A peaceful weekend getaway! Debated writing a review because this place is magical and I'm not sure I want everyone to know. Great staff, amazing views, so many amenities included in the room rate (e.g. