My partner and I wanted to get away for the weekend, so we choose to go to Saugatuck. So, I stumbled upon Starlite Resort on Booking.com. Since we had a far drive to the location, I reached out to the staff via Booking's messenger. The communication between the staff and I was beyond easy and seamless, on top they were very accommodating. Once we arrived, we checked in, which the staff was beyond sweet and helpful, great hospitality. The resort is in a prime location, extremely easy and quick to get to the downtown area, state parks, and the interstate highways - cannot complain. The room was cozy but a tiny bit dirty, I did find hair in the shower and on sheets at arrival. When we arrived at the room, we had a small roll of toilet paper but the next day the housekeeper made sure to leave two new rolls. The bed was comfortable and there was no noise, the walls are thick. The one thing I did not like, when we left the windows and doors closed but when we returned the cleaning left a window open, that is a big no for me. It pleasant they offer complimentary breakfast, but it is not your average breakfast of bacon, eggs, potatoes, and toast. Overall, we did enjoy our stay and how seamless the process was to check in and out. I would recommend this place to those visiting the area for the weekend. read more

I'll amend they do have EV charging stations for all the travelers . This place was very clean and up to date. They offer a coffee and muffin continental breakfast . The staff were friendly and helpful Small coffee maker in room Ice vending and vending machines on the property. They have a WiFi code to use Located conveniently off the highway. There are Resturant's and coffee shops near by. The towns Douglas and Saugatuck are nearby and lovely. Excellent first time weekend stay in Starlite Resort. The motel is sparkling clean, air conditioning is working well, rooms are very quiet despite the proximity to the road. Very nice and clean swimming pool and hot tub, several fire pits and a very nice grill. The breakfast is basic but acceptable and there is a coffee maker and a small refrigerator in the room. Very nice and very clean bathroom with good water pressure. The staff at the front desk are very friendly and helpful. In summary, very nice, " old fashioned " motel .We will be back ! read more

The Starlite Resort is a wonderful place to stay for trips into Saugatuck and Douglas. The rooms and grounds are super clean, the grounds spacious and well-maintained. The pool has plenty of chairs and towels. Despite the motel being full when we were there it was very quiet and we heard no highway noise. The breakfast room was bright and pleasant, offering some cold cereals, bread, sweet rolls and beverages. A 2-3-minute walk down the highway is Pennyroyal that has outstanding breakfast, lunch and dinner. A word about a great employee, Rachel in housekeeping. We left a tote bag behind and after notifying us of that fact and discovering we were halfway across the state she put it in a box and shipped it to us, all in good cheer, going above and beyond. read more

Clean, small, just smile from downtown Saugatuck. There are bonfire pits if you'd like to purchase wood, the parking lot was well lit and I felt we had all of the needed amenities: microwave, mini fridge, tv. Super easy booking process online. This place is simple and that's not a bad thing! The check-in process took less than 1 minute and we were in our room shortly after that. Although there are comments that the rooms are not as big, we feel ours was a very great size. Continental breakfast is appreciated especially to hold you over for a bigger breakfast. This is the perfect stay in Saugatuck if you need to get away for a quick reset, alone or with friends. They have quiet grounds with a fire pit, pool, hot tub, swing, and greenery. We absolutely loved this hidden gem. It's also within close proximity to everything on your to do list in the area. The room was spacious and impeccably clean. They are also dog friendly, which is a big plus, and free parking. Yay! We had the pleasure of meeting the delightful owner and his lovely daughter, who were super helpful. This might be my new favorite place to stay. As advertised it is an old motor inn that has been redone. Very nicely redone. Large rooms that are nicely decorated with thought given to the needs and comfort of the guests. My wife is very critical of hotels and she had nothing but good things to say. They have preserved the old school charm and added modern conveniences/necessities like very fast wifi, large flat screen TV, EV charging, even lamps with AC and USB outlets at the base of all 4 lamps. It is located 5 minutes away from town and on a large spacious property with outdoor grills, picnic table, yard games, a pool and hot tub. It felt more like a campground than a hotel with your room being your camper and your car literally 2 steps away. Room was very clean and we felt very safe and relaxed. Highly recommended. The owner Walt and his team are all very active and attentive to the needs of the guests. Thank you Starlite team for such an enjoyable stay. read more

