I just got off work at 4am and decided to grab a quick bite to eat. When 3 employees are outside passing a j between them, that should have been a sign. After being seated, 10 minutes later the server says she will be right with me. I told her take her time. Apparently she thought I was being literal and decided to chill with her friends that just came in right before me in the corner. I left 15 minutes later. Had not come to this place in a while. Wow . Man what a change to my prior visits. For starters they force you to order through a computer. I absolutely hate doing this. I come to this place to get away from computers and to relax. To add insult to injury the computer asks if I want to leave a tip. I should be the one getting the tip since I had to work. They should give me a discount for working to place the order. Next they had no shakes. How can this be? Do we have a milk shortage? Is the machine broken? A place like this should have at least two machines in case one breaks down. Finally the quality of the soda machine was horrible. The mix ratio is totally off. I love Steak 'n Shake but just thinking about the ridiculously horrible customer service and wait line in the drive through makes me think twice about going there! Every single time I go I have to wait 30-40 mins for my food. Mind you, my order is not complicated in any form, I order chicken tenders and fries for my daughter there's absolutely no reason why there's a 10 min wait JUST to get my order taken and when I finally get up to the window, they ask you to wait up front for your order. I get there at 11:40 and she tells me they're only doing online orders I proceed to do the online order and the website tells me they're closed. This place deserve zero stars. Normally I do not write bad reviews. I have given this place plenty of chances to redeem themselves but each time I come to this place, the service is so bad. Really bad!!!!!! The moment you want walk in, you are waiting in the front door for 15-30 minutes while you have waiters and waitresses walking by the front door serving other people. They do not have the audacity to even greet you or tell you "give me a few minutes I will attend you shortly". None of that... what gets me upset is they see the door piling up with people waiting, they make eye contact with you, and don't say a damn word. They keep going. Even the cashier who is facing directly at the front door does not say a word. You can look around and there are plenty of tables empty. I just do not get it.Tonight I waiting 30 minutes to be seated. I waited another 15 minutes for some kid to take my order. Order placed. 30 minutes later I received the food, but no milkshakes. While I was eating my food, I had to witness the kid who took my order, just joking around with the other waiters and a customer who happened to be a friend of his just talking right in front of our table while we are STILL waiting for our milkshakes. Our waiter walked by our table 17 times (yes I counted) and not one time did he ask how was our food or tell us our milkshakes will be ready soon. Meanwhile all this going on, somebody apparently dropped a plastic cup (the ones they serve the water and soft drinks) and rolled from the back of the restaurant to almost the front door. So what did they do with that cup? They picked it up and placed it right where the other cups were. At that point, enough is enough. I called my waiter and asked for the check. I am always in the mood for a good burger. What is even better is a good burger and shake. Thankfully, Steak n' Shake aims to give customers just that. Sadly, this location does not completely fulfill that aim. Simply put, the dishes and service are just underwhelming. Customers would usually expect a lot from fast food restaurants so they can be impressed, but they should expect twice that amount from this Steak n' Shake location. The staff at this Steak n' Shake location is cooperative with the customers, and communicates with them well. Should the food take long to prepare, the staff lets customers know how the food is coming along before it is ready. However, there was one waitress I had in the past few visits: I do not remember her name, yet even if I did, I prefer not to say it. During every one of those past visits, she failed to show any sign of enjoyment of her job - from when she greets me, to when I would pay her at the register. There were also a few instances when my waiters would fail to ask if I wanted to eat anything else, and merely hand me a check. One time, they gave me a check before I told them that I wanted a parfait after I finished my main course. I have no complaints about food preparation and my orders reaching my table: they come in fairly quickly - ten minutes at most for them to make my orders. The food, while tasty, would sometimes feel bareboned or undercooked. One time, I ordered a Mushroom Swiss Burger, but the bun was a bit to sticky to touch, and tasted like it was steamed instead of baked. I prefer my hamburger buns fluffy and soft rather than a bit wet. The shoestring fries, while less savory than other restaurants around town, are crisp and fun to eat by the bunch. It is best to eat these kinds of fries with a fork. While the prices are reasonable, they do not excuse how underwhelming the dishes are upon taste. One time, I had all-you-can-eat pancakes for $3.99. Again, the pancakes are tasty like the other dishes served, but the pancakes are not fluffy as those at IHOP or Denny's. They came served in a droopy stack, and taste more mushy than fluffy. On a lighter note, the hash browns came served nice and warm. So did my Sausage, Egg n' Cheese Biscuit Sandwich. I am not a big fan of my biscuits of having a slight crunch to them, but I did not mind it in the biscuit sandwich I had. However, when it comes to their sweeter dishes and options, Steak n' Shake rarely disappoints. Such can be said for their milkshakes, which is one of the restaurant chain's signature offerings. Along with classic milkshake flavors, Steak n' Shake milkshakes come in several kinds of blends, including Peanut Butter Cup and Cookies n' Cream. The milkshakes are filled to the brim - sometimes with a little left over served in a separate cup. More importantly, they are thick and creamy, well-blended and fun to drink. Also, the parfait I had at this joint was tart and refreshing, and it gave me more bang for my buck. In fact, Steak n' Shake parfaits are the same price as, but twice the size of McDonald's parfaits. Plus, Steak n' Shake parfaits fill up glasses just enough so that nothing spills over when you dip your spoon in. The ice cream sundae, on the other hand, was served during one of my past visits with lukewarm chocolate syrup between the scoops. I expected the chocolate syrup to be a bit warmer to accentuate the contrast between itself and the cold ice cream. The sundae tasted great, nonetheless. Steak n' Shake is a cool place to sit down and eat, but it is not on par as what a good restaurant should be, in terms of dishes served and dining experience. I would not highly recommend this restaurant as one of the best places to eat in Miami; you are better off eating someplace else. As for me, I am willing to give the restaurant another chance every time I visit. The next time I do, I expect spot-on dishes and a more pleasant sit-down experience. read more

