Greeted right on time, sat at the bar and was promptly served drinks and checked in until we were ready to order. Unique menu with different cultural food. There was three of us. This was an oasis after our 2 hr Dawn Falls hike in Larkspur- we were ready for some serious grub and refreshments! -Beer Flight $12: our table ordered 3 of these so we're able to try all of the house-brewed beers. I liked the wheat-based "Red, Wit, and Blue" and the seasonal stout best! -Bang Bang Calamari $15: crisp, flavorful, tender and an aioli with a nice kick. -State Room burger $19 with white cheddar ($1) and garlic fries ($3) = $23: SO good- had it done medium and was a 1/2 lb super thick, juicy Prather Ranch dry aged ground beef patty with vibrant greens and a perfectly buttery toasted brioche bun. Garlic fries were alright, kinda thin and not as memorable. Our server was very sweet and checked in with us frequently and refilled our glasses/ answered our questions. Initial length of time for our beer/calamari to arrive was a tad long, but everything else came out at a better cadence. Prices were pretty expensive but we were in Marin County so we expected that. The food, service, and ambiance were incredible! We came to celebrate with my team after a few long weeks of work, and to be honest, we didn't expect such an exceptional experience. Mateo helped us with seating, and since we love the bar, we chose to sit there. Nina, our bartender, was outstanding--her cocktails were fantastic, and her service was impeccable. As for the food, it was simply unbelievable. Watching the chef personally check in with guests and ensure the kitchen ran like clockwork was a testament to the care and precision here. We went on a Saturday at noon, and there was plenty of open seating (they do take reservations if you'd prefer). It was not loud at all; it was fairly easy to hear each other. The staff were flexible when we asked to move to a different booth because the sun was beaming down on our faces. The food was fun and different! We liked the variety we were able to choose from, and had no problem finding something delicious. The drinks were quick and delicious, and the food came out much faster than we anticipated! Stopped by before heading to napa for brunch. We ordered bloody mary's (came with a bacon which was delicious), chicken and waffle and a hot roman pizza. The drink was ok, chicken waffle came with one waffle cut into 4 and a small piece of chicken (smaller than the size of 1/4 piece of waffle) and tasted ok. The hot roman was savory (because of the meats) sweet (had dashes of honey) and spicy (peppers). Interesting flavors. Total was $40ish/person. Ambiance was a bit dark. Service was decent. The Kale Salad This is a meal in itself. Yummy citrus dressing and lots of greens. Crispy Chicken Sandwich Crunchy with layers of slaw gives it a nice crunch. Highly recommend this dish. The alcohol list is extensive with mix drinks, a list of quality beers, mamosas and ciders. They have both indoor the outdoor seating. I thought the egg was bland and overly refrigerated- so I would pass on this for $7. For the entree, I had the shaking beef, which was flavorful and tender. We were craving fried chicken last week and it was too late to go to Tender Tenders. Thanks to Yelp, we were pointed to the State Room. We placed a single order (half a chicken) with a side of fries, and it was ready when we arrived. Chicken was exactly what we were looking for! Crispy, juicy, it met our craving. The cole slaw was fresh and not soggy. The fries were good, maybe a bit on the limp side, but that could have been due to the 15 minutes it took us to get home to eat them. We'll have to return for an eat-in meal. We haven't been here since The Tin Drum left, and it looked like a happening place. read more

We had the sticky ribs..DROOL!!YUMMY!The pot stickers are better than any of Marins Chinese restaurants.The issue is with the pizza and some of the entrees.Pizza is sun par and honestly tastes like a frozen pizza.The Korean Seol bowl was bland and this is inexcusable as Korean food is some of the most flavourfull.The shaking beef is another disappointment as shaking beef is another flavourful Asian dish.Come on stateroom, get the authentic recipe and truly celebrate Asian flavours.I find in Marin, Asain food is bastardized to suit bland palettes and this is such a shame. read more

Sat outside at the State Room on a nice afternoon. Not a lot of room out there, but it is nice to have the option. Service was very good and prompt. Unfortunately, we weren't impressed with our meals. We ordered the Sticky Pork Ribs small plate, State Room Burger with garlic fries and the Warm Brownie Sundae (it's GF!!) for dessert. The ribs tasted good, but could have been hotter. My leftovers were better than in the restaurant, but not a dish I would choose again. The fries were good, when the replacement order came out hot. The original order came out cold. Burger was made to order - rare. The dessert was the favorite. The brownie was hot and gooey. I would return for the brownie. read more

We came to State Room specifically for their outdoor, dog-friendly patio. We weren't able to make a reservation but did call ahead to let them know we were a large group coming for an outdoor table and the staff had a table ready for us. The patio was covered, and despite being on the sidewalk, felt very separated from the street in a good way. Other dogs were enjoying the patio as well, and the staff was very welcoming to furry friends, even offering our dog a milk bone. The food was tasty, though not outstanding. The burrata was large and fresh, but the pesto and tomato soubise could've been more flavorful, maybe with garlic. The bibimbop spicy pork bowl was a good size and had plenty of variety in its contents. However, the pork was a little fatty and not spicy at all. I was expecting a meat closer to bulgogi, as most bibimbap bowls have, but this inauthentic bowl was still tasty. The risotto was a little salty but yummy. The Hot Roman pizza (we removed the ham) was delicious. It had a nice chewy crust and was unexpectedly served with a side of pesto that was great for dipping the crust in. Overall, we had a great time at State Room. I'm not dying to return for the food, but I do recommend the space for anyone looking for a restaurant with a nice outdoor area. read more

