I would recommend staying most places over the Hampton Inn South Haven. We needed a place to crash just for the night, and unfortunately it was raining, so we ended up spending more time here than anticipated. The room smelled like mildew and just didn't seem clean. We checked out the pool, which was okay for an indoor hotel pool to kill some time. The location is near a very busy street with a great ice cream shop, but it is not close to the beach at all. They do offer free breakfast - the waffles were great, but stay away from the eggs. In a pinch, it worked for a night, but it was insanely overpriced, and I'd look for other places if there is a next time in South Haven. read more

There was an odd smell when we walked through the door. Our room is fine came with shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion in the bathroom (pump style not those free small travel sizes). There is a mini fridge, microwave, and coffee maker in the room. They do give free breakfast. Overall seems okay, the pool and hot tub are a bit dirty with particles inside the water like dead bugs. The gym area is small but there is a peloton there for use which is nice. read more

Wish I can give this hotel a zero! We came to South Haven to celebrate our daughter's birthday. We checked in around 11 pm and found a broken finger nail and hair on bed. We had just sanitized the entire room! When we called the front desk, they were so unapologetic and never even said a sorry. The staff were so casual and expected us to clean the bed and sleep. During these COVID times, we except the hotels to do their best to keep their guests safe. We decided to vacate the room and hotel staff cared less. Have been a Hilton Honors member for years and I am really sorry to say! Never again. If they cannot keep rooms clean in this environment, I can only imagine their house keeping skills during normal times. Stay away! Find a better place and your family safe from this dump. Not the best place to stay. The beds are very firm and uncomfortable. The doors are so heavy that neighbors shutting the next door can be heard very clearly. I don't feel like it's the cleanest yet we didn't experience anything terrible. We had the displeasure of being next to an extremely loud family during the last night of the stay and nothing was really done. Not coming back. read more

I am absolutely disgusted with my recent stay at Hampton Inn, South Haven. This was the dirtiest hotel I've ever stayed at and customer service was horrible. 1.The website says every room comes with fridge and microwave, learned at check-in that microwaves have to be requested and couldn't be delivered until the next day because the lady at the front desk was "the only person working" (odd, since she also said the hotel was completely booked so why would they only have one staff member?). 2.When we got to the room, carpet was dirty! There was grass, food, etc on the floor, it clearly had not been vacuumed. We asked if someone could come vacuum quickly. Again, we were told there was "only one person working" but she could switch us rooms. The room they offered was across from the elevator and extra noisy so we just asked if we could vacuum our current room ourselves. They gave us a vacuum but we had to go pick it up and drop it off. 3.Later we noticed the bathroom conditions, dirty floor, dirty tub (had several pieces of someone else's hair since we hadn't even used it yet!), the sink was leaking underneath the counter (causing slippery wet tile!). A staff member cleaned the bathroom on our first morning and said they would send maintenance when we were gone for the day but the sink was still leaking and the floor was all wet when we returned at night so that never was fixed. 4.There were bugs in the bathroom. 5.The towels that housekeeping replaced in the bathroom were DIRTY! 6.I reported all of this to a manager who was rude. She never once apologized for the conditions and inconvenience. She did not resolve anything except sending someone to clean the bathroom floor and tub the one morning. 7.One other thing which isn't as important as the filthy conditions and bad service was the general condition of the room, bathroom tile missing pieces, wallpaper is peeling off the wall, etc, needs updating). I will certainly never stay at this hotel again. read more

This hotel was a horrible experience. I wouldn't stay here again. Both my wife and I are disabled, we informed the reservationists and we requested a first floor king. When we got there we found out the elevator was broken. They didn't offer a discount, a different room or help getting things to the third floor. The elevator was down for entire three days. The room was ordinary, dated and small. The towels were dry and scratchy, the blinds didn't work well and the toilet paper was cheaper than gas station brands. We chose this hotel for the indoor pool, but it was old and needed resurfacing. The ceiling was also peeling. I'm not sure the pool was even heated, it was so cold we could barely stay in it. We used it once in three days. The location was right near the road and you could hear road noise all day. This was one of the most expensive hotels in town and they didn't meet our expectations. We won't be back! read more

