I used their weaving services. I had two pairs of knit pants and an a sweater that had been attacked by silver fish. There were holes all over the garments. The weaving work was excellent, even in areas where there were threads in multiple colors. I would definitely return for future weaving and tailoring needs. read more

I don't recommend going here (see my review for Washington Dry Cleaners, which is much better). The dry cleaning prices at Fabriclene were reasonable ($10 per wool sweater, $8 for a wool scarf). But a few things were wrong: - My clothes were promised on a Wednesday, so I went on Wednesday. Then they said Saturday, so I had to go back a second time, which frustrated me. They didn't acknowledge nor provide a discount for this inconvenience. - They charged $15 to sew closed a moth hole in a sweater, PER HOLE. This was not clear to me - I thought it was $15 in total for all holes. - It was difficult to communicate that I had multiple moth holes that needed fixing (the tailor wasn't there), so they only fixed one hole. Considering the price for fixing per hole, I'm glad they didn't fix more. At least the single fixed hole looked good. - The tailor is available only on Tuesdays and Saturdays, with limited hours. - It's very small inside, so I assume they don't do dry cleaning on premises. - The person at the front desk was watching something on his phone during the transactions, which also made communication difficult. No greeting. Don't go here. Go around the corner to Washington Dry Cleaners instead. read more

I've gone here a few times and brought a few pieces with me every visit - usually suits/dinner jackets. They get the job done. Nothing really to stand out here. The reason why I did not give 3 stars is because I dropped off a dinner jacket for dry clean before I left for vacation. The person at the counter said that they would be closed in a few days for approximately two weeks and that the earliest I would be able to pick it up was on the Saturday of the week they would re-open. Since I was going on vacation myself, I didn't really care, so I told them it was just fine. After a relaxing vacation that was way too short (aren't they all?) I went over to Fabriclene on that Saturday to pick up my jacket. I handed over my slip and they disappeared in the back for about five minutes. Afterwards, they returned to the front and said that it was not ready and it would be ready in another two days. After my first few visits and, with a lengthy time between visits, I entered Fabriclene and was greeted by my name! They had me at, "hello!" Customer service is always pleasant and they are most responsive to requests. I took two high end skirts, wardrobe staples, to be altered and was thrilled to see the beautiful workman-ship, on both pieces. Wonderfully skilled tailoring!! Fabriclene, in Washington Square, Brookline, is old world craftsman-ship! Dry cleaning comes back probably hung, folded, etc. I've not experienced damaged or missing items and recommend giving them a try, if you live in the Aspinwall Hill Neighborhood and worth the trip if you do not. read more

I took 14 work dress shirts to get them laundered. I'm simple, no starch just laundered and pressed. This is my first time using this cleaner and more than likely be my last. As of now two of the shirts are ruined with bleach. I haven't checked the others as I usually only look at them when I'm putting them on the morning. I'll go back to the store to give them an opportunity to rectify the situation. As of now I am beyond disappointed. I will update this review if necessary. I was in and out after being pinned in 5 minutes and when I went to pick it up it fit like a dream! I was looking for a dry cleaner closer to my apartment and thought I'd give Fabriclene a shot. Boy, was I wrong. The proprietor and his wife are both incredibly rude. They acted like they were doing me a huge favor when I dropped off my husband's suit on a Tuesday to be cleaned for a wedding that I needed to pick up by Friday (the wedding was on Saturday morning). They do not do the cleaning in-house. The least Fabriclene could do is provide good customer service. When I picked up the suit, yes, it was ready and clean. For doing their job, they get 2 stars. For making me wait while the wife discussed her vacation home in Mexico with another customer, after the other customer was clearly long done with whatever business she came in for, I will never be back. read more

