The service is amazing, I love getting my hair cut by Margaret! She knows how to do it all, from classic cuts to stylish shags. I also got my hair dyed blonde once and it was amazing because I have dark brown hair and the girls were able to dye my hair without completely frying it. The salon itself is super clean and sleek, and they always have movies playing on the TVs which is nice. I also really love the scalp massages they give when they wash your hair. SO GOOD! I had my first appointment yesterday to get blue streaks in mlonde hair & I couldn't be more pleased. From the moment I walked in til the moment I checked out, every person I spoke or dealt with was warm, welcoming & solicitous. Alyssa was my colorist & felt comfortable with her immediately. We discussed what I wanted, she presented the color options, explained how they would look & where they could be placed in the most flattering way. The end result was terrific. The streaks are noticeable but subtle &, despite the fact that blue isn't exactly a normal hair color, they DID blend in very naturally with my blonde base color. I had arrived in horrible weather & a very stressful day but, after looking at myself in the mirror, my mood was definitely more upbeat. I had casually asked Alyssa who she would recommend for a cut as my hair was pretty shaggy. I didn't expect to be seen yesterday afternoon but, knowing that I had had a pretty miserable day, she spoke to Philip privately & asked if he could squeeze me in & he did. I had the same experience with Philip (which is one of the things I liked most about the salon) as both he & Alyssa spent time explaining what they were going to do & why & asking me what my thoughts were as they went along. I felt listened to & heard. My usual haircut is pretty short as my hair has thinned getting older & short hair is more flattering at this point in my life. Philip's cut was a little shorter but it fell beautifully with the longer bangs I wanted along with the tighter back. He listened carefully to what I wanted or didn't want. Between the coloring & the cut, I left the salon a very happy camper. One note of caution for older customers: Static is located in a prewar building with no elevator & a long flight of steep steps to the second floor. I walk with a cane & by the time I reached the salon, I was out of breath. Going down was easier than going up but several people in the salon offered to walk with me to make sure I descended safely. I've been coming to Static for about 8 years now. About four years ago I started coloring my hair. Coming back in after three months of quarantine and letting my hair go was a daunting thought. I just wanted to trim the ends and keep my length but the color... Let me tell you, Alyssa is everything. EVERYTHING! Now I've known this because she's been my colorist since I started but after this appointment I had to share. I was weary and unhelpful. I showed her pictures of variations on what we typically do to my hair and she explained that because of the length of my root it would have to be done differently than normal. Call me metro, call me meticulous, call me whatever you wish but when it comes to my hair being cut I am very particular. After searching for a barber in White Plains and coming up with poor results I decided to try my hair at a salon. I was not disappointed with Static. Static has remained quite the same throughout the time I've been going there - which has been about 2 years. Attentive customer service, and an easy going environment. The salon is fitted with several television sets, wide open spacing, and a comfortable lounge where you can enjoy a Static bottle of water, mimosa, or coffee. All the assistants are very pleasant and the receptionists are some of the most attentive I've found anywhere. As for the stylists themselves I can only speak for Carole, but those words are heavy with praise. Her attitude and skill are both great. I can't say enough good things about this salon especially Alyssa and Marina who did my hair! The salon itself is so trendy and so fun and just so relaxed which is what a woman wants to feel when escaping for a few hours. Don't come to this salon!! The co-founder of the salon Matthew doesn't have any ethic and treated his customer very rude!! I went for a hair cut at Static last week. It came out very different with the picture I showed to the stylist. It was the worst hairstyle I ever had. The left and right side of the hair was not the same length. I felt very bad and wrote a review on yelp with one star. As They offer a "10-day satisfaction guarantee", I called to make an appointment one week later to fix my hair. After I arrived the salon for the 2nd time to fix my hair, you guess what happened? OMG, I have never encountered any business owner like this before. Never!!Matthew came out and shakes my hand. He talked about my one star review on