So I needed to dry clean a formal dress. After calling around and doing some market research, all Stavros' prices are on par with other cleaners in Brookline. I like to support independent businesses instead of chains if prices are fair, so Stavros it was. $12 for long dresses. Minimum credit card charge is $20. Stavros seems to be THE hangout spot for Brookline police. For years I've passed by seeing a group congregate here in the evening chatting away. I didn't catch his name, but the African American gentleman who attended me was nice and accommodating. When I walked in, he was chatting with a police officer who was turning in some clothes. They were talking about how Stavros wasn't that hot inside despite the mid 80's weather, to which the gentleman turned to me and asked how I felt and whether I agreed. It was a nice feeling to be included in their small talk. Having dropped the dress at 4pm, I was wondering the earliest I could pick up the next day. I preferred 7am when they open, but he said 10am. I then asked if it was fine if I picked it up next month as I'd be out of Boston and couldn't make it at 10. Surprisingly, I got the okay to leave it there for 2 weeks. He then had a contemplative look suggesting he could possibly have it ready before 10, but I assured him I was in no rush and next month was fine with me. "Okay, Okay" he replied with a smile. The prices at Stavros are on par and occasionally a little cheaper (for women's work dresses) than other cleaners in the Coolidge Corner area. The best feature is the hours: 7am to 7pm Monday through Saturday. It's great because you can go before or after work. Stavros hasn't always been able to get some deeper stains out of my shirts, but they're still my preferred place in Brookline to go. read more

As cleaners, they are good enough, but as tailors NO WAY! I had 2 new pairs of jeans taken up there, and I paid the extra fee to have them use the original hem. They ruined these expensive jeans! They are soooo poorly sewn, the stitching not only began to come undone almost immediately, but the way they sewed them made it so that the place where they cut into the jeans (to take out length) folds up, exposing the shoddy sewing job, and just looking horrible! whyyyyyy stavro whyyyyy?????????????????????? __________________________________ update 11/6 So, I have used this place for my dry cleaning on several more occasions, and I have had nothing but excellent results.. AND I have good news about the jeans as well! I was talking with one of the guys who works there (months after the jeans incident) and I told him what had happened... but that I was not trying to get them fixed or anything, just letting him know so that it did not happen with another customer... I was so totally impressed with him reaction! He told me to come back with the jeans and they would fix them, regardless of how long it had been, and he apologized profusely! Dropped off a pair of pants that needed a quick mend on one of the hems. The bottom of the left leg had come undone and was in danger of scraping on the ground as I walked. Figured a few bucks now will save me from buying a new pair of pants in the near future. I will admit, I was very apprehensive after explaining the issue with the pants to the tailor (woman, maybe Russian descent?). Not sure if my instructions were clearly delivered or received. I also opted for them to be dry cleaned after the alteration. I stopped by a couple of days later, and they were as good as new. I guess sometimes you need to have a little faith and just expect that your request/instructions were received in a useful way. read more

A true tribute to customer service the old community way. I first went to Stavros because it was close and I had to wear suits to work every day which can create quite the dry cleaning pile. It is no longer the closest cleaner to me, but it is the only one I will take my clothes to. From my first visit to the last time I passed by the cleaner the main man Tommy has been like a friend. He's always super friendly and open to a sports chat and he'll even learn your name if you stop by a few times. When was the last time a dry cleaner learned your name? Tommy makes this place great and your clothes will of course be cleaned well for a good price! read more

Unfortunately, the owners of the business don't change the cleaning chemicals often enough. On multiple occasions, my clothes have come back stinking of someone else's stale cologne and BO. Once it was so bad, they couldn't get the odor out after two additional cleanings! I like to support local businesses, and Stavros is a five-minute walk from my home, but I also expect my clothes to come back clean and fresh. read more

I paid $35 to clean a skirt. It looked clean but it wasn't fully ironed and they used safety pins to pin my linen skirt onto their hangers so now my poor skirt has 4 holes from the pins. You'd think they'd know better than to do that! read more

Not only that they are expensive,the owner is very rude.I brought back a down cover which did not look or smelled clean after I had paid 40$,the owner blamed me calling him a liar for not doing the job and started to yell at me and called me sun of a bitch and other lovely names....great experience and service, lucky that he did not start to beat me... read more

I have had good experience until the other day. 4 out of 5 of my sweaters/blouses came back to me with the same stains. They honestly looked like they were just pressed and not cleaned at all. One ivory blouse looked dirtier than when I brought it in to them. I will take the trek to Quincy back to my old dry cleaners. Pleasant and kind people, fair price ($20,- for woolen goat), but most of all I am very happy with the results. They were able to remove all the stains, which I hadn't expect in advance because the coat was quite dirty. Clearly they had done more than a simple chemical washing. read more

I have to update my previous review here for tailoring and tell you guys that you should not take complex tailoring to this place. After my great pants experience I brought in this cute dress to get it taken in and made smaller. The lady measured me and pinned me in and everything. However, when I went to pick up the dress it was ALL WRONG. It wasn't the right size, the straps weren't taken in, I had to eventually take the tailoring to an expert tailor out in Newton to get it redone and even she couldn't fix some of the mistakes - there is a weird kink in the side of the ruching that just can't be undone. read more

My neighborhood dry cleaner - and there are a lot to choose from! I go to Stavros because Tommy is always so friendly and attentive. Your clothes will be done in two days at the most. My only complaint is that when Tommy is not working, the attendant working for him is not friendly at all. Of course, this just makes me appreciate him even more! read more

I brought in my favorite trench coat to be dry cleaned. Upon picking it up, an attendant told me that the buttons had melted off and the coat was ruined; I needed to call the owner to discuss what to do. I called every day for 4 days and he was never there. Finally I stopped in. He said there was nothing he could do, and offered me a $40 refund. This was a $150+ trench coat that I absolutely loved. He was not apologetic, nor would he negotiate. I am furious and disappointed, and will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

not sure why my clothes smell like cigarette smoke and aren't clean! I will not be going back to this overpriced place that doesn't even clean clothes. Oh and my button was broken, and the sweaters weren't hung properly on the hangers. I just called to complain and the person on the phone told me to call back tomorrow....
