Ordered for pickup 12:08 to be ready 12:24. Called and spoke to man at 12:35 and inquired where is food. So sorry was advised be right out. 10 minutes later called again. Update 7/01/18 I'm dropping a star. I've ordered takeout several times since my first visit. Some have been good, some mediocre and one poor (a jalapeno burger that came with lots of raw onion instead of jalapenos, onion crisps and sauce). They need to decide on a coupon policy. On a number of visits people dressed like management tell me they don't need the coupon so I show up without it (online order uses code on coupon) but now an employee asks for it. Frustrating. When they do it right, this is my favorite burger place but too often they don't. 4/25/18 I've tried four different burgers. Wow! Burgers - All were nicely cooked. At this point the jalapeno crunch and garlic burgers are my favorite. I could eat those every single day! Shoestring fries - I'm not a big fan. In store they're fresh & hot but carryout orders cool off and get soft, nearly mushy, by the time I get home. I prefer the clown's fries. Shakes - Not bad. Nice & thick with a big dollop of whip cream. Service - Had a very good waitress during in store visit. On a subsequent visit I ordered carryout at the counter. There was a misunderstanding of my order so I had to wait for it to be corrected. Not a big deal and they made things right. This is my new favorite (low price) burger place! read more

We went through the drive-thru and the guy taking our order made us feel really special. He seemed really upbeat and excited to serve us and he told us so. The burgers are actually quite delicious and are among the best burgers we've ever had. There's nothing on the drive through food menu That's vegetarian except french fries. The food was good but the service was not as stellar. We waited for about 10min for a table when there were tables available then We waited for menus. We also had an issue with a promotion. We were told a promotion for a milkshake was not current even though it clearly states in the app it was. When our food did come several things were missing or wrong. I was completely enamored by youtube videos of people eating and reviewing this place. I was expecting it to taste like a magical fast food burger, but instead, I just cringed and immediately regretted swallowing. That was the bite of the mushroom swiss burger. So I had also gotten the all american to try and took a bite hoping it would be better. No such luck. It was like a blind person just threw all the ingredients onto the burger and then they threw it in the bag. I admit, the onion was potent for fast food, but could it make up for the gross taste of the rest of it? No. The price was the cheapest I have ever spent on that many fast food burgers, but when you just end up taking one bite and throwing the rest in the garbage, is that saving money? Rhetorical. And the so-called "fries"? So disappointing. If I was taking a blind test of those "fries" I would never in a million years have come close to guessing that is what it was. I am not quite sure what has happened to this restaurant . When we first got there we stood waiting to even have our name taken . Seems nobody was in charge of being a hostess . After observing several people throwing their menus down and walking out we were gonna just leave but my grandson wanted to eat here. We were finally seated after another ten minutes wait. Others were seated after us and we observed their orders being taken before ours. Waited quite some time for our food and noticed the family behind us got their food free for their inconvenience. When my son paid the bill he was given $2.00 off for the slowness . The other family were also offered free shakes for the wait . Will not be going back to this restaurant anytime soon. The own r leaves the manager and staff to drown without enough help. You wait forever to be seated. Then the waitresses hurries you through your order. The food is ok once you get it but don't hope for a refill on your drink because the waitress doesn't come back. Then you want to pay? Hopefully one of the overworked staff will have a second to take your money but be ready to wait for that too! Absentee owner or he/she is worried more about his pocketbook rather than the customer. I have been here 4 times total. The first 3 were absolute disasters!!! The 3rd time is the straw that broke the camels back! It was my son's birthday and everything was horrible. The service was really bad. Me and the table next to ours had to constantly get up and ask for things. We saw the waitress maybe twice the whole time. The food was chewy and unflavorful. They NEVER brought our milkshakes out. Everything was so bad that i cried when i complained to the manager because i felt so awful that my son's 5th birthday lunch was ruined. And the manager was so rude (he was an older portly guy) and acted like he didn't know what to say or do so he just said that i didn't have to pay. I called a few weeks later and talked to a different manager who was so nice and i got a free meal and some coupons. When i went to redeem the meal and get the coupons the waitress we had was SO nice but i think i got the older guy manager he argued with me saying that i had to pay for my meal and that i ONLY was allowed to get the coupons but i had to keep correcting him. But this Steak N Shake gives them a bad name. If i want to go to a GOOD Steak N Shake i'll go to Largo. At least the staff and managers know what they are doing there!! read more

