Let's get one thing straight right out of the gates here: as the person sitting in the chair, it is not my responsibility to monitor every move a stylist makes with hawk-like precision, correcting each potential misstep, nor is it incumbent upon me to know enough about cutting hair to know whether a stylist is even making a mistake in the first place. I came in to Static with about 10" of hair (chin-length). I do not dress the part of the yuppie soccer dad. It cannot be assumed from just looking at me that I would want to have the suburban special haircut. I brought pictures. Yes, pictures with an S, meaning more than one, showing multiple angles of the haircut I wanted. The haircut I wanted was not particularly complicated, but it was particularly awesome. I described, in detail, exactly what features of that haircut I liked the most, especially the length of it. The haircut I was after was much shorter than what I had, but it still had some body on the top and probably topped out around 4" long. After going through the motions of explaining what I liked, discussing the pictures and so on, I was taken back to be shampooed. This part of the experience was completely unremarkable, though also completely fine. About 5 minutes later, I was taken back to my stylist, who discussed with me, again, what I wanted and then set to work. As I watched her cut, I had no idea what was, specifically, going on with my hair. It was getting shorter, and it was taking on a generic sort of short-hair shape. A few minutes of cutting went by, and finally, I spoke up, and I reminded her, "I don't want it terribly short. Please don't go any shorter." She nodded, said "OK" and carried on with the cut. When she neared the end, I could tell that she had cut it into a different shape than I asked for and had cut it MUCH shorter than I wanted. At this point, I reminded her again about the length and told her it was too short as is, so she should absolutely not take ANY more length of at all. And then, she pulled out some sort of razor-comb device, which she said was to "texture" and "feather" my hair and definitely not make it shorter. Oddly enough, the razor-comb also had the distinct effect of "shortening" my hair. Finally, when she asked me if it was ok, I said something like, "It's not what I asked for but it's fine. Thanks." And I stood up and left for the counter after a brief inspection of the cut. I paid and left. Upon getting home, I had the opportunity to inspect my haircut again, and after a closer look, I absolutely hate it. Static offers a "10-day satisfaction guarantee," but I don't think I'll be taking them up on it, as unless they have some super secret tech I'm unaware of, they can't make my hair longer so that it looks like the cut I asked for. What I have is, I suppose, a technically proficient haircut. It appears to have been cut skillfully and with a steady hand, but it is NOT the haircut I wanted. It is the same boring haircut that every other dude in the world has and it blows. I will not be returning to Static for any future services. Their prices are steep, the location isn't particularly convenient and the stylist I had couldn't even reproduce the LENGTH of a haircut I had pictures of, much less the style. She kept making comments like, "Just wait, in a month you'll be back in here wanting to go shorter." Guess what, lady, if I wanted a buzz cut, I'd have saved myself $55 and done it at home. Hair really is one of those things that can make you extraordinarily happy or positively furious. Avoid this place and steer clear of one of those, "Why did I cut my hair?!" moments. read more

I went in today because I had an appointment with Nicole, and I've never had a better haircut in my life! The whole staff makes you feel like a rockstar, and they even offer you drinks, hershey kiss chocolates, and a seat in the awesome waiting area. It has been literally years since my last haircut and I was quite nervous at the thought of it when the time came. I have been going to the same places for haircuts for years and they do a fine job but I wanted a style that was new to me and had a modern feel. So I did what any person of my generation would and scoured the internet. It didn't take much effort to find Static Hair Salon, which is usually a good sign. In fact, they are one of the first results when searching "Best Men's Haircut in Westchester". After digging deeper I found many sources corroborating this assertion and decided to pull the trigger. Being a first time client when I called I needed a recommendation for a stylist. The receptionist said Sonia was the one for me and he couldn't have been more right. She was knowledgeable, kind and gave me the exact cut I was looking for. I showed her a few pictures, we talked it out and she went right to work. She even went through the trouble of teaching me how to style my hair post cut. I'll definitely use her again. Krystal, the woman who did the shampooing was also very sweet, professional and accommodating. Some other perks: I liked the look of the place, the waiting area was very nice and comfortable, they offered me a drink after I came in, they offer a 10 day warranty so if you don't like your cut