Should be the salt roasted prime rib sandwich and Garlic Fries
Mike G.

Stopped in today for lunch since my wife was in the mood for a burger. She thought it was very good. I felt the same about my Salt roasted prime rib sandwich. Garlic fries were ok. A bit extra crispy, but they had good flavor. Service was friendly but could've been a bit more consistent. She was always on the move, so well cut her some slack.

In Bocca Al Lupo ($14) & Fox & The Hound ($14)
Elena N.

Date: Saturday, February 8th, 2025 Time: around 5pm Party of: 2 What: Drinks and Snacks *In Bocca Al Lupo ($14) *Fox & The Hound ($14) *Green Beans ($14) *Brussels ($15) *1/2 Pint Rice Lager ($5) *1/2 Pint Stout ($5) After wine tasting, a friend and I decided to drop by State Room on the way back to SF. We walked in and easily grabbed two seats at the bar. The warriors game was on, so it was perfect for viewing. For cocktails, I got the in bocca al lupo - bourbon, amaretto, lemon, egg white, bitters. I had a pisco sour earlier, so I wanted something similar. It was nice and tart, which was just what I wanted. My friend got the Fox & Hound - absolut pink grapefruit vodka, agave, grapefruit, elderflower. I had a taste and it was light and refreshing. I didn't try the food or beer, but the dishes looked tasty. I do adore my veggies. Fun spot to watch the game and grab a few drinks. REVIEW #3690

Chopped salad.. well worth it!

4.5 Stars - Classy, Crafty, and Downright Delicious The State Room - San Rafael, CA We rolled in for a birthday weekend dinner and left full, happy, and already planning our next visit. The vibe is elevated but still relaxed - like if a bourbon bar and a Cali supper club had a perfect baby. Drinks first: Fancy bourbon cocktails with egg whites? Say less. That's our jam, and they nailed it. Balanced, creamy, boozy - every sip was a vibe. Apps: Chopped Salad - crisp, clean, layered. Lomi Salmon - fresh and flavorful, a slick island nod. Dumplings - rich, chewy, umami-packed. All fire. Mains: She had the Seoul Bowl - think bougie bibimbap with depth and flair. I went classic with the brined buttermilk fried chicken - crispy, juicy, seasoned to the bone. Comfort meets craft. Service? Impeccable. Our waitress was a total gem - cool, attentive, and fully dialed in. She made the whole night feel special without trying too hard. Respect. For a birthday dinner, it hit every note. Drinks, food, service - all top shelf. The State Room is officially on our "must come back" list.

came here at 1130 that's about time they opened, got seated and given water as I waited and looked over the menu. I ordered a blackberry cider and some garlic param fries! so good. The waitress noticed I was running low on some ketchup and brought me another. super kind. I was waiting for a guest and I remembered I was running out of time on the meeter. I told the waitress that I had to run out and feed the meeter. She was beyond kind about it. The service and atmosphere was great! They had good beats playing but not too loud, but just enough so you could eat and hear the conversation going on. I came here once before for work thing and it was so much fun then too, I remember them having a game room in the back? but couldn't say if they still do. I ordered pizza that time and it was so good. seems like no choice is a bad one here.

3rd time coming here but the last 2 were pre-baby so doing this review again but in a different light. First off: venue is really cozy and family friendly, there are magnet board available for children to play while waiting for food. There is also a shooting machine game available if needed more entertaining for younger ones. The menu has quite changed but still good and tasty! I used to order their garden risotto and i didn't see that anymore so I ordered their garlic noodles with prawns. It was very tasty! Big serving too! Hubby got the burger with smashed avocado and it comes with a side, he chose salad! Kids menu is a bento box! My daughter had mac and cheese, which includes: apple slices, carrots, juice/milk, fries and a chocolate chip cookie! My hubby was impressed how the kid's menu was presented... We shared a warm strawberry crumble with vanilla ice cream for dessert! The most important thing was that the service was fast enough that my child did not yet finish coloring the coloring sheet that was provided for her when the food came! Pretty awesome! Will definitely go back again!

Love the kids bento boxes!

It's been so long (8 years!) since I've reviewed State Room that Yelp no longer gives me the option to update my old review. Anyway, 8 years later, bumping up a star after finally having a State Room burger. Best burger in Marin*. Perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked. I've been disappointed by the simple burger in many otherwise fine Marin restaurants, so this was a particular pleasure. I also love the kids bento boxes! And the kids cheese pizza is just right (I'm looking at you Waterfront on the Embarcadero, where a kid's cheese pizza is merely crust and cheese). We tried to make reservations for the patio (we were bringing our dog), but State Room only makes indoor reservations. The staff member I talked to said there would be no problem this time of year (February). We got lucky and got a table for six, but the outdoors soon filled up--even at 7 (late for the suburbs) in February. It's nice to see a lively downtown. Coming back soon for the brunch cast iron cinnamon roll! *best sit-down restaurant burger. Super Duper is best "fast" burger.

Tuna poke bowl, bibimpop and dumplings.
Barbara R.

