I had an amazing dinner at Essie's!! My only issue was the lemon drop was wayyyy to sour because the put lemon heads in the... my waitress was kind and patient. She also gave recommendations. The vibe was chill. Wasn't busy at all. Will be returning

The food was delicious! At our table we had the braised short ribs, shrimp and grits and the French toast. I had the braised short ribs and grits and it was filling and very flavorful, served in a bowl and garnished with green onions. Portion size was perfect for me. I ate every bite and was a little stuffed. 4/7 at the table had the shrimp and grits. Comments included Awesome, delicious, tasty, good. The teenage member of our group had the French toast. She described them as exquisite. The atmosphere is pleasant with a jazzy ambiance. It was an all around pleasant experience. Will definitely visit again when we are in Clementon!

Came here to celebrate a friend's birthday. It was my first time, but apparently they come often to enjoy the happy hour. It's a cute restaurant. The food was worth the drive and that Emerald cocktail was very delicious! Should have gotten two. Server was okay, he did disappear for a bit though it wasn't busy so that was odd, but once we asked someone else for him, he was right back at the table. I can see myself there again!

Love this place! The decor and attention to detail is lovely, the food is delicious, and the staff is friendly and awesome! Went for a last minute happy hour and tried a few items: Crab cake (jumbo lump)-was eaten too quickly to take a pic but it was delicious (not on the happy hour menu) Fish tacos-crispy fresh fish seasoned and cooked well, fresh purple and white cabbage with the perfect pop of acid (again eaten before a pic could be taken) Hand cut fries- were seasoned well, crisp on the outside and pillowy on the inside just how I like Bourbon wings-deliciously sticky with a lil kick on the back end Margaritas-were strong and delicious Our server Nicole was attentive and knowledgeable Karaoke started around 7 and rounded out the experience. 10/10 Will definitely be back again and again

Wonderful experience. We stopped in for happy hour on a Friday (5-7p). We were greeted right away and seated. The staff were so nice. We ordered $4 margaritas (they had various flavor options); I enjoyed the mango. To eat I ate the bourbon chicken wings. You get 5 meaty wings and the flavor is tasty. I enjoyed the beef sliders (3). Everything was seasoned and good well. The prices, atmosphere and staff are great. Definitely a new local spot. - street parking - good music - great drinks - flavorful food

This is a fairly new restaurant and indeed a hidden gem! My husband and I met friends for cocktails and dinner last night. The place is new, clean with a hip vibe. The staff is friendly and very accommodating. We even met the owners, a young African American couple whom you will immediately admire after conversing with them. We started in the bar area thinking we'd stick with the happy hour fare. The cocktails were on point! The appetizers were also yummy. I sampled the wings, shrimp and fish taco. All were good and the fish tacos could have been a complete meal. We moved to the main dining area to have a quieter more intimate dinner. My girlfriend and I both ordered the 1/2 chicken with smashed potatoes and kale. The meal was very plentiful and scrumptious. We took home most of it. My husband and another friend had the salmon, sweet potatoes and kale. My husband cleaned his plate so I knew that meal was a hit. We also had their signature hush puppies....whoa...some of the best I've ever tasted. The hush puppies are even complementary with a dinner entrée. Of course, we had their irresistible bread pudding for dessert....delicious! I really, really enjoyed the service, food and vibe. The only drawback is that there is only street parking. A parking lot would be much more convenient for patrons. Yet, Essie's Restaurant and Lounge is that hidden gem that you should definitely should check out! Spend your money here because you won't be disappointed.

Essies is a really nice clean lounge. They have a really good Happy Hour menu, and the food is delicious. There is a bar as well. The restaurant is clean and has a nice warm vibe. Wednesday was Karaoke night, and the DJ and host were fun. There is street parking available l.

