I have been going to Vasken for 20 years - it is a beautiful atmosphere with friendly staff - I always enjoy a cappuccino and/or a water on my visits. Okay honestly , I have been to so many salons in my life. The colorist here - Alinda has a real passion for coloring hair and it shows. She really cares about the health of your hair and takes in consideration exactly what you say you want. My experience at the Vasken Salon this past Saturday was nothing less than perfection. I'm a tough critic so this review is very well earned. It was my first experience at Vasken. I was running late as I was coming from quite a distance and the traffic was brutal. Nevertheless, I was greeted in the most lovely manner. The salon was quite busy and I felt very welcomed. Everyone I met at the salon had the biggest smile.Ezra the manager, who put extra change in the meter by my car so I wouldn't receive a ticket, Aracelli who washed my hair and of course, Bulent who styled my hair. Bulent certainly had his own styling technique. It took him every bit of an hour to shape and style my hair. He truly is a master. Let me start by saying that I am about three years late in writing this review! I have been going to Vasken Salon since 2013. Since then I have moved 70 miles away but this is absolutely the only place I will go to get my hair done. My hair is naturally dark brown/black, dry and fine. I have had a lot of issues with hair being brittle due to choppy dye jobs from previous salons. I first came to this salon as I got a Groupon for highlights and I have been hooked ever since. Arta has been a blessing- when I first came in, all I knew was I wanted highlights to give some volume to my thin hair. But I did not know which shades of brown I really wanted since I have brown skin and highlights can easily go wrong. She listened to me and gave me beautiful highlights that not only gave more dimensions to my hair but also made it look very natural. Most recently as summer was beginning, Arta gave me a beautiful balayage and lighter strands that frame my face and I love the look! In the same appointment, Alinda gave me a blow-dry and that was so beautiful. It was the first time Alinda worked with me but it will definitely not be the last (see attached pictures for her amazing blow-dry). As I said earlier, I wanted more volume in my hair and after this blow-dry my hair was definitely full and bouncy. For the past three years, I have only been scheduling my appointments with Arta. There is absolutely no question that she is an expert in her job. However, the reason I keep coming back to this place is also her personality. She is personable, kind and genuinely takes an interest in her clients. I truly feel comfortable going to her and talking about anything- be it hair or life. A few words about the prices at this establishment. I would rate this as a premium salon (yelp has 3 dollar signs for it). So it is in no way cheap going over here. But at the same time you get exactly what you pay for- For the past two years, I have been in grad school and this is definitely too pricey for a student budget. However, I save up money regularly so I can afford going to this salon and it is totally worth it. I highly recommend giving your hair the luxury treatment at Vasken Salon. Finally...my search for beautiful, healthy hair is over...Part 2. I waited a few weeks. Conditioning masks. Less washing. Minimal styling. Utilized the kerastase products recommended. I wanted more of VS. I needed to see Vasken. This one color, rooted process that was lacking dimension needed to be addressed. I booked my appointment during daylight as Vasken instructed so he could work under optimal conditions. Vasken is brilliance. He describes hair as his canvas and I am more than happy to be his subject and muse. The balayage or Vasken color technique he implemented on my strands brought my hair back to life and defined Mauro's cut even more beautifully. My hair has dimension, body...if I treat my hair as he instructed, I just may be able to repair or grow out healthy hair going forward. And as far as price goes, don't be intimidated or hesitant. Yes, anything this good is going to cost a pretty penny. But if I look at how much I was paying per year for a color and cut every 2 months for hair that was lifeless, breaking and not in good health - I actually was paying more than what I will with VS in the course of a years time. Furthermore, after my first color experience with Vasken, I still felt I needed a few more lighter pieces in the back to blend in more seamlessly with my front. Vasken said this might happen. He promptly had the staff call me to schedule a session at my own convenience and did not charge me, which was unnecessary but much appreciated. Alinda did my blowout. It lasted for days. I actually thought it looked even better by day 3. She used one of the oils on my ends and a few round brushes to produce the volume and curls. Her warm personality and talent is just another example of why I love this salon. In conclusion, Vasken and his select team of professionals know hair. The Vasken Demirjian Salon in White Plains, NY is that hidden little gem that provides celebrity service and style without having to trek into the city or fly to the west coast and spend your life savings for fabulous hair. Even though I have latched onto Mauro for my cut, Vasken for my color and now Alinda for my blowouts...I feel I have seen enough from the rest of his staff to tell you that you can't go wrong with any of the stylists. My first haircut with him I brought pictures of cuts I liked and he nailed it. Since then I just sit in his chair and let him do his magic. I was recommended to the Salon by a friend who lives in walking distance to try the "experience." Meaning, a full service Salon with great Stylists, Welcoming Front Desk, well lit, and a massage shampoo. How could I not? Got an appointment with a Stylist who is good with long hair and