Stayed here two weekends in a row. First time was great second time not so much. The second time we were forced to pay more for a room because it had a whirlpool which we really weren't interested in. It was the last room available. They should have charged us the same as they other rooms since we had no interest in that amenity. The whirlpool itself was shabby on the exterior and frankly we wouldn't have used it even if we wanted to. Because of the whirlpool the shower was the size of a small closet and not as nice as the shower in the standard room we had the weekend before. The shower had clearly not been cleaned and disinfected. There were stray short hairs on the walls of the shower which made it clear that it hadn't been touched between guests. It also made me question the cleanliness of the rest of the room too. The first time we stayed we were offered a free grab and go breakfast. The second time we stayed that was not provided. One positive is that the bed was actually more comfortable than the room we stayed in the weekend prior. Customer service is pretty good however on both weekends our card entry deactivated even though we didn't store it in pockets that would deactivate the cards. Fortunately cleaning staff were nearby to let us into our rooms. read more

I arrived to the front desk to check-in and started the check-in process. I noticed a city notice taped to the front desk stating there was a boil order in place and the water in the hotel was not safe to consume. I had to ask the front desk person about the notice. I don't think she would have even mentioned it unless I asked. The hotel should have contacted me before arrival to let me know that the order was in place. I came with an infant and my pregnant wife to stay at this hotel. Had I known the water was not safe I would have made alternative arrangements. There were no other notices around the hotel or in the room stating this boil order other than the 1 on the front counter. I was offered a single bottle of water by the front desk. That was of little help with 3 people for 3 days. I had to get my own case of water. When the boil order had been lifted there was no communication to us. I found out about it from the local news. The employees at this hotel didn't care one bit about protecting the health and safety of their guests. read more

The hotel location is great, as it's only 5 minutes to downtown, but while we were staying there, the outside of the hotel was under construction and a mess. The interior hallways were old and needed updating. Of all the Hampton Inns that we stayed it, this was easily the worst. We were booked in a room next to a young family with three very small children, so there was a lot of screaming at the kids and baby crying the entire time we were there. They stayed up late and got up early in the morning, and we heard it all. Maybe the hotel can keep better track of the types of families they put where and try to put other guests a good distance from said families. Considering the competition of hotels and b&bs, this particular Hampton Inn is greatly lacking. The free breakfast, thank goodness, was consistent and good like other Hampton Inns. The beds, pillows, spacious room and usual amenities were also consistent and good. read more

I was originally going to go camping in southwestern Michigan but that didn't end up working out so as I drove around to different hotels in South Haven, Michigan rather late this past Friday night, I ended up deciding to stay at the Hampton Inn. I was aghast to see the cost for one person to stay overnight was over $200 but since there really wasn't another choice that late at night, I had to fork over the dough. My family stays at Hampton Inns when we travel and I have had good experiences in the past but had not stayed at this location before. HOWEVER, think twice before you stay at this one...the room hadn't been cleaned well at all. There was hair and other disgusting things in the sink and there was a huge gob of hair affixed to the hair dryer that is provided in the bathroom. The shower head was moldy and I just was overall VERY DISAPPOINTED with the condition of the room. As I was looking over my checking account online, I see they overbilled me by thirty dollars for a grand total of $234. I would never stay here again; this is not a place that should be charging quite so much money for what they are able to offer. For this much $ I would expect A LOT MORE which they could never provide at this location anyway. I will be contacting their corporate office to see about this incorrect billing. YIKES. read more

This Hampton location gets five stars. Upon arrival I was checked in quickly. since I already picked my room online I knew exactly where to go. when I walked in the room was very clean. Appears to be recently renovated. bathroom was very clean with plenty of towels and toiletries. I was very happy to see offer DirecTV, so I don't have to figure out what my favorite channels are like in other hotels which only have a selection of 10 or 15 channels. Free hot buffet breakfast along with a wide variety of fruits, waffles bagels donuts toast cereal and other pastries. I would recommend this hotel when staying in Southhaven on your next visit. read more

The rooms are pretty typical for a Hampton Inn (clean, plenty of room to spread out, soft beds, overly large pillows, free wifi). Mary at the front desk was very professional and welcoming, plus the free cookies upon check-in are always nice. The breakfast in the morning was open before the hours posted and was nicely stocked, which is great for people who are up early for work. They also had a lot of grab bags available if you had to eat on the go. Just like most hotels, I found that noise carries quiet a bit from outside traffic, but this property is very clean and was well run during my visit here so I would stay here again the next time I'm in the area. read more