Ordered the stateroom burger with a veggie patty. I would say it was okay, the burger was small and the portion of fries I received was even smaller. Nothing memorable or particularly delicious about the meal unfortunately, but I was curious to try this place. The patty was good but the toppings were minimal and the veggie patty was on the drier side. I also expected a lot more burger options as I have heard that this place is known for their burgers. The service was also very slow, and the place was fairly empty when I arrived for an early lunch. The inside bar area is aesthetically pleasing but small, and I did enjoy the outdoor dog-friendly patio seating at the entrance of the restaurant. Overall experience was good, glad I gave it a try. This place might be better for their bar or a quick drink. read more

Beautiful. Came here for dinner. Wasn't super hungry so I figured I'd order small plates. Boy was I wrong! The sizes were massive and my dishes were good for 2 meals. I ordered the Caesar salad and the ribs. HUGE portions but both were so yummy. Unfortunately it's been at least 6 months since I've been here and finally finishing my review so I can't quite recall what I had to drink or additional details. But all in all I had a great meal here, so many leftovers, and a great time. 5/5, I'll definitely be back. read more

This was our second time enjoying this spot. It's been pre-Covid and now so a broader spectrum of experience but both equally pleasant and worth sharing my two cents. Last time we took the train, putzed up and down 4th area and grabbed food and drinks here and it was delicious. We had the breakfast pizza on gf crust and the calamari last time. Both were super delicious. I remember enjoying thoroughly without complaint or issue. This time we were hungry and tired after a good hike so we were ready for a celebration drink and some food. I don't drink beer but their cocktails, wine list is solid. My guy was happy there was a double on tap. He got down on the burger and fries and I got the Seoul bipmap bowl which was delicious! I am sure 8+ miles on the trails and pure exhaustion worked in their favor but service was on point and so was the food. I'd be here more if I was closer. read more

Came here as a back up dinner date when my boyfriend and I couldn't make it into Hog Island since they had a private event going on. So glad we stumbled upon State Room! It's a cute little restaurant bar that I would recommend to people who are in for a chill night out with friends or going on a first date (or a dinner date for couples like us!). Service was smooth and staff were so nice (we changed one of our orders last minute and they were super accommodating and friendly). My boyfriend got the La Guera drink and I got the Streetfighter - these were nice and strong and kicked us up into a good mood after feeling a bit annoyed about our initial dinner plans. We got oysters (DELICIOUS AND AFFORDABLE DURING HAPPY HOUR!), the bang bang calamari (ABSOLUTELY FIRE, SEASONED WELL), and shared a prime rib sandwich (TENDER AND JUICY). Love this place, but on 11/2 there was a very drunk guy at the bar who was ruining the ambiance. He kept falling out of his chair and hitting customers and waitresses. So just a tip for the bartender, don't over serve and consider removing drunk people from the restaurant for the sake of people just trying to have a nice time. read more

A visit to the city of San Rafael is always a pleasant experience. Considering I lived here from 1986-2001, a lot has changed throughout the downtown area. So after seeing what looks good in the area, I stumbled across "State Room". Located in the heart of downtown San Rafael on 4th St., this brewery/bar/kitchen in nestled right in between A & B St's. Parking can be quite challenging but not impossible since this is one of the quieter cities in the North Bay. I came here with my lady on the evening of Sunday 8/16/2020. We spent a good deal of time walking in San Francisco and my tummy was definitely craving some comfort food & beer. When we arrived, our only option was outdoor dining. It had been an unusually hot summer day but fortunately we were seated in the shade. The menu itself offers a huge beer, wine, and cocktail section while food offerings include small bites, salads, big plates, sandwiches, and wood-fired pizzas. After narrowing down what I want, I finally settled with their "Cubano Sandwich" with a mixed green salad (for $15). This sandwich consisted of braised pork, Tasso ham, pickles, swiss, spicy mustard, and Harissa aioli on pressed Ciabatta bread. I decided to get a side of "Garlic Fries" (for $9) and to wash it down, I chose an iced cold pint of their "Patriot Pilsner" (ABV 4.8%). Our waiter also gave us a pitcher of iced water which helped on the scorching hot day. My beer was brought out immediately and within 7-8 minutes, my fries and sandwich was delivered to my table. The fries were absolutely plentiful (which is a good thing considering these cost $9) but tasted excellent; definitely something you would enjoy at a San Francisco Giants game. As far as my Cubano sandwich, every bite was absolutely heavenly. The pork & ham were tender while the cheese, condiments, and produce all made this a savory experience. The bread was warm and soft which helped keep the meat intact without being too messy. I usually don't give five-star reviews on "pub food"; especially at a brewery. But this stuff was pretty damn tasty and my beer was on point as well. When you factor in the service, ambiance (which was only limited to outdoor dining due to COVID-19), and delicious mouth-watering food, its only appropriate to give this a high rating, a perfect five-stars!
