**INITIAL REVIEW** When I found out there was a Friendly's still open in the Space Coast, I had to make the trek primarily for nostalgia. I remember the simple foods of their children's menu and enjoying Cone Heads there, when I was young, worthwhile memories at a worthwhile place. However, that location was originally on Babcock St. in south Melbourne, and has been closed for many years. As a matter of fact, the old Friendly's building was bulldozed over in which a modern-day 7-Eleven was built in its place. This Friendly's location is on Eau Gallie Blvd. in Indiantlantic. It sure had the nostalgic look of a Friendly's so that was good, but unfortunately, nostalgia would not be enough to truly enjoy my outing here. Maybe I didn't know because I was young and didn't know any better, but Friendly's, at least this location on its initial visit, was sad and disappointing. Though an address is provided, Friendly's is its own building, a nostalgic building that kept to its original build from its heydey, on the southwest cornery of the Eau Ballie Blvd. and AIA intersection. Upon entering, you will be greeted with the classic Friendly's interior, too. However, you can literally "smell" that the wash water needs to be changed out. So imagine the old school smell of clean being a mixture of stale water and old water-based cleaner. That is what you smell walking into the place. I showed up at the swing from breakfast to lunch, and I wanted lunch. Unfortunately, it seems as if making the sudden switch was too difficult for the cooks in the back, an older gentlemen who I was able to hear complain about how it was "too early" for lunch. I still got lunch, though, but you can tell there were issues. For starters, the fried ravioli bites were served to me as if they were cooked in a gas station microwave: scalding hot on the outside, frozen and hard on the inside on a few of the bites. The others were... well... okay. The grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup was okay, too. I will say the basic grilled cheese was better than some other establishments I been to, such as Mash Monkeys Brewing and Planet Grilled Cheese (basic grilled cheese), but the soup was watery. I didn't even bother getting a Cone Head, which as the nostalgia I really wanted to experience because I was disatisfied. The saving grace this visit to Friendly's has is the waitress, an older lady named Jessica. She was very kind and accomodating, and even relayed any of my concerns pertaining to eating lunch "early" though it was at the beginning of the time. I made sure her tip was more than decent. Ultimately, I am going to have to give this Friendly's a two-star rating out of five review. It could definitely be better, but I also believe in the rule of averages and I want to say this might be the one unsatisfactory outing that happens every once in awhile. As for Jessica, thank God for her. You definitely need to give her her due diligence because she definitely deserves to work at a place that is better. read more

This Friendly's needs some TLC. No beef at all with the food and service, but the interior condition (particularly the bathrooms) is in dire need of a makeover: corporate, take notice! Hadn't been in a Friendly's in nearly 40 years but was very happy that the basic French Toast is as good as ever, and the breakfast quesadilla exceeded expectations. Terrific location, too. It's been awhile since I've been at this friendly restaurant. When walking in we were acknowledged by a couple of different people and one came over right away to seat us. My Mom hadn't been here in a while either. They have some great specials we decided on the one that comes with a Happy Ending. My Mom had the BLT with tomato soup, I had a toasted cheese with Clam Chowder. When ordering I asked how much extra for the soup, she said a small upcharge. To me a small upcharge is maybe $1-$2 well it was $ 3.99 for one $2.99 which to me seems like we paid for a cup. So because we didn't get fries a small upcharge ended up costing us almost $8 more for lunch! They do have a 1/2 sandwich with soup for $9.99 that's what we almost got and decided against it because the waitress told us there was a small upcharge. The waitress did check on us a few times , handed us a check for someone else then came back and apologized. I have to say we both really enjoyed the sandwiches and the soup. The clam chowder had a bit more potatoes than I like I just picked them out. My mom enjoyed the tomato soup. And I thought the Clam Chowder was very good. And we both got a Happy Ending, which was choice of ice cream and a topping with whipped cream and a cherry. Of course you can't go wrong with friendlys ice cream. read more

