Kendall is schizophrenic. It oscillates between overpriced nonsense like Catalyst, chain faux luxury like Legal and ubiquitous Life Alive by Panera slop. But every so often the fog clears and it offers up something unique and interesting. Case in point - State Park. Walking in you might be inclined to think dive bar, with the low ceilings, wood panels and disordered decor. But actually sit down and order a drink and you see it manages class without flash. The cocktails are creative and well-made, the menu is kind of fancy Americana, biscuits, fries and wings, but also smoked trout and lamb. So, yeah, maybe also a bit confused. Part of what makes this place great besides the food and the vibe is the staff and the crowd. I've always had good interactions with the servers/bartenders, they seem to actually enjoy being there (what a concept). And on a Friday or Saturday nights it plays host to a random assortment of characters more interesting than Kendall deserves. Even better in summer when they take advantage of the strange little courtyard. read more

I had such a wonderful experience with the manager at State Park Bar, and I wanted to make sure he got the recognition he deserves. I called on Saturday, 7/18, hoping to buy a round of drinks for some friends who were there during what I could tell was an incredibly busy night. Despite how much was going on, he was so kind, patient, and helpful over the phone. He made me feel like my request mattered, and he went above and beyond by bringing the drinks out to my friends on a tray himself. It was such a thoughtful touch that made them feel really special and taken care of. He really took the time to provide such a personal and genuine level of service. Experiences like this are what make a place stand out. Thank you so much for making a small gesture feel like a big one!!! I truly appreciate it and hope he knows how much that kindness meant! read more

A really solid chicken katsu sandwich here, with fries that are a little floppy but still strangely addictive. Good supply of beers on tap, good menu of cocktails, and +1 star for having pinball tables. Kitchen is open until 11pm! read more

My husband and I tried State Park for the first time and absolutely loved it. The ambiance was casual and comfortable with lots of fun character (awesome hang out spot, also has pool table, a few classic arcade games and shuffleboard). The staff was friendly and super helpful, and efficient and attentive. And the food was AMAZING! We ordered the chicken katsu and a burger and ate every last bite. Delicious!! The fries are cut in house and you can tell. Crisp, hot and salty: perfect. We were so excited to find a new favorite place!! Truly can't wait to come back! read more

I have been here multiple times in groups of 3 or 4 for brunch-only. Service: very well-done with prompt wait staff for seating and getting orders. they were nice and accommodating and topping off coffees Food: the brunch list is primo - tacos are all incredible while my personal favorite are the kolaches (both the sweet and meat options). i literally followed this place for the brunch (which used to be done at another spot, same ownership group) Atmosphere: one section is a bar (a bit funky to sit for brunch) and there is also a side section with more sunlight that I like. Overall, middle of the road, not fancy. I will definitely be back for their brunch because I simply love their food! probably worth trying for dinner/bar vibes too read more

This has climbed to the top of my list of favorite bars in Boston!! Catch me coming here...like a lot. I came here for the first time on Saturday and holy moly I loved every minute. They've got a whole calendar of events ranging from people playing records during the week, vinyl dance night on Saturdays, and live music on certain days too. From the second we walked in I knew this was gonna be my fav spot. We walked in to a disco song playing, a disco ball hanging from the ceiling, strobe lights, disco music and beats all night long, vinyls spinning, life is good. It was so refreshing to see people truly dancing and enjoying themselves. Genuinely everyone having a good time. Will be back! read more

It's an average and overpriced bar of cambridge. Vibes are cool though, and the pool and shuffle board keep me there. Its also great for large groups. read more

Been here quite a few times now with friends. The vibes in this place are hard to beat. The lighting, the music, pool and shuffle board are reasons I keep coming back. Drinks are a bit on the pricier side. I had the State Park Fried Chicken once and it was okay. Service is also okay. read more

A surprisingly affordable brunch option in Kendall Square with quick service and relaxed ambiance. We came here as walk-ins at 12pm on a Saturday and were promptly seated outside. For food, we got: - Chicken torta: this was delicious. The chicken was tender and juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The sauces and toppings worked together perfectly to make each bite full of great flavors and textures. - Eggs, home fries, and beans plate: this was also delicious and also a medley of wonderful textures and flavors. The homefries were crispy, the beans were cooked to a thick sauce-like consistency, the eggs were fluffy and soft, and the tortillas were firm on the outside, yet still soft and chewy. This dish came with salsa and mayo on the side, as well as ketchup and hot sauce that we asked for. Put together in the tortillas, the flavors and textures were perfect. I only wish the portion sizes were more proportional. The portion of egg was very small, while the portions of homefries, beans, and mayo were very large. We ended up getting another side of eggs to have more equal bites in each tortilla, but I would have been fine paying a higher price for more eggs to begin with. Overall, the food here was delicious and great value for the price. They include a 20% fair wages fee on the bill already, so no tipping is necessary. I would definitely come again for brunch or to try out their late night bites and dinner! read more

I love the frozen margaritas here!! They usually have 2 slushy type cocktails on tap which they rotate out seasonally. My favorites are the painkiller and the blood orange margarita. Need to order food though if you want indoor seating. The chicken katsu sandwich is my favorite food item! Interior is pretty dark, and they have a jukebox and pool table. read more