yelp and said he won't fix my hair because of my review! OMG! If you don't want fix the hair, why would you even have a slogan with "10 day guarantee." And even more, why don't tell me ahead of time until I came to the salon?!?! It's such a waste of time! He told me this business has been there for 10 years. With such a unethical and rude attitude to your customers, I don't think this business can really sustain. To Matthew: if I were you, the customer didn't like the first visit, but she gave you the 2nd chance, I would seize the opportunity to win the customer back instead of lose the customer forever! I've been really hesitant to write this review, but feel that it is worth it if others can benefit from my experience. The reason I don't want to slash this place, is because the people who work on my hair are lovely. However, the results this summer were just terrible! I walked in on a mission to spruce myself up for the summer. I'm a single mom, and I saved up to treat myself to the first professional color I've had done since my teens. Philip cut my hair. The cut was ok, but not really a change at all from my previous hair cut. Then I went over to Ashley, who is the "color expert." I explained I wanted to go lighter for the summer, but wanted minimal maintenance. She explained a demi color with some highlights (that she wanted to throw in for free) would do the trick. Good plan! Except that when I got home, I realized that the highlights were brassy. Like, really orange. I showed several friends who agreed and urged me to call her and explain how unhappy I was. I made an appointment to go back in, as per their satisfaction guarantee. I had Philip cut my hair a little more, so that it felt like more of a change. I was happy with the cut. Color-wise, I wanted more of a change, so we discussed some options. We decided to go with the trendy (and expensive) ombre, as the maintenance was low, and it would be able to just grow out. I was really excited! It felt like the right idea for the direction I wanted to go in. Once again, didn't really notice much at the salon, but when I left I noticed how crazy orange it was! I got home and my boyfriend told me my hair was orange, which is sort of heart breaking after going to the salon and spending lots of $ to feel cute and different. My best friend came over and told me it was totally orange. This is what best friends are for :) She'd never lie to me. The problem was, I had to go away the next day for my cousins wedding in Kentucky, which I was giving a reading at. YAY! I had to do it all with orange hair :) I emailed photos immediately, which made it very apparent how awful my hair color was. They told me to come back in. For this third and final color trip, Ashley darkened the ombre that I spent all that $ on, so that you could barely see it against my brown hair. Whatever, I didn't care- it wasn't orange and I just wanted to be done with this mess. Ashley also gifted me a bottle of purple anti brassiness shampoo. I asked why I would need this? Would my color get brassy again? And she said "Oh, no! It shouldn't!" Which left me confused as to why I would need this bottle of anti brassiness shampoo, though I was thankful for the gift. A few days later- no literally, like two washes later, my hair was orange again. I am not kidding you guys, my hair was so brassy and orange everywhere that the ombre lightener was applied. I emailed several times and spoke with Duane, who could not have been nicer or more helpful. However, it took a few days for him to get approval from his uppers to process my refund. I thought this was ridiculous, as my complaints were complete with images showing just how bad my hair color was. I received a refund for only half of what I spent on the whole color experience, which still eats away at me now. This all began in June, and we are now in the beg of Sept. I colored my hair on my own since, but the problem continues, that whenever the color fades, I am left with this nasty orange ombre base. My hair color was totally ruined by this. Not to mention my hair quality... I went into this place with soft, healthy, virgin hair. It makes me so upset that I spent money and time for this mess. Ashley was VERY sweet. Philip couldn't be nicer. And Duane was very helpful. But it doesn't change the fact that my hair color came out just terrible, and was never truly fixed, just masked for a couple days here and there. read more