Pros: Totally acceptable dry cleaning and tailoring. They will not ruin your Sunday best, so no need to stress about how your clothes will turn out, which is a big plus. Cons: This is not a warm and fuzzy establishment, and the hours are not consistent - sometimes they'll go on vacation without notice, holding your finest hostage in the store until they return. The tailor/seamstress is not always in. Final Thoughts: I love the location. The prices are fine. The turn-around time is maybe a week for alterations. This place provided wonderful service for me and my family for a recent wedding. My husband and I decided on rather short notice to stick with our original wedding date, meaning I didn't have a ton of time to do wedding dress alterations. Faina was so accommodating and did a spectacular job with the dress! She made very complicated alterations (including shortening a dress with intricate lace at the hem) and did it all in just a few weeks. I also went several times to check in on the dress for follow up fittings, and she really listened carefully and was very responsive to my thoughts and reactions and continued to tweak the fit. I was thrilled with the results!! On top of that, she did quick alterations for my sister's dress and my brother's suit. A truly great experience! Good shop. They have shoes of varying heights to put on if you're hemming your pants, which is key to getting the length right. They hemmed my expensive new jeans without losing the fashionable fringe on the bottom. Do not go here to get your bridesmaid dress altered! I should have known to avoid this place when I saw the signs suggesting that alterations are a "one time deal" (i.e. if it doesn't fit after she alters it, you have to pay again to have her fix her mistakes). I took my dress here because it was about 2 sizes too big. The woman was very rude (which I wouldn't mind if she was good at her job). She took the dress in and made it so tight that I could barely breathe! For $48 I would assume that she might offer to fix her alterations so that the dress would fit comfortably, but she did not. There was no way I was going to pay this woman again, so I took my dress elsewhere to get it fixed. When i got to the second tailor, the woman looked inside the dress and told me that there was no material left to take it back out! A good seamstress would have left some material inside the lining of the dress so that it could be taken back out if necessary. Also, the inside of the dress looks AWFUL where she re-sewed the lining. I have no clue why this place has been given so many good reviews. When she gave me back the dress it was wrinkled (she blamed it on the plastic garment bag). I will never go back. read more

I was in need of my own measurements and without a tape measure of my own and lacking knowledge of how to do it correctly myself I popped in here on a whim (after popping into the cleaning portal on commonwealth - I was turned away because they do not do that.... but the sign said tailor?) I was on my way to another tailor in Coolidge Corner (thanks to an extensive search on yelp) but I saw this spot on the way and figured it was worth a shot. I have had numerous pairs of pants hemmed and taken in, a dress altered and a winter coat fixed, all came out flawless. The price is fair, even a little lower than typical tailors. The turnaround time is a week, which is very reasonable. Even after I moved out of Washington Square, I still travel a bit to take my clothes here to be altered. I'm convinced they are the best tailor in town. Very good craftsmanship and always ready when they say they will be. They've turned a dress into a shirt for me, have altered numerous bridesmaid dresses to perfection and lengthened countless pairs of pants and sleeves (I'm nearly 6' tall). Their dry cleaning is also great but they really shine in the tailoring dept. And it bears mentioning that this is a 100% family-run business and they are very sweet. read more

Overpriced. I paid nearly $60 to have a bridesmaid dress hemmed, and another $35 to have the back taken in... it cost nearly as much as the dress itself. They won't accept credit cards for purchases under $15, and don't seem to budge on that even if your total rings up to $14.98. Even for loyal customers who have already spent a ton at their store. I had been going here faithfully for years but I think at $7 a sweater for dry cleaning I can do much better. read more

3/5/11 I live in Brighton, where there are several other cleaners that offer alterations, but after trying 2 and not being very happy with the results, I lucked out when a friend recommended Fabriclene, a bit of a drive when there are others closer to home, but well worth it. Cleaning nowadays is usually of standard quality everywhere. It is the alterations that are outstanding here. I've had everything from a two-piece, satin-lined, taffeta pants suit altered for a wedding to a white silk lining custom-made for a pair of white linen summer slacks, to shortened sleeves for a leather jacket and even to a pair of sweat pants taken in. Each and every time I walk out with a garment that fits me as though it were made for me. That is why, when I buy something that is not quite a perfect fit, but is exactly what I have been looking for, I never hesitate to purchase it, as I know it will be a perfect fit when I have it altered so professionally at Fabriclene. First off, let me say that I have been coming here for many years. I also like to ask a lot of questions, so I feel that I am qualified enough to review as well as dispute some of the comments made by other yelpers. It really angers me when people review a place or make comments about a business without really knowing what they are talking about. First of all, the dry cleaning and alterations ARE done on the premises, they have a dang sign on the table saying so and you can hear them doing it during the day! Yes, they generally ask for about 3-4 days for dry cleaning and 1 week for alterations because this is standard for a dry cleaners and they have a lot of work from different customers. BUT if you need your stuff sooner, even one day service, 99% of the time they will have it done for you same day. Now, I have three passions in life: sushi, chocolate and clothes. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my clothes and take great care of them. I am also small so I always need them taken in or shortened. I trust this place COMPLETELY with everything I own. I have no idea what people are talking about when they say the owners are rude-they are very nice, very very hardworking people who know exactly what they are doing. They are amazing at getting stains out and at alterations. The seamstress can do ANYTHING- take in and shorten anything from pants to jackets to wedding gowns. If you need your stuff the next day, you can usually have it. These reviews about her making these ridiculous mistakes, they just do not make any sense at all. She's too much of a professional, too good at her job to make a mistake as ridiculous as that. I don't believe any of it. This is the place you want to trust with your clothes! read more

