I was…read moreon a visit from Texas and we planned the last few days of my trip to visit there and partake in some fun shopping. My sister and her husband were there years before and had a nice experience. We drove from West Bloomfield which was a two hour straight shot. The parking was easily accessible. The inn is quaint and cozy. We felt welcomed, but there are a few things that Jan, the innkeeper, should note. The interior is very nice, but needs better upkeeping. The room that we were in seemingly had a quick slight over easy "hit or miss" cleaning. The furniture had not been dusted and there were many dust bunnies in the corners of the room. The shower took 10 minutes to get warm. I had taken one at night. The bathroom rug needs to be replaced. It was more of a loose old carpeted rug which can harbor bacteria and didn't seem to have been washed. A better recommendation will be the foam sponge Clara Clark type bathroom mat to use. The toiletries need to be replaced every time new guests arrive if they have been used. There were two bottles of shampoo that were half used remaining there. We didn't touch those. I do not drink tap water and hotels always have at least two complimentary bottles of water. I asked Jan if she had any bottled water and she did not. I had to resort to getting regular water from her refrigerator dispenser. Even a couple of the small 4-6 ounces of bottled water in the guest room would have sufficed. We sat on the back porch prior to breakfast which was a very opened and relaxed atmosphere. The breakfast we had that Monday morning was somewhat continental. The fruit was farm fresh, the coffee and juices were delicious, and her pastry of an apple French toast roll was very nice, but there was no protein. We were looking forward to scrambled eggs to say the least. Protein should be included in the breakfasts. During mid afternoon we saw baggies with chopped up pieces of granola inside. I took a bag in the evening and had to throw the granola away because it was stale. The inn is conveniently located in town. Just walk a few steps and you're welcome to visit most of the shops. A few were closed on both Sunday and Monday. The waterfront is in walking proximity as well. The boat ride adventure was very nice and the restaurants' cuisines were scrumptious. We managed to go to the Douglas Beach, but could not partake in the water because it was too cold, but it was very beautiful. I only saw one picture for the review prior to my input. I have attached a few additional pics. I noticed some people commented about the folks working at The Inn of Saugatuck with emphasis on the innkeeper. Jan was cordial, nice, slightly standoffish, but we figured for some reason that was her personality. She was not rude whatsoever. All in all the visit was very nice, but for the recommended reasons above I am giving four out of five stars. I would not hesitate to visit The Inn of Saugatuck again.

There wasn't many options close to downtown that were available or reasonable. I found Beachway for $150 a night compared to $300+ for a room just across the water. After reading lots of reviews, I booked and crossed my fingers. We arrived and were greeted by Cathy at the front desk. So sweet and informative! Walked me through everything we needed to know - front desk hours (she was staying the night so would be available for emergencies and ring the bell if needed! So sweet), breakfast area with coffee, donuts, and fresh fruit, and all the amenities they had - games, movies, snacks, etc. They walked me to the room to make sure I knew where it was and to show me around. I had left a note in our reservation about it being our Anniversary and the staff left us a bottle of Prosecco and some nuts - SO sweet and totally unexpected. The room was small - as was described - but very clean and well maintained. The bed, two nightstands, small dresser, TV, and shelf with hangers was in one area of the room and the other half had two chairs, small table, & the sink area outside of the actual bathroom. The sink had a hand towel, makeup towel (black so not to stain easily from makeup - great idea), blow dryer, 2 bars of soap, shampoo, conditioner, and 2 makeup wipes. (no lotion). The bathroom has a door and was recently remodeled - toilet and small shower with a curtain. The renovation was VERY well done, but the shower is pretty small (but tall). We did not use the pool but it appeared to be heated - we hardly saw anyone using it but it appear clean and well maintained. There are lots of decks with ample seating to hang out and watch the activities across the channel. The location is great! short 8-10 min drive to downtown Saugatuck or Douglas. Chain Ferry is a block away and super convenient - and charming! Oval beach is a short 5 minute drive away (walking distance but very hilly and no sidewalks - it's mostly through the woods) My ONLY complaint about the Beachway is the fact that there is no individual temperature controls in the rooms - it is an older establishment that looks retrofitted into individual rooms so everyone must be on the same run. It got a little stuffy in our room, so we opened the windows at night. It was cool outside but the cool air didn't' seem to come in at all. There also is no fan in the room to move the air. So, I would recommend bringing fans if you can. We were on the floor above the lobby so maybe other areas don't have this issue. I did see comments in other reviews about paper thin walls and hearing everything - while I would agree, we didn't find it to be an issue as there didn't seem to be many guests. Out door didn't close flush so at night you could see light coming through from the hallway - even with that we didn't hear people out and about. Overall, this is a charming place that we definitely said we'd bring our kids back to! For a couple traveling for their anniversary looking for a place to just lay their heads, it worked out extremely well!

