This was our first visit to the Pensacola Steak 'n Shake after years of skipping the chain due to poor service at another location. We'd been wanting to give it another shot after hearing about their commitment to healthier cooking options, and I was especially excited to try the beef tallow fried French fries. The America 250 campaign caught our eye, so we stopped in for dinner--and wow, what a turnaround! The double cheeseburger was fantastic--a perfectly cooked smash burger with great flavor and that ideal crispy edge. But the fries? They were incredible. Hands down the best French fries I've ever eaten, and definitely the best fast-food style I've ever had. Crispy, perfectly seasoned, and that beef tallow makes all the difference. We finished it off with a perfect milkshake--creamy, thick, and exactly what you want. We've already gone back twice since that first visit. This location has earned a permanent spot in our rotation. My family recently visited Steak n' Shake. Everything was great. Our server, Rachel, took good care of us. We ordered a variety of burgers, grilled cheese, and I tried the steak frank with chili and cheese. The fries here are absolutely fantastic! Frying them the old fashioned way in beef tallow is just awesome. I just had a soda, but the rest of the family had shakes, which are reportedly very tasty. The place is kind of a throwback to the 50's or 60's, except that it has all the modern electronic mechanisms in place to keep up with technology. The vibe however is a fun retro feel. We love it. Food was decent, but rather sloppily put together - the burger was messy when unwrapped and was also missing requested toppings (even though it was repeated back). I visited a Steak and Shake one other time. That visit was over ten years ago. I don't remember much, so we decided to give them a try for lunch. Their burgers come in a basket with fries. And let me just start by saying I really enjoyed the fries! They are really thin cut, they were very fresh, and they were sooo tasty! The burgers were really good, too. The place was pretty busy, so service was a little delayed, but not too much. We got everything we needed and we enjoyed our lunch very much. Staff was doing a good job keeping the place clean. We walked in and were asked if we were dining in or take out. We said take out and went up to the self serve station but realized what we wanted wasn't on the menu so we waited at the front for 10-15 minutes, while workers were on their phones. A worker walked up to us said they would be back, we waited another 5 minutes and no one showed up so then went to be seated. We told the waitress that we were just wanting take out but no one was helping us and that the self serve didn't have what we wanted. She then yelled at us to go back up to the counter, we explained what happened and she just kept repeating herself. We got up and left and the waitress yelled across the store saying that we were assholes for the whole restaurant to hear. At approximately 1:50 pm on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, I and my wife went to the Steak 'n Shake restaurant located at 2057 Airport Boulevard in Pensacola. It was my wife's 64th birthday. When we walked into the restaurant, we went to sit at our favorite table. After we sat down, the young female employee rudely pointed to a sign which read, "Please Wait To Be Seated." We hadn't seen the sign because it was positioned off to the side, not directly when you walk in the door. We then ordered some Coke's while I tried to let the matter go, but it was bothering me a lot how she had mistreated us, treating us like children. So, we decided to leave and go elsewhere, to a restaurant where they appreciate their customers. With two Coke's in her hand, the female employee then asked why we were leaving and I told her, "I don't like that you pointed out that sign to us; we are the customers." We left. She shouldn't have made an issue to us about the stupid sign. Who cares if we sat down on our own? She should have been glad that we came. Furthermore, you would only expect to wait to be seated in an upper scale establishment, not at a small burger joint. The young woman needs to learn to show respect for the customers or be fired. I was traveling and just wanted a quick bite to eat--not in my car, but at a table where I could sit down for a few minutes and relax. I walked into this Steak 'n Shake expecting to use one of the self-order kiosks which clearly said they could be used for both dining in and takeout. Instead, I was told that I couldn't use the kiosk for dine-in orders "because they were getting new machines" or something like that, and was forced to go through full table service instead. That meant waiting longer, dealing with an unnecessary card handoff, and having to sign a paper tip slip--all for a simple burger I could've ordered and paid for myself in less than a minute. To top it off, a staff member made an odd, condescending comment about how "this isn't Alabama", which felt unnecessary and unprofessional. It's frustrating to see a place that clearly has the tech to streamline the experience--especially for travelers--actively block you from using it. I wasn't asking for fast food service. I was asking for a modern, self-directed option they already had available. Though this won't be a very long review - it's only because I usually go there for their milk shakes! They have the classics milk