Ugh..... this place is gross. Parking lot has overflowing dumpsters & old furniture piled up. We had a view of the Aldi parking lot. The lobby and hallways were sweltering. The elevator was out. There was a hand scrawled note to " dial 0 for assistance" at the check in desk but there was no phone ( or even a bell) to summon check in assistance. Finally after several "hello.... is anyone here" a cranky woman came out and complained about a colleague not being there. The room was fair at best & the bathroom yucky. This hotel was able to leave a relatively bad impression in a short period of time. Checked in at 10pm and out by 7am, however my user experience was pretty poor for a Hampton. I stay at almost exclusively Hampton inns for work travel and usually everything is on par. This was different. TV didn't work, thermostat wouldn't go below 68F (wall mounted controller version), and the person that cut up the cantaloupe for the fresh fruit breakfast tray was either too lazy or too ignorant to know you have to scoop out the seeds first. However, the doors were paper thin and the person in the room next to us started playing their music around 6:15 and we could hear it perfectly. I stay at Hampton Inn hotels regularly for work. This one is very typical of what a Hampton Inn is all about. Staff was very friendly. My room was plenty big (king bed and a couch). Room was clean. Bed and pillows comfortable. The only negative is the in-room air conditioner which was loud - but, this is pretty typical for a Hampton. Free breakfast and free WiFi. HBO on TV which is nice. If you stay here, you have to visit Sherman's Ice Cream across the street - some of the best ice cream I've ever had. read more

There are plenty of other options and I suggest finding them. The management is not accommodating whatsoever. We intentionally CHOSE this hotel vs. other ones for the pool and hot tub despite reading reviews warning guests of bed bugs. We booked a reservation and arrived to find the hot tub not in service after paying. We mentioned that the only reason we were staying was due to the hot tub. We also asked if there were any accommodations that could be made, the manager told us to pay extra to upgrade our room. So now to have a jacuzzi tub in our room THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN OF FREE USE TO US in the pool area, we are having to pay more for a small tub in our room. Continental breakfast was not worth it- sleep in! Also- sketchy cars in the parking lot so make sure to park in well lit area or where you can see your car from your room if possible read more

Nice hotel. Sofa bed wasn't too comfortable but my daughter didn't mind. We were able to check in an hour early which was great since we had children with us. Breakfast was complimentary and was good. The thermostat in the living room area wasn't hard to operate so I thought the bedroom wouldn't be a problem. My rating is more of a 3.5, but they don't offer that option. Stayed three nights here last week while visiting family in town. We stay at Hampton Inns almost exclusively and we travel often - so we are used to their set up and style. On the positive side: The front desk staff was extremely friendly and accommodating when we checked in and throughout our stay. The room was clean and very well decorated I thought. The bed was soft and comfortable, the pillows clean and plush. All of the drawers in the room seemed to be pull out shelves and racks which was really nice. The headboard of the bed, something I've never even really noticed before, was a cool quilted like fabric and very nice. The bathroom door was a sliding barn style door that looked neat and was something a little different. I don't know about you, but the biggest thing that every hotel is judged on is its cleanliness and how 'safe' I feel in the bed - that there's no bugs or stains or filth. This room was very clean. Every day the cleaning staff came through and the room looked perfect. My daughters had stuffed animals they sleep with and when the beds were made their stuffed animals were always tucked into the bed all cutely and every day they really looked forward to seeing the set up. On the negative side: The walls of the room were very very thin. You could hear full conversation of your neighbors in the room. At one point, I was in the bathroom while my two children were watching tv on the beds - I heard a door open and an adult voice say "sorry, I thought this room had already checked out". So I came busting out of the bathroom to see who was with my children....only to find out this entire conversation was happening in the room next to us and didn't involve us at all! Super thin walls! The TV remote was pretty grimy. The only single thing in the room that wasn't spotless, so not too big of a deal. The remote was shockingly hard to work though, you had to aim the remote at the ceiling, not the tv itself, to try and change a channel. Weird. Took us a few days to figure that out. The bathroom didn't have an exhaust fan. So when you shower, you steam the whole place up, and if somebody stinks up the room....well....yeah. Speaking of the bathroom, remember that cool barn door I mentioned? You have to pay special attention and make sure you close it fully - past where you think it needs to go - and wait for it to click closed. Otherwise it slowly slowly rolls open on you while you're in the middle of doing your business on the toilet and too far away to reach the door and save yourself the embarrassment! There is no way to open the door "ajar". It's either all open, or all closed. We didn't use the pool, so I can't fully comment on it. We stopped by there on day one, saw that it was cloudy, murky, and you couldn't see the bottom of the pool through the haze. We chose to just skip it. Maybe it was better than appearances? All of those problems were no big deal though really. The biggest problem we had was with the breakfast. We have stayed at a great many Hampton Inns and we have a good dozen different stays booked through the end of this year at more Hampton Inns. We know the breakfast routine pretty well - they all seem to offer the same thing and have the same corporate set up. Usually breakfast is really good! We look forward to it. This stay however, we ended up using the McDonald's drive thru after daily small attempts at the breakfast. The food bins were always running low - the hot offerings and even the staples like the pastries. The orange juice was out for all 3 mornings we ate there and the water carafe perpetually empty. The coffee area was always missing something - no decaf, or the creamers all went missing. The layout of the breakfast bar is difficult and causes weird traffic patterns - the plates are not by the hot food where everyone goes first, they're behind the toaster area. The waffle machine uses throwaway cups for the batter, but the garbage can is located on the other side of the room so the empties stack up on the counter like goopy rejects. Speaking of the waffle machine, a lot of the space was dedicated to random waffle toppings and totally not utilized space - but the waffle iron itself was acting weird. Maybe it needed to be oiled? Myself (and all the other visitors I was watching out of curiosity) kept making waffles that split in half. When you open the waffle iron to remove your cooked waffle, half of the waffle would be stuck to the top griddle, and half stuck down into the bottom griddle. I have no idea what would cause that, but it happened to person after person. The syrup packets kept running out, but if you managed to snag one or two, they were always cold. So your thin, split in half waffle, is now topped with cold, refrigerator temp syrup. Really makes it unappealing. All said and down it was a good stay. We may be back in town again before the end of summer, and if so we will stay here agai read more

