Old Harbor Inn was the perfect spot to stay for a weekend getaway. My room was early ready once I arrived, which was great after a road trip in. Additionally, Old Harbor Inn was right in the heart of shops, and all things downtown South Haven. I took many walks down to the lighthouse easily. Finally, service and staff were super friendly, while also helping me ship items accidentally left after I checked out. I will definitely opt for Old Harbor Inn again for my next trip! read more

The staff was friendly; the room was clean and incredibly comfortable. The only problem was that the sliding door going onto the balcony didn't have enough curtains to cover the whole window, so we felt a little exposed. For the price, this lace was fantastic. I highly recommend. read more

Wow they are really called "old" harbor inn for a reason. Serious emphasis on the word old. First time staying in the area and we wanted something central to town but also close to the beach, we decided on here. First off, there's only a few parking spots right outside the front of the hotel and they have signs that say "5 minutes only" on them. So good luck finding a parking spot and then lugging all of your belongings to your room and then all the way back again when you check out. The specific room we stayed in was very old and outdated. Behind the night stands hadn't been vacuumed in a long time, doors had visible dirt and grime on them that had been there for who knows how long. Our bed not only had a stained comforter but also matching stained sheets as well! Gross. We had a very mini balcony with a door that was letting in a ton of light, along with the window facing the street. So while we were trying to sleep early in the morning, the room was being flooded with light. We could also hear every single car and person that walked by outside of our room. I can honestly say that I will never return to this place. For $300 a night I would be willing to stay at a much nicer hotel, further away from the beach/city center. Rating them 2 stars is me being very, very generous. Avoid at all costs! read more

My boyfriend and I, have been coming to the Old Harbor Inn for the past three years. Before discovering this place, we loved South Haven and it's charm, bars and even the FIPS. We usually stayed at a bed and breakfast just south of town but getting an Uber or taxi after leaving Black River Tavern at 2am can be difficult. That's when we discovered this gem. Despite its location, we were surprised to discover how affordable it was compared to other hotels in the area. Depending on your budget, they have different rooms available with similar layouts and amenities. All of the rooms and bathrooms look like they've been renovated within the past decade, so you'll be comfortable sleeping in on those rainy days. We'll usually visit the Old Harbor Inn at least twice a year and every time has been stellar. The staff are always eager to provide suggestions on things to do in the area or help out if you have a question about the room. Also also also, if you visit during the off season (September-April), the city will provide you with a $50 gift card to use at any of the nearby restaurants. Keep in mind, when you decide to stay here, you won't need a car. Period. There's free parking a couple blocks away, and it's a safe area. The inn is centrally located and less than a mile away from all of the bars, restaurants and beaches. There's even a wine tasting room ATTACHED to building. Like, come ON. My only added suggestion is to book early, because this place has the tenancy to fill up quick during the Summer months. read more

We were extremely disappointed in our room #19. The couch, which was a cheap vinyl or incredibly old leather that was crumbling apart. I mentioned it to the front desk (and showed them a picture) at check out and was told that the rooms are individually owned, and he would let the owner know. Also, the bathroom needed a lot of work. I held off on writing my review as I wanted to give the Inn an opportunity to make things right. However, after several weeks they of no response it is clear that they have no interest in doing so. Harbor Grande, the good- nice views The bad- The first night of our stay was pretty terrible. Aside from the room itself just being rather underwhelming, especially for $200/night, the ammenities didn't seem to match many of the photos I saw online. The worst parts of it were that 1. Due to what I assume was a mix up at the front desk, on two occassions someone had the key to our room and let themselves in. Once was a family that opened the door on my girlfriend while she was undressed 2. The cable went out shortly after we got settled in. It was December. The plan was to get away and enjoy the room. Except now we have nothing to watch and the TVs look about 15 years old, so no streaming services either. Just us huddled around our phone watching Netflix. 3. Toilet wasn't flushing properly (I had to use the coffee pot to fill the tank for it to flush), some bulbs were burnt out, pancake-flat pillows, room wasn't completely clean on arrival, etc. 4. No couch, just a loveseat. Hope you aren't planning on bringing the kids. We didn't even get a full couch as advertised online. Aside from the jacuzzi, this is a $70...maybe $80/night room at best that they are basically robbing people at $200 a night for. Fortunately, due to the cable issue, we were able to relocate to another room for our second night. This room was also a "Harbor Grande". Same price but a completely different experience. Larger, cleaner, separate bedroom, and full couch. THIS was a room worth the price. So I reached out to the Inn and explained my dissatisfaction with our first night. I requested a refund, not for the entirety of our stay but only for the first night. This was several weeks ago at this point and I have gotten no response. No call, no email, nothing. read more

