This review is about a trip we took from 10/17 to 10/20. We left Water's View Inn the next morning. Here is what happened. 1. The building is set up as 16 individual Air B&Bs so they don't have to have anyone at the desk. There is no "Inn" experience to be had for us and you and your family.We tried to find someone to assist three times. We also texted. You get your code and you let yourself in and fend for yourselves. 2. No breakfast (to speak of) you and the other guests hover and pick over a couple of coffee cakes and frozen egg bites from Costco. 3. The entrance way to our Air B&B was in disrepair (PICTURE). The front door and the bathroom door due to age were very hard to close. We had to use our weight to secure ourselves into the room. The front door DID NOT have blinds, shades or the like. Anyone could look in on you and your family as you try to rest safely. Again, this was for $500 a night. 4. The temperature we changed (by remote) before we went to bed, it was very cold, woke up the next morning to an even colder room. Finally got a hold of staff (text) and they said "the remotes don't work I have the controls here in my living room". (PICTURED) 5. The bathroom was uninhabitable. ¼ of the bathroom (PICTURED) is I don't know what...but the moldy mirror is what you stare into as you are on the toilet. By now, you can guess the ply of the toilet paper. You also have to flush twice each time as this business was able to save money, deciding not to switch over the pluming and has kept the entire 16 units under a lone septic tank. Contained within is a shower (barely usable), another shower at the back which has been blocked off, no showerhead, the drain nailed shut. There is red tape (again, PICTURED) over a mysterious light switch. 6. The "Employee Area" that you are not supposed to enter but which shares a wall of this room which had a cut-out chunk of the wall which served as an unneeded night light at all hours. (PICTURE) The crusty white part at the top is where the bright light would seep into this unit. PROMISES and KNOWN UNTRUTHS: 1. Promised: The Jacuzzi tub. THERE WAS NONE. This claim as a lie. The only tub in the bathroom is the one (PICTURED). 2. Promised: The Private Deck. THERE WAS NONE. This claim is a lie. The one that was promised was the one (PICTURED) with the table setting...it's FAKE. THAT was never attached to our room. Never saw it. The deck we DID have had a nice view...BUT there were no partitions. At night we had someone cup their hands and watch us in bed. The same thing happened as we were trying to escape the next morning. My deck was EVERYONE'S deck. It would have cost this Air B&B less than $1K to put up simple wood partitions. But they didn't. The money must have gone toward the imaginary Jacuzzi tub. How would you feel? 3. Promised: Individual Heating and Cooling Controls. THERE WAS NONE. This claim is a lie. See above what we were told about our cold unit. If freezing, you have to hope you contact someone. In the meantime?? A very old house that hasn't seen love in many decades. The current owners, in evidence, have provided new paint here and there and flimsy wood stairs. I was told "please be patient as we work on this "amazing historic home, etc, etc." How about this. Don't open until you can provide your customers a safe place to stay. Our charge was $500 per night (including taxes, pet fee, etc., etc., etc.) per night. This business has yet to refund to us $1000. I'm SURE the response will be something sad like "if we would have known...if you would have called". WE DID. NO ONE WAS THERE. Your business knows what it's providing and what it isn't. All of us travelers deserve better. A few years from now this property will change hands yet again, from laziness and not wanting to invest the money. This was our first and last trip to Michigan. read more

I recently spent a couple nights with my parents at the Waters View Inn and we all had a great time. The location is very convenient to both the downtown and the beach and the room was cozy and comfortable. Beyond the room, the staff was very friendly and helpful. After returning home from my stay, I realized that I had left an item behind, which has often in the past meant that it is gone for good. Not this time! The staff was quick to respond, had already located my item and set it aside, and was able to help me get it back super fast. What could have been a sour note to an otherwise good trip was thankfully avoided. Would definitely stay again and recommend to others visiting the area. read more

Loved our stay here. Truly a =breakfast= and bed inn. Sarah works up some magic for breakfast. And the portions are ample, but not overwhelming. Evening snacks are yummy, too. And there's plenty of juices, coffee, milk, Gatorade, and snacks during the day. An easy block from the harbor or the beach. Very cozy and charming, with friendly staff. We fell in love with South Haven. The town is full of charm. We enjoyed a 90-min cruise of Lake Michigan aboard a tall ship, the Friends Good Will. We really enjoyed the beach. Do try the ice cream at Kilwin's. We had a delightful stay at Waters View Inn! read more

I hosted a 30-person Family reunion and it was our first experience with The Last Resort Inn. The place was very clean and the staff is extremely attentive. I love the eccentric nature of the Inn and the fact that every room is so different and has unique and artsy details! It's hard to please 30 women but overall my group was very happy with our accommodations and the location can't be beat!!! For families or people who don't necessarily want to share beds it was great to have all the options of rooms with extra beds and lots of space! Breakfast was great and the variety of indoor and outdoor space to dine or relax is incredible, especially when you get to watch a sunset over Lake Michigan!! Highly recommended! read more