since they use Oribe products, I knew my hair would shine. Did some color, a few lowlights, and a surprise...I treated my self to a Makeup Artist after my blowout. I felt like a million bucks. Perhaps a little lighter upon leaving, but the "experience" was well worth it and thankfully they didnt judge my Jean's and Cowboy boots like I never had my hair done! 4 Stars only because you have to park in this huge pay municipal lot and of course I got a ticket for overtime. This was the worst salon experience in my life. I called to make an appointment with someone who was trained in devacurl cutting for curly hair. I was assured they had two great ladies. I also asked for a Brazilian wax. When I got there a man cut my hair, not a certified dc specialist. I asked about this they assured that he was. Long story short burned vagina They did refund me for this. Horrible haircut. During the summer I came in to Vasken , I usually never change colorist but my husband had received a gift card to this place from his job and I decided to give it a try . It was a $150 so I figured what the heck since I usually pay $250-300 for color change and blowout. For the life of me I can't remember the girl who colored my hair but she was extremely sweet and walked me through everything . Explained she was using the best products etc . My hair began to fall out weeks later and it was so dry and damaged. I payed over $400 for a color change that completely damaged my hair and a blow out that I could have done myself because it was terribly done. read more

Really great salon ! They know what theyre doing, thats for sure. I went to get a simple dye job done but i have been to many salons for this exact thing which werent half as good. The stylist really listened to what i wanted and she gave her input to me as well. We came to a decision together of what would be the best shade for me. Im sure everyone can say that they have been to a salon where they had the frustrating experience of the stylist not listening to them and doing their own thing without telling you. Well you wont get that bad experience here. It is pricey but if you want something done that you will keep for a few months or longer it is totallyy worth the money. I am a steadfast Vasken client. I have been for a couple of years and I do not see this changing, like ever. :) Today, I had a haircut with Mauro. I wanted to share feedback on my experience - he was exceptional. I have long, fine hair and I feel like I didn't have to really explain what I was hoping for before he totally "got it." He articulated what he envisioned and it was exactly what I wanted and exactly what he created. Long layers, movement, lift, volume...I love it. He is highly talented. So if you are looking for cuts...I have been to Sabit and Mauro and they are both extraordinary. I have the sense that Vasken only brings in the best talent, so you can't exactly go wrong at his salon. But in summary, Mauro rocked my cut today and I am so appreciative of his skills and his willingness to listen and reflect what I wanted in his work...I had to write about it. Vasken is a color genius and a genuine person who shows all clients an immense level of appreciation and respect; Sabit and Mauro are two stylists I can attest to as being incredibly talented...the other members of the team routinely have total bombshells stepping out of their chairs. I mean, if someone can convert you from a yoga-pants-wearing-domestic-godess to a bombshell...that's nice, right?! I was in desperate need of a hair style, as opposed to the hair cuts I'd been getting. My friend, who has gorgeous hair, recommended Mauro at Vasken. I was a little hesitant because of the price...but it was well worth it!!! The reception staff was friendly and welcoming, everything was clean, and several people offered me a hot drink while I waited. Mauro's passion was obvious and genuine. He talked to me about my hair type and what I was looking for, gave me a relaxing shampoo and hand massage, and then the most amazing style ever. I had a great morning of pampering and look forward to going back! While I was paying, another employee (who I later learned was Vasken himself) approached me and asked what I did for my color. I was a little embarrassed but admitted it was from a box. I thought he was going to give me the "lecture" I've gotten in other salons, so I was really surprised when he offered me some advice (without a touch of snootiness) about going a shade darker and how much time to leave it on just the roots. I had super high hopes for this salon as I was paying sooo much money and never have gone to such a high end salon...I really didn't come out too happy. The stylists who did my hair were both very kind and worked with me to take my hair from flat and colored improperly to actually looking decent. I felt like I could have had more color added to my hair as in the initial consultation I had requested a heavy handed color at the bottom but I believe it is my fault as I did not reiterate that and generally, I feel like my color is barely visible and that it just isn't what I wanted based off of photos I had referenced. That is not to say that it wasn't a good job. The job was wonderful and my hair was kept in tact despite the abuse it's been through. I just feel like the end result wasn't what I had hoped for. I really REALLY appreciate all of the time and effort that was put into my haircut especially. My stylist was meticulous about the cut. My only problem is I was actually very upset leaving the salon. My hair looked awful. It was styled so badly and the colorist even agreed with me...it did no favors for me and my bangs and hair were flat ironed and I looked like a muppet when I left the salon. I understand why my hair was flat ironed as we were using razors, but I was kind of shocked that I was to be leaving the salon with my hair looking how it did. The stylist was kind of trying to comfort me about my hair. In