I brought my very simple brand now all ironed wedding dress for a simple alteration. It was well done, but they caught the bottom of the dress in the protective plastic bag and made a nod. when I opened it still in the store to try it on, i told them the dress got all wrinkled, and the lady argued that I had brought it like that. I know it's not the case since the plastic was tapped at the bottom when I brought it. she then proceeded to charge me 10 bucks on top of the alteration which was not cheap to start with for ironing the dress. 3 days before the wedding I did not to fight since she still had my dress but I call that stealing. read more

I had been going here for some time, and thought their cleaning and their tailoring was just fine (not great, but fine). The woman is very nice, the man, not so much. But recently they made 2 mistakes (one in when something was to be returned, one in something to be repaired that they forgot). I didn't mind the mistakes so much as their attitude. They tried to make it my fault (I came at the wrong time--no, I didn't; I didn't tell them--yes, I did). They had a million excuses and not one "i'm sorry." That would have changed everything. I admit I only went there once and never had anything dry cleaned there so the review is only for their alteration services. I needed to shorten a floor-length beach dress. It is made from a stretch cotton blend (the one that feels like very nice and soft to the touch) and had a rather wide hem to weight down the dress. Essentially I needed it shortened by exactly the length of the hem but still wanted to keep the hem wide because this style of the dress wouldn't look nice with a thin hem. I went to at least 3 different tailors (Copley, downtown and Newbury st.) and all of them told me that "due to the type of the fabric and the type of stitching it requires" the only way they can made the hem wide is to cut the existing one off, shorten the dress and reattach it. That whole procedure would cost me nearly as much as the dress did. As a last ditch effort I went to Fabriclene to get a fourth opinion, and I am really glad I did. The woman (I think she is the owner) looked at the dress, listened to what I wanted and said "no problem", just like that! When I told her that 3 tailors told me that simply shortening the dress and giving it a wide hem cannot be done she shrugged and said "well, I am pretty sure I can do it without any problem". Sure enough, a couple of days later my dress was ready to pick up and it was perfect :D. From now on, Fabriclene is my new destination for all alterations read more

I have always recieved a friendly smile and fast service at Fabriclene. 0 stars. If I could give this negative stars I would. I brought 11 mens shirts to be laundered; trying out a local business. 9 shirts came back dirty, stained and totally unwearable. I pointed this out to the owner and showed her each of the unacceptable shirts. I suspect the iron or press was filty as dirt was transferred and ironed in to 8 of the pockets. She then told me that it was my fault for bringing in dirty shirts! Yes...the cleaner told me that I should not expect a dry cleaner to return clean shirts to me (told is not really true; she screamed at me). NEVER ever bring your clothes here unless you want to pay to get them dirty. I have never written a Yelp review before but was motivated by this terrible terrible experience. read more

I had been quoted a price for cleaning & pressing a full size duvet at a nearby dry cleaner. The price seemed high & I mentioned it to a neighbor who referred me to Fabriclene. They did an excellent job at a lower cost. At that same "other" dry cleaner, I was told that the elastic on the waistband of a particular pair of pants could not be extended. Not a problem for Fabriclene. This young Russian couple (who probably were rocket scientists back there) are personable, bright and competent at cleaning, laundering, pressing and, especially, tailoring. Alteration turn around is about a week and reasonably priced- I have never needed her to re-do or adjust. In contrast to some of the other reviewers, I have found the team pleasant and patient, even on a busy Saturday. Dropped off curtains to be cleaned because of pollen on them. They did not state at drop off that this was a difficult job and when I returned to pick them up they were not cleaned, just ironed. I was charged $60 for no cleaning and the woman did not care that the job was not done to satisfaction. It was 2 p.m. and I needed to get my suit dry-cleaned by the end of the day because I had a 6 a.m. flight the next morning and after going to two other dry cleaners they told me that they could do it for me by the end of the day so I was happy with that until the next day when I was in another state and went to put my suit on and notice that there was a big hole along the seam on the butt. Good thing I brought a pair of khakis with me even though I was supposed to wear a suit. So I was very happy that they got a suit dry-cleaned for me and the little bit of time that they had but very disappointed that they ripped my pants and didn't fix them or even say anything about it read more
