, which makes it hard to tell one cookie from another. I bought some beans, so we'll see how it goes, but the food I had was god-awful and best avoided. (I went back for another mocha this morning and will stop by for a cortado later on the way to Palmer. Stay tuned!)

Besides the kind cashier and great customer service from her, Kaladi Brothers continues to disappoint. I used to enjoy coming to Kaladi Brothers, but in the last year (maybe because it's 2020 ) it seems like the baristas are getting lazy. I usually order an iced white chocolate mocha, and they used to be great but the baristas have stopped stirring the white chocolate powder or at least stopped ensuring that all of the white chocolate powder is dissolved before serving it to patrons (something all baristas know they're supposed to/should do) so when the drink gets 'iced' it forms clusters at the bottom. I don't check because I just assume that all baristas know to do it, but when going to take a sip with a straw you get grainy powder chunks in your mouth. I hate asking for remakes because when I do, the baristas are appalled or confused that I want my white chocolate powder mixed/dissolved?? I keep trying to give them another chance because I enjoy supporting Alaska's local roasters, but after the same experience from multiple locations they continue to validate why I should spend my money elsewhere. Pictured is my iced white chocolate mocha before and after attempting to stir it myself. The chunks crystallize and don't dissolve anymore unless I let it sit for awhile. It would be great if they could acknowledge their lack of work in making a simple drink and lose the attitude when asked to remake a drink, but I guess they don't make mistakes here.

We ordered several meals between 2 adults and 3 kids in addition to an appetizer and drink. They're are listed in order of favorite to least favorite: Calamari Seafood pasta Fish and chips Kids fried chicken and rice Scallop Risotto House margarita Kids dessert (house made sorbet) The server asked what soup or salad we would like within the meal, and little did we know, it would be an additional $7 up charge for each. In addition, the margarita was all ice, and tasted like your typical Jose Cuervo margarita. The calamari was good and fairly thick, enjoyed by everyone. The seafood pasta had a good flavor and loaded with seafood, truly the one meal I enjoyed. The fish and chips had 3 large portions of halibut, with a heavy fried batter, and average fries. It didn't taste better than your average fish and chips, and I'm glad I didn't personally order this dish. The kids chicken and rice had a surprisingly large amount of chicken with bland rice. The scallop risotto, just simply wasn't very good, it wasn't bland, but the flavor was lacking, and of the 3 that tried it, no one ate much. The kids dessert was called house made sorbet, and my kiddos were so excited to eat it. They tried one bite and almost cried, he said it tasted like broccoli, and I laughed and tried it myself...no kidding, this tasted like broccoli!! It was absolutely awful, like one of those gag jelly beans. I was expecting a high bill, but the hidden charges at the end really added to our disappointment. I regret coming here

I was right, as I walked in they sold the very last thing of what I wanted. But gosh am I glad- it forced me to try something new. I didnt take a picture because it was so cold out and my hands were frozen, but it was a beautiful, elongated bakery treat. It had lovely purple Ube cream and touch of oreo crumbs on top, the base was essential much like a flat cruller, but if higher quality. It was sensational! I bought my husband something that looked lower carb that had coffee cream that also enjoyed. I got my husband custom cold jasmine sugar free tea, and I got a frosty honeydew melon drink. It was a little spendy, but its nice to have a treat one on a while.

It's like a croissant baked in a waffle form, but a bit denser than a regular croissant. What really made it special was the Ube cream -- a light, buttery frosting that wasn't too sweet. Easily a 10/10 for me. I also ordered the Ube Cruffin, which had that same croissant-like texture in a muffin shape. The inside had a light cream filling, and the top was covered with the same Ube cream. It was good, but not quite as amazing as the Croffle -- 7/10. The Ham Banh Mi was tasty and filling (6/10), and the Boba Milk Tea was decent too (6/10). Oh and I got to taste their smoked salmon chowder that my friend ordered. Very good flavor, body, and richness (8/10). Everything I had was good but nothing that was as memorable as the Ube Croffle, but it wasn't cheap -- I spent a total $32 for a sandwich, drink and 2 pastries. Then again, prices in Alaska tend to be higher in general. Overall, even though I've only been once, I'd definitely come back for that Ube Croffle -- it was the real highlight!
