Worst drive thru wait ever!! The night we stopped they were under staffed and the drive thru only had two cars in front of me and it took about 30min. When I got the food it was cold and I had to walk inside. You would think after all that, there would be a sorry or discount but no. Avoid this place if you are looking for decent tasting meal and service. Truly a BAD dining experience even for fast food. No utensils, milkshake was not brought to us, I never got the cookie I was supposed to get, and food was cold. The floor next to our table was covered in fries and napkins. We left half of our meals on the plates and checked out. Manager did not even seem to care that we did not get all the food we ordered, let alone utensils, no refills, and food was cold. Whomever owns this franchise location had better review whether they want to continue to be in the restaurant business. So far your location has a two star rating on Yelp. Food is good, when you finally get it. Milkshakes are flavorful, when they are finally made. Chili is flavorful as I like it, when It eventually gets to my table. Then I notice there is not nearly as much on my plate as is shown in the picture in the menu. So....I no longer go to S &S. Disappoint me once, shame on you! The food wasn't bad, but the place it's self is dirty. I watched a girl take a dirty cloth out of her pocket, wipe a table, put it back into her pocket and she did this several times. I love Steak n Shake but this restaurant needs some serious work! The food itself was good. The service was beyond slow. Many people turned around and left because they couldn't get seated even though the restaurant was not close to being full. We ate our entire meals before our shakes were ever served and they put them in to go cups because they probably knew we wouldn't be sticking around any longer than the hour we had already been there. No one was busing tables. One table hadn't been bussed the entire time time we were there. The people next to us were seated at a table with juice or pop all over under the chairs. The bathroom was dirty. The paper towel was on top of a stall. There was dirt all over the floor. It was disgusting. Find a different place to eat in Troy! read more

The food is good and the service is always great. However, bring a jacket. The manager is a nutcase and sets the thermostat to the mid 50's and then locks the thermostat so that no one can change it but her. I'm not sure the food and service are worth freezing for. I'm always warm, and rarely wear even a sweater, so if I'm complaining, it's really too cold. read more

Piss poor service! My friends and I went one day after school and we were sat instantly however after waiting 25 minutes our server took our order then disappeared. We sat there for 40 minutes and then our food appeared on the window it sat there for 15 minutes until another waitress brought it out. We had two screw ups with our checks and our waitress had to be coaxed into coming out of her office by 3 different people. She said she had "manager stuff" like that's an excuse. We had no discount or anything for a disgusting wait and my friend had to stop me from cussing them out or from dinning and dashing because everyone there is horrible. If my waitress was the manager and I was the owner I'd burn the whole place to the ground. A top that I emailed the higher ups and they did jack shit for me. read more

My girlfriend always told me steak and shake was a good place to eat. She said their food was amazing. So after our trip from Tennessee back to Michigan we decided to stop there and I would try it. After going thru the drive thru the customer service was not so good. The lady over the speaker had an attitude because we took too long. It was a lot to take in because I didn't know what to order but if I ever stop around there I would definitely stop and eat burger king or Culver's a few exits down. I always liked the sandwiches and most of the drinks here. They were reasonably priced and you still got table service. My biggest gripe are their new shakes. I don't believe they even have ice cream in them any more. Instead they are made out of some kind of flavored glop that is reconstituted with milk. Most of the time they aren't even cold. If they are going to reopen, please bring back real milk shakes with real ice cream. I mean, you feature "Shake" in your name. Let's offer something you can be proud of. read more