I NEVER leave reviews, never.. but this staff is so insanely rude and mean that I had to do at least something in return. Whoever owns/operates this joint, Im talking to you, what are you even doing with your place dude? I have zero experience running a place and somehow Im the one that needs to give you pointers and advice? YIKES. First, your staff is ALWAYS rude. When you walk inside, you immediately feel a negative energy and aura about the place. The staff looks at you as if YOU are bothering THEM. I didnt even want to ask for napkins because I didnt want to deal with their nasty expressions and service. Like my goodness, im not even kidding this is the rudest and meanest staff I have ever experienced in my decades of going out to eat. Second, why are they skimping on the fries? The entrees come with fries, yet all im given is a half handful every single time. Nostalgia got me in the door, but I promise you, I am never going here again and I have informed everyone I know to not go here. Third, the place is not clean, its always gross in there. Almost as gross as your staffs shitty attitudes. Its really not that hard to run a place like this well. Its SO simple, yet somehow you utterly failed. As a kid growing up, Friendly's was always one of my favorite restaurants. Same with my wife. When we moved down to FL, there were two nearby, but those sadly closed many years ago. All we have now are a couple left in the state, none near us. So when we had an overnight stop near Melbourne before a cruise planned the next day, we were all very excited when we saw that there was a Friendly's nearby, albeit a 25-30 minute drive from the hotel. But it had been so long since we've been that we were happy to make the trek over with our daughter. It was getting a bit late when we checked into the hotel, so we called ahead to confirm that they were open. The person who answered the phone said yes, but FYI their AC wasn't working (apparently for MONTHS) and it was a little hot inside. Ok, not great, but it was somewhat cool outside and again we really wanted to go to Friendly's. We arrived about 45 minutes before they closed, but as soon as we walked in we could tell that we weren't wanted... It was definitely hot inside, a bit too much for my family, so we asked if we could just order to go. The cashier said sure, but then looked a little disappointed when we asked for food menus vs just ice cream. We all ordered a meal, and after she rang it up she, right in front of us, looked back to the cook and said "Sorry!". Uhhhh, excuse me? Look, I get it, you probably want to go home soon and it was clear that they started cleaning up well ahead of closing. But if you want to be closed at 9PM, then close at 9PM, not 10PM. Don't disrespect your customers IN FRONT OF THEM when someone comes in at 915PM and you don't close for 45 minutes. I should have said something then, but bit my tongue. Even with the blatant disrespect, I still gave her a decent tip for just ringing us up, hoping she would share it with the rest of the team working or something. As we waited for our food, a couple other families came in. One sat at a table, the other ordered togo, but you could see they didn't seem happy to still be open. She ended up turning off the outside lights around 940PM, again before they closed. While we were hoping for table service, as well as dessert after the meal, given the heat and unwelcome attitude, we settled for just bringing the food back to the hotel to eat. So after getting our togo bag, we drove the 25+ minutes back, and were very hungry after a long day of driving. Unfortunately, after opening my togo container, I realized they didn't give me what I ordered. I was specific in my request, even saying one of the items that I didn't want on it, and she rang up the completely wrong one that didn't even have that condiment (one would think a smart person might see that as a red flag they had the wrong item...). I even repeated myself twice since she didn't seem to be that engaged. But of course, my meal was wrong and something I wouldn't even remotely eat. The only saving grace, and only reason I am giving this 2 stars instead of 1, is that I called the restaurant back after realizing their mistake, spoke to someone I assume was a manager, expressed my dissatisfaction and issue, and he refunded the full order without hesitation. While that was appreciated, it still meant I didn't get to eat anything for dinner (other than taking a few bites of my wife's food) and missed out on something we were really excited to have. It may sound silly, but we really were looking forward to having dinner there after so long. I guess it will be another 10 years before I try again, assuming they are even still in business at that time. It's sad to see such a nostalgic and beloved restaurant turn into a place with horrible apathetic rude service and so cheap that they can't even pay to fix their AC for months. Nostalgia bought us here and great service and food had us returning 3 more times in a little more than 24 hours! This location has a cute outdated feel to it, but in a great way. It was still very clean. The waitresses we had all were absolutely amazing. They were knowledgeable of their menu and were great with our kids. Our kids want to come back to Melbourne just to go to this restaurant. It is officially their favorite. The food is what you expect and perfectly cooked every time (we should know, we went four times lol). The ice cream is also just as good as we remembered! It was such an amazing feeling and moment watching our kids fall in love with a restaurant that we also loved growing up. 100% would we be back if we could! Deja vu all over again! LOL. I have been in FL since 1978 and haven't visited this Friendly's in more than 20 years. Was in the area recently and thought I would grab lunch there. I grew up in eastern MA and as a teenage the Friendly's that was 8 or 9 miles from my hometown was our teenage go-to place. I am so old that what they now call the Fribble was called the Awful-Awful back then and the gimmick was that if you could finish one the second one was free. Who wanted a second one because the first one was huge? Anyhow, I had a burger and a Fribble (no way as big as the Awful-Awful was). While not the greatest burger in the area, it was still good and the Fribble hit the spot. Had a nice trip down memory lane and yes, if I am in that area again, I may just stop in one more time. read more

If I did not have a little one with me who insisted on having a monster Sunday, I would have walked out five minutes into our 14 minute wait at the podium for someone to seat us. I have never heard "someone will be right here to seat you "so many times before. The waitress did come over to take our drink order almost immediately and they were brought right out. We decided not to have lunch since our wait was so long to be seated. I could only imagine how long it would take to get a meal. I almost didn't order anything because my favorite sundae the Reese's peanut butter cup was not on the menu , thankfully I did ask the waitress and they do make it still! Our ice cream was bought out promptly, however there were no napkins on the table, nor did our waitress give us any. Small children need napkins when they eat ice cream I couldn't find our waitress. She never came back to check on us. The people at the the table next to us were looking as well as their children needed napkins. The grandmother from that group went to the bathroom and brought everybody back paper towels from the bathroom. Insulted by staff over my tip. Overall the food is as expected good but not great but also not bad. We came during lunch they run a special during this time and we sat down and ate. Here is why the one star, after we ate I paid with my wife's debt card left my wallet at home (they also made fun of me for this) wife and I have a shared checking account so it doesn't matter. She rang me up total was $23 and some change, I didn't write in a tip on the receipt because I was gonna tip in cash but again left my wallet at home but no problem my wife has some in her purse but she is currently in the bathroom. I walk away from the counter towards the bathroom standing in a area they can't see me behind the claw machine but I can hear them and they start insulting me for "not tipping" and calling me names for being a man and making a woman pay they start to laugh and call me more names. I bite my tongue and walk out without tipping and decided to write this review instead. So with all that being said DO NOT EAT HERE! My family used to love eating at Friendly's, but it started to go downhill the past few years. Thankfully, this past year, this location has been renovated and seems to be making a comeback! We ordered breakfast (carry out) last week and it was pretty good. Our order was correct and ready on time. My favorite part was the breakfast potatoes with peppers. The French toast and eggs were good as well (note - this photo shows 2 full sides of eggs but even when individual, these are huge). This made up for the size of the sausage links... I have never seen such tiny sausage links in my life. They are about half the size of what you'd expect, so you're probably better off with bacon. Overall, we were pleased, but we also noticed the prices have increased to the point where we may be better off somewhere else for the amount of money involved. read more