PLEASE READ: I'm not prone to taking the time to write reviews, especially negative ones, but I felt compelled to let people interested in staying at the Starlite Resort in Saugatuck, Michigan to hear about our experience. We had made a reservation over the phone in August for a three night stay beginning September 14, 2022. I informed the woman on the phone that we were bringing our service dog. The online listing said that they were dog friendly. My wife and I checked into the Starlite about 4:00pm on September 14, 2022. Upon arriving we went to the office and were greeted by Walt, who stated that he and his daughter ran the motel. He was wearing a shirt and hat that said NAVY. As we always try to do, we thanked him for his service. He then proceeded to spend about 15 minutes telling us about his military service and about his business successes after he left the military. He let us emphatically know that there was no food and drink allowed at the pool. He went on to tell us that he watches people on the camera to make sure they are abiding by the rules. This seemed a little excessive, but we brushed it off. After dinner that evening, we decided to go out to the hot tub. We brought our 6lb., 12 year old toy poodle to sit with us by the edge of the hot tub. I have been a veterinarian for 41 years and have trained her to be by my wife's side as much as possible. After about 15 minutes of relaxation, Walt entered the pool area screaming at us that dogs weren't allowed by the pool and that we had disobeyed the signs. I explained that it was dark out and that we didn't see any of the signs. On examination they were not lit. I apologized profusely and said we were not trying to break any rules, but that we didn't see the signs. I didn't play the service dog card, which by law allows her to be with my wife at all times. He continued to aggressively raise his voice as if we were children. He said hurry, get out of the hot tub. We retreated to our room. Needless to say, we were very concerned about Walt's extremely rude and erratic behavior. Even though our room was very musty, and had a mildew odor, we decided to stay the night and chalk up the experience to someone having a bad day. The next day around noon, my wife took out our dog to relieve herself. Again, after a few minutes, Walt aggressively started to scream at her that the dog must be on a leash. She came back to the room shaking. I went outside to ask Walt why he was so angry and rude. He said that big dogs attack little ones and that she needed to be on a leash. Our dog is trained to stay right by my wife's side. I told him as a veterinarian of 41 years I was well aware of the risks. I calmly explained to him that this is no way to treat people in a service business and that we were going to check out. He said go ahead, but since it was a little after 12pm and that checkout time was 11am, that we would have to pay for a full day. What was interesting was that the housekeeper was 2 doors down from our room and hadn't been there to make uo the room anyway. We couldn't wait to leave. I have never in my 66 years been treated this way. Walt yelled at us like children. We received one day credit but were charged a full day for leaving at 12:45pm. If you want a relaxing time in Saugatuck, I would hope there are other places to stay where you aren't made to feel threatened. read more

This is a cute motel with a heated swimming pool and a jacuzzi. The double queen bed room was nice and equipped with Sleep Number beds, a microwave, a 32" flat screen TV, a coffee maker and a refrigerator. They even provided makeup remover towelettes in the bathroom. However, one of the remotes for the Sleep Number beds was very dirty (see picture) and the AC was getting louder in the middle of the night that it woke me up several times. I know July is considered a very busy month for a small town like Saugatuck with not many hotels to choose from. But for $179 (before taxes) on a Tuesday night is definitely way too overpriced. For $10 more ($189/night) I got a much better room at a Holiday Inn Express in Wisconsin Dells the following week. read more