This is a very nice hotel. Everything was very clean and the beds/linens are very comfortable. The breakfast is free and good. Normally I would say this place was one of the cleanest hotels I've been to. However, what makes the Hampton Inn amazing is the salt water pool. If you have kids and they want to swim, this is the place to be. The pool isn't chemically smelling and non-eye burning. So if you're coming to South Haven this is a great place to stay. If you're coming with kids and they like swimming, this is the only place to stay. read more

Our family of three had a positive experience at this location. Staff at the front desk was friendly and helpful. They gave us some choice in which floor we would prefer, which it was nice having a first floor room with a toddler. The cleaning staff did a great job each morning making our room as fresh and well-stocked as our arrival. The bathtub appeared to be scrubbed daily, so our toddler could safely take a bath. The hot breakfast was varied each morning and tasted great. The waffles were awesome. The indoor pool was clean and warm. It was nice there were towels provided in the pool area. We enjoyed the evening complimentary cookies by the front desk as well. read more

This Hampton Inn is located right off the highway and convenient to the downtown, lighthouse and lake areas of South Haven. It is also close to Meijers and Wal-Mart and across from Sherman's Ice Cream, which is delish! There were some special touches in the room such as the folding the towels and placing the shower curtain in decorative ways. Wi-Fi is free, which is great. Staff very friendly, though I had to wait at times for someone to acknowledge me at the front desk. I did not expect a full breakfast including hot oatmeal, eggs, meats, yogurt, cereal and fresh waffles. They also have 24 hour coffee available and cookies during the day. The desk clerk was extremely rude and abrupt. First thing she said is "Oh you booked with expedia?" Then went on to tell me that she needed my credit card. I then asked why she needed my credit card and she stated that she needed it for INCIDENTALS? I immediately became offended..... I came here for one night to spend my anniversary with my husband. What incidentals could she be talking about. I asked for a manager and she said she was the manager on duty. I said what if I didn't bring my credit card? She said well then you will have to leave us cash. Are you serious??? A gentleman came up and said ma'am we ask this of all of our customers. I said I don't understand. I paid to stay and that is all I wanted to do. He said Ma'am we have to have a credit card or cash in case you damage the room or make international calls. I did have my credit card with me and eventually had no other choice than to give it to him. He clearly stated that if I didn't like it I could leave. At one point I even told him I was going to make sure and leave a bad review and he puffs up and said to me "Are you Threatening Me?" I clearly said No Sir I promise to tell everyone how rude your business is. This is all before I even get to the room. So finally we arrive in the room and you wouldn't believe how run down this is. There is excess caulking all around ever seam in the bathroom it is mold in the tiles. Just not what I would expect from a room that we paid $179.00 for. This was supposed to be a great evening spent quietly celebrating our anniversary. It turned into hell. There was signs that stated there was construction going on and the signs even stated that they were renovating the hotel to make it better for the guest. We all can understand that. However we did not check in until about 530. You would think that sometime after 6:00pm the work crew would stop banging hammers above our head. But since I had already had a run in with the desk clerk I was reluctant to call. Finally at 7:15 I could no longer take the construction. I called the desk clerk and she said Oh I will be sure that they finish by 7:30pm. So as it goes the night went on. The next morning at 7:00AM we are awoke with furniture moving hammers and drills all going right above our head. I immediately called the front desk and she said Oh Sorry..... I would not recommend this place. This is not a place that you will enjoy. It is worse than some cheap roadside trucker motel. read more
