We were out furniture shopping in Melbourne and were hungry so we stopped here. We were really craving their burgers and of course a milk shake. We walked in, waited to be seated and no one even acknowledged us. Several employees walked by us and there were many behind the counter but not one of them even said "We'll be right with you." After waiting for several more minutes we ended up walking out. Guess they didn't want us as customers. I understand you're busy, but at least acknowledge people when they're standing there waiting. We definitely won't be going there again. read more

I just went through their drive thru. Although all the outside lights were off, my experience was on point. The gentleman taking my order was friendly and my order was correct. He instructed me to pull to a specified to wait for my order. It came in a timely manner and the young woman who brought was very nice. The staff here is very friendly and helpful when explaining special seasonal items on the menu. The food here is good too, tasy. Problem is that the kitchen here is sooooooo slow. Definately slowest of all the steak n shakes I have been to. Workers are chatting too much I think. read more

Fortunately once I spoke to someone here, they were so genuine and kind, she seemed very happy to serve me which is rare nowadays in the fast food industry. Came in one night and order 3 number 7, a number 1, and 1 shake. Got charged for 2 orders that weren't mine and were given 2 shakes that we didn't order. They proceeded to ask for the shakes back even though it's against health codes. After that was all said and we still didn't receive one of our meals. The lady proceeded to throw the change at us and slammed the window on us. This was a horrible experience and I'm usually fine when it comes to mistakes that happen at a fast food industry but this was absolutely horrible. Wish I could leave 0 stars read more

This place is now perfect. I've been back a half dozen times before writing this review. I had stopped going because I kept getting cold food. Not now. No more servers. You walk in, order at the kiosk, go sit down and wait for your food. You get it in a bag and it's hot and fresh every time now. The only bad: DO NOT order the chili late. This USED to be a fairly decent place, the last 3-4 years it's taken a dive downhill. This location doesn't meet the standards of your average Steak 'n Shake. I walked into order3 shakes 3:00 in the afternoon they took my money and I waited 15 minutes (it's not that hard to make a shake) I asked if he was going to be making the shake and he shook his head no. Finally after 35-40 minutes STILL WAITING, I told him if they couldn't get the shakes within a couple of minutes just give me my money back and I'll leave. He immediately scanned my receipt and gave me my money back, no apology and extremely curt about it. The drive-through was full and they ALWAYS wait on those customers first. Don't let them tell you otherwise, even the manager said last year when we went. At that time we, a party of 4 order our meals ( after our server finally showed up) and waited 1 hour and 15 minutes to be served. Our shakes were melted and food was ice cold. This location is now an absolute PIGSTY! It typifies the entire place. Entrance is dirty, cooking area is littered with food scraps on the floor, and the staff is picking fries out of the food area and eating instead of taking care of customers. Adding to what other people have said here.. this place sucks. We have been here twice and both times it was a poor experience. The hostess was rude and acted like she would rather be anywhere else. I witnessed several employees standing around talking while the entryway was full of people waiting to be seated and several tables were available. Food took forever to come out and by the time I got my milkshake it was mostly melted. I feel like the place is poorly managed and the employees just don't care. We were pleasantly surprised to find this restaurant on our way home from the beach We stopped in for a burger and shake We had a patty melt and a shake and both brought us back 20 years which was the last time we were in one. Don't attempt to use the S&S app here because these people have no clue how to use their own equipment! By the time I was able to discuss with them how to use their app reader, they had taken my phone into the store, eight different people had handled it on multiple registers and I'm freaking out because I can't get anybody to the window to give me back my phone! It shouldn't be that hard to use your own equipment that they should know how to by now. The fact that it is against company policy for them to take my phone never mind take it all over the store where it's no longer in my sight OR control, where they can look at stuff on my phone without my permission it's not only illegal it's just really a bad business practice. I offered MULTIPLE TIMES to come in to resolve THEIR INABILITY to make their equipment work including to the Manager on Duty! am totally upset about this not to mention my food was cold by the time they just gave up. So I have cold soggy food my phone has been handled by God knows how many people now I feel compelled to change all my passwords and I wasted a good 10 minutes just attempting to do something that allegedly is simple. Nope, not impressed with this location not impressed with how they handle this and I certainly won't be back!!! I ordered a milkshake through the drive through and didn't get it, had to turn around to grab it, only to be told I was the one that drove away so they couldn't give it to me.. false. My three other drinks were handed to me, and next the food after another few minutes. Then the worker said "my pleasure" and let me know NOTHING about waiting for my milkshake, just made it seem like she was done and ready to take the next customer. We loved Steak and Shake.. ordered the same thing every time, but now a company loses two regular customers because of poor service. I thought minimum wage was raised? Why such poor service now? Every so often, we drive to one of the Steak and Shake restaurants in our area; either in West Melbourne or Viera (though sometimes, Merritt Island). Today, we paid a visit to the West Melbourne S'n'S. This review isn't so much about the food - the food is always pretty good and we're big fans of the chili. But today was a banner day for service mistakes, misorders and the Mystery of the Disappearing Server (cue Scooby-Doo music). We were seated after a minor delay by a disinterested greeter who simply tossed the paper mats on the table and disappeared without saying a word - and without leaving any silverware. Another oddly long delay and our waitress arrives to inquire about drinks and, since we already knew what we wanted, our order. At this point, I got up to visit the restroom. When I returned, our drinks still hadn't arrived. It would be another five minutes before she returned. Now, I should tell you, we nearly ALWAYS order ICED tea. Today, we ordered ICED TEA. It said it right on the menu too. ICED. As in containing ICE. Or logically being at least somewhat cold. What was delivered was tea. Not ICED tea. Just tea, in a glass. And the glass of ice water I also requested.... never arrived. Our chili was brought out - missing the cheese (and on one, onions) that we made sure to ask for. But the worst part was that the chili - which we can assume comes out of a bin heater - was only slightly warm. Not hot by any means. If you took a can of chili and held it in your hands for five minutes and then ate it right from the can, that's how "hot" our chili was. This is the SECOND trip in a row where the chili wasn't even in the same state as 'hot'. The burgers arrived, sans just about everything we asked for. Of course, at this point, our waitress decided to leave the country or something - we didn't see her again until AFTER I walked up front and paid the bill (and answered the manager's question about how everything was.). A total of about 15 minutes. Not once did she come back - we still needed silverware and what happened to our order? I asked the manager if I could get two ICED teas to go, which she immediately asked someone to get - surprise! It was our waitress! Surprise! No ice. read more