Absolutely LOVED this hotel. We came in same day and were shown both rooms available. Staff had no problem showing us. We chose the room facing the river, right next to the riverboat restaurant. We actually enjoyed all of the noise and commotion. The room looked like a boat and having the water outside the window really gave us the boat experience. The decor was gorgeous, very spacious, huge tv and comfy bed. It had a microwave & fridge along with table settings, glasses & plenty of coffee. The couch was an excellent spot to hang out on. We enjoyed sitting by the window playing cards and watching the party people on the riverboat. The air conditioner worked great, although we shut it off and enjoyed good old fashioned fresh air. Next time I'm in south haven if we don't try a B&B for the first time this will be our go to! Everything about this hotel was great, and the location was perfect! read more

I've been to this location five times over the last 18 years. It has began falling into disrepair and service is 100%serve yourself. No ice, vending, or cold beverages, even water anywhere near the $465/night rooms, no room service, the restraints below won't even sell you water or soda to take to your room. If you stay during the summer know that 80% of the rooms are over bars that rock it out till 2AM followed by another hour of the bar close crowd screaming in the street. Not a police car seen the entire time here. Room had not been properly cleaned, items left from previous guests (animal food water dishes under bed, and TV was maybe a 30"? WAY OVER PRICED and under maintained. Just feels like the owners gave up. read more

We stayed here for our anniversary last weekend and had a great time. Walking distance to everything and not that noisy. I suspect that if you were to go in the middle of the summer it would be a lot louder but we didn't have an issue. The room was nicer than we expected and the jacuzzi was fantastic. Bed was comfy. Eight girls from Chicago traveling to New Haven, Michigan for a bachelorette party, two hotel rooms, and only one knows the name of the town is actually SOUTH Haven... what can go wrong there? Bride: We're here! Maid of Honor: What's that smell?? Bridesmaid #1: That's pine tree, idiot. MOH: It smells like Christmas! Bridesmaid #2: They sell Christmas trees in New Haven?? BM #1: God... No. There's just pine trees around... they grow in non-concrete locations...it's called vegetation. BM #2: Oh right. Well I still feel like I'm in a little Christmas village. It's so cute here! You think there are Christmas shops that sell decorations for these trees?? Bride: I hope they decorate these trees to look like Christmas trees in December! BM #1: Kill me... Once the literal high of fresh oxygen wore off, we were all settled in to our sweet little rooms, ready to paint New/South Haven red, blue and every other color we could find. This hotel is old school in a classic, very cute way. They give out REAL keys. Real keys! Which would have sucked if we had lost one (I'm genuinely shocked we didn't...) but added to the charm of staying in a quiet hotel in a quiet town. The rooms come furnished with a coffee maker, kitchenette sink, small refrigerator and boating knicknacks that I swear start talking around 4 a.m. after a dip in the pool and a crawl of the local bar scene. I believe there was a TV as well but it was never turned on. York's Landing is an indoor/outdoor restaurant/bar attached to the hotel and incredibly convenient. Serving up fresh, fried fish and cold beer, this little dive and pool hall destination was a perfect way to begin our evenings. The patio of York's leads out into the mini plaza filled with wine shops, t-shirt stores and a few other locations. On Saturday evening they had a festival going with a live band, which might have been annoying if we had wanted to sleep (the Inn posts signs about such noise, fyi), but it was a fabulously fun time. The staff is friendly and polite, even to us idiots from the city that don't know pine trees from Christmas trees... the only qualms we had were the pool, which did not look appealing, yet we took extremely late night/early swims in anyway, and the cobble stone hallways to the rooms. Dangerous. Loved it, loved everything about SH, and I will retire here one day. The owner John had the nerve to tell us "we were just thinking about you".... we gave your room away to a party who needed a few rooms. I called to book a room and the lady that answered was very helpful. We discussed my needs and she recommended a couple of rooms. She also made a point to make me aware of the noise from the bars that we will probably be hearing in certain rooms. Although it is pricey I have gone ahead and booked a room for the following weekend. After the stay..... The hotel is a bit dated but then again I'm not sure if a complete remodel would be warranted here. I think it would greatly detract from the charm of the place. I think a freshening up of the place would be a much better idea (new paint, carpet etc..). They have a small indoor pool and hot tub. Nothing special but it was nice to take a dip after the miles of walking we did. OHI has a very inventive layout with an overall feel of a small village rather than a hotel. We were in room 30 which is above the main bar/restaurant. We braced ourselves for the noise (based on other online reviews and the warning from the operator). Yes there was evening noise but it really wasn't that bad. I was expecting loud music from a band or DJ and instead we only heard the music from a single performer. It was really not a big deal and did not bother us in any way. I did not meet one staff member that had an attitude and they in fact did an outstanding job on the room cleaning when we were out and about. On to the room The room was huge. We had a VERY comfortable king sized bed. It was so good that I actually sprang out of bed which I never do (bad back). I woke up Sunday and for the first time in years I didn't have a single bit of back pain. I should give the place 5 stars just for that! Aside from the bed we had a sofa and love seat and a big screen tv with normal cable. It was nice to be able to flip channels as if I were home. The room also had a small coffee maker, microwave and a fridge. It had flatware, dishes and glasses which was really nice. Now we could actually take the leftovers from a restaurant back to the room. The bathroom was also large with a large vanity which gave us more than enough room in the morning. The only cons that I have for the place is really superficial. As I said earlier, the place could use a facelift. However, it is not enough to stop us from coming back. I gave it a pricey rating because it is $200 a night. However every place in town is at least $200 or more. You can find cheaper accommodations but they will not be in the downtown or near the water. So all in all I cannot complain with the price. read more