they'll fix it for free and There was barely any wait time before I was in a chair consulting with my stylist. I also had to change my appointment last minute to a later time and they were extremely accommodating. There is really only one thing I saw as a potential draw back and that was the price. The $65 price tag is a tad steep for a men's cut. Maybe it was because I had a lot of hair to begin with but I wouldn't be thrilled spending that on a near monthly basis. I definitely didn't mind this time because it was a big cut. I was donating nearly 12" of hair and then wanted a short cut afterwards. I certainly got what I paid for, a beautiful cut in an upscale joint but when it's all said and done, it is a men's haircut. They did offer me a 10% discount on my next cut and another for any references I shoot their way, which was nice. The price won't necessarily keep me from coming back but it will probably influence how often I go for a trim. Overall an excellent experience and I couldn't be happier with the new look. "Where do I begin to tell a story of how great a love can be..."? Yes, as corny as it may sound, my review of Static is a true "Love Story", and it begins with Debbie, one of its founders and my hair stylist! (For you youngsters who wouldn't recognize it, my quotation is from the theme song to an old, classic movie called "Love Story".) I have been going to Static since it opened. I followed Debbie there after she left the Jose Eber salon in White Plains. I would have followed her anywhere!! Debbie is an artist. But, as gifted as she is as a stylist, she is also one of the dearest persons I have come to know. She is humble, gracias, unpretentious and very special. I have very short hair. It must be cut often and it must be cut perfectly. In the 13 plus years I have been going to Debbie, she has never disappointed me! I am an A+ personality and have very rigid requirements about my hair. I appreciate that Debbie cuts it with extreme confidence, and yet she also makes me feel very much at home and especially comfortable in her chair, every time!! The same can be said for the entire staff at Static (especially Duane), who always welcome me warmly whenever I call or enter the salon. And the glass of champagne upon entry is a nice added touch!! My love story continues with Janie, my colorist at Static. I have complicated hair for color as I have very black hair and a natural grey streak in the front that has never been touched. Janie maintains it beautifully & carefully. I also must color my hair often because I cut it so frequently, and yet the quality & texture of my hair has never been compromised. Like Debbie, Janie is confident in her technique, but she never has an attitude and always makes me feel relaxed and at ease in her chair. When Janie is unavailable, I have no hesitation in having my hair colored by Ashley. I watched her grow from assistant to full-fledged colorist, and she has become one of Static's finest!! I have been going to Static for the last 7-8 years. It is nothing but 5 stars! Their space is gorgeous & the staff is nothing but amazing. Each one friendlier than the next. I specifically have been going to Alyssa for color & Philip for cut. As a static customer you know they are called the dynamic duo. This is the perfect description of these two professionals. You know your in good hands with Alyssa & Phil ! Not only has Alyssa made my black BOXED hair color into the perfect blonde tone for my complexion we also had fun with different hair colors the whole way through. She was the first to introduce me to the "ombre", then the "balayage" BEFORE anyone even knew how or what the "balayage" was. Not only was my hair ombred and blayaged but my hair extensions were too. Any color I was or wanted she magically turned my hair extensions into the same EXACT color as the color of my own hair. Today was my first visit to Static as I've been searching for a new salon and stylist for the last couple of months after having had a traumatic experience at my old salon. Initially, I had an email conversation with Duane, who was very kind and helpful, about my hair and scheduling an appointment. He booked me an appointment with Philip. When I arrived today, Duane greeted me and informed Philip of my arrival. When I met Philip, I instantly felt at ease. He was very friendly and kind, and made me feel comfortable. He actually sat down with me to discuss my hair and what I wanted, which I hadn't really experienced before with previous stylists. He asked questions and listened to what I had to say. It was refreshing to have a stylist actually listen to what I wanted, rather than pushing me to do something I didn't. He then handed me off to the girl who would be washing my hair, unfortunately I can't remember her name, she was fantastic and actually held a conversation with me as she was washing my hair, which was great. When I went back to Philip, he started working on the cut, keeping great conversation with me but also remaining focused on the task at hand, all while checking to see if I was happy with what he was doing to my hair. All in all, he gave my dull, lifeless hair new vitality with a fabulous cut and amazing blow