Terrain Café is one of those places where the atmosphere is just as much a part of the experience…read moreas the food. It is located right next to their beautiful nursery and plant shop, and it's a really nice spot to grab lunch and then browse around for plants before or after. I ordered their crab flatbread, and the first thing that surprised me was how generous they were with the crab meat, mixed in with cabbage and charred asparagus. The asparagus had a nice char and flat and the cabbage added a nice crunch and texture. The flat bread itself was a little crunch which was interesting and I love how it wasn't overly heavy or rich. The flat bread came with a side salad with really fresh greens. It was so fresh and crunchy that my 9 year old son stole it from me and proceeded to devour the entire salad himself. Also, the setting is what really makes Terrain special. Being surrounded by plants and greenery, with the nursery and shop right next door, gives the whole experience a very relaxed and inviting feel. It's the kind of place where you can easily spend a little extra time after lunch wandering around and looking at all the plants and other items they have to offer. Our server was friendly although it was slow at times but we figured out it was the coffee bar that was slow. Overall, we really enjoyed our lunch there and would be happy to return again when we are in the area.

The menu is pretty stale, and they were out of 3 of the entrees. The food was ok. We got the hummus - it tasted fine, not much better than store bought, and the pita or whatever it was was burnt. The grain bowl was also just ok - the chicken has a hospital or airplane quality to it. And I guess this is more of a reflection of the kind of restaurant Terrain has become, but it felt like a daycare. Kids everywhere screaming. Parents not doing much to stop it. I get it, kids can be hard. But nobody cares anymore. Food all over the floor, shrieks echoing in the small dining room. Oof, it was just not a great time.

A Place That Feels Like Home…read more The Spotted Horse Tavern was a fantastic find. My brother, who lives locally, recommended it, and I'm so glad he did. I've been there twice now, and both visits were memorable for all the right reasons. The lobster rolls were excellent, the craft beer selection on tap was outstanding, and everything was served with a smile. One of the things I love most about the place is the atmosphere. It's a charming old home that has been beautifully transformed into a restaurant, with plenty of character and a warm, rustic feel. The moment you walk in, it feels comfortable and welcoming. The service was exceptional both times I visited. In fact, a few months ago I tried to stop by again, but the road was closed for pedestrian traffic only and parking was impossible to find. We ended up going to Little Barn up the road instead, which was also a great experience. Later, I discovered that both Little Barn and Spotted Horse were created by my high school classmate, Kevin M. What a small world! Nice job, Kevin. I had no idea you were in the restaurant business, but you've clearly built something special. Regardless of that connection, Spotted Horse stands on its own as a wonderful place to enjoy a meal. Great food, excellent drinks, friendly service, and genuine hometown hospitality. If you're in Westport, treat yourself and stop by. Chances are you'll leave already looking forward to your next visit. Cheers!

I would not recommend eating the raw fish items on the menu. The service is workmanlike. Just ok. I also saw staff drinking alcohol while on duty here one evening, which was a bit off putting. I know this happens in the hospitality business, but at least be subtle about it. They were not.

I tried the tortilla española with sun dried tomato dressing and it was delicious (too hungry to snap photos) haha! The americano was smooth and strong. Unfortunately, today's visit was the final straw, and we've decided we won't be coming back. Since changing the name from Studio Cafe to Tailored Home Cafe (located inside the interior design shop), something seems to have changed--perhaps new ownership or management. The portions are noticeably smaller, the food quality isn't what it used to be, and it's hard to justify paying Westport prices for an experience that no longer matches the cost. It's disappointing because this used to be one of our favorite spots, and we've visited well over 20 times over the years. I genuinely hope they can get back to what made them so successful in the first place, because we'd love to see them return to the quality that kept us coming back for so long.

I don't know if I can make a better endorsement for a restaurant than saying I made a significant move to be close to it. If I had a third thumb, it would also be up.

