I finally decided on the #10 Thai Garlic & Pepper with chicken. The meal started with a bowl of soup, and when my entree arrived it came beautifully plated with rice, a crispy spring roll, a fresh salad, and even an orange slice. The presentation was really cute, and the portion size was very generous. You definitely get a lot of food for the price. I ordered my dish at a medium spice level, and it had just the right amount of heat without being overwhelming. Someone else at our table ordered theirs hot, and after trying a bite, I can say it definitely packs some heat! Next time, I'd probably choose something between medium and hot if that were an option. For dessert, we shared the mango sticky rice, and it was delicious. The mango was perfectly ripe and sweet, and the creamy coconut sticky rice paired with it beautifully. The restaurant itself is charming. When you first walk in it seems small, but there's another dining area that opens up in the back. They also have a cute little bar, and the decor creates a relaxing atmosphere with a beautiful Asian inspired design. Our service was great. There was one server, who I believe was from Thailand, and she was friendly, attentive, and welcoming. It wasn't very busy during our visit, so we never felt rushed. I really enjoyed my meal and I'm happy to have discovered this place. There are so many items on the menu that I'd love to come back and try, and I can definitely see myself returning. I wanted to try their pasta so I ordered a side of fettuccine in herbed butter. It too was lovely. The venue is in the basement of a former Carnegie Library. It's a little dark and has a speakeasy feel. We turned the lamp on our table to a brighter setting to see a bit better. Our server was Chris. I did not care for the breading. My friends had the tenderloin and a French dip sandwich. She took the French dip home for her dog as it was too tough to eat. We had a great wait staff that checked on us and gave us time to catch up with each other Since this is an old library, there is no elevator. Easily an appetizer for 4 or more people (there was only 2 of us so we brought some home). My dining partner is not normally a fries person and she loved these. For entree, my dining partner had today's special which was a shredded chicken sandwich that had a jalapeño cheese sauce and the house chips. She said it was very good and again half the sandwich came home. I had their breaded tenderloin which was very good, with nice breading to meat ratio and was a bit larger than the bun. It came with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles. It came ala carte with no sides. Service was excellent, exceptionally friendly and really took care of us. One of the best waiters I've come across. Inside is a bar/pub like feel. We opted to eat in the air condition enclosed "patio" type area which had a bit more light, but was also noisy today due to the tin lined walls/ceiling and another group that was quite loud. Made it a bit hard to converse. Normally don't think this would be an issue. I don't know, but someone needs to change their name so I'm less confused. Anyway, New York Gourmet Deli, on the east side, is great and located in an unassuming parking lot full of potholes. It looks like a liquor store from the outside, but step inside and you'll see the large deli counter where you order sandwiches, burgers, fries and other foods. The joint is also a convenience store, of sorts, with a wall full of refrigerated beverages, aisles of chips, candy, and lots of Mexican snacks. There's also a little corner of the store with goods like laundry detergent and other necessities. The hustle here is unmatched. The fellows behind the counter were flying all over the kitchen to fulfill the orders. I visited around noon on a weekday, which seemed to be a busy time because there were lots of people from all walks of life here, either waiting to order or waiting for their orders. The guys behind the counter were unflappable and took orders and made sandwiches at a speedy pace. Even if there's a line, you won't wait long for your food.
