Dinner last night to celebrate my wife's birthday. First time to The Cottage (Westport). An amazing meal form start to finish. Drinks: cocktail was well crafted, although was surprised to see wine by the glass only!? Apps: Fluke crudo - tender, with so many unusual flavorings. Just spectacular. Maitake Mushrooms - earthy, smokey and full of flavor. King Salmon - again, very unique preparation, Fish was like butter; cooked perfectly and bursting with flavor. Only critique - could have used something more to round out the meal... wild rice maybe? was a bit small. Burger - top 5 ever! Not over packed. Perfect medium rare, also bursting with flavor. Bacon jam and siracha and other seasonings on a tender brioche (?) bun. In contrast to the salmon, it was a really big burger, but I couldn't stop eating it, and super crispy fries made it complete. Peanut butter sundae - warm peanut butter foam with chocolate ice cream & chocolate fudge. Balanced and delicious. Ambiance was average -- small, with narrow paths; no tablecloths and hard chairs. A bit surprising, had expected a bit more upscaled given the menu, but the food was amazing, and our server was very knowledgable and helpful. We will be back! read more

Came for a private event and they were so amazing. No clue of the cost, so keep that in mind when reading. We had drinks and passed appetizers for 60-90 minutes, then a sit down dinner with 3 courses with wine / dessert wine. I'm sure cocktails would have been fine at dinner as well. Staff was super nice and attentive. Portion sizes could have been larger. I had Sunday dinner at The Cottage this past weekend and will definitely be visiting again to try their next menu update. We started with the deviled eggs, which were perfect with our cocktails. I ordered their Brown Derby, which was very strong but very well made (and I'm not even a bourbon fan). I also ordered the harvest salad which was both gorgeous and delicious, featuring perfectly cooked seasonal produce. I could have done without the whipped cheese portion of the salad, but my friend loved it so it's likely just personal preference. I had the corn tortellini as my main. The brown butter sauce was quite rich, but even the full sized portion (they offer 2 sizes) wasn't overwhelming. The portion sizes were actually perfect throughout. It was one of the best parts of the meal for me because I like to try several dishes and the portions were perfect for this. The ambiance and service were excellent as well. Edit: It is now 3 days later and I am still experiencing bouts of nausea dizziness and stomach discomfort from food poisoning. I am a very healthy person and have not yet been able to eat anything substantial. If this happens to someone who is immuno-compromised there will be far more serious consequences. The rating has been lowered to Two Stars to call attention to this matter. I hope management and staff take note and the requisite preventative action. Wait staff was pleasant and efficient. Aaron our server was terrific. Pleasant atmosphere although the tables are a bit closer than optimum. Service times were reasonable considering it was a Friday night and the restaurant was busy. Ordered the lobster roll appetizer and the Paglia e Fieno entre which I found to be very rich. My partner thoroughly enjoyed her beet salad and the cottage burger which was perfectly cooked to medium-rare. The lobster roll was flavorful and very tender though a little heavy on the butter. Actually it was sopping with butter. This morning brought stark realization why the lobster was probably so tender. Second worst case of food poisoning I have ever had. Twenty-four hours later and still extremely nauseous and having intense cramps and then just now, well you know.... Thankfully I have activated charcoal and arsenicum album on hand which saved a visit to urgent care. An unfortunate end to what had been an enjoyable dining experience. Another great dinner at the cottage! Staff is courteous, professional, with the right amount of customer care, friendliness and respect. The food experience is still unrivaled in the area in my mind. It looks good, it is creative and appeals to your senses in different sequences (including the aftertaste of the spices). Visited The Cottage with a friend. She had been once before and raved about their street corn pasta so we decided to take a trip to Westport. There was ample parking when we arrived. The restaurant is small and intimate. They have a large bar as well too bad I don't live closer or I would definitely frequent. The restaurant also offers outdoor seating. I ordered the piano drink that was delicious. I ordered the crudo to start. The fish was fresh I just wish there was a citrus element to it but it was still very tasty. I got the street corn pasta. It truly was so delicious with the fresh corn and cojita cheese. For dessert I had the panna cotta, the sorbet served with it was so light and refreshing. One of the most amazing culinary experiences I have ever had. Hands down the BEST place in Westport. The interior is tasteful, simple, and beautiful. Tables are small and close together. The service was just the way it should be at fine dining restaurants. Exceptional... Now the food. Each dish was absolutely perfect. There were so many flavors in each dish and made the experience very special. The tuna was so fresh and I savored every bite as there were so many flavors to take in... next was the famous waygu brisket bao buns... it was like a cloud with wonderful sauces and cabbage to accent the perfectly cooked brisket. Came here for my birthday celebration and did outdoor dining in their heated tent. The tent was warm and spacious enough that the tables were decently far apart for those concerned with social distancing. Service was fine, nothing spectacular, but I see how other reviewers were disappointed with it. When you go to a nice and pricey restaurant such as The Cottage you generally expect a certain fine dining level of service. Food came out in reasonable time and water was refilled. Our waitress was not super friendly and did wear a mask, but it was on her chin the entire time. I think it would have been more professional to either just not wear it at all or wear it correctly. We started with the wagyu buns and crab toast. The buns are fun to make and were pretty tasty. It came with a siracha Mayo which could have been spicier. They also come with potato tempura which was super crisp on the outside and light on the inside. The kimchi was decent but could have had more of a kick/punch. The crab toast was good but nothing special. For entrees we had the duck fried rice and the squash angliotti. My husband really enjoyed the angliotti. The duck was tasty and cooked well. The fried rice itself was ok-it seemed more like a rice pilaf texture. For dessert, we got the apple tart tatin which was not very good. The apples had a strange bitter taste like they were super over cooked. In terms of special occasion westport restaurants, The Whelk was a better experience than The Cottage overall. read more