This place was worth it! We came on a whim with less than a day of planning over a holiday weekend. It was a little pricey, yet still way cheaper than other places nearby. The two guys who seem to run this place appear to really care about their operation and customers. All of our interactions with the front desk people were great. The two guys up front were super nice and always pleasant to deal with. They even hooked it up with a free toothbrush because I forgot mine. Couldn't ask for better customer service here. The place looked like it has been renovated and really upgraded. You may not think it from looking at this place on a map, but this place has some nice amenities: several BBQs available for use, pool open late (with a great ambiance), and free continental breakfast. Also, the rooms are cozy and very well kept. They even doubled down on some stylish furniture and interior design. Bravo fellas. Finally, last but not least, the shower. The shower was a perfectly executed work of craftsmanship. It was honestly the first stone/tile shower design I had used that felt like whoever built it knew what they were doing. The pressure and level of water flow was almost therapeutic. I didn't want to exit the shower. Overall these folks are running a tight ship. Keep up the good work! Very nice motel in great location. I just stayed one night but it was very clean and the bed was fantastic! I'm always nervous about beds as most are way too soft. This was a high quality bed as were the linens, comfortably firm and cozy. Had a great night's sleep. It's an old timey motel that has been rehabbed. YOU MUST STAY HERE! We needed a place to stay & found this little motel. I was skeptical being that it's a motel vs a hotel, but gave it a shot. This is a perfect example of "don't judge a book by its cover"! The owners have taken this property & completely revamped it. New flooring, beds, showers with real decorative tile, & CLEAN! The grounds are beautiful, complete with a HEATED pool, hot tub, all new patio furniture, yard games, volleyball net, and the property is shaded, tucked back off the road in a wooded area. Breakfast is served for FREE complete with coffee, cereal, oatmeal, danishes, & bagels. What else could you want?! Five star, all the way!! read more

The new owners have done a great job bringing back a classic 1950s roadside motor court and transforming it into fun, retro, comfortable modern lodging. Rooms are spacious, clean, and updated. Plenty of desk space (which I appreciate), and you don't have to hunt behind furniture to find electrical outlets. Wi-fi service was good. Bathrooms have large vanities. Staff are friendly and accommodating. My only complain is about the awful Sleep Number beds. These things are a gimmick, they're uncomfortable, and (at least in my room) the controls didn't work properly. I would dock them one star, maybe two, for this (I mean, a comfortable night's sleep is one of the main reasons you choose a hotel), except the managers assured me that those beds are in the process of being replaced. Spent three days here in August. The grounds and pool area were beautiful, the area North of town was quiet and secluded and the decoration was 1950s in a good way. Downsides were numerous. We stayed in room 19 and the carpet and room were constantly wet and damp, rarely got bathroom items like towels and shampoo replenished, the breakfasts were boring, and for the price, simply not work the high rates. The Wi-Fi coverage was worthless and if you have Verizon service, be prepared to forget about your devices while staying here. read more

Simple and clean...I want to come back ;) While traveling home from Niagra Falls we ran upon this retro inspired motel / resort. We are thrilled ... the staff at the desk are awesome, truly helpful, friendly and informative. The accommodations are wonderful. We just stayed at a 5 star hotel in Niagra Falls...and truth be told. I would rather be here at the Starlite Resort. It has a sleep number bed, a frig, microwave, desk, luggage holders and best of all CHARGING PORTS for our phones! It looks, feels and smells clean. You can even open the windows if you want to hear the crickets ;) . We pulled our car right up to the door and unloaded...check out the chairs. I am definitly going to enjoy some porch time. Oh yeah...they have a really nice pool. What a gem of a place! And the price was very good comparing to other hotels. read more

