Well, it's Steak n Shake. This isn't a 5 star restaurant so definitely don't expect that. Easily the closest to what a burger, fries, and a diabetes causing shake would be like in the 1950s but today. Minus the price of course. That being said, while there are salads and grilled chicken and what not. I think most people don't go to Steak and Shake expecting or planning to eat healthy, which is kind of the point. Burger shops don't exist to improve your health and don't expect them to lol. As for this specific Steak n shake, it's certainly one of the better ones. Definitely could change your perspective if you've only ever been to a bad one. That's with anything tho. People who hate Taco Bell for example hate it (usually) because they've only been to Bad taco bells. I went to a Steak n Shake in the middle of nowhere Georgia once. And I'd give it negative 1 star if I could. It's one of the few times I went to a restaurant. Sat down and within 5 minutes got up and left. But that was there. Once you get past the kiosk, and then the scanning for soda, the food was okay. We both got the classic double steak burgers, with fries. Also, got the cheese sauce on the side which was more than I thought it would be. The only thing I would do differently, is that on mine I got the grilled onions, they tasted a little old and made the burger really greasy. The fries and the ice tea were both fresh. My husband did like his sandwich. The service, was not what I would have expected, went up for a cover for the cheese dip and it seemed to be an imposition to the lady behind the counter. I went through the drive thru yesterday evening and ordered a triple steak burger with cheese. Only ketchup, pickle, grilled onions, cheese, and bacon. Also a small fry. The grilled onions tasted weird and were mushy as hell. I get grilled onions on my burger at steak 'n Shake all the time and this is not normal. They also DIDN'T PUT THE BACON ON MY BURGER BUT THEY SURE FUCKING CHARGED ME FOR IT. The pickles were MIA TOO!! Unacceptable and incompetent staff who can't read simple fucking directions!! Has really gone downhill! You now order on screens - walked in unknowingly and sat down and no one even said a thing! Silence from behind the counter as we realized there were no menus or anything on the tables. Sign on the door that they don't have milkshakes! Tables clearly aren't being wiped down between costumers as some were messy and did not see one employee enter the dining room while we were eating. Appeared to be 3 employees- no interaction or talking at all other than names announced when orders were ready. If you like going and having a human less meal this is the place for you. Let's get a few things out of the way - the parking is ridiculous, the service is slow and inattentive, the dining area is usually unkept and you'll rarely see the manager anywhere other than tending the cash register or standing in back of the kitchen area with their back to you as you wait to pay your check. I agree these are all factual and good reasons to just drive by and find another place to grab a burger and fries. So let me be clear I love their burgers, to me this is the In n Out Burger of the east, these burgers are a few levels above the big 3 national brands any day of the week, but their management plan leaves a lot to be desired and I find that's true at most of their many locations I've eaten at. I love the flavor of the thin patties cooked on that old seasoned greasy grill top just a few inches away from the toasting buns - make mine a triple with cheese all the way - pickles, tomato and thinly sliced onion served up hot and fresh. This was my second "eat in" visit since Steak and Shake Basically fired everyone except the cook, milkshake maker and probably one other person. Walk in, order at a kiosk, pay at the kiosk and find a table that isn't dirty. You sit and wait till they scream your name on a microphone. Then, Get your food, eat it and leave. Too bad. It's time to back that azz up and drop this place down to a deuce. I've never done drive thru here and maybe somehow they are able to render things faster but in terms of sit down/eat in during happy hour all I can say is just, no. Perpetually understaffed which means a long wait to be seated since there is not a dedicated host/hostess which means trying to make eye contact with one of the servers that are usually being pulled in six directions at once. Noteworthy on our most recent visit last month was that when we ordered we were told that there was a good chance that any milkshakes may not come until we were done eating as they were running a 25-30 minute wait. In the end it was nearly a solid 30 as advertised. The food here is the food. Cheap, greasy and somewhat quick. The problems all lie in the service. Too many tables left dirty because they don't have a busser. Too long to get seated since there is no hostess and too long to pay the bill since more often then not any management is MIA and one of the overworked servers is also covering the register in their spare time. I still don't have a S&S within a reasonable distance to me at home which is why we've been to this one a few times as a vacation time novelty but if there is another trip to the Daytona area, I think this one is now going to be on the skip list unless they, unlikely I know, actually hire people or at least better utilize the staff they have. read more

Steak & Shake is an awesome place to grab a quick and cheap lunch. There is a menu where all meals are under $4! How can you beat that? I went with the Chicken Fingers & Fries- which were both good. I also took advantage of the 2 PM to 4 PM happy hour- when all drinks are half price- including their famous milkshakes! I ordered the Chocolate Brownie- YUMMMM The food and atmosphere was great- but the service left ALOT to be desired. My group of 4 was seated quickly. After about 5 minutes the waitress greeted us and took our milkshake order. 10 minutes later we put in our food order- no milk shakes in sight. Our food came pretty quickly- still no shakes. So I asked the waitress- who responded with an attitude. After finishing our food, I asked if the shakes could be put in to go cups, as we still had not received them- the waitress unwillingly accepted my request. I love this place! Every time I come down south I always have to stop. I wasn't too impressed though that they are turning it more into fast food and stopped with the table service. You order on a kiosk now. This wasn't the best location I've been too. The staff wasn't the friendliest. The tables were dirty, both times I went. The first time I went, the milkshake was really good. The second time, it was way too thick, it wouldn't come up the straw. I had to complain and get a new one. SOUR It's not what you think, the drive through is actually great. Even when they are extremely busy and backed up, the wait time is worth it for the fresh hot food I literally get every time. The sour part is referring to literally one sour puss. There is this young girl at the drive through who has a horrible curt rude attitude EVERYTIME I come through drive through. I thought maybe she was just having a bad day and thought nothing of it. Today, even with my smiles and nice attitude she was completely unpleasant. It's such a horrible attitude that I was promoted to call their corporate office or even the store. Instead of taking action, I decided to write this review as a good review because 1 person does not ruin an entire company, but one extremely poor attitude can be very off putting. And there it was, Steak and Shake with a parking lot jammed full of cars. This is always a good sign. My wife and I had to wait about 10 minutes for a table. We were promptly greeted. I had their Prime Steak Burger with a side of chili. My wife had one of their burgers and french fries. She must have enjoyed it, because it disappeared. Both had our meal, and promptly left. The one stars is for the food. The service on the other should receive no stars. It took us an hour to get our food. When the food arrived, my mother in laws grilled cheese was cold and soggy. There was two strands of hair on the bottom of my burger. I discreetly reported it to the waitress she took the food and left me 15 minutes waiting for a new burger combo. The waitress also informed the manager of the "hairy incident" to which the manager never came to me to apologize. To top it off they over charged us and never bothered to give me a discount for the hair I never ordered. I am disgusted with steak and shake. This is the second time I had a bad experience.