It has been a couple of years since I reviewed the Cottage and I thought I should update it. This place seems to be the spot everyone in the family wants to go when we have a celebration dinner or a special night. I really love the outdoor tent they put up during Covid. The main restaurant is small and the tables are tightly packed. Outside is roomy and comfortable. But the best seat if you can get it is still the bar in front of the kitchen. You get to watch all the action and the making of each dish. The menu changes but they keep some of the all star dishes like the steamed buns (fabulous) and the duck fried rice (a special dish) and the Sunday is huge. Remember I said this is our celebration dinner spot. It is an experience and it is worth the money. Try new things here! read more

Possibly the best restaurant in Westport. Delicious food from a smart nouveau-American menu and lovely, romantic ambiance. Despite that, I have some negatives, mostly on service....we got stuck with a b**chy, detached, inattentive young waitress who clearly didn't seem like she wanted to be there. However, I'm certain her performance isn't indicative of the staff and management norms. The other negative is price. I don't mind expensive, but I do object to overpriced. The Cottage has quickly become one of our new favorite restaurants in Fairfield county! We had a cozy date night here enjoying our seasonal dishes! We loved the green goddess dressing and brioche croutons on our "Cottage Salad". The wagyu brisket bao buns were also a highlight, and it was our first time trying squid ink aioli, which really exceeded our expectations! My fiancé ordered the Berkshire pork tenderloin, which was cooked perfectly and even came with a knödel (similar to matzo balls), which we thought was a great pairing! Their hand-cut tagliatelle was exceptional with lamb, labne, and a touch of mint. Desserts were equally as amazing as the rest of the meal! The broken meyer lemon tart was topped with a thick layer of meringue, and the devil's food cake was topped with a bourbon caramel and paired with espresso mascarpone. The cocktails hit the mark as well, and I appreciated that they had a section for low/no alcohol drinks! Our experience at The Cottage was definitely memorable, and we highly recommend adding them to your list of restaurants to try in Fairfield county! read more

We LOVED our meal at the Cottage. The lasagna was exquisite, soft and fluffy. The pot pie was so flakey and heavenly, gooey on the inside and crispy on the outside. We also had the Spicy scallop tartare on delicious crispy sushi rice and the hot honey english muffin pizza. WILEM (from the Greenwich location) - was the sweetest. We were late to our reservation because our toddler was napping and he accommodated us and was even kinder as we frantically unloaded all of our gear in the restaurant. I recently visited The Cottage in Greenwich with my wife and two other couples. I consider the Cottage (both Greenwich and Westport) to be 2 of the finest restaurants in the area, and would put them on par with the best that NYC has to offer- including food, ambiance and service. With that being said, I must admit that we are regulars here, but what drove me to visit this time is that it is our first trip since the talented Chef/Owner Brian Lewis returned from his finalist nomination in Chicago for the prestigious James Beard Award. We also wanted to impress our friends, and we sure did succeed. From the moment we walked in we were greeting by our lovely host, and seated immediately. The table was beautifully appointed with wonderful views of this stunning restaurant. We all enjoyed top notch cocktails from the bar as we placed our orders with the attentive and friendly server. For appetizers, my wife and I were absolutely blown away by the deviled eggs, which paved the way for the delicious spicy Maine scallops, that must have been caught that day- they were so fresh!!! For entrees, there are just so many extraordinary choices, but let me highlight 4. First, the buttered Lobster roll is simply the best I have ever had, and I urge everyone reading this to go try it and tell me if you have ever had a better one! We also shared the Yellow fin tuna crudo, which was mouthwateringly fabulous. The white miso grilled octopus is perfection on a plate, and the Pekin Duck in one of the most interesting and satisfying ways that duck is prepared- and I eat a lot of duck! This is one of the best restaurants in the area! Their menu has a lot of options for food lovers so fear not has plenty of farmhouse classics with some modern fusions. The service there is very kind my waiter was extremely kind and we even had a lovely conversation together throughout the night when he was available. The decor of the restaurant is lovely it's extremely cozy and it's well lit to where it's not too bright but I can still see everyone. The Cottage was recommended to us by a couple of Westport locals for brunch but sadly our experience there was a big let-down. The interior of the restaurant was quaint yet the space was quite small. Tables are set very close to each other and we could hear the neighboring group's conversation the whole time. We ordered the duck confit hash and lobster egg benedict. 30min later, our hash finally came out but went to the table next to us. The other customer poked the egg on the duck confit, realized it wasn't theirs, and asked the waitress to take it back. 3 minutes later, the same bowl with the poked egg was served to us. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! For the price point and the kind of fine dining experience the Cottage team is trying to identify themselves with, I will pass. read more