The nicely plated chicken cheesesteak egg rolls were really good too, and I loved that they use Liscio's seeded bread for their sandwiches. It's soft and fluffy on the outside with that perfect crunch on the outside of the chicken. Their hot honey sauce had a nice mix of sweet and spicy, and the fries were cooked perfectly. Drinks were made well, and my cosmo looked great and tasted even better. The chicken quesadilla was stuffed with fillings, though I wasn't really into the cream cheese on the side. Prefer sour cream. The salsa it came with was fresh and flavorful. Service was quick and friendly, but the atmosphere felt a little awkward. There wasn't any music playing, just TVs with an NBA on with commercials which made it a bit too quiet & odd. The pool tables seemed to be the main draw since people were playing constantly. Overall, great food and drinks with friendly service. I just wish there was some background music or a livelier vibe inside because the food alone makes it worth coming back for.

You walk in, and it's like the place has been waiting for you--dark wood, a little history on the walls, and that unmistakable smell of something incredible happening in the kitchen. The kind of place where you know, deep down in your soul, that good things are about to happen. And then came the sandwich. This roast pork wasn't just good. It wasn't just great. It was the best roast pork sandwich I have ever had in my life. No exaggeration. First bite--boom--instant revelation. The pork was juicy, packed with deep, rich flavor, and shredded just right, like it had been slow-cooked by someone who truly understands patience. The roll? Oh man, that perfect balance of crusty and soft, holding everything together without stealing the show. Then you get hit with the garlicky, herb-loaded bite of the greens--sautéed just enough to still have a little bite, but soft enough to melt into everything else. And the cheese? Sharp provolone, the kind that makes your taste buds wake up and pay attention. I sat there, sandwich in hand, just nodding to myself like some kind of roast pork prophet. We didn't realize that the restaurant was a part of a country club until we arrived (no where in the reviews did it mention this) but we've done brunch at other country clubs throughout Jersey and it was wonderful. Upon entering the restaurant we saw their only brunch option was for a brunch buffet and from our quick scans of the buffet walking to the hostess stand we all decided we would not be doing brunch (pastries looked like they were from Coscto, warm food looked as though it had been sitting there for a while and the omelettes coming from the omelette station didn't look spectacular so we opted to do their lunch menu instead. Service was SSSLLLLLOOOOOWWWWW! From the very beginning until the very end. It took about 15 minutes before our server arrived to greet us, then another 15 for our first round of cocktails to come out, the about a half an hour for us to be told that they were out of 1 of the 3 appetizers we ordered ... so no lie, after being there a full hour we finally received 2 of the 3 appetizers and were then just able to order a second round of cocktails and our main courses. The cocktails weren't the greatest either. We thought perhaps the first round was our fault because we all tried their "blackberry espresso martini" and we knew it was a risk from the beginning ... so we ordered "safer" cocktails for round 2 and the prosecco based cocktails were even worse than the blackberry espresso martinis smh. I truly don't understand how one messes up prosecco + a splash of limoncello and cranberry (that was what was supposed to be in the cocktail) but they certainly messed it up, to the point where I didn't drink it. Our entrees finally arrived and WOMP WOMP WOMP! Overall every single one was MID at best ... and all I had was French onion soup and a wedge salad .... like how is it possible for those to be BLAH? There was live music in the main dining room consisting of one singer singing Latin music. We were each given a tablet with the menu, which was pretty awesome. It took us a long time to decide what we wanted because we were enthralled by the extensive menu with all of the photos on the tablet. I decided to order a cocktail and my husband got the horchata while my mom got an unsweetened iced tea. They have a full bar with a ton of specialty drinks. My drink arrived with flower petals adorned to the side of the glass. We also received complimentary chips with salsa and salsa verde. As an appetizer we decided to do the taquitos. I love taquitos so I was excited, and the presentation was great. However when we bit into them we noticed they were just pieces of chicken breast rolled in tortillas and fried. No seasoning. No cheese, nothing mixed in. I was surprised. The taquitos I've had in the past are made with shredded chicken and potatoes with cheese. These were lacking flavor and dry. I wanted to love them so much but I just couldn't. For our entrees, I did the chimichanga mixto which was a chicken and beef chimichanga. They were on the smaller side but plenty for one person. The filling was mixed with salsa but again felt bland. They were serviced with a side of rice. My mom got the pina loka, which was grilled shrimp, chicken, and steak with onions and peppers inside a pineapple. Hers was very good. My husband got the La Jeño mix which had chicken shrimp and steak with cheese sauce, rice, and veggies. The flavor of his was pretty good as well. We skipped dessert, but the menu was extensive with all your Mexican favorites plus items like chicken parm. They also have a full breakfast menu. The music was very loud for the small dining area if you wanted to have a conversation, but the singer was doing his thing. We made sure to tip him on our way out. The servers checked on us frequently and service overall was good, I just wish the food wowed us more because I so wanted this to be our new fave.