I'm not sure if Yelp has enough stars for Static. I have been getting my hair done at Static for several years now and my experiences are just better and better. As I mentioned in my first review I have very thick, curly, frizzy hair. It is very rare for me to find a stylist that understands this type of hair. Philip has proven to me time and time again he can handle anything. He gives the best cuts, the best blow outs, the best up dos, the best keratin treatments, the best everything. I also stated that Philip must have a PhD in blowouts, he truly is an expert in all things hair. I stand by this comment and he has never once failed to impress me. After a blowout by Philip I've actually been stopped by women on the train or on the street asking me what I use in my hair. I always give them Static's information and tell them to call Philip. My hair is in the best condition it has ever been thanks to Philip and all of the staff at Static. The last time I was in for a keratin treatment I was talking to both Philip and Matthew about how dry my hair sometimes gets and I really didn't feel like the Keratin conditioner they sell was really working for me. Instead of Philip and Mathew pushing one of their Static products on me or trying to convince me to spend a lot of money in their salon, Matthew went to his office and came back with a bottle of tresemme conditioner. He told me to stop at the a store on my way home and try it out. He was right, excellent conditioner and its only $6.00. I would have never thought to try something like that. Everyone at Static will always have you and your hair in mind and what is best for you as an individual. What I explained above is just one of the hundreds of reasons why I love this salon. If you have thick, curly, frizzy hair try Philip out you will not be disappointed. If he can handle my hair, guaranteed he can handle yours. The only thing left to say is that this salon has earned something not any other salon has ever earned from me and that is my loyalty. I don't think I will ever use another salon. It will always be difficult for me to rate a salon 5 stars since I was previously a hair model for a few, and I know what it's like to be completely pampered from the moment you walk into a salon. It's been a few years since I have strayed from NY salons for a really drastic cut. I've had my hair cut and styled in other states for the last 2 -3 years. Recently, I wanted to get a haircut and just not be disappointed. I haven't been to Static since they first opened. They were fantastic when they opened, and they are even better now. The salon is very posh... the stylists really want to show their creative edge. The apprentices are friendly, and you can tell that they'll be great stylists soon. Plus, you get a mimosa when you come in! Rita had the pleasure of doing what she wanted with my very long hair. She was excited to not be held back and understood that I was very low-maintenance on my hair styling. She chopped off a good amount and left me with a style that is easy to handle and still makes everyone admirers of the cut. Since I did not have a lot of time, we only did a cut. But, she has fantastic ideas for color later on. The staff at Static is amazing. Always friendly. Fantastically filled with Manhattan stylists who also work at Static... which is great for people of Westchester... since sometimes going down to the city can eat up a whole day. There are a lot of salons on Mamaroneck Avenue... some are hits... some are misses... I definitely do not have a problem recommending this place to others. I am so disappointed in the haircut I received at this place. Yeah, the salon looks nice and they give you champagne but the chick who cut my hair did a BAD job. I asked for my hair to be thinned out/ remove the bulkiness/ layer it. Firstly, she cut my hair wet - I always thought when hair is cut wet you really don't get to see what the cut looks like until you dry it. Compared to when you cut the hair dry you can see the shape of the hair as you cut it. I've always had my hair cut dry at other salons. At the end, she blow dried my hair, giving me volume and some waves/curls. It looked nice! When I washed my hair the next day and had a real look at it I realized her layering technique was VERY bad. Basically I have 2 layers and my hair is still very bulky at the back. She did not thin it out like I asked and basically it looks shocking! After making a decision to dye my hair for the first time I was on the hunt for a full service salon. After reading the great reviews on Yelp and viewing the photos I was convinced that Static was the best choice. Immediately after arriving I knew I was in excellent hands. The gentleman at the front desk greeted me with a smile and was very alert and attentive (my appointment was 09:00 A.M. Saturday). As soon as I sat down I was offered many options of beverages and felt at home. Looking around this Salon I saw that it was clean, neat, and the modern furniture was beautiful. When I was greeted and brought to my chair for a cut and color consultation I was left with a feeling of ease. Everything was explained to me perfectly and I was confident that my hair would come out great. Alyssa handled my color. She was upbeat and professional. She made sure to explain everything she was doing. Being that I am noobe