Steak 38 is definitely in a really weird location. There was no valet the night we went so we had to park behind the seedy motel it's located in. Once inside, it is very dark and has an old world style to it. This is where the magic happens. I started with the Smoke Show as my drink. Literally a show as they smoke it tableside. It was delicious. Next was a Caesar salad, also prepared tableside. It was the BEST Caesar salad I've ever had. The flavors were amazing. I had the special which was an espresso crusted filet mignon. I am absolutely, 100% a steak person and when I say this was the best filet I've ever had, I mean it. I have dreamed about that steak since then. My husband had the ribeye which he said was really good. My mom had the mussels in white sauce. She said they were really good. Our dessert was a delicious, HUGE carrot cake. We split it between 3 of us. Our server, Sam, was probably the best waiter we've ever experienced. He had great recommendations, made sure we were getting as great a deal as possible, sang during dinner, AND to my dad for his birthday. This was quite an experience. Steak 38 is attached to a generic motel, the space has no windows, but I guess that's ok because the view wouldn't be great. We had a drink at the bar, most were on the sweet side. Then we sat for dinner. Our waiter, Sam, was the best! We picked the PEI oysters and they were delicious. The table side Caesar salad was perfect. My friend said the crab cakes were the best she's ever had, and she knows her crab cakes. The aged t-bone had a great char and fantastic flavor. Overall, I felt misled by the website, which boasts a "timeless steakhouse with a classic atmosphere", "elevated dishes", "reimagined" cuisine, etc. First impressions matter, and the Cherry Hill location is a disaster. Pulling into the parking lot of a seedy motel that looks like they rent rooms by the hour is shocking. The restaurant does not have its own parking, hence the "free valet" stand squeezed between the restaurant and the motel. Letting go of your car keys so the valet can take it BEHIND the seedy motel would've been too much for me, and I was grateful to not have been the one who drove that night. Inside, the bar is nice and the drinks are good. But, they attempted to seat us in a "dining room" with tables surrounding the bathroom, and the charm of the parking lot we had just come from. Asked for a different table, and the other dining room was better. The food was good, 3-4 stars. The live music, the drinks, and our waiter saved the day. They were wonderful. A fair description of this place IMO is a shady neighborhood hangout, with really great drinks, a decent $70 steak, where people feel free to wear sweatshirts and sneakers on Saturday night, and they would probably let you sing a song or two if you ask. My husband said his steak was good but fattier than he is use to . My filet topped with bleu cheese was not worth $73. The creamed spinach was a toss up. Hubs said it was good and I said meh. ( I think it was baby spinach tossed in a think Alfredo style sauce with parm cheese on top.) Desserts were a nice variety. It was fine overall, the food was definitely the highlight, drinks okay-nothing special. We were seated in the back room (the black curtain room), table for two. It was a Wednesday evening, very busy and although the server was super kind and was working as hard as he possibly could, sadly I have to say that service was lacking. It was prepared correctly, hot & delicious (filet/crab cake/salmon special/mashed potatoes/green beans). Then, this is where it kinda went off the rails (for us). From this point on, we were on our own, no check in from service to confirm that our meal was received to our ordering preference (filet temperature), no follow up to our (now empty) drinks...almost 2 hours into our sitting and still no check in, our dinner plates and glasses had been cleared. On numerous occasions, management was seen stepping in at the room entrance panning the space quickly then exiting. Perhaps, she could have "jumped in" or even approached & "inquired" to the quests as to how their experience was going??? This is known to be a very nice establishment with a huge following, so we simply expected more. Finally, we were approached by our server and we placed a 2nd drink order only to sit and wait so long that my husband got up and walked over to the bar himself, was told that my drink had already been delivered to me....WHAT??? No, not true! It became awkward at this point. The management knew we were not pleased. She approached and was apologetic. Once you overlook the parking lot and the motel that's next door the food is pretty good. The only knock we had was the clams casino as they were very small. The prime rib made up for the clams because it was tender and delicious. Next to Lawrey's in LA, I would put this prime rib as the 2nd best. I would definitely order it again. It is very dimly lit. The ribeye steaks were overcooked. Lobster tails on the seafood fra diablo were rubbery. This should not be happening at all. They forgot part of a meal. Had to ask to have it taken off the bill. They only had regular coffee and tea. No espresso or cappuccino. The gratuity they added automatically amounted to 24%. Steak 38 is a dimly lit steakhouse restaurant to enhance the ambiance. They give you complimentary bread and butter which was good. We got the Fried Calamari, and each got a Rib Eye (16oz and 24 oz; medium