I like Steak-N-Shake. I think the food for the timely service is good. It's a 50's style, clean and consistent. Nothing fancy, they don't claim to be, but for the money the food is better than most places that are speed based. If your short on time but want more than fast food then it should be considered. read more

This was my first visit to Steak & Shake and it will most definitely be my last. The menu looked pretty good for a fast food place and with prices similar to Carl's Jr I expected similar quality/quantity. I got the "double steak cheeseburger" meal. I included pictures to show just how pathetic this steaming pile was. I have never in my life seen such a pitiful excuse for a burger patty, or a burger for that matter. This seriously made a McDonalds double cheeseburger look like a Red Robin 12 dollar monster burger. What a joke. It came with shoe strings fries which even when executed correctly are just a terrible idea to begin with. They were unfortunately too grease laden and stale to even choke down a few. The service was decent but i will never again visit any Steak & Shake for fear that this will be the kind of "food" that I'll be served. Just shameful all around. read more

I realize frequenting Gus Belts' original Steak-N-Shake growing up in Normal, IL taints my expectations of all Steak-N-Shakes. I also realize it is unfair of me to judge all S-N-S restaurants against the original. That said, after being seated immediately after entering several wait staff walked by our booth several times, serving other customers who came in after us-ahead of us. Finally, we had someone come and take our drink orders after several minutes. It was several minutes more before a different wait staff member came and took our food order. We ordered chilli and original steak burgers with fries. The chilli was canned kidney beans in a faux meat sauce which was just a touch over room temp. Tasted like all canned chilli from any grocery store. Not even close to Gus Belts' original. The burgers were as good as S-N-S originals and once we were waited on the waitress we had was attentive and nice. For those who have only known Indianapolis based Steak-N-Shake, it has replaced Gus' original chilli based menu items with canned-bland stuff which is not even close to the original. My advice: don't ever order it. One word:YUCK. read more

It's easy to see why Steak 'n Shake is struggling. We ordered online and the restaurant forgot one of our items. I called the restaurant and they said I could leave our dinner and drive 15 minutes each way to pick up what they forgot, but if I wanted a refund I had to call the company customer service number because I ordered online. Well, I've been trying the number they gave me for two days during normal business hours, and all I get is a message saying customer service is not available. I had once gave this location a 3 star review but it has now dropped to a 1 star. (To note: we generally dine after late at night between 11pm and 1am) You get your order taken, drinks dropped off, food dropped off with you bill, and then you never see your server again. At least this has been my person experience for the last 3 visits. Tonight, in particular, there was only 3 tables in the place. The lack of SERVICE is the real issue here. No one comes back to check how things are or to offer refills on drinks. We take our checks to the counter to pay and often have to wait for several minutes while workers wander aimlessly. It's the only place to get a real hamburger out of today's fast food mob scene. You can't beat the prices and the food is actually good. I like the new Philly streak burger and would recommend. You're going to get your drinks first and they'll be watered down by the time you get your food but that's the price you pay when the staff to customer ratio is out of wack. Yes, you're not ever going to see your waitress again so get a good look if after 10 minutes you want to ask someone how your foods coming along. The only other time you'll see her is when the food and check arrive. Thickshakes/Milkshakes are not so thick anymore. They said something about a new process... So, we pulled up to the drive through and the girl taking our order had an unpleasant tone and was short with us. We were then asked to pull up to the curb and wait for someone to bring our two simple burgers and fries out which ended up being 10-15 minutes. Mind you, it's 10:30 pm on a Sunday and no one is really inside and no one in the drive through so I we shouldn't have had that kind of wait. Then when I finally make it home, I go to take a bite out of my burger and there's a little black curly hair in the cheese on my patty. This is a bad review, and I didn't even eat anything. My wife and I stopped at this restaurant for lunch at 1:30 in the afternoon and ended up in line behind four couples waiting to be seated.. The restaurant had at least eight open booths or tables, all of them dirty. The wait staff was not cleaning anything up, and was busy ignoring customers. The staff, walking back and forth, never even acknowledged any of the people waiting in line. After 10 minutes, the first couple went to the cashier and asked to be seated. They were seated at a dirty booth. We waited 10 minutes longer, but when a couple that was leaving told us that they waited 30 minutes for their food, we left, as did two other parties. What was really bothersome was that not one of the employees greeted, apologized or even spoke to anyone that was waiting to eat there. Don't waste your time waiting for bad service! read more

I've noticed that this location in particular, they leave people standing at the door for a long time. The staff passes and looks directly at you without even so much as a "hello". The manager doesn't seem to care much either. Many of the waitresses have horrible attitudes. They don't even smile back and the ones taking orders at the drive through, mumble.