dry. He also brought Alyssa over to me to discuss my want to eventually get an ombré done in the near future. After listening to me explain my past experience with bleaching at my old salon, Alyssa thoroughly explained the process she would take to achieve what I wanted. I love this Salon. Everyone there is talented, professional, caring and VERY accommodating. Alyssa is a genius at color. Each time she colors my hair (and I am at least 75% gray) it looks better and better. This is 3 years folks! She makes my color look better than natural and the health and vibrancy of my hair is as good as when i was in my 20's and 30's (now 55). She color corrected my daughter after a major bleaching disaster that left her hair deep fried and a weird pink color. She is also very warm and kind and makes me feel beautiful Phillip is a doll and equally talented. I can't count he times that I had a hair "emergency" and he has accommodated me by staying late, etc. He really listens and is very creative. I went through a bout of hair loss, due to age, and he has rendered it unnoticeable-he's really like a magician. He is extremely talented, professional and conscientious about his work. He has a way of making me feel very beautiful. He also cracks me up. For instance, I was complaining about my hair and he gave me a keratin treatment which he described as botox for hair----and it is!!! I also recommend Marina very highly. She is also talented and understands women with thin hair and has mastered how to make it appear much thicker than it is. Everyone at this salon is a pleasure to work with. The manager, Dwayne, has even paid my meter through his app when I left my phone at work. Astrid is also at the front desk and she is a consummate professional. I've been going to Static since 2007. What can I say about them that someone hasen't already said? They are simply fabulous. I have had my color done several times, from going more blonde with the talented Antoinette, to going back to a rich brunette with Janie. They nail it everytime and are extremely knowlegeable about what tones and color look best suited to each individual and their skin tone. Janie did my color before my wedding, and I just got my pictures back from the photographer....and my hair color looked simply stunning and rich in every light!! I would not have trusted my hair to any other salon for one my most important days of my life! Their stylists again are very talented. I've never had one bad haircut there......ever. They give me that beautiful sexy long layered "Victoria's Secret" hair that I request and love so much. Every time I walk in there, I am greeted by their never ending friendly staff that will bend over backwards to make me happy. You feel special and like a celebrity with their treatment...because they really do care about you and how your experience is. This is a salon that stands out far from all the rest of your typical salons. I don't see how anyone can not be happy with the many talented colorists and stylists there. I have been a Static client for almost 4 years and it is hard to imagine a time when I went anywhere else! Let me start off by saying that the service at all levels is outstanding. Starting with the reception staff who always goes the extra mile and greets you with a genuine smile, to the assistants who are there every step of the way, the colorists and stylists who are friendly, professional and deliver fantastic results, and ownership who takes the time to let you know how much they appreciate your business, Static has it all down pat! The environment is very hip and cool but completely unpretentious. Having been a former client at some high-profile salons in NYC that did have that pretentious vibe, I really appreciate that Static does not! While I could not be more thrilled with all that I mentioned above, the most important thing that keeps me coming back is how great my hair looks! I see Kelly for color and she nails it every time. Her technique is flawless and you can tell she loves what she does. I have also seen Janie and Antoinetta as well when there were scheduling conflicts, and they are both wonderful. ALYSSA, the color expert, IS A MAGICAL SORCERESS. I came into Static with the worst highlight job ever (look at photos, and find the before and after one). It was orange, it was breaking, it was everything that highlights are not supposed to be. Thankfully, God blessed me with Alyssa, who was assigned to color correct me. She was completely appalled by what I came into the salon with, but quickly reaffirmed that it would be okay. She was so comforting throughout the whole process, and I really have never felt like I was in better hands. If you want amazing color, go to Alyssa. She is so meticulous with her work, it's unbelievable. She literally dyed/highlighted/oliplexed/deep conditioned each strand of my hair individually. I had maybe 300 pieces of saran wrap on my head because of how careful she wanted to be with each color. Five hours later, I have never loved my hair so much. I was really worried that I would have to throw a box dye black on my hair to cover the terrible work of the hair salon before, but Alyssa took care of me so well. I seriously