I was very disappointed. I reserved the 2 bedroom suite. I called because I wanted to be sure it matched the pictures on the website. It was a gift for my parents. It was NOT. The room was substandard. Nothing was opened even though I called in advance and was assured that surrounding businesses would be open although holiday hours may apply. The TV does not have any movie channels However, There was only one bathroom and no fireplace. The dinette only had three chairs so the four of us could not sit together at the table. It would not have made a difference as the furniture arrangement is not conducive to TV viewing. We paid full price for a bait and switch. read more

South Haven is a beautiful town, and there are much better options than The Last Resort. I would strongly recommend staying somewhere other than the Lat Resort in order to obtain the best experience from SouthHaven. This B&B has a great location, but the service is horrible. We stayed one night in the Dollhouse Cottage of the Last Resort Bed and Breakfast. This place really wins for LOCATION. We could see the boats in the harbor from the semi-private back porch. It is only steps away from the public beaches of Lake Michigan. The accommodations are modest and eclectic (nothing really matches, mostly outdated features), but comfortable enough for our young family. There were light snacks available at all times, and fresh coffee in the morning. We opted to have breakfast delivered to the cottage, and while it was 20 minutes later than we expected, it was tasty. Good location, disappointing stay. The property is close to the beach. It's clean. The owner was friendly. That being said, the property is extremely dated. We have stayed in several B&B's across the country -- historic does not have to mean you don't renovate/decorate to keep common areas and baths refreshed. All of the common areas are dated - mismatched, old furniture, not vintage or historical or charming, just plain old. The bath has a very small plastic-insert shower and the floor was rolled vinyl. There was an odd paper bath mat over the bath rug. The corner sink in the room was quaint, but the sink skirt was attached with electrical tape and was falling off. The doorknob was also held together with electrical or duct tape (which after looking, was reported several years ago on another review). The breakfast is the same every day: off-brand grocery store bagels from a bag and plain English muffins; watermelon slices one day and canteloupe the next day; yogurt with granola on top; and a breakfast bread. No variety, done on the cheap. You are in SW Michigan, but yet no berries, cherries, apple butter, honey, or anything unique or local. Our room is advertised as having a view of Lake Michigan. The only view of the lake is a peek down a condo complex driveway across the street. The grounds could also use some TLC. The porch was quite nice for relaxing, but all of the flower beds had knee-high weeds and were just not maintained. read more

We stayed here with 2 small children and were nervous to book a bed and breakfast but this place was perfect!! We stayed in the harbor room II and it was the best layout - separate room for the kids with 2 baths (including a tub). Owners could not have been more accommodating and kind. We felt right at home. Breakfast was delicious - we were able to eat out on the big back deck so the kids could run around. Highly recommend for couples or families! 1 block from the beach and walking distance to town! This place was awesome. Rooms are clean and more than enough room! The way they are now serving breakfast was perfect with them bringing out trays of delicious nutritious breakfast to sit outside or in! The staff was so friendly and helpful. The location is amazing and the big beautiful old mansion is very well maintained!! Fit our needs beautifully to meet up with friends for the weekend. Our friends were so impressed as well! This is our second stay here and we really enjoy ourselves. Our room is beautiful and the staff is very kind, helpful and accommodating.

This place is the best deal in South Haven -- right by the water for affordable rates. Of course, at a discount price it's not perfect. You need to be ok with it not being recently renovated, with the hot and cold water coming out of separate taps and stuff like that. And the breakfast is a discount affair, just a few bagels and such rather than the fancy sit-down spread you get at some B& Bs. But it's clean and pretty, and the proprietors are friendly and interesting -- both artists. And it's great for families -- they welcome kids and have several double rooms that are perfect for that. read more

My boyfriend and I just spent the weekend in South Haven and the Last Resort is exactly what we were looking for. We wanted a nice place to stay that was close to the beach as well as friendly to our college budget. We really enjoyed the friendly service as well as the old architectural feel of the building. This was our first experience at a B&B and both of us very much enjoyed it and will stay again in the future. The location is great, only a hop and a skip from the beach and within easy walking distance of downtown South Haven as well. The breakfast provided in the morning wasn't lavish but had several options that were a nice way to start your day. If you are looking for a luxurious sit down breakfast experience this may not be the place for you. For our purposes, the breakfast provided was a perfect way to start the day. This was a great Bed and Breakfast FOR THE PRICE. We were by the beach, had a comfortable room with a nice view, had plenty of places both in and out of the house to relax, and the breakfast was pretty good. The room was not huge but it was laid out well and with the 9-10' ceiling it felt larger than it was. Another site reviewed Mary as rude but I would say she is just more of a blunt person or not exceptionally great at customer service. Her personality wouldn't keep me from going back. I personally will try another place though as the bed has no support and I had major back issues trying to sleep on it. I also did not like that on our final night the parking lot was full and we had to park on a street near, but not next to, the bed and breakfast. Overall: Good for the money and without back issues I'd go back. read more

Breakfast is good with a variety of bagels, breads, yogurt, eggs. We chose a small room but it works perfect for us and price was reasonable due to the size. We rented the entire B&B for our family wedding weekend. We held a shower on Friday night and had the wedding at the yacht club on Saturday. Our hosts were very accommodating and hospitable. The rooms were all unique and perfectly clean. Not a single person had a complaint! It's a charming setting with views of the harbor and Lake Michigan. Beaches and shopping are all a close walk.