addition, at the beginning of my haircut I had shown photos of what I wanted and described the styles I liked and what I was going for. That was all insulted by the end of my haircut. I was told that that is boring and that that's not what I want and that everyone has that hair cut. Mind you, I had wanted to collaborate and meet in the middle for my haircut regarding what I wanted and what the stylist had in mind. I'm sorry if my stylist did not enjoy the haircut I had requested but to just downright insult the haircut I had asked for and tell me what he gave me was better?? That's not okay! I'm pretty reserved and a haircut I don't like won't make me sad so I didn't say anything but I don't think other clients would really be okay with being told that, especially if they are thin-skinned. I'm aware it's not a personal jab but if you go to a salon, you go there to have what you ask done...not told that is boring etc. etc. In addition, we had discussed if I style my hair regularly to then get the haircut right for my lifestyle. I really appreciated that but it didn't quite follow through. I NEVER straighten my hair and none of the photos I referenced showed straight hair...(all I had said was I was willing to put in some effort to style it) and by the end of the cut, I was told I should straighten my hair to get the most out of this hair cut. What? My styling preferences or hair type was not even taken into consideration which baffled me. My hair dries wavy...I was assuming styling meant blow drying or product, not flat ironing the life out of my hair every day and I really wish that was discussed in further detail/specified before the cut started. Overall, I really did appreciate the hospitality at this salon and the hard work and care put into my services. When I went home and styled my hair with a curling iron and products and washed it, it looked significantly better. Although, when it dries naturally the haircut doesn't do anything for me in my opinion which is an issue for me. I had received these services for my birthday and I feel quite sad that I ended up feeling not happy with all of the money I had spent to get a haircut that looked nothing like what I had referenced/asked for. I felt like the hair dresser I had gone to previously had given me the EXACT haircut I wanted and helped me fix my hair but didn't make me feel bad about my request either. Again--not a bad haircut or color, I just didn't come out with what (I felt) that I had asked for/did not meet in the middle for that request and I think that's why I won't be coming back to this salon, although it is clear that the people here are very talented and I think this salon would definitely work for others. read more

This is the best my hair has ever looked - I've never had the nicest looking hair since I've never had a stylist that just "got it". Now, I get so many compliments on my hair. I came to Vasken with a major correction and he turned my disaster into the prettiest gold highlights I've ever had. I have very fine straight hair that is incredibly difficult for me to style or shape, and Bulent gave me the greatest cut ever- everyone tells me how full and healthy my hair looks. It's incredible to watch him transform your hair. In here you're treated like gold. But Hey -- 3 months after my worst haircut ever -- way too short and totally wrong for my face and body, My hair actually looks ok. That's the trick. If you go to stylist Lindsay, figure out how you would like your hair to look in 3 months and then find a hole to bury yourself in for 2 1/2 months. I'm going to now try Paulo's in Bedford because the reviews are good ( I realize how important it is to include names of stylists in these comments. So, yes it was Lindsay who took such liberties with my hair, ignored my specific wishes, and never replied when I called the salon in tears). I know that very famous people bring their daughters to Paulo's and I will only use a stylist who has received good comments and no negative comments on yelp and it will cost less money than Vasken because almost everyplace does. read more

I have now been to the salon twice to see Alinda for single process color. She is incredibly knowledgeable, kind and did a fantastic job. She got rid of some of the brassiness that my hair had and answered all of my questions. I've been doing keratin for 4 years and been from salon to salon. On September 1st 2018 I had my first keratin treatment at Vasken with Vasilios. -So first easy parking lot or valet parking available. -Walking into the salon I'm greeted and walked to the wash right away, every one already knew what specifically to do with my hair to get it ready for vasilios, which included several clarifying shampoos and deep conditioning pre-keratin treatments, a few of them because I have a lot of hair. -When that was done I had an iced cappuccino, and eventually mimosas.. heaven. Yes. -Now during the process Vasilio took all the extra time and care needed for my damaged type 4a hair. The keratin complex did made my hair come back to life as soon as he applied it. -He worked on it strand by strand to get it straight. He definitely had a different technique than other salons I've been to and it worked very well. He learned from his mother.., salon owner for 45 years and has all the love for this practice. -Then, He flat ironed my hair as well and gave me a haircut following all my requirements: keep it long but looking different and fuller, and bangs but just-a little , easy to care for, etc etc. -Currently I'm following the 72 hours recommended watch and got the products to care for them. And a few extras that I wanted like a leave in and a dry shampoo that he was happy to help me choose as well. I spent my Saturday morning there and it was well worth it. I've gotten praises about my hair from everyone around me and I feel very happy about the result. He said may last up to 5-6 months if shampooed once weekly. THANK YOU GUYS!