recommend this salon, which is so professional from start to finish, but even more so, I recommend Alyssa to do all your hair coloring. Even after we were done with our appointment, so many of the other stylists came around saying they loved the color and that Alyssa did a phenomenal job. If I could, I'd give this review 10 stars. I found Static from some amazing reviews before finally making an appointment. My first experience wasn't a pleasant one as I felt the stylist I had didn't understand my hair and had a difficult time working with it. After sorting that out the staff introduced me to Alyssa who is known for doing amazing color. She changed my life! She was honest with me about my hair and because it was damaged I would need to wait until the perm grew out. After patiently waiting (which I asked her every time I went in) it was well worth it. She blended tones and it looks amazing! Then she introduced me to Philip who always makes me feel I'm worth a million dollars when I leave his chair. The minute he did a Brazilian blowout in my hair I was hooked for life. Now I have the Dream Team at Static and I will never go to another salon again. I'm so thankful I found them in Westchester County and didn't have to travel into the city. You go in looking like a hot mess and you leave feeling on top of the world. And I think one of the things that makes me feel so comfortable is, they taught me how to manage and style my hair at home with the right products. The stuff I can do now amazes me lol. I have never written a review about anything. Not a hotel, not a salon. I was very nervous about going to Static because I have usually gone to salons in NYC. And the fact I found them off the internet didn't ease my nerves. But it was the best decision I made. From the time I called, the person on the phone asked me all about the type of hair I had, what I was looking for, and hooked me up with Antoinette and Debbie I was glad I had chosen Static. The person behind the reception desk made me feel right at ease and was not snotty or obnoxious like some NYC salons. Antoinette who did my color is absolutely amazing. She took the time to talk to me about what I wanted, what she thought I should do, what may or may not look good, and actually engaged me in dialogue about my color. She was fabulous. She did all my color. NOT HER ASSISTANT. She gave me pointers about how to keep the red out of my hair and was absolutely wonderful. Debbie, who cut my hair was also spectacular. She came over and engaged me in what I wanted, what would look good, what she thought I should do. During the cut her demeanor was so calming and lovely. I couldn't imagine going elsewhere. I *love* Static! I moved to White Plains a couple of years ago from Philly where I had a salon to which I was very loyal for years. Uprooting meant starting the search all over again. It took me 1.5 years and three salons later to recently find Janie and Carole at Static. First things first, the salon itself is beautiful - lots of room with the large open loft feel of a fancy photo shoot. It looks expensive because it is - definitely Manhattan prices but for me it has become worth it. Janie is my colorist. I came to her bearing the gift of a brassy bird's nest hot mess of hair. She transformed it without much fuss by deepening the base color and adding the right kinds of highlights to brighten up my features. Carole followed that up with a cut that was very va-va voom - elegant, sexy, and easy to manage. The combo of those two has been a hair and sanity saver (even though the wallet takes a pretty tough hit). If you can afford it, I honestly cannot recommend them and Static salon enough. I've been to the salon twice so far but my experience both times has been nothing short of phenomenal. I feel like a completely clueless model in a Pantene commercial swinging my hair around on the street after I leave Static. Ashley did a wonderful job on my naturally mousy brown hair (damn those Dutch roots!). I know I've found a good colorist when my husband gives it a thumbs up when I get home. She is very pleasant and when I got home, I could really see the level of detail she does on a highlight. It's quality work. She interviewed me and then quickly assessed that I needed some 'wow factor' without going over the top as I'm a natural type of beauty. I agreed with her 100% and then she totally delivered on what she'd said she'd do. Top that off with a $20 discount for first time clients, a free 'redo' if you don't like it (within 10 days) and a discount for return visits and let's just say I'm sold and will be making the 1/2 hour trip from northern WC when I need my hair done again. I'd like to give them 4.75 stars. The minus .25 is because I would have liked to have been offered something to drink (or even nibble on) when I first sat down. It's a very minor thing, but a 5-star salon experience should include those kind of niceties. This ain't a Manhattan salon, so for White Plains, it probably really is a 5 star place. I'm not the guy that goes out of his way to write a review. As you can tell, this being my first review and I have used Yelp from day one or close to it. However, this salon that both