This is a fun place to go on a Saturday night! Especially when they have the Soulelujah dance party with disco music - really great music and cool fun vibes on the dance floor! We initially got a table outside for dinner which was awesome because it was such a nice pleasant summer night. Plus inside and the bar area were packed. The shishito peppers starter was nice although I'm not sure about the pairing with the tangy salsa verde - ok in small amounts. I ordered the bluefish entree and the hubs ordered the fried chicken. They mistakenly brought out 2 bluefish dishes, but promptly corrected it and gave the hubs a bag of mesquite chips to eat while waiting for his dish. We asked if we could take home the extra dish and they complied readily, put it in a take out bag and brought it for us. Fish was very tender, flaky and paired well with the corn succotash, I left the bacon aside tho lol. Hubs liked his fried chicken - nice sweet and little spicy, very hot and super greasy but that comes with the territory. The watermelon quinoa salad was super fresh and perfect for a warm summer evening. Service was very friendly, our waiter was very pleasant and other staff were helpful too. Ambience was nice especially outside. Overall great experience, good food, music and dancing. We'll be back for sure. read more

This place is pretty awesome! I'm from Houston and for the most part, gulf oysters suck. These on the other hand were amazing. Even my friend who doesn't typically like raw oysters loved them. This is a really cool bar. It's exactly what I want when getting drinks with friends. Pool, a Photo Booth, and other things I can't name lol. Ive gone here a few times and each time has been great vibes. The three of us split fries, pretzels, and the pickled eggs. All of the food was so good and perfect to snack on. We got random drinks, but the menu has great options. Great place overall. read more

Went for brunch with a friend as we were looking for something relatively affordable. The breakfast tacos were delicious and a respectable size, would not recommend ordering more than 2 at a time. There are different varieties to choose from. The mimosa was weak and definitely not made with fresh juice like they claimed. The French toast sticks tasted like they just came out of the freezer. Service was friendly but overall cannot recommend this place. read more

I've been to State Park a few times now and recommend a visit, especially if you're seeing a movie at the nearby Landmark Cinema. Got the Chicken Katsu Sandwich and Crispy Fried Chickpeas. Would highly recommend the katsu sandwich. The chicken was super juicy and the pickles on the side were unique and not too sour/vinegary. The pickles were honestly my favorite part of the meal. The service was quick and they even brought the sandwich out in two pieces since we mentioned we were sharing. read more

Came here with my partner on a Friday night and my partner told the kind man at the front we were a party of 6 with 4 friends on the way and that the 2 of us would order food while the other 4 would just be ordering drinks. We were seated quickly which I appreciate, and after a moment the waitress came to take our order. My partner asked what was on draft & she promptly acted as if he hadn't spoken. Maybe she misheard - it's a busy night right? She came back a few minutes later and we ordered a single beer and a burger. She then told us drinks had to be placed first and drinks alone - acting as if we were from an alien planet for trying both. No problem - so we put in what we could. She returned several minutes later where I asked for my burger - she then acted as if I hadn't mentioned the burger before, directly asked me if I had spoken to a separate server, complete with an eye roll. While fiddling with my silverware, I unfortunately also found a dead bug wrapped in with it. She then left to talk to the nice gentleman by the door, and both came over asking to move us in order to seat a larger party that was to have dinner, likely since our additional 4 had not yet arrived, despite us explaining the situation at the door beforehand. They weren't clear, but the move also seemed based on us not having food, despite us also ordering the burger (it hadn't come yet, due to the delays). I genuinely didn't mind the request to try to make all parties happy, but it wasn't until after I initially agreed, that I saw various college students around us, only drinks in sight while they played card games & relaxed. Happy for the students - but why ask us two specifically to move if others also didn't have food and seemed to have already completed most of their night while we had just arrived? I hope this server just had a bad night, but based on several other reviews, it looks like a repeat problem which points to a larger managerial/establishment issue. I hope it had nothing to do with us being a gay couple holding hands, and hope it had nothing to do with our skin darker than the other clientele, but this overt, continuously strange treatment deeply disturbed my partner and then myself. Perhaps some subconscious bias training would be helpful. If you want a non-hostile night, I unfortunately suggest avoiding this location, especially if you match my & my partner's description. read more

This place is the worst club. So crowded and full of people that don't shower. So gross. I will never go back.

