Hair and Nail on the bed when we checked in!
    Krishna K.

Wish I can give this hotel a zero! We came to South Haven to celebrate our daughter's birthday. We checked in around 11 pm and found a broken finger nail and hair on bed. We had just sanitized the entire room! When we called the front desk, they were so unapologetic and never even said a sorry. The staff were so casual and expected us to clean the bed and sleep. During these COVID times, we except the hotels to do their best to keep their guests safe. We decided to vacate the room and hotel staff cared less. Have been a Hilton Honors member for years and I am really sorry to say! Never again. If they cannot keep rooms clean in this environment, I can only imagine their house keeping skills during normal times. Stay away! Find a better place and your family safe from this dump. The worst is the uncaring n unapologetic staff!

Love this place. The staff is always so friendly and helpful. The place is clean, free breakfast. Still have not been to the pool. I always have a nice time here and Shermans is across the street!

this was with the "new/clean" towels along with a couple others that had little red stains, don't even want to know what that was!

Located in beautiful South Haven, Michigan it is easily accessible. Street parking is free for three hours. Know that the complimentary overnight parking lot is behind the building (though you'll still need to walk with your bags outdoors). When we arrived, I found that I had made a reservation glitch. Todd reassured me that in any case, he'd take care of us. Indeed, he cared for every patron as valued and appreciated guests. Todd was transparent and upfront about availability, costs, and amenities. He offered solid recommendations about South Haven dining, activities and shops. The staff, under Todd's guidance and watchful eye, worked behind the scenes. The proof is in the cleanliness of the space; the incredible breakfast that rivals world class chef creations; and the evening offerings of a beer or summer wine selection for those who imbibe. Coffee, tea and hot water are always available. Our first floor room was tiny, but wonderful. Very Euro! Room AC kept us cool. Yes, the wood flooring was uneven in places, and the bathroom tiling had buckled at some point, but everything was workable, clean and fresh. The bed was comfy and the bedding light enough to sleep with ease. Lobby seating was cozy quiet. No TVs in that space (except for the beach cam). If i had mobility issues i would request a first floor room because there is not elevator to my knowledge. All told, we so loved the place because of Todd and i guess, its central location that we plan to return in low season again.

We came at the end of April so it was pretty chilly out. Our only issue was our room was very cold. Staff couldn't have been more welcoming and accommodating.

The building is set up as 16 individual Air B&Bs so they don't have to have anyone at the desk. There is no "Inn" experience to be had for us and you and your family. We tried to find someone to assist three times. We also texted. You get your code and you let yourself in and fend for yourselves. 2. No breakfast (to speak of) you and the other guests hover and pick over a couple of coffee cakes and frozen egg bites from Costco. 3. The entrance way to our Air B&B was in disrepair (PICTURE). The front door and the bathroom door due to age were very hard to close. We had to use our weight to secure ourselves into the room. The front door DID NOT have blinds, shades or the like. Anyone could look in on you and your family as you try to rest safely. Again, this was for $500 a night. 4. The temperature we changed (by remote) before we went to bed, it was very cold, woke up the next morning to an even colder room. Finally got a hold of staff (text) and they said "the remotes don't work I have the controls here in my living room". (PICTURED) 5. The bathroom was uninhabitable. ¼ of the bathroom (PICTURED) is I don't know what...but the moldy mirror is what you stare into as you are on the toilet. By now, you can guess the ply of the toilet paper. You also have to flush twice each time as this business was able to save money, deciding not to switch over the pluming and has kept the entire 16 units under a lone septic tank. Contained within is a shower (barely usable), another shower at the back which has been blocked off, no showerhead, the drain nailed shut. There is red tape (again, PICTURED) over a mysterious light switch. 6. The "Employee Area" that you are not supposed to enter but which shares a wall of this room which had a cut-out chunk of the wall which served as an unneeded night light at all hours. (PICTURE) The crusty white part at the top is where the bright light would seep into this unit. PROMISES and KNOWN UNTRUTHS: 1. Promised: The Jacuzzi tub. THERE WAS NONE. This claim as a lie. The only tub in the bathroom is the one (PICTURED). 2. Promised: The Private Deck. THERE WAS NONE. This claim is a lie. The one that was promised was the one (PICTURED) with the table setting...it's FAKE. THAT was never attached to our room. Never saw it. The deck we DID have had a nice view...BUT there were no partitions. At night we had someone cup their hands and watch us in bed. The same thing happened as we were trying to escape the next morning. My deck was EVERYONE'S deck. It would have cost this Air B&B less than $1K to put up simple wood partitions. But they didn't. The money must have gone toward the imaginary Jacuzzi tub. How would you feel? 3. Promised: Individual Heating and Cooling Controls. THERE WAS NONE. This claim is a lie. See above what we were told about our cold unit. If freezing, you have to hope you contact someone. In the meantime?? A very old house that hasn't seen love in many decades. The current owners, in evidence, have provided new paint here and there and flimsy wood stairs. I was told "please be patient as we work on this "amazing historic home, etc, etc." How about this. Don't open until you can provide your customers a safe place to stay. Our charge was $500 per night (including taxes, pet fee, etc., etc., etc.) per night. This business has yet to refund to us $1000. I'm SURE the response will be something sad like "if we would have known...if you would have called". WE DID. NO ONE WAS THERE. Your business knows what it's providing and what it isn't. All of us travelers deserve better. A few years from now this property will change hands yet again, from laziness and not wanting to invest the money. This was our first and last trip to Michigan.