myself and my wife have been using for 7.5 years deserves my praises. The first day I walked into the place I was paired up with Rita Mastrorilli-Barreras. She suggested a different style than I was used too and I said sure why not. That was the best decision I have ever made and I now only let her cut my hair. The next time my wife needed to get her hair done I brought her to Static and introduced her to Rita. She too, took Rita's suggestions and fell in love with her new hair style. In 7.5 years we have only used Rita and will not allow anyone else to cut our hair. Another very important person to give credit to there is Ashley. Ashley is the colorist my wife uses at Static and swears by her skills and recommendations. Ashley is the only person my wife trusts with her coloring and highlights. If your looking for a change or an upgrade from your existing salon, give Static a try. You will be pleasantly surprised. So far, I've only been here once, but did have a good time. The front desk totally hides the hair salon and waiting are which I thought was nice. I don't like every which person seeing me getting my hair done. Upon checking in, there is a nice waiting area. The reception staff did ask me if I wanted something to drink. I only waited 5 minutes for my stylist Nicole to come by. I love that there was a flat screen right in front of the shampoo area, though I was only there for five minutes, thought this was another nice touch to the place. The salon area is in itself very stylish, as if I'm getting ready for a photo shoot. My stylist spent several minutes going over what I would like done with my hair. She even let me look through her iPhone so I could find pictures of the style I wanted (my phone battery was dead.) All in all she gave me exactly what I wanted. Make sure to sign up for their emails, because you do get a $20 off coupon for your first visit. Also, when I left they gave me a card saying I could come back for free within 10 days if I'm not satisfied with my look. Also received another 10% off coupon for my next visit as well! Love Static, love Sonia, love Matthew! I lost a great deal of hair a few years ago due to stress and medication. My usual high-end NYC stylist deeply sighed, gave me a lousy cut, and said well, what can you expect. I went to another high-end NYC salon where the atmosphere was lovely, the cut good, albeit much too short for my tastes, (what someone called "cueball" v. Judi Dench look which I wanted) and the prices atmospheric! Looked to go local in Westchester, and came across Static, sent an email, received an instant response, and made an appt. w/Sonia. AM I HAPPY I DID! GREAT haircut, charming personality, and she made great suggestions re: product. I was nervous when Sonia put products in my hair, as I have had bad experiences in other salons w/products being used to cover a bad haircut. Not here! the cut falls perfectly, (although of course, not as voluminously), even w/o product, which to me, is a sign of a true haircutting expert. Another great note about Static: the owner, Matthew, came over to make sure that I was happy w/cut and services. Now that's service! Also--the cut was about half of what I pay in NYC. Static is fabulous! I've been a client for 5 years and am sad to be moving out of the area and leaving the Static team. Is 4 hours too far to drive for amazing cut, color, and facials?? I cannot say enough good things about the experiences I've had at Static. The stylists and colorists really listen to their clients but aren't afraid to make suggestions if they have an idea that might look better. Every time I leave, I feel and look great (or at least my hair does!). I've seen Janie and Kelly for color and Nanette for cuts/style - all are amazing! I've also gotten facials at Static and they are top-notch. Julie is a wonderful esthetician and recommended (inexpensive) skincare that's really worked for me. The front desk staff is always attentive, pleasant, and friendly. Dwayne and Catherine have gotten to know me and my husband over the past 5 years and always ask how we're doing as people, not just as clients. this place is great and they know what they're doing.....im used to getting razor cuts in the city and heard that this place may accommodate me, the male receptionist book me with someone and was very polite....the day before my visit he had called me to inform me that the stylist he booked me with wasn't to keen on doing male razor cuts and if i'd like to make an appointment with someone else. Now although this may annoy some people, i was pleased that he was up front and honest with me, rather than me going in there and not get the qulaity cut that i was expecting. So I rebooked with another stylist name Mariana, who was super cool and excited to cut my hair. I am a barber so i came in with my head shaved on the sides, so all she did was the top. I was very pleased with the cut and afterwards when paying she informed me that because it was only half a haircut, they gave me a discount! Wow! talk about service, most places would have taken your money and said goodbye! These guys know what they're doing, this is probably the only place in Westchseter with NYC service. read more