Sunday 6-25 Was at S&S ordered the regular/original. The service was very slow-busy and it took better than 45 minutes for my order to be set in front of me. When it arrived the fries were under cooked greasy and cold. The burger was cold and greasy. In short the food was not fit for man or beast. This restaurant had you waiting for a table over 15 minutes. When we got seated it was more than an hour before we got our food. Our waitress could not remember anything and acted spaced out. When our food finally came it was cold and the order was wrong. I got a cold sad single cheese burger with nothing on it. I order it with everything but lettuce. My grand daughters chicken was cold. I was not suppose to get fries since I only ordered a sandwich.When we left we waited more than 15 min for someone to cash us out. Another gentleman was there even longer. My husband went in to the Troy, OH location about 3 weeks ago around 5:10 am and wanted to order breakfast and was told they don't serve until 6 am. (Website states 12 midnight - 11:00 AM for breakfast). He left and went to McDonalds for breakfast. About 2 weeks ago we both went in and stood and stood and no one seemed to want to seat us (there were about 4-5 employees). They were mopping the floors and it stunk to royal heaven (possibly mops needed to be cleaned and rinsed out once in awhile). We left and went to Frisch's. Today we were there and got seated after a couple of minutes. Took at least 10 minutes to place order although there were probably about 6-8 employees working at the time and it was not very busy. The hot dog buns were sort of hard (not toasted or warmed up). We ordered 2 glasses of water and were charged 21 cents tax on each!!! When we got ready to leave we stood by cashier area for at least 10 minutes and no one seemed to want to take our cash so we just placed it on the counter and left. It wasn't worth waiting to get our 50 some cents back. This use to be the greatest place to eat prior to Steak N Shake firing this one lady (I believe her daughter also worked at this location.) that was so great and drew in a room full of customers. She usually knew what you wanted to order when you walked in the door. Since her departure over a year ago this location has really went downhill. No one seems to care about customers. We always enjoy stopping at Steak and Shake both at home and when we travel because we love the food and our favorite shakes BUT why does management insist on having the a/c down soooo low??! It is beautiful outside and we walk in here and it is freezing, so much we skipped the shakes, not a good way to sell something cold. If they offered outside seating then it would have been perfect. Traveled through the Troy Ohio area on my way south several times. Was a good stopping point for a burger and shake. Always seemed to have the pleasure of having a young lady named Emilee take care of us. She was always pleasant and wore a beautiful smile, although sometimes she was so extremely busy doing just about everything in the restaurant we would not have the opportunity to enjoy a conversation. Stopped by again on our through Troy recently, and was so very disappointed to learn that she was no longer there, and boy could we tell a difference! The service (and food) was terrible, and our waitress was almost completely non-existent! Obviously the lack of training or proper management is needed in this place. I guess we never realized just how awful it was because of Emilee and her ability to be a "jack of all trades". Love Steak 'n Shakes shakes fries and burgers! However I left this one after I almost fell on the nasty floor in the dining area. We stood for over 10 minutes looking at empty, dirty tables. I could see 4 people standing talking in the back and one guy actually working. When we finally started toward a table my foot slid on the floor. I left. I've been here before and it was dreadfully slow due to it being packed. So if you're zipping down I-75 at 2 am service may not be am. Otherwise I'd find somewhere else. read more

We went for my daughters 12th birthday (her choice) waited for about 15 minutes to get sat, not overly busy either....waited another 15 or so minutes to have a waiter come and take our drink order, brought out our drinks and took our food order....we got there right before 5:30, finally left at 6:45 without ever seeing that waiter or our food again. Absolutely worst experience ever. We were going to pay for our drinks and they couldn't even be bothered to send someone to the register. How this place stays open is beyond me. Except it's absurd that my family has waited so long to get our food(and another table's food was incorrectly delivered to our table) when there seems to be adequate staff and not a full lobby. I went here with my boyfriend one night for a (what we thought) would be a quick eat. We stood waiting for about 20 minutes, seeing that people only 3 other parties were sat. We stood there, realizing that 2 other parties had walked in and walked out, waiting less time for us. We finally got sat right before we were about to leave. It took the waitress 10 minutes to come around and ask what we wanted for a beverage and to eat. We waited, seeing other people leave and it was about another 20 minutes (still with no drinks and no food) until the manager had come around and tell us our waitress had walked out on us. I dont know if it's just me, but we did get a discount but the fact that we sat around there for so long was ridiculous. The floors were also sticky like they havent been mopped in so long. Looking at the back, it seemed so greasy and fiflthy with trash laying everywhere. This place definitely needs a health inspection, because thay environment is not sanitary.