rare). The entrees included the standard mash potatoes and string beans but our server said we can replace them for any of the sides except the mac and cheese and the french fries (the french fries only because they ran out. We came after 7:15PM). We opted for sautéed mushrooms and onions in exchange for the string beans. The mashed potatoes and steak were both really good, and I really enjoyed the sautéed onions. The Fried Calamari was good but the breading fell apart a little too easily dipped in the marinara sauce. We also tried the Pineapple Swoon and the Sangria Carafe in White Sweet Passionfruit. The sangria you could choose choose from least sweet, mid-sweet and the sweetest. We opted for mid-sweet. The Pineapple Swoon wasn't that great but the Sangria Carafe was better. The service was great, and our waiter was friendly, nice and attentive. Parking is kind of strange because Steak 38 is connected to a motel so we couldn't figure out where to park at first. You drive up to the sign that says something along the lines of "Complimentary Parking or Valet." They offer complimentary valet parking but we asked if we could park ourselves and they allowed it. The last time I was at Steak 38 I was celebrating my 18th birthday. Tonight, I am currently 24 years old and celebrating my mother's birthday and boy my perception of this place has made a complete 180. At first glance, expectations may be mixed for this steakhouse given that it is attached to a motel, but don't be fooled by its location, folks! In the six years since I've last been at Steak 38, this place has gone through quite an interior makeover that has only elevated the establishment to another level that I appreciate greatly. The vibes that I get from this place is a cross between a speakeasy and an episode of Man Men in the best way possible. Steak 38 is a Southern NJ mainstay for many reasons and their food -- of course -- is no exception for that title. I ordered the Certified Angus Rib Eye Steak and it as cooked to perfection with a simple, yet flavorful layer of seasoning. Accompanied with their "My Way" Old Fashioned, which is Steak 38's own aged bourbon, my meal was complete. When I tried my sister's Rack of Lamb, I was transported to a whole new world, because those flavors were heavenly. Had I had another chance I would have definitely went with the Rack of Lamb. For a larger party of around 11 people, our server -- whose name is slipping me unfortunately -- did a wonderful job. He was equally attentive as he was charming, which rounded out our entire experience perfectly. Kudos to him! My medium was perfect, with a creamy horseradish sauce and the au juś were perfect compliments to the meat. The truffle fries were good. The string beans were fresh, green and tender. Was so stuffed I couldn't eat dessert but the table side service for the bananas foster will ensure I come back to try. Finished the meal with a chocolate martini that was devine. My husband also had the French onion soup. Our entrees were blackened rib eye and lobster ravioli with crab meat. We finished dinner with the peanut butter chocolate pie. I was too excited to eat and therefore only took a photo of my delicious drink. Service was excellent and very friendly. My only complaint, which has nothing to do with the restaurant, was a very loud crowd that we were near, interrupting the more quiet, dim, romantic atmosphere. We Love Steak 38 Cherry Hill. The service, attention and mannerisms of the Host, Staff, waiter and Waitresses are top notch. A old school classy joint with a old Italian ambiance, very quaint. You should dress on the higher end of casual to dressy, this place deserves it. The background music enforces where you are with the sounds of Dino, Francis Albert, Bing and the rest. The menu is amazing. This particular night the had specials consisting of crab cakes (that were awesome!) and Wagyu which I would love to try. My wife had the Steak Diane that was also amazing. We also had the Ceasar Salad that is always prepared at the table along with a shrimp cocktail. Most entrees come with Chefs potatoes and green beans (both very good) or you can order sides Ala cart. For those who may be a little squeamish, Steak 38 is not cheap, it's not the most expensive I've seen either. My husband and I went to Steak 38 on New Years Eve 2022. We have been here numerous times on New Year's Eve and for many special occasions and always left with a five star experience!!! It makes me SO sad that I even have to write this because that is how bad it was this time. Our waiter, Joey, immediately started pushing the specialty cocktail menu down our throats. When my husband and I said we would like cokes, that was not good enough for Joey. He said, the restaurant spent a lot of time curating the cocktail menu and we HAD to order a cocktail cause it was New Years Eve. He kept pushing it. My husband cannot drink. The waiter was disappointed with us. He asked us very disapprovingly if we were ready to order then. We each ordered the surf and turf then at $116 each!!!! We never saw our waiter Joey the rest of the night! We never got refills on our cokes and he never asked us if our food was good. The lobster was horrible. The filet was great. It was such a disappointing experience, especially for the money we paid. We may not have ordered a cocktail from the amazing curated cocktail list but we still paid A LOT of money for the food and did not deserve to be treated like that.