Similar to Johnny Rockets, this restaurant seems to attract a younger crowd of undertipping high school teens who like to put condiments in each others drinks when one gets up to use the restroom, and leave once they've done a fine job in spilling and smearing everything they ordered all over the table. The only reason I'm generously giving them 3 stars is because the milkshakes are delicious. They have a wide variety of flavors (Chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, banana, ,mint, cookies & cream, peanut butter, Cookie dough, M&M's,....etc) If you're lucky and theres no one in the drive thru, then God loves you. Steak n Shake.... There are things I love, and things that I don't quite like. For starters, there ARE reasons to come here. And these reasons keep me going back, year after year. 1. skinny fries - while they are skinny, they won't keep you skinny. But they sure are tasty! 2. shakes - they constantly update and change them, from malt to cheesecake to turtle sundae shake, I can't say no when the craving comes. 3. sit down fast-food - sometimes you want a cheap meal with the diner experience. The burgers are quite yummy from what I recall, my favorite was the Frisco Melt. Now, being a vegetarian, I opted for the grilled cheese with frisco sauce and added mushrooms - very, very accomodating. I like. So everytime ive gone to this steak n shake (as a sit down) ive never had a good experience. -They wouldn't serve us breakfast at 10:30 - when clearly stated breakfast ends at 11. Its not hard to crack an egg and make some toast. -They've messed up our check- and fought us on it -They've messed up our order- and fought us on it. The food is acceptable but nothing fantastic. I can get a burger at the golden arches and be equally satisfied for cheaper. If you like cheese fries, i suggest to pass on them here, unless you like fake cheese spread on your fries. The only thing going for this steak n shake (and what saved it from 1 star despair) is that is has a drive through and the only thing i get from the drive through is a milk shake and that they have never messed up, even with their bazillion flavors/makes/models of shakes. They will make it extra thick if requested, but be careful because it is really thick! OH and speaking of flavors of shakes...if you like candy banana flavor (or as i like to call it fake banana flavor) then you would love their banana shake if not don't try it. My god. This is the WORST restaurant I have ever visited. I had been a couple times, and each had been progressively worse than the last, but today was just over the top. Finally, the poor server comes up to us, seats us and warns us that there is about a 25 minute wait on shakes, and that he would be right back because the table behind us had been waiting that time. I looked around, and the 3 other tables being helped looked furious. He left, so my friends and I began chatting. I looked at the time: 2:08 a.m. There was dirty tables everywhere... Employees didn't seem to care about anything, and the drive thru line was absurd, even with people leaving. 10 minutes passed. Not a single visit. 15 minutes later, the shakes for the furious table behind us came out. Not even a visit to ask if we wanted drinks. 20 minutes. 25 minutes. 30 minutes. Not even a water! Nothing. Zip. Zero. Nada. At this point, I was furious. I looked over, and our server was taking his sweet ass time, walking around doing NOTHING. Another man around us got up, and yelled "I feel bad for the servers tip, but F**K THIS PLACE. The service is awful" and left. I feel the same way. My group and I proceeded to do the same and left. Without food. Without water, nothing. Moral of the story... I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. Steak and Shake will never receive a visit from me ever again. The service at this Steak 'n Shake was probably the best I've had at any! Our server was very friendly, attentive and personable. She realized a mistake before even setting the food on the table and was quick to fix it. Not all service was great there though, I was evesdropping (I didn't have to try too hard though, it was pretty public!) on a conversation between a young hostess and her friends that I would have rather not heard...especially over my meal. Speaking of my meal...the fries are one of the signature sides and after raving about them to my steak 'n shake virgin friend, I was a bit disappointed in their pale color and cold temperature! My boyfriend and I used to have an obsession with steak and shake. Lately, our visits have been much less frequent. There service lately has been beyond slacking. The restaurant doesn't even have to be full for the service to be slow. The waiter or waitresses seem over worked and over stressed, making them want to do their jobs less and less. Half the time our food takes so long that it either comes out cold or the wrong order completely. When you let them know your order was wrong they do correct it or give you something complimentary, but it doesn't stop the disappointment knowing that this restaurant used to be my favorite spot. They certainly need to hire more people. If they had a larger staff then maybe their tables would be cleaned, allowing them to sit the entire restaurant to capacity, rather than having people leave because they no longer want to wait. My worst experience there was having to wait 2 hours to even get my drinks, by the time my food got there we were getting ready to walk out the door. The waiter was so upset that he DEMANDED that we pay for the meal since it had already been made. Needless to say we spoke to the manager. Got a complementary meal, because it was coming out of our waiters check. He was so upset he threw a tantrum and started breaking plates in the back of the kitchen.