Great price for the quality of food you get! I have only been here twice, both times at 5:30am, so I can't say much for how the joint operates during meal times. But I have been happy both times. Though I must point out that service was mediocre both times I was there. My group and I were the ONLY ones there, so there is no excuse for poor service when you are the only customer. read more

After waiting on a long drive thru line, brought my order home forgetting to check inside the bag. I ordered two single steak burgers with cheese and lettuce and tomato and fries. What I received was 1 steak burger no cheese and a grilled chicken sandwich that wasnt even cooked all the way. I have also experienced poor service "at times", but not enough from keeping me from going there. Also recently relocated to Florida and have found service to be spotty at various food joints. If service gets too bad, I hold them accountable and ask to speak to a manager. If you don't complain about the service, then the manager cannot spot the problem quicker. Eventually, that server may get booted. I know that by not going there, that also sends a message, however, these places remain busy. By complaining, maybe we can improve the quality of service? When we first walked in i thought it might have been a mistake to go there again. I took awhile to be acknowledged or seated. Some days my fries are just the way I like them and other days they are soggy as if they were soaking in water. I love a good tasting juicy burger and Steak N shake has some of the best for a fast food restaurant. I do have issues with the way they cook them. A good burger should not be smashed as flat as possible and drained of the tasty juices it holds. Also a good burger should be cooked around medium in temperature. They always overcook them to well done to the extent that they will have a crunchy/charred outer shell. Is this the way they intend them to be or is it the cooks interpretation of a good burger? Imagine doing the same to chicken, fish, etc. They will become dry, tough, tasteless, etc. The service can be lacking at times. read more

I don't normally write reviews but this place needs to shape up. They used to be great. Consistently awesome hot delicious food. Usually go thru the drive thru. Rarely eat inside so I can't speak to the inside service. The few times we did eat inside the service was slow but the food was good. Lately, the quality of the food is poor. They messed up my wife and my order on several recent trips there. On top of that, the food thru the drive thru was barely even warm, suggesting that it was not made to order but sat there waiting for someone to order it. If I want food that sits already cooked in a draw till someone orders it, I'll just go to McDonald's. The side order of onion rings was burnt (that was the only part of the meal that was actually hot) and there was only 4 puny little onion rings in the entire order! I don't know if their issues are because of some recent management change or something but they really need to shake things up (no pun intended) and get back on track. read more

This is one of the worst places to eat in Hernando county. Had to ask some one to seat us as there were 4 other groups behind us. There were 5 waitresses in the prep area. None of them would acknowledge we were waiting. They sat us at the only table that was clean. There were 5 tables around us that were filthy. It took 12 minutes before a waitress came to ask us for our drink order. The couple behind us just got their food. The burger was supposed to have cheese on it, it didn't. They just brought her a slice of cheese. They were half way done with their burger and they brought out the other half of the order, fries and lettuce and stuff for their burger. My husband and I just moved to Florida and kept seeing this place so we decided to try it one night. We thought it was fast food but you actually sit down and get waited on. My husband and I both waited tables for years, so we're pretty lenient when it comes to restaurant service but our waitress clearly does not have the skill set to serve a table. First my husband ordered unsweetened iced tea and I got a peanut butter cup milkshake. She brings a sweetened tea and a butterfinger shake. I sent the shake back, my husband figured that since we're sort of in the south he should just get used to sweet tea. My husband ordered a burger, no tomato with chili cheese fries. Simple enough right? A half an hour later she brings him a burger with tomato and regular fries. It got sent back because the tomatoes were diced and mixed into the cheese. My husband loathes tomatoes and couldn't eat it like that. My food was also wrong, but close enough and I was starving so I ate it. It took another 30 minutes to get my husband's burger. I had long since finished my food. Burger had no tomato but regular fries so my husband asked for a side of chili and cheese. She brought a side of cheese. It was almost laughable at this point. She blamed the slow kitchen but when we got our receipt everything was rung in wrong. Despite what it sounds we're not picky people. The food was pretty good and the prices are awesome but the incredibly inept service will keep us from going back. read more