Fun place, with an upscale but casual pub feel. We sat at the bar since seating was limited to the outdoor patio or a high top without reservations. Their housemade beer is pretty good- we had the Lizard Juice IPA and Franklin Town IPA. We shared the dumplings small plate and they were excellent. However, the tuna in my poke bowl was surprisingly tough with little sauce, and I ended up not eating some of it. We also ordered the bibimpop, which was delicious. Service was really good, too. If it weren't for the disappointing tuna I would have given this place 5 stars.

We loved this place. The completely inclosed patio was heated. Drinks were great and food was good! We would def go back. Kid friendly for sure

My partner and I celebrated our anniversary in San Rafael and booked our dinner reservation here. The restaurant has a lovely interior and was busy in a weekday night. We ordered a variety of dishes and they came out in a timely manner. Cubano: on the heavier side for a sandwich. Unique flavor and crunchy bread. Calamari: I was particularly excited about this dish as we were in a harbor city. However I felt the breading was what saved the dish and the actual meat was not amazing. A little disappointed. Margarita: Yummy classic thin crust pizza. Beer flight: My partner is a beer enthusiast and particularly liked this flight. I personally liked the special (a cider) for its sweet flavor the most. We also ordered a side dish of fries and salad. There were a TON of fries in the singular dish of it, which we took home for a later snack. The salad was refreshing but a simple standard assortment of ingredients.

We had some drinks and light eats on the patio here the other night and had a lovely time. They have a covered/enclosed dog friendly patio which was very convenient as I always have my dog with me. Our companions ordered a Paper Plane and a La Machetita and the Paper Plane was so good we had to get another round! I took advantage of the fact that it was pint night and snagged myself a Patriot Pilsner for only $4 which was really good. I also ordered garlic fries (which came out as plain fries, but we got it taken care of in the end) My husband had the dumplings and really enjoyed them. I really enjoyed the ambiance of the patio. It was dark and fairly quiet with only a few other patrons outside and although they have heaters on the patio it wasn't quite cold enough to turn them on. It was crisp and in our coats the temperature was just right. We were able to sit and have a nice catch up session. If that's not your vibe, the interior was bright and bustling so you have options. We will definitely return to this location again.

Came here with my coworkers and it was overall a good experience. The food is a little pricey. We shared calamari and cheese bread from the happy hour menu. I ordered a poke bowl. The bowl was a good portion but it was a bit too sweet for me. If it was a bit salty too, that would have been so much better. I rather have this dish at a poke place at a cheaper price. We shared churros, cheesecake bread pudding, and warm brownie sundae. Everything was really good but my favorite was the brownie. Service was really good. Our server always checked on us to make sure we got everything we needed. There were TVs and games to keep us entertained too.

Heirloom tomato salad was meh
Carole B.

Love the bartender Rhiannon!! She makes a mean margarita and serves up excellent cocktails with amazing banter. The food leaves something to be desired. Ordered the heirloom tomato salad which was on the specials, thinking we'd get juicy, sun ripened end of the summer goodness but we were sorely disappointed. For $17 the cardboard supermarket tomatoes topped with a smidge of burrata did not inspire. The mushroom pizza was a good deal but very dry. I have tried some tasty dishes on other occasions but overall very hit or miss on the culinary side.

Short distance from the hotel was a plus for me. It was fairly empty for lunch. I sat outside to take in the views and take a break from ac. The outside patio is really cute. It's covered so no worries on that. My waiter was nice. He gave me time to order when I realized I was just a few minutes outside the start of happy hour. First bites of the pork ribs were heaven. It was so flavorful and juicy. I was getting it as a starter but it honestly filled me up. Added the garlic bread to that and it was all perfection. My drink In the Weeds was a great choice; great portion of gin. Might go back for dinner

Tye, our server, was friendly and kind and on top of refilling waters, offering drink suggestions, and grabbing to-go boxes before we even asked for them! I had the chicken parmigiana, which was light and flavorful, and the steamed spinach that went with it was delicious (and I HATE cooked spinach, but gave it a try and actually enjoyed it for the first time ever!) The andouille sausage that was served with the pesto risotto was smoked and you could really taste it, and the spicyness was just perfect. The pesto sauce was heavy on the pine nuts in the best way. It wasn't oily or heavy on the basil or garlic like a lot of pesto sauces can be, and that left the risotto so light and almost citrusy. My cousin had the harvest garden dish, and they were stunned by how delicious it was. As a vegetarian, they are particular about their veggies, but everything was 'perfectly cooked'. At the end of the meal we were surprised by the panna cotta with the fruit remoulade, which we devoured in like three minutes haha! We really enjoyed all of the food, the service, and the ambiance. We only wish we lived closer, but might make the 90+ mile trip from Sacramento just for the amazing food now and then.

This was a bit spicy but not bad at all and this is coming from a wimp who can barely tolerate siracha. The chicken is so crunchy and juicy. I'd compare the sauce to almost like an indian curry like (but not really). 2. Fried Chicken Green sauce: This sauce tasted more like carribean or coconut-y style. Both this and the spicy one was delicious but I actually liked this one more. I loved the coconut/creamy flavor of the sauce and it went so well with the freshly fried chicken. Overall, hands down the best asian food in Marin. There isn't even a question or comparison. The portions are huge, the flavors are fresh and innovative. The service is also great. The shop itself can it a bit hard to find as it isn't really labeled. Its just a small shack in the parking lot of Scotty's Market.
