A slow fast food restaurant. I know the inside is much of a diner, but they still have a nice drive-through. Food doesn't come out super fast but it's worth it because I think it is a higher quality. The person on the speaker was a little short and didn't actually tell me to move around and didn't really say anything to me at the window, but they weren't rude, just didn't have a ton of personality. Steak and Shake is so dirty and impersonal. Besides the fact that using a kiosk provides a blank recipe that then prevents you from getting a pop. This is probably my worst experience ever with a Steak n Shake. You have to use a kiosk to make an order. Yes, there is no interaction with a waiter/waitress. The next thing is my extra bacon was missed and when I encountered the only person around she had an attitude. She brought me my bacon, but dropped the cup, but bacon didn't fall on the floor. There is nobody going around to check on you to see how your order is going. It was just a horrible robotic experience. Next, I went to use the men's restroom and it was filthy. This restroom hadn't been cleaned in days. No paper towels to dry your hands. Both soap dispensers were empty and it stunk. Why even have dining room service if you really don't care about it? So I stopped here on a road trip and let me just say this spot was awesome. The food was amazing and tasted pretty good. The fries were decent and the burger melt was flavorful. The service overall was amazing. The environment was pretty chill. The worker at the drive thru window named Miles went above and beyond and deserves a pay raise. The machine wasn't working so I couldn't use Apple Pay and the dude decided to let me go with free food. He said it was on him. I don't know why the rating is low but this place was great. read more

I went through the drive-thru this week since this is all we are allowed to do during the covid-19 crisis. I stopped in to grab my dinner while I was checking on my parents and I was greeted on the speaker by a cheery voice who took my order. This is a business that is close to work so I have come here quite often and never have troubles with them getting the order right. Also on this trip I had a coupon for a free specialty shake which I took advantage of. What I saw when I pulled up to the window that was different than normal was that they had a tip jar there. I was happy to leave a few bucks in there because they are working when a lot of people aren't. My food came out as expected. I ordered a double steak burger with cheese, fries, and my shake. Everything that should be hot was hot and I just love Steak and Shake hamburgers with the lacy crispy edges! I will continue to patronize this business and if you have not tried a burger from this establishment they are a little greasy but definitely worth the visit. read more

Yes you have raised all your prices and the "deals" are no longer a deal. OK The burgers & fries are good. You take away the people who greet your customers and are the first line brand representatives and you force ME to be the order taker and payment processor to improve the system, yet it takes 28 minute for a super complicated order of just one double steak burger & fries? I can't remember the last time I was in a Steak 'n Shake restaurant but it has to have been at least 5 or 6 years ago. So, while driving across the country and looking for a quick lunch option, we decided to take a break from traditional fast food and try a Steak 'n Shack. It's a sort of fast food but with table service in a sit-down environment. The restaurant and restrooms were both very clean; the service was good and I was very pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. We both had the basic steak burger (a double patty with lettuce, tomato, onions, and pickles). Serving a double burger allows them to sook thinner burgers which, in turn, allows them to get a nice crust on the burgers. While I'm not a big fan of really thin fries but thought the really thin fries were cooked to perfection and thought they were really good. I'll be back. read more

It's simply too difficult to use listening skills and reading comprehension for people that work here. You say, "Number seven, cheese and ketchup only." The simplest thing you could possibly say. You get all the way home and you have cheese but not ketchup and there's disgusting pickles with their juices soaked into your burger. I pulled up to the drive thru and after 5 minutes of silence and several attempts to get someone's attention, I pulled around to the window and watched the employees just walk past me. I pulled back around and by then there were two more cars that were lucky enough to have their orders taken. I finally ordered and went to pay with a gift card I got for Christmas but hadn't used. She told me the balance was $0. I showed her the receipt but she said it didn't have anything on it and tried to give it back to me (as if I would need an empty gift card??) I got my food and when I got home I realized that rather than the bowl of chili I ordered and payed almost $6 for they put a tiny little cup of chili in there. Waste of money. They also did not make my burger right (I didn't even make any modifications, so apparently they need to re-learn the menu) and the bun was burnt. This was unacceptible to trade my $20 for this. Still waiting for that beautiful milk shake pictured and in my vision - then it finally arrives as was mixed and did not look anything like the pictures. Flavor was good. Free fries! Which were fine and as expected. Time through check out also good. No upsell was wonderful. But. Person at the window was not wearing a mask when handing us our food and money. When we called to let the manager know she said "well her allergies have been bothering her so she probably took off her mask in a sneezing fit." Um. The dining room is completely closed - no big deal - but we waited 7 minutes in the dining area while the manager was too lazy to walk over and tell us they were only doing drive through orders. We could hear him complaining to other employees about it and after a while another employee walked over and said drive through only. And, acted annoyed that we were even in there. Umm... annoyed with us? You are ONLY doing drive through orders but your door is unlocked and open with no clear signage. Just want to start by saying that I normally actively avoid all Steak N Shakes due to the fact that they are notoriously slow and the employees more often than not, tend to have an attitude of "I hate my job." Stopped in for a drink and pitstop, but ended up having a meal. Sweetie had a royale (without cheese...) which was very good. I had the Santa Fe burger, which was also very good. Monterey jack cheese mixed with pico de gallo, tortilla strips on top, jalapenos... Tasty but not too hot (don't want to make anyone else in the car uncomfortable...) I also had a Heath bar shake- very thick, tasty, and nice even on a cold night. Steak N Shake is reliable if not superb, but this time the food was particularly good and the service was excellent. Always love Steak 'n Shake. The food is always good but the service is always lacking. Just went through drive thru and always feel like i have to double check all the food before I leave. I paid for cheese sauce and when I got home it wasn't in the bag. It isn't worth complaining about because I have to call then let them know or drive all the way back over there and explain you forgot something. Then by the time I get it my food is already cold that I was going to eat it with so there is no real point in trying. Worst drive thru service I've ever received. Waited behind a car for at least three minutes, once we pulled up to the speaker at 9:59, they told us they were closed. My friend and I had been waiting and looking forward to ONE shake that we were gonna split. We asked for her manager's name on duty and she never responded. We repeated ourselves and she said "Have a good night." ...why make yourself look worse by telling us to have a good night, when you refused to make our night better by responding with your manager's name? SERVICE IS AWFUL!!! Stood at the door for 8 minutes before someone finally sat us. Waitress was rude and acted like we were intruding on her flirting with boys time. Asked to have my chili put in the microwave for a minute because it was Luke warm. 10 minutes later I get it back. Looked like it was put in for ten minutes. When I told her this she nodded in agreement with me and walked away. We got our food and never seen her at our table again. Had to take our plate to the counter and ask for a to go container. They tried, but just couldn't get the job done. Seeing most of the tables were dirty I sat at the counter. What I witnessed was sad. A steady stream of complaints. Everything from missing items from the drive through to people waiting forever for their to-go order. My order at the counter took over thirty minutes and came out wrong. While lots of people were upset, all were polite to the staff. Amazing The staff didn't really deserve the courtesy due to their inability to get anything right. However , I do not fault them. A good manager could have directed them to be effective. They were just lost. Sadly the food was horrible. The steak burger was undercooked and the fries were burnt and rock hard.