Really awesome retro Motel. Tons of sea foam green and creamsicle orange--so cool. Love the Mid Century Modern feel and the rooms are big and were immaculate. Breakfast was great and they now have waffles--delicious. The pool area is awesome and the cabanas are a great touch. Lots of lawn games too including volleyball. We stayed at Starlite "Resort" and while there are good parts - there are definitely some concerns. Go here with eyes wide open - calling it a resort is a bit much - it is a hotel with some perks PROS 1. The pool - very nice but also goes from 4 ft to 8 ft pretty quickly. Hot tub was okay 2. Location - very close to fire station (across the street) and about 5 minutes from town 3. Decor - people like the retro style but other things are not retro such as the flat screen tv, it's a pretty big room and the bathroom is updated. 4. Sleep Number bed - we could not figure out how to get the beds to work - but if you get a good one with a remote that works - you should be okay. 5. Easy to find - the large orange sign really sticks out when you are coming back in evening CONS 1. Breakfast - small and definitely not a hot breakfast Mostly certeal, bread and fruit. 2. Noise/Support - nothing you can do if someone is being loud after about 9pm since the front desk closes and pressing zero leads to a recording. There were people playing music around 1am when we were there and had no recourse with out getting into an argument. 3. Price - over $200 a night seems hefty even in the main season 4. Payment - I reserved 1/2 of our stay on my card - but it was stuck in pending status and showed up twice. I was told we need to work with my bank and had to pay again. Not sure where the mess up was - but I did not feel like they were taking me seriously since I showed them where it is pending. There was not an email sent out. Overall I would think there are better places to stay and probably would not go back. read more

FIRST... go to their website to book. It is about 20 bucks cheaper that way... over the "travel sites". EXCELLENT mid-century get-away with modern updates. Water pressure is the best I have ever had in a hotel of any kind. Convenient to Saugatuck and Douglas. If you go to Saugatuck in the "back door" (from the north of town) you save several minutes and avoid the traffic. Took us 4 minutes to get from "Star of Saugatuck" docks to the hotel by heading north. Nice pool and hot tub, both of which were open in Mid-September. A clean, well laid out "breakfast bar" in what used to be a room. Plentiful ICE too...and they were full the whole weekend and the ice maker was never out of ice or even low. Good value too.. and a fun place to stay. About 30 rooms on a large lot... so no one was close or crowded. Picnic tables, fire pit, cabanas at the pool too. A half mile north is a gas station and convenience store... but soda and candy bars are cheaper in the machines at the hotel.. a buck each. read more

This was an absolutely charming mid-century remodeled motel. It offers a clean, cheery room with orange chairs outside each door overlooking the clean pool. It also offered a number of fire pit areas for your family or group to enjoy. Also, had picnic tables, yard games and a cabana. The staff was comfortable and friendly. Just had a great stay at the Star Lite Resort. Our room was very clean and comfortable, and it was equipped with a microwave, fridge and coffee maker. There is a nice lawn with horseshoes, hammocks (in shade), grill and picnic tables. There is a pool that my kids didn't want to get out of. They have a continental breakfast included which is great! The staff was all really friendly and helpful and truly seemed to enjoy their job. Will definitely be going back! read more

I was encouraged by the reviews of this hotel, as well as being referred to it by another hotel in town that was strongly recommended by a friend. Unfortunately, based on my experience, the one Yelp review that takes pictures of cruddy remotes and icky outlets was most consistent with our experience of Starlite. In our room: -There was something smeared/splattered on the bathroom wall. -The sleep number bed remote would not even turn on so it was not adjustable at all. -The light switch in the bathroom did not stay in place; you had to hold it in place to keep the light on. -My husband, who generally does not even think about this sort of thing, complained that the soap, shampoo and conditioner provided were all basically the same soap. "It was like putting soap in my hair." -The shower was nice and clean and the towels were good. -The sheets on the bed were ok/average. We would not have taken the time to give a negative review, but my husband and I were pushed over the edge when we were scolded by a manager for not, "following rules that we had been asked previously to follow." Huh? See, it is a dog-friendly hotel. There was a nice grassy area across the parking lot for our little Labradoodle puppy to run and get out some energy. Because there was absolutely no one around, we let her off leash to fetch her ball fully intending to put her on leash once a car pulled in or someone exited their room. Some people are afraid of dogs and we respect that. But the owner/manager came out clearly on a mission and told us we needed to have her on a leash at all times. That's fair enough and not an issue. What was an issue is when he continued by scolding us saying we had been told to do so previously on another occasion by his front desk person implying that we were pushing it and wearing out our welcome. Well, that simply was not true. We had never been told this by anyone, seen it on any sign or made aware of it when we made our pet deposit. We were happy to comply and did not appreciate the hostility. We would not recommend Starlite. read more
