Unfortunately my rating is reflective of NOT being serviced by this salon. After several conversations with the owner (in person) as well as the female stylist who was scheduled to cut and blow dry my hair (over the phone), I was told they could do what I needed (cut from 3 inches past my shoulders-long to shoulder length and blow dry naturally curly hair). I arrived on time to my appointment, after driving 20 minutes from home and paying for parking only to be seated and looked over by the female stylist several times sighing and going back and forth between saying she could and could not cut my hair. She gave no particular reason, just kept touching it and looking at and repeatedly went back and forth until after ten minutes of being prodded like a zoo animal decided enough was enough. I was able to book a last minute appointment at M Salon in Eastchester and they gave me EXACTLY the shoulder length cut and style I wanted in less than an hour with only a picture and a few words for direction. Very DISAPPOINTED in Salon Shige as my 3-year old son had a great haircut experience with the owner a few months back that prompted me to try them for my own hair. I've had my hair cut and styled almost exclusively in the past ten years by Japanese salons in NYC, so I really can't figure out why this one salon found my hair difficult to work with. Looking at the pictures of the other customers, my hair is similar to many of their past customers. Oh well. My son won't be returning either. read more

You are paying 40k a year in property taxes in Westchester already and you're literally in too much debt to take care of your thick Asian hair. Worry not. Salon Shige charges 35 bucks for a spanking nice men's haircut with great service. The only con is he is a solo act so the more you like him, the less I'll like you for booking up my slots. read more

Our first time here was definitely wonderful experience, Hitomi-san did a fantastic job with my hair, love it! Very ya sha shii (gentle) massaging with my shoulder and neck too! Shige san did my hubby's hair and his head now looks ten time lighter. 10/10 for sure, and will come back! read more

I tried calling today, after reading many great reviews for a haircut. I was very disappointed that I would not be serviced due to having "long hair". I called to say that I wished to come in for a haircut. She gave me a time and date and proceeded to ask me if I had long hair. Yes- this is why I'm coming to a hair salon for a haircut? And she kept pressing how long, and I said it's long and I'd like it shorter. She asked how short and how long my hair is because it would take a longer time! I was completely dismayed! I just had a wonderful experience with Salon Shige on E Hartsdale Ave this week. The Japanese owner cuts expertly and is familiar with different hair textures. A little head massage (like one might know from Other Asian countries) is adding to the impression of being well cared for. I felt rejuvenated after my trip to the salon and my hair looks amazing! I had asked for a shaggy style which would still allow me to tie back my hair and Shige nailed it. After moving here recently I am glad that I found MY hairdresser. I would 100% recommend to anyone. Scheduling an appointment was very easy. The main salon room is not large, but clients were distanced and masks were worn appropriately by all. I had a haircut with Hitomi and she was attentive to what I was asking for - she made sure to check the length with me. She was very thorough in cutting the layers that I asked for, but not slow in the least. I have fine baby hairs growing in after postpartum hair loss and she was very gentle in those areas when blowdrying and even gave me advice in how to care for those areas. For $45, I would say I've found my hair salon. Highly recommend! (As an aside, they only accept cash - which I was informed of when making the appointment. Just FYI) read more

I recently moved to the area and was in dire need of a haircut. I walk past Salon Shige daily, and thought I'd try them they were so close. Hitomi listened to what I wanted, and we proceeded. The shampoo process was very relaxing, she put a cloth pad over my eyes and tapping massage on my head. After there was addition head shoulder and neck massage in addition to a great cut! This business just recently changed its name from Susen Salon but the male hairstylist and now owner, Shige, is still the same and great as ever. When I searched for a new hairstylist after moving from Cambridage, MA, I was looking for someone who could cut thick Asian hair. I was lucky to find Shige. Shige has been cutting my hair for at least 2 years at salon formerly known as Salon Susen. I have very fine shoulder length "blonde" hair. I had a shorter bob length, which I've been growing out. Shige always listens & gives a great cut that is easy for me to style. He also does my highlights a few times a year & colors the roots more often. I really feel pampered at the salon. Shige gives his undivided attention and also does an amazing shampoo & massage. Plus, he is an absolute gentleman. The prices are also very reasonable.