Since then, two…read morethings have changed: breakfast is table service instead of buffet and the afternoon snacks are now a la carte indulgences. What hasn't changed is the quality of the food, the availability of triple chocolate brownies and popcorn 24/7, refreshing mint cucumber water, and treats in bowls scattered throughout the common areas. Elaine and Robert run a place that is impeccably clean and incredibly hospitable. They are very quick to address any concern or engage in friendly conversation. It is obvious they are experts in providing guests with an enjoyable stay. We stayed in the Ivy Room in the Manor. It isn't large, and it is at the top of the main stairs, but it's quiet and was just fine for us. The common areas are perfectly appointed for reading or eating or playing games. We had breakfast in the morning and played table games at night on the screened porch, which is lovely and especially charming in the dark. Re: things to do, there is plenty to keep you occupied at the B&B. We spent most of our days wandering around South Haven--walks on the beach, sunset at the pier, going into town for shopping and meals--or in other nearby lake towns, though, and relished the peace of the inn later in the day. If you are there when it's not crowded (e.g., during the week), YMBB has a pedal-powered surrey you can borrow! I will say, I was worried about the change in breakfast service since last time the buffet was amazing. My concern was unfounded, though--being served was delightful and the food options expanded with the inclusion of specialty entrees. We were provided with amuse-bouches of local blackberries with a dollop of whipped cream, plates of a variety of other local fruits, and plenty of choices from the standard and changing menus. My husband enjoyed the decadent quiches and I was happy to see steel-cut oatmeal on offer (with vanilla rhubarb syrup!). We discovered how wonderful hummus or sweet potato could be in the morning, too. Elaine expanded my idea of what breakfast could be, both for myself and at a B&B; I didn't miss casseroles, muffins, or bacon/sausage at all (like what we've had at other places). A special touch that highlights their personalized service -- I mentioned to Robert one afternoon that I meant to tell Elaine to save me some of the edges that are trimmed off before the triple chocolate brownies are served. He found some for me within a few minutes and, when my husband and I arrived at breakfast the next morning, there was a plate of them put side with plastic wrap and a note with my name. So thoughtful! Those chewy edges are my FAVORITE. Even in the smallest, least expensive room, we consider a trip to YMBB a special treat. We are the kind of couple who travels by car and engages in cheap adventures (hiking, camping, etc.). Going away without a planned itinerary is out of my comfort zone...usually. This long weekend of relaxation and restoration convinced me there's another way, and the treatment we received at Yelton Manor was no small part of that.

Breakfast way just okay, nothing really special. We have been to other B&Bs where breakfast was a real pleasure. When we checked like every other hotel it was a ghost town at the front desk, as I walked around a clerk came out. We get checked in and go to my suite 315 and first red flag the door keys were not coded, the doors would not open and so I had to go back down to first floor and get them coded. I get back to the room and come in and superficially it was kind of cool, I went to the jacuzzi and find a giant clump of soap scum and used bar of soap. Disgusted I go to the front desk and make it known and the clerk said some one would be notified, as they had no other staff. As I am back at the room my despair begins to multiply as the remote held together with a rubber band does not change the channel and the tv didn't work. So i monkeyed with the tv got Comedy Central come on and that was it, remote would not change anything and control on the box and tv would not respond also. I start seeing how filthy this hotel really is, I went to get ice in the one machine on the second floor where there appears to be a build up of filth and kind of looks like the building is falling apart along with the broken vending machine and the filthy ice machine. So disappointing. I checked back with the front desk and they said someone was coming to clean the jacuzzi I told them we were going out for dinner and would be back and to enter the room to clean. We come back after an hour its 630p and nobody is there. I go to the front desk and tell them I can clean it but I want money back and would need cleaning material. She said she would check with their manager. I come back after another hour and she would did not get permission to give me cleaning material. The front desk finally offers to switch me to the other jacuzzi room w/o a bed couch so i declined and cleaned the jacuzzi with body soap. I also took my son to the pool and there were glops of hair floating on the surface and on the deck, such a nasty place. The door lock was so shaky it appeared to have been kicked in as it would shake in the wall. So on top of all this on one of my many trips to the front desk to try and get some sort of service, a unhoused person whom I saw earlier at the intersection with his carboard sign talking to themselves came in and sat their garbage bag next to me. The man shaking and jerking movements shows me a wad of cash stating he had money for a room but no ID, asked if he could rent a room with my ID. I of course look desperately for any sort of attendant and find no one. The homeless man then starts reaching over the counter and going through the room keys while talking to himself. I pointed to the camera finally and he says "you told on me" and put the room keys back, after 5 minutes the clerk appeared like a genie finally and again has no way to provide any help as they have no cleaners nor manager. So I left her with the homeless guy, sorry. So after reading that run on, now you see how unsafe this place is also. Later around midnight the clerk was talking to another employee and she told him about all the stuff that happened and he just glares at me while counting the cash in the register, very welcoming. Same thing happened when I go to get the cart in the morning and again nothing is said just another glare from the dude. So I emailed the manager, expecting something as it was the most expensive room(over 200), but was like sleeping in a tent next to the highway. Still no reply.. I also wonder how many generic apologies will they issue to these reviews before the try and change? I'm beyond mad so I guess I will take the pictures to Choice Hotels and Radisson and see maybe get some movement there.