when it comes to hair color I appreciated that. I was so impressed how smooth she was with handling multiple staggered clients. Always checking on myself and other clients so that no one felt neglected. If she said that I would be waiting for the overhead blow dryer for 5 minutes or reclined enjoying a beverage watching TV at the washing station for 10 minutes she was back exactly at that time checking my hair. Next was Nicole for my cut. She asked all the right questions and listened to my needs. She gave me great advice on products and how to use them. She did not pressure me at all or ignored my input on my hair. She did a fabulous cut and the blowout was fantastic. I would and will recommend Static to everyone I know. First let me say that although the salon is beautiful designed and the staff was incredibly friendly it's the sense of trust that you have with your stylist that ends up setting it appart from the rest. Nicole was incredible. I came in with wavy hair about 6 inches past my shoulders and wanted to leave with the base length just under my jaw line. I've been to many high priced salon's in NYC and paid over $150 for a cut that was not only not what I came in asking for with photos but also exceptionally unflattering and not cut properly for wavy/curly hair. Nicole spent a good ten minutes looking through the photo examples i brought in, looking at my hair texture, and discussing with me exactly what I wanted to make sure we were on the same page. Not only is she a great stylist, but she is also an absolutely lovely person and completely puts you are ease while she works her magic. I came in for a huge change with some anxiety, cutting off 3/4 of your hair is a huge change! But the moment I met with her and we discussed it I knew that I was going to leave with exactly what I wanted. Long story short the cut is amazing and cost me far less then what I've paid in the past at high end salons! I've had this length hair many times in my life but never as flattering and well cut. My boyfriend who also came along loves the hair but also loved the atmosphere and design of the salon itself. Five stars really isn't enough for Nicole. I'm a client for life. read more

First off, let me say that as a person on TV and in the public eye, my image - especially hair, can make or break me. It takes alot for me to be impressed and to trust a salon - and Static delivered what I wanted in spades. From the moment you enter the salon, you feel like you are in for an amazing experience. It feels almost like you are entering a zen TV studio, where you are going to be the star and receive treatment as a leading man or lady (and having been on many TV sets, Static made me feel even more welcomed). Antoniette sat me down and discussed a fun and exciting new look with dark and blonde hair. The result not only made me look like a rock star, but also excited to show this look off on TV. She is one of the best colorists I've ever seen. My style and cut with Philip (overlooked by the salon's co-owner Matthew) was probably one of the most informative sessions I've ever had. They not only gave me tips for styling but also showed me techniques to get it looking amazing on a day to day basis. I was really disappointed by the hair color from Ashley at Static Salon. After a very detailed conversation with the stylist before she colored my hair, she seemed to understand the terms "ash", "non-brassy", "no warm tones", "blue-violet". Medium ash brown with cool tone partial highlights is not an unusual request and I have had the same process for years at other salons in NYC. After four hours in the salon, I left in tears with auburn hair and orange highlights. Over Thanksgiving weekend I had to meet family and friends who were shocked by my horrible color and sloppy placement of highlights. Overall, it was one of the worst salon experiences I have ever had. The very next day I went back, but Ashley was "unavailable" to fix her mistakes, so another stylist agreed to help, Antoinette, the second stylist, was quite rude and rushed though my second visit, very unhappy with having to fix the first stylists mistakes. She tried her best to fix the red, but admitted that to 'get me back to ash brown' would take a lot of work.. Even after the two days, six hours and several hundred dollars invested no one could fix the damage that Static's stylist had caused. After the second visit, I left the salon with warm tones and highlights, not the ash brown I requested. It is one of the worst experiences I have ever had in a salon. read more