So I've actually debated whether or not to include this UberEats delivery review. The first time I…read moretried to go through with it, I just couldn't really figure out what to write. I only ordered it on UberEats this past Friday night, so it's not like I actually went there. However, the more I ate and thought about it, the more I realized something. This is the 4th year in 6 I've done a pre-birthday send-off UberEats order, and this is my 3rd year in a row doing so. In 2021, I had Edo on the last week before I turned 30. 2024, it was Boatyard at Smokey Joe's in Stamford, ordered on April 18. Last year, I did the Norwalk location of Elm Street Diner on April 24. If we want to take that into consideration, then that would be reason enough to sum my thoughts up together and get something down. So to send off age 34, say hello to Walrus Alley! If I'm being honest, I always wanted to have a barbecue right before my birthday of this year of all years. It only felt appropriate for 2026. Originally, I was going to have Wire Mill Saloon from Redding delivered using Yelp, but one of the items I'd ordered was out of stock, so that got canceled and I turned my sights here and ordered what I would have gotten from Redding. This was a half-rack of ribs, an order of Mac & Cheese, side of cornbread (this one came with coleslaw and pickles), and an a la mode chocolate bourbon pecan pie. The pecan pie was the only change since if I had gotten the Redding order, I would have had a key lime pie a la mode. I also put in some Alabama sauce because it does ribs a new flavor to play along with. I had everything over the next three days, hence why I am writing this review now. I will start by saying the ice cream did not make it without melting, but that's okay. I wasn't expecting it to since my driver did have to make a bunch of stops along the way, making my order take over an hour to deliver. No fault on the driver or restaurant there, and I ended up drinking the ice cream anyway, and it was still refreshing, so c'est la vie. The pecan pie it came with was actually really good. I found that it's better if you let that chill off a bit. Don't use plastic silverware for this one for the pie will break them, but delicious and sweet all the same. I'd love to have this in an in-person visit. In contrast, the cornbread should be warm when you eat that. It's buttered and soft, but it might be too dry if you try to eat it cold. The pickles are more of the spicy kind. I prefer sweet pickles, but I don't mind them being spicy either. The coleslaw I will say suffers the same fate that befell the one from Boatyard: it doesn't taste like true coleslaw. They should take a bit of inspiration from the Smokies (think Eastern Tennessee or Western NC) to learn how it should be done. It's lacking that mayonnaise component that truly makes it coleslaw. If they added that, then we might be talking! I decided to leave the ribs and Mac & cheese for last in the review because they do provide reheating instructions for those who order take-out such as myself. The Mac & cheese was actually eaten very late on the first night. The instructions given for Mac & cheese were spot-on, baking at 375 for 10 minutes before I dug in. It was some damn good Mac & cheese. Cheesy, love the breadcrumbs, and very satisfying overall. The ribs were the last to be finished. I will say I did also follow the instructions for the ribs as they were written; however, unlike the Mac & cheese, the ribs were still cold in the middle after 20 minutes in 375. You need the microwave to finish the job here. The ribs themselves were good. They weren't the best ribs I've ever eaten, but they were tender, the BBQ sauce was tasty, and the meat fell right off the bone. I will say that for this meal it needs a healthy amount of Alabama sauce all on it to really elevate it, but other than my experience reheating them this was my only criticism. Overall, a worthy BBQ meal. I'd still pick Hindsight BBQ over this if faced with deciding which CT BBQ to go with, but this will get the job done and then some if you need good BBQ. I'd love to come in-person one night and experience this place firsthand.

Our recent family gathering at Via Sforza was like being transformed to our heritage in Italy…read more The service could not have been better. So courteous and accommodating to special requests. Several groups of bread, olive oil and olives placed on our large table were evenly distributed so there was not a lot of passing around. The salad was lightly dressed, flavorful and nicely complimented with thin slices of parmesean cheese. The food is as close to homemade as you can imagine. The eggplant parm was not heavy and delicious. The pasta primavera was a favorite among many. Lots of veggies with a delicate cream sauce. My sister and I had the Parpardelle. So delicious! Not a heavy meat sauce but rather small pieces of thin sausage complimented with hearty mushrooms and peas. The parpardelle was a wide very thin pasta making this dish extra delicious. We had our party of 13 guests in the rear private room which is behind a lovely iron gated archway The decor is so inviting. This was our second year having our gathering at via Sforza. Our plan had always been to have a different restaurant each year as in the past. However, everyone in attendance requested we not change the venue. It's been a wonderful find! I recently got Pappardelle Al Forno (a whopping $30) substituting chicken for sausage and it was an insult: literally half the portion it used to be, with a sprinkling of approximately 8 chicken strips each the size of one strand of shredded carrot. The pappardelle noodles themselves were fine, but the delicateness in the sauce is now heavy and overpowering. Also got the Cacio et Peppe ($28). The portion was what most restaurants would call a Kids Meal. And it was extremely salty. Far superior Cacio et Peppe at Zucca down the road, and you get the exact same portion at their happy hour for $10, or an actual entree portion that's more than twice the size for $22. Sad. After 26+ years of loving Via Sforza, we won't be back.