Rented a 2 BR, 2 Bath suite with another couple and were very impressed. Clean, comfortable, and well apportioned. The kitchenette was well stocked ... and the fridge in particular was big enough to hold bevies and a pizza box. The location is right downtown South Haven where there was a nice selection of restaurants, pubs to visit for the boys, and shops and nearby wineries for the girls. The staff was friendly and helpful, but we thought the maid cleaning the room next to us loudly claiming she got a $50 tip as we were taking bags out to the cars was both silly and unbelievable... and her tip from us was greatly reduced after she tried to hustle us. Kids these days... One word of warning... the walls are a little thin. Not "you can hear your neighbors having a normal conversation" thin... not that at all... But if you're going to go out to the bars, get in a fight, storm back to the room [repeatedly] screaming about how you're leaving cause you're miserable, and then loudly "make up" the next morning... just know that your neighbors will be ruthlessly ripping on you for the rest of the weekend. All in all, for the price point and the location we were quite happy and are already planning on going back. read more

My husband and I planned our anniversary weekend getaway here. That lasted only about 2 hours and we decided to try our luck elsewhere. We really wanted a water view, which was about the only thing that was as advertised. Our room was dirty, hadn't been dusted in weeks, there were foot prints on the doors and wall by the entrance. It did have a nice view that that really couldn't help but notice, especially because the door stop was broken and would automatically get stuck open. To top it all off the (hot) water in the whirlpool tub was rusty brown, not a little bit either. When we checked out the staff (a very nice middle age women) was apologetic and tried to get us to give them another shot. Sadly you only get 1 chance at a first impression. read more

Old Harbor Inn - Front entrance - Hotels Near Me - South Haven, Michigan

On the Lake Michigan coast, all things are relative. And we had a relatively great time for our two night stay. Now, we're not crazy. We know you have to be here for more than that to enjoy the beach and the shopping of this area, which we consider to stretch from super touristy St. Joseph to tourist-thoughtful Grand Haven. We met some friends at a rental house in Saugatuck for the rest of our week. But we did plenty in our 40 hours here, and the location and charm of the Old Harbor Inn had a lot to do with that. If you know anything about South Haven, you know it is walking friendly. And we got to walk everywhere. The room was not perfect, certainly, but for an "econo" room in the middle of everything in a beach town, it was more than worth the $179. I'll start with the negatives, because that's what everyone needs to know. Our A/C had an inconsistent fan, which my wife didn't like when she would come back from a sweaty trip out, but the room was plenty cool enough for me and my son. The bed was past its time. Comfy, but after the second night, my gimpy back hurt a little from it bending inward. The pool is small, which we were warned about: "You don't come here for the pool," I was told - but my son needed one for our first night and it was just fine for him. Parking can be challenging, as their own lot is a couple blocks away and underground. But if you are strategic and not driving to dinner or shopping in prime time, you can get a very good spot in the city's plentiful public parking. There is no free breakfast. The Web site is confusing, as cool as it was. We had to call to confirm there's a pool and we had a lot of trouble finding the correct virtual tour for our room, but it's there - make sure you call and check, because one set of photos is totally out of date. The final negative is they only have one caboose, the room we really wanted. But we loved being in a busy spot (some people call it noisy, but our room wasn't). We enjoyed the charm of a place that wasn't just a big modern box but actually sprawled through a fun shopping area. We loved walking everywhere. We loved how friendly and real everyone was. We loved that there was a real bar and grill next to the pool, even though we didn't use it. And we actually liked that no other room was exactly like our room, which had its own furniture (including a cool trundle bed and a reclining couch) and appliances. We'll be happy to stay in Room 20 next year. read more