shake choices: chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and banana. Then they have the specialty milk shake flavors such as birthday cake, Nutella, cotton candy, etc. We both chose the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup milk shakes. They are even more heavenly than the pics! They also state on their website that they have Happy Hour which is half priced milk shakes and drinks. It states those hours are: Monday thru Friday 2-4 pm. Well sadly, another one bites the dust. I have been coming to steak 'n Shake for years. It is the one place that I love coming to when I come to this side of town but this is now the third time that my meal is not made the way it should be. The meat tastes like it was warmed up and dried by microwave. The "grilled" onions are mixed in with raw. The bread isn't soft. The cheese isn't melted. The fries were chewy and lukewarm with no golden color to them. Management is not doing their job and the "locally run" is a crock! If the owner was that invested in his business he would be more knowledgeable of how Food is coming out of the kitchen. First, I wanted to say that I like steak n' shake as a whole because of the steak burgers. The food here was decent enough and the staff was pleasant but the place needs some help. There are ceiling tiles where you can see there were roof leaks that have not been replaced. Ceiling tiles are relatively easy and cheap to replace yet, this not happened. One of the air conditioner registers were dripping water on a table constantly That could be because the air conditioner was that extremely low, so low that must patrons complained about how cold it was. They actually deserve ZERO stars. Negative five stars, if I could. I was under the impression that the burgers were made fresh and cooked to order. I visited two other Steak 'n Shake locations further down South and both were fresh, hot, and good so I assumed this location would be too. First of all, the other locations had the 4.44 meals, this one does not. We ordered two original double steak burgers with cheese. Both burgers were cold, stale and dry. The meat was overly crispy and cold. The hamburger bun itself wasn't even fresh. There was no way that burger was made fresh, it was definitely from earlier in the day. Fries were the only hot thing. My passenger ate their food because they needed to take meds and I chose to return mine for a refund. Went back in the drive thru, told them the issue and there was no apology given, an offer to rectify the situation, nothing. Nobody cared that two customers were unhappy with the quality of their food. I assume the black female with the dreads was the manager since she had to come over and process the refund. She handed me back my card without saying a word and handed me my receipt without saying a word. Just looking at me with a attitude like she's upset that I refused to eat cold stale food that I paid for with my hard earned money. The waitress said they don't have regular ice cream anymore, just soft serve. So the the hand-dipped shakes that earned them their Zagat award are gone, even though the sign is still up. My milkshake tastes exactly like cinnamon toast crunch milk. It had pieces of the cereal in and on top with a cherry. It was amazing!!! My bf had the turtle milkshake (caramel and chocolate) and he finished it all. I had the jalapeno crunch burger which has pepperjack cheese, lettuce, jalapenos, salsa, chipotle mayo, and fried onion pieces. I asked for bacon to be added on my burger but they forgot to add it. It was not spicy either, much to my disappointment. It was still a pretty good burger with flavors that mashed well together. The patty was thin, but juicy with some crispiness to it, which I really liked. All of the burgers come with fries and if you are expecting thick cut fries, steak fries, or crinkle fries, they don't have that here. The fries are very small, stringy, and thin (shoe string fries). However, they are super crispy and they give you a good amount of fries. I tried their Cajun seasoning on the fries for the first time and it was tasty. Prices are pretty cheap. Most of the menu items were $4-$7.The quality is pretty decent for what you are paying for. It's worth it in my opinion and they are open 24 hours! Walked in and there are two waitresses and they have a few customers not many and all the tables were dirty so we sat down in a dirty booth and when the waitress came over she didn't even attempt to clean off the table and started to just lay the menus down in the mess on the table so I asked her if we could get the table cleaned she pulled out a damp rag from her apron (that looked like she had been cleaning the floor with!) should have left then but we didn't.. well lesson learned cause the food was awful also so we won't be back... oh and I can't post this without a star rating but if I could it would be a 0 star rating! read more

After a long late night/early morning (2/23/21) at the hospital with family, I went to this location to get food, knowing it is listed as open 24 hrs. It was 4:30 AM, I hadn't eaten in roughly 22 hrs. Went to the drive up menu to find a handwritten note stating "Closed. Will re-open for breakfast". No time listed for that re-opening. Being the only 24 hour place in the area, I was unable to get food. I was very unhappy, and needless to say, Hungry. Wasn't aware that chains advertised as "Open 24 hrs." Just randomly closed.