According to him, the mattress is made by a private company and they only sell "in bulk". Reportedly, the same mattress is carried by the pricier hotels in the area.The mattress is firm, but soft, if that makes any sense. You can feel your body just melting in to it. Oh and those many pillows. So wonderful to lay your head in. The bedding was sooo good, it was hard to get out. Some really great sleeping & resting after a long day of travel and sightseeing. I guess you get the point..... its all about the bed. We came in mid October as the sister motel, Saugatuck Resort, was unavailable. Not really into the beach theme of the motel, but it turned out to be well done. Loved the ceiling and retro vibe, especially the fridge. (Ice is located in cooler by the main office) There seemed to be only 3 or 4 other guests at the time. Perfect. When we walked into the room, we noticed right away a "fresh" scent. Good sign. Yes, the bathroom is small, but everything worked well. Also, the AC/Heating system was in great operating condition. Steve was great about giving us information regarding places to eat and see. As we arrived later in the day, we were able to see the sunset at Oval Beach. Highly recommend. The Pines Motor Lodge is in a really good location. You can walked in to the city of Douglas and browse the galleries and shops. Saugatuck is a few minutes a way by car. The only concern someone might have, and we didn't, is that the office hours posted are not strictly adhered to. So if you are wanting to visit the gift shop, seek desk assistance or personally check out when the office is suppose to be open, you could have an issue. This is a really good place to stay, especially for $100 a night. Steve said that during the high season, you have to book at least 6 weeks in advance.

The toilet would barely flush. Although there are tvs in the room you have to log into your own apps to use them AND the WiFi barely works so you can't actually log into your apps making the tv pointless. Continental breakfast doesn't start until 9:00 am. I'm up and out the door long before then. The price for this was $300 plus a night. I've stayed in swanky hotels with amazing amenities for less than that. Definitely DO NOT recommend. I was so disappointed that I got sucked into the cute pictures online, not worth it at all.

We had some allergy restrictions and those were taken into consideration for our breakfast. They had a wonderful gazebo where we could hang out if we opted out of the beach. Beach mats were available, menus for various restaurants in town. You need to drive to town for the shops and places to eat (about 8 minute drive). they had cabins for larger groups as well. We would come back to this place next year no doubt!

We spend our days soaking up the sun, swimming, and ending evenings with bonfires on the beach using the complimentary firewood provided by the property. Between the pool, tennis courts, pickleball, ping pong, basketball, open grassy areas for wiffle ball and games, and the complimentary bikes and beach cruisers, they're entertained from morning until sunset. One of our favorite parts is that they always seem to meet other kids staying on the property, and before long they're all outside riding bikes, playing games, and making summer memories together. The gated property also gives us peace of mind, making it feel incredibly safe for families. Cottage #7 is the perfect setup for us. It has a bedroom with two twin beds for the kids, a comfortable master bedroom for us, and a den with a pull-out sofa that's perfect when family or friends decide to stay the night. Having a grill and a washer and dryer makes longer stays so much easier. The kitchen has an eclectic collection of dishes and cups, but honestly, that's part of the charm. There's something nostalgic and fun about the mismatched, cottage-style feel that makes it feel like a true home away from home. The grounds are absolutely pristine and beautifully maintained, making every walk around the property enjoyable. Every year we're sad when it's time to leave, and before we're even packed up, we're already looking forward to coming back next summer. Sleepy Hollow has become much more than just a vacation rental--it's where our family makes some of our favorite summer memories. And yes some cottages are more updated than others, but it's the property and beach access you're getting that's priceless. Not having to pack up a car and drive to a crowded beach everyday is by far a luxury in itself!