I had moved to the area from CA and have been looking for salons that are as great as my previous salon for semi-permanent color, cuts and blow outs. Entering the salon it was very hip, spacious, music playing and there was someone to promptly check me in as I arrived. My first visit was for a blowout with Philip. It was fantastic! He certainly aims to please and does a great job!! I was very happy with the service. The blowout runs $45 which is comparable to LA. My next visit was for color with Antonietta. Given I had my color formula from my previous hair dresser of 12 years I was sure it would be easy. I was pleasantly surprised with just how great the color had come out (perhaps even better). Prior to this visit to Static I had gone to another salon in the area, with the same formula, and the result wasn't as good. The single process here runs $85. My only con with the salon was not being told ahead of time that I wasn't getting a complete service. I had never been to a salon where you had to "book" a stylist to dry your hair. It's always been a part of the service, time to chat and get to know your stylist. Thankfully, the assistant stepped in when I expressed my displeasure and confusion with not being told. The assistant then dried my hair. Now I know to be prepared to dry it myself or book a blowout with another stylist. I have been coming to Static for a few years now. Before Static Salon I found myself dealing with inconsistent colorists and hair stylists. My hair had been burned, turned orange and occasionally it came out just okay. In the old salons, I have witnessed fighting between girls, a girl once ate a sandwich while doing my highlights and I have even sat for hours under a dryer without a bottle of water....UNTIL a friend referred me to Static. I truly feel I hit the hair lottery. This place has never done my locks wrong. Every time I leave, I get beeped at by a car on mamaroneck ave LOL. I actually carry the cards of the girls who color (Ashley, she is a color scientist!)and cut (Sonia, a whiz at cutting but keeping length) because I am asked so often who colors and cuts my hair. I would describe my hair as difficult. It is also super long. But somehow, Ashley and Sonia tame and beautify it. I have never left Ashley's seat and felt unhappy and I am not the biggest fan of cutting my hair, it's my blanket lol but Sonia ALWAYS listens to me and trims exactly what I ask. She's always makes the ends look new. Love this salon! What's better then getting pampered and drinking free mimosa's at the same time?! The layout of the salon is beautiful and staff is very sweet. My stylist is Philip, and he is just fabulous...between his skill for cutting hair and his amazing blow outs- i felt like a movie start leaving there :). I do like that he listens to what you want, which for me has been hard to find before him..he was able to keep my hair long while giving it lots of body and style. I wanted to write this so everyone knows how important static treats their clients and their satisfaction. And how incredibly knowledgeable they are because sometimes messed up color isn't the colonists fault it's the clients!.... I've been going to static for over a year now and I am still really really in love with my stylist/colorist! Even after a recent "mishap" Recently I went back after not coloring my hair for six months because I was pregnant. The grown out color still looked amazing (I mentioned I was trying to get pregnant so she did something that could grow out) but I wanted a change or so I thought (never 'change your hair when your pregnant). I asked Alyssa for a darker look. And we did a full highlight of highs and lows. It was gorgeous! When I got home I noticed it was a little spotty -something that has never happened before but I I did get up a couple times to go to the lady's room so I figured it was probably me moving so much. For the money I pay I wanted to be 100% satisfied and the receptionist agreed got me in the very next day on a Saturday and even booked me in a private room so I could bring my toddler (and his iPad) Alyssa apologized profusely and swore she was never careless which I know I wasn't worried. We decided to add some more low lights to the roots to even the color out. Everything looked great again (my one complaint is static does need better lighting!!) but when I got home and washed my hair the next day and straightened it there was MORE spots! I was in tears. I contacted Alyssa via IG and she kept in contact with me all weekend until I could come in on Wednesday. She explained to me sometimes hormones, especially pregnancy ones and even medication, really anything can tamper with color and alter the way your hair absorbs the colors. Who knew?!? Apparently my head just really didn't like low lights, and honestly I didn't like being dark like I thought I would! Static allowed me to revisit the salon for the third time for a full head of two different color of highlights FREE OF CHARGE! They were so understanding and apologetic and Alyssa has gotten to know me and my hair so well she even said "I don't know why I let you go darker I knew you wouldn't like it". Lesson learned- trust your colorist! They know best!!! read more