My husband and I stayed the first week of September so the touristy season was pretty well over, so it almost seemed like we were the only residents at times. The room was spectacular with the exception of a very noisy bed frame. And no it wasn't just because we were getting 'busy', everytime you moved it creaked loudly. (Room 19, by the way) Otherwise, the room is nicely decorated in the lake theme, nice sofa, eating area, kitchenette and bath. We had a private balcony that was just heavenly to sit out over the harbor and watch the boats and marina activity. Would have been nice to have a tall table, as the chairs were tall ones, but we made do by using a cooler we brought with us. Sooo enjoyed sitting out there with the morning coffee! There is a nice boardwalk with some shops that was probably booming at one time, but now there are so many empty storefronts. And I don't think it was because of the end of the season, but I could be wrong. read more

Upon checking into the room I was really pleased to see the place clean and spacious, and it had a great hot tub! I'm writing this review at 4 am because yes... I'm still awake! Besides the fact your located directly above a bar, so room 5 nvr gets dark literally never and doesn't get quiet until around 1.. A small investment of room darkening shades would be a great thing for this room! Around 10 PM I tried calling front desk, which noone answered cause there's not anyone there past 8 or 9. Your are left on your own..oh and if you stay, bring drinks and/or snacks cause when your done walking for the day and finally get back to your room and have pj's on and want a drink.. your screwed..they have nothing here. The good thing was it was clean and the location. If you are not a fan of B&B, then you have very limited options on where to stay here in South Haven. The toliet seat was so old tho it was discolored, and bathroom mirror was beside the sink.. figure that one out when your trying to do hair. Oh.. and parking.. there is none here, so we spent over an hour driving around until we finally were able to find somewhere to park, and then walk 2 blocks to Old Harbor... read more

This place was very cute. We just spent a great weekend in South Haven. It's considered "off season" now, so the room was really affordable. The location is walking distance to downtown, the beach and obviously is on the harbor. The rooms are nice and big. We had a little kitchen, sitting area and balcony overlooking the harbor. The restaurant, The York, is more of a fun place to drink than eat. We did get some food, a shrimp and perch basket. It was pretty good. We noticed that almost every item on the menu is fried-so be for warned, no healthy eating here. Overall, it was a great place and great location to stay at. They are undergoing some construction/remodeling. So I would imagine it will be done in time for summer. read more

Recently stayed here for 3 nights in room 3. Found out it is separate from the main hotel. Room was clean except for the hair found on the bed sheets when I pulled it back. 2 queen beds in this room. One bed is ok but the other one is awful! It should be replaced immediately. Walls and door are paper thin so be prepared to hear your neighbor. Room Doors are not safe. Stairwell door to street is kept unlocked which isn't safe. This place is becoming a letdown especially for the price. Room is completely outdated. Only blinds on the windows and room never got dark. Will definitely pursue a bed and breakfast next time I make a quick trip to south haven. Only thing going for this place is its location. read more

Spent a 3-day weekend in a Harbor View room overlooking the Black River. What a romantic and charming place! The front desk told us that each room was privately owned and uniquely decorated. We spied the Harbor Grand rooms on the floor below - pretty luxurious-looking. The room was large (king-sized bed, sleeper couch, dinette, and kitchenette), newly remodeled (large flat screen mounted on the wall), and cozy. We had a cute juliet balcony, too. The Kal-Haven bicycle path was undergoing massive renovation (expansion, changing rooms, etc.), so we got a 30% discount to compensate for the torn up streets. Can't wait to check out this place during the peak season, as well as ride the new Kal-Haven trail. read more

I enjoyed my stay here, although it was only one night. It's a great location on the harbor and would be perfect for a girl's weekend especially in teh summer. Most rooms have balconies which is great for overlooking the harbor. Right in the middle of downtown and is walking distance to shops and restaurants, and the room we stayed in had a kitchenette which was a plus. Fun fact: there was a littler of kittens outside this hotel and I got to take one home. read more

The Old Harbor Inn has been a favorite of ours since we discovered it two decades ago, on our ten year anniversary. With the harbor setting, there is a distinct New England feel to the Inn and surroundings. Inside, each room has slightly different amenities (harbor view, street view, private balcony, shared balcony, hot tub, fireplace, etc) which in our minds adds to the charm of it. It is a bit pricey and no, the rooms are not modern, nor are they cookie cutter. If that is your cup-of-tea, I'm sure there are properties off of the Interstate that will suit you just fine but not in the heart of a small resort town like South Haven. However, the rooms are very comfortable in size and appointments. Shopping, restaurants and beach/lighthouse are all within walking distance. read more