Went for a birthday dinner and drinks a few weeks ago. The food menu was interesting, I think there's some interesting stuff but not for everyone. I got the cheeseburger which was good and the fries were really tasty. My friend got the mac and cheese which looked awesome. Also had an espresso martini which was nice and dark, not the creamy kind which some prefer. When drinking at the bar they didn't really have menus around so it was sometimes hard to know what to order. They don't have a lot of the standard beers and seltzers which can be a bit of a bummer if you don't want to drink cocktails or need an easy choice. The decor was fun and funky and I liked that they had pool table to play as well. read more

This is one of my favorite spots ever. It's reliable, the fried chicken slaps, it's a great vibe. HOWEVER, my favorite cocktail in the whole greater Boston area, the frozen Saturn, which I've come to rely on to boost my mood and enhance my entire life, is suddenly gone from the menu. I've been coming for years and the sudden departure has left me bereft. This review is a placeholder for a five star review when my beloved has been restored. Thank you, I'm crushed, and goodnight. P.S. I don't even have a photo to attach because I love this place so much and am so relaxed and at home here with my frozen Saturn that I never even think to pick up my phone. Until now. read more

Note: This review is from a DoorDash order BUT I had a very pleasant experience (otherwise I normally don't like to review restaurants based on delivery alone because so much is outside of their control). After having another restaurant cancel my delivery order at the last minute, I was famished and called in an order at to State Park since they were still open. Their menu is a bit varied in a way that seems inconsistent with the more divey vibe inside, but it works. The Katsu chicken burger was delicious, with crispy skin and honestly, it was not terribly unlike what I've had in Japan. The fries were thin but crispy and really good. Altogether, a super enjoyable and quick mean. I look forward to returning to State Park, next time probably to dine in! read more

Had a blast here on a Sunday night. Not too crowded but I hear it's much busier normally. I really like the live music and the pinball! I ordered a coke, because they don't carry root beer, and for $2.67 before tip, I got the flattest coke I've ever had fresh from the tap. Please get more non alcoholic options! For some reason I think root beer floats would do really well here. read more

State Park - Attack from Mars is one of their pinball games. They have two - New American Near Me - Cambridge, Massachusetts

State Park is a hidden gem in Cambridge! It has that true local neighborhood feel. It can get very busy on the weekends. It is a very laid back atmosphere. They have a pool table, shuffleboard, pinball machines and even a photo booth. I absolutely love the atmosphere here and it is a great place to meet up with friends and play a few games, grab some amazing food and drinks. Their fried chicken is hands down some of the best I've had in Boston. The chicken is cooked to perfection. So crunchy on the outside and absolutely tender and juicy on the inside. The outer coating has a honey Tabasco glaze that just adds just the right amount of spice that sets it apart from your everyday friend chicken. It comes will collard greens which any southern chef would be proud of. The chicken katsu sandwich is another must try! Again, the chicken is cooked to perfection. They bread is so soft and perfect for the sandwich. One night as a special they had truffled fries and were truly to die for. I wish they would add them to their daily menu! :( As far as their drinks go they are all outstanding. My go to is the Vibes & Stuff, if you are into rum. It's a must try. They have a very unique drink called the state park cocktail which is miler high life with rye whiskey and amaro that is served in the high life bottle. It sounds a little strange but you absolutely have to give it a try! This seemingly simple combination is a winner. I was very apprehensive at first but I order it every time I come in! State park should be on everyone's radar if your looking for a great place that is laid back and has outstanding food and drinks. Every time I leave I cannot wait until my next trip in. read more

Great service at the outside tables early in the evening after a movie. Everything was great, with the tempura onions and cherry pies as highlights: Tempura fried spring onions. I'd just had onion rings at lunch and yet this didn't feel repetitive because it's on a whole nother level. Light, crispy, punched up a notch with the onion powder. Great with the sauce that comes with it (remoulade? I forget the menu description) but even better with a side of green goddess. I used it for the fries that came with my sandwich, too. Fried cherry hand pies: my wife isn't a huge pie fan because she doesn't like crust, and yet she loved these as much as I did - they're that good. Pistachio ice cream is the perfect thing to serve with them. Everything else was 4/5 - great with minor quibbles, like the Alabama white sauce (which I'm familiar with and have had at its birthplace) on the soft shell crab sandwich not seeming very flavorful, or the bushwacker melting quickly (like I said, minor: we were outside in June, it happens. But maybe an insulated or frozen glass for frozen cocktails would mean 5/5). read more

My boyfriend and I ordered their Nashville hot chicken and a hot chicken sandwich one night earlier in December. It was spicy, but not too spicy. The chicken was crispy on the outside and moist inside, so I was pretty happy with the texture of it. The sandwich was just okay. It didn't offer much but took away flavor from the chicken, in my opinion. It doesn't look outwardly appetizing, which could be a result of delivery. The side order of greens we got were not tasty at all. Using kale for "collard greens" doesn't really seem like the move. read more

This is a really neat spot. Good vibes, good, and drink! I had the Chicken Katsu Sandwich. I thought it was delicious - juicy, fresh, and innovative. Everyone at the table enjoyed their cocktails. After dinner, we played some shuffleboard which was a lot of fun. They also had a pool table, photo booth, and jute box. Narragansett cans were $4, you seriously can't get any better than that. Bar area was a great vibe - nothing pretentious, just some good people hanging out. Highly recommend this spot for dinner, drinks, or both! read more

Good beer selection. Otherwise a mess, too dirty and noisy even considering it's a pub, with mediocre food. Service is usually good.

BEWARE: a 20% Fair Wage Surcharge is automatically applied to every order. Per State Parks Website, this fee is shared between the front of house employees, as well as the kitchen staff.