My wife again chose The Chop House for her birthday dinner celebration and for great reason! We came on her birthday, a Tuesday evening, for drinks and appetizers in the bar area. The gentleman working valet was very respectful and professional and while I can take or leave valet in most cases, he definitely added to the upscale experience of the entire night. Upon seating ourselves at a high-top, both bartenders on shift greeted us with huge smiles and very warm hello's. They are familiar faces to my wife's family and were genuinely happy to see us. Unfortunately, we learned my wife's family's favorite server, Debbie, recently retired but great for her! The bartenders were fabulous themselves. Service, personability, mixology skills were all top-notch. They fit the sophisticated vibe of the restaurant perfectly. We started with drinks of course! A Stoli Elit Martini with a twist, a Dirty Martini, an Apple Butter Old Fashioned, and a Tito's and Club. The drinks came out beautifully. Smooth, chilled. I ordered the Apple Butter Old Fashioned as I was intrigued, but skeptical. While I thought it was good, I'd prefer a regular or Smoked Old Fashioned to the Apple Butter. My wife loved it though. We ordered lots of food to split and each appetizer we picked was as good if not better than the next. The Tuna Nachos fresh and had a tropical, savory flavor with pineapple mixed in. The Kona Tips were tender, full of flavor coming from the Kona crust and sautéed mushrooms/onions, and were served in a skillet full of sauce perfect for soaking up with bread. I actually liked the Kona Tips appetizer more than I liked the Kona Crust I got on my NY Strip I ordered last year (the Strip was great I'd just prefer no Kona crust on the entree). The Flatbread De Jour was a Kona Tip flatbread, which you may call us crazy for ordering two Kona Tip inspired appetizers, but the Kona Tips are just that good. The Oysters we had were small (just how I like them) and were up there with the best Oysters I've had. We finished up with Fried Calamari. They were lightly battered, fried nicely, tender, and served over a bed of different hot peppers (when I say hot, I mean it!). Everything was delicious and there wasn't one appetizer we chose that I wouldn't order again or recommend to others. We did order a few more drinks throughout the night -- another Elit Martini and a Hendrix Martini with the appetizers and then Bailey's on the rocks and Frangelico on the rocks as after dinner, dessert drinks. We ordered a Brownie Sundae for the table for my wife's birthday while she was excused from the table and the bartender brought it out with a lit candle. The bartender also brought out a complementary miniature Crème Brûlée for my wife as she acknowledged The Chop House's Crème Brûlée as one of her favorites earlier in the night when we were talking about the menu. I thought the entire night went as good as you could have hoped. Valet, bar service, food, drinks, desserts, atmosphere. Everything was amazing and most importantly my wife had a great birthday. This is two years in a row we celebrated her birthday at The Chop House and I wouldn't mind seeing this turn into her birthday tradition.

It consisted of 4 cuts of steaks and my favorites were the filet and ribeye. They were seasoned perfectly and grilled medium rare. Our sides were mashed potatoes, CH hash browns, and grilled asparagus. The weakest link was the asparagus which were small in size but still tasty. I will definitely be back based on service, food and value. This is a perfect restaurant for celebrations, dates and casual dining. Definitely a gem of a restaurant. Will be back sooner than later.

The waiter was nice but not attentive, he didn't notice I didn't eat anything and he didn't offer to replace or remove the items from the bill. I would suggest they limit the menu to less items that they can prepare well. If you enjoy drinks and bar food give it a try. Me Ill just stick with Lascalas across the street.