She coursed our meal perfectly and even sent us a small dish of pasta on the house. We sat at The Chef's Table and watched the chefs in action. I've heard so many good things about this restaurant and we were in the area so I had to give it a try. In summary, it did not disappoint and I can definitely see why it gets the rave reviews that it does. It's a tucked away location right in the center of Westport which makes it feel busy but homey at the same time. Upon arrival, the door was opened for us by the host and we were very politely seated immediately, even without a reservation luckily. The drinks and food were all a beautiful melding of flavors. The spicy squid & pork belly was the starter we chose and it was served with lettuce wraps. Not something you'd find everyday in my opinion and very enjoyable. The two dinners again were absolutely delicious. The staff was all very inviting and on top of everything as well. Very good experience and food! Had a lovely dinner here right before Christmas. Small cocktail and wine menu but cocktails were very good. No specials the night we were there - menu is small but we all enjoyed what we ordered. 2 in our group had pasta, 1 had the risotto, my husband had the trout and I had the scallops. Had room for dessert so we all tried different things - I had the almond cake which was light and very good, my husband had the cornbread skillet, and our children had the sundae, lemon tart and the pot de creme - a lovely end to a nice evening. Rude waitress, that slams the plates with a poker face, even more rude cow-boyish manager. The spaghetti with "anchovies" (I use quotation marks because there were no anchovies in the pasta whatsoever) was just horrible, flavorless, unsalted, plain with almost no cheese in it. The menu sometimes attempts to be overly descriptive-and to some one ingredient that really has minimal impact on the dish can be a deal-breaker for some. For some there seems to be one descriptor that requires a quick google search for those of us that have not been to culinary school - but its not a negative, more of an inside joke in our group...Westport needs more places that live up to the quality and consistency of The Cottage. read more

Best burger ever!!! I have had lots of really good burgers in my life but this one is something very special. Sadly the fries were undercooked, but it's the burger that counts! The carrot and hummus was wonderful too. Their chef has a way with spices and sauces that is very unique and delicious. The service was chaotic and we had to track down a waiter for a menu, a drink, etc., which was disappointing. However, once we placed our order for food, it came out of the kitchen hot & fast! Misbalanced ingredients in most of the dishes we ordered. The lobster spaghetti lost most of the seafood flavors by the tomato (but spiced perfectly) and very little meat. The venison was a bit gamey and bland but cooked nicely at medium-medium well color. Personally I prefer medium rare with venison. Both entrees served on warm plates but food cool. The chestnut soup too much creams came out tasting like a basic mushroom soup. However the chef hit it out of the park with the scallop appetizer. This small bite was perfectly balanced not only in taste but in texture as well. It was with this bite I saw the chefs expertise if he could just get the description of the rest of the menu to match his food it would be an amazing spot. Had dinner here last week with a small group of people. We shared a few appetizers and had entrees as well. Appetizers first. One person had the Cottage Salad and liked it. I didn't taste that one. Two people had the brisket buns, which were deconstructed make-them-up yourselves items. The menu description hadn't sounded appealing to me, but I tasted and liked the dish. One person had the deviled egg, and seemed to like it. I'm not a deviled egg fan and passed. Someone had the octopus, which normally I like, but I found this one too spicy. As a main, I had the tortelloni with ramps, which was excellent. I ordered the full-sized portion, but given all the appetizers, should have had the smaller one. Others had the spaghetti entree, which was very good too. The long and short of it is that I wasn't blown away, but it was a solid, good meal. I'd give the place another try. Next time, I'll eat less and leave room for dessert. The dessert descriptions seemed incredible, but I was just too full to indulge. Wheelchair accessibility note: There is a long ramp up to the entrance and enough room to accommodate a wheelchair in the seating.
