The scans are limited which would be fine except for the fact that both the Hawaiian Punch and sprite were extremely flat forcing me to pour them out and use those scans unnecessarily. It is sad they are no longer the 24-hour hotspot for late night burgers, sloppy addictive grilled cheese, and famous shakes. Closing earlier and limited staff due to low wages it seems but my dip in here for the first time in ages went very well. The two working the grill and cow shaking station were friendly and quick to make sure my mobile order was started even though I had just placed it while walking in. And the mobile app! Possibly the smoothest and most intuitive one out there, ripe for easy gift card integration, customizing dishes, and sorting options. I only did two shakes this time but find myself quickly reminiscing about the good old days of the Royal Steak burger, Frisco Melt, and many long late nights with big groups of friends making a great time. I noticed the rewards add up quickly too which is nice to offset rising prices. Restaurant was very clean. First they got rid of the waitstaff so you have to order on a kiosk (no cash is accepted). The food is not very good either. I ordered a medium onion ring and literally got 6 rings. Then we ordered two shakes paid extra for extra cherries, whipped cream and the flavor. Which neither of them came with any extra but we were charged for it. It also took 15 minutes to receive the shakes the food came out within a couple of minutes though. There's literally 5 people working and they can't seem to get it together. I would most definitely NOT recommend this place. Oh and they still have the nerve to ask for a tip when the customer is basically doing all the work that a waitress would do. This review is about the New White Truffle Double Steakburger. They hit it out of the park with this. Loaded with mushrooms, delicious caramelized onions and an excellent truffle aioli sauce, plus the Swiss cheese! It costs more than the average burger, but worth it. Service was good. Management was good. The regular standbys were also done well. This was a good visit. Will be back. Hope this burger makes it and stays on the menu. read more

I ordered one chili Mac with extra meat through Grubhub. When I got it, it was burnt beyond edible. I have Covid and can't taste a whole lot but this tasted like crap. I tried calling the store multiple times but apparently they never answer their phone. This was even confirmed by the other Steak 'n Shake in town (they get multiple calls a day from people trying to get ahold of the other store but no one EVER answers the phone) I'm honestly surprised this location is still open. They are never busy so you'd think they'd be able to answer the phone. Can't tell me it's because of short staffing because I just said, I NEVER see people going through the drive thru and I don't even think their lobby is ever open anymore. Been here dozens of times, and my kudos/complaints haven't changed. Recently, I waited longer in this drive-thru than any other S'n'S (upwards of a quarter hour). Other times, service was faster, but the end result is still the same old delicious Steakburger w/ cheese. The biggest problems with this location are the traffic logistics of getting in & out. The entrance is accessible ONLY via southbound Sagamore Parkway traffic, so if you're going north, you have to turn around. If you're coming from the east or west, you'll have to turn north onto Sagamore Parkway.....and still turn around. Exiting isn't any less difficult. Additional minus points for having to maneuver around their next-to-impossible drive-thru lane. You pretty much have to make a sharp, 90* hairpin turn left to get to the pickup window from the ordering lane, and there's hardly any room for error. Even in my midsized sedan, I swung it out a little to the right (sortof like a question mark '?') and I still felt anxious. I can't imagine how someone with a Ford F-150 Superduty would navigate in and around this Steak 'n' Shake. Do they think we all drive Fiats or Smartcars?? read more

The fact that it's 24-7 makes it on the sort list late at night for things open. I find it a bit annoying that they cut there fries so small you need to use a fork. read more

Decided to come here again after a couple months. I'm a student at Purdue and we all used to come here over the summer. Everything was great! No complaints. However now after my last visit I'm disappointed in this location. It seems understaffed. I felt very bad for all the employees working hard so it's definitely not their fault. Service was horrible. Food was decent, a little cold. Their burgers are always very good. Food bumped it up to two stars. This location needs to work on their staffing and service. read more

When we were seated she took our drink order, no shakes just water and cherry coke zero. 10 minutes later we get our drinks and she takes our order. Asked for no bun with for my steak burger and my cold burger and fries came witha bun, not a surprise as she wrote nothing down and she had forgotten until she came back to out table and saw the bun sitting on the table. When I got to the window, the guy said they were out of chili (it's mid May, so can't see that menu item being real popular). I said "ok, I'll just have the cheese fries". I'm not really sure this pricing is any different than before, but go marketing team! They also had a weekend kids special where one kids meal comes free per $8 purchase, which is cool but were tragically out of the toys advertised in giant letters. But at least they have crayons, right? No crayons! Our waitress eventually came through with one yellow crayon and some stickers which was nice of her. At checkout the free kids meal had to be requested off the check, which was done quickly and happily but still felt like another thing added on the endless meal of "I'm sorry". This Steak and Shake has been around for a long time and does show some wear and tear. It's located on one of the busiest intersections in town, and is not easy to get in or out. Dividers on both Sagamore and South St. require some planning, and if you're traveling east on South St., forget it. You're not going to be able to get in the parking lot. In that case, and you really want your Steak and Shake, keep driving east on South St./St. Rd. 26 until you get to the Meijers. There's a newer Steak and Shake there. I was craving a bowl of S&S chili and hit the drive-thru after seeing the lights out in the dining room for the umpteenth time. (Can you name any other restaurant in Greater Lafayette that hasn't re-opened its dining room since COVID began?) Service was slow, but no more so that most drive-thrus these days. I paid my bill and waited. Finally the attendant opened the window. Instead of handing me my food he told me I owed $22. Obviously he mistook me for the next customer in line. I told him I was waiting for my chili. Window closes. Finally the attendant hands me my order and I'm on my way. I get to my next destination and open the container. Instead of a bowl of thick, savory chili I find a pool of orange-colored gruel containing a tiny amount of grey ground beef and a ton of kidney beans. Tasteless, watery, lifeless, shamefully adulterated. I wrote the company to complain but received no response. All I can say is this franchise has gone woefully astray, and without a mid-course correction it's destined to fall into the ash heap of fast food history. Not that big of a deal if you're not chasing around a 1 and 3 year old, but of course, I was. I ordered a garlic burger with pepper jack. From their menu: "If you love buttery garlic bread, this one's for you! Our Double Steakburger™ is topped with melted American cheese and served on a toasty bun with garlic butter spread and a sprinkle of garlic salt on top. Served with fries." It came without the butter and garlic salt. The waitress went back and they doused it with butter and covered it with garlic salt. Way too salty. Was terrible. Also, my burger came with mayo on it for some reason. I hate mayo. Had to wait 5 minutes until the waitress came near us to ask for a new bottom bun to get rid of that mayo covered monstrosity. The kids meals have a trivial amount of fries with them, but the main courses (grilled cheese, hot dog) were actually decent. They also give a free hat and crayons and a pop up paper car to the kids. In summary, if you want fast food, but want to spend an hour eating it and you want to leave a tip afterwards, Steak N Shake is for you! You get much better food at Culver's, 5 Guys, or other decent burger chains. It's pretty cool for kids, but that's the only reason to bother going here. read more

Cross contamination and no hair nests! Long wait times and poor food quality! I was here with some friends of mine, we waited nearly 45 mins. for our food and when we finally got our food, the soup was cold, chili was cold, sandwiches not made how we ordered them. We ordered shakes when we arrived and didn't get them till right before we left over an hour later. I went up to the counter to pay and the manager was on the grill and looked at me repeatedly and refused to cash out my tab I stood there for 10 almost 15 mins before I got helped. There was a guy prepping the food to go out, was touching food ready to eat then touching raw food then touching cooked food again! (Cross contamination at it's best) He was also wearing a white shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his wrists and they were pure black from all the food and dirt that he had stuck them in. And not one person handling food had a hat or hair net on! I got back to the table and told everyone and no one finished their food and we left. One of the guys got sick later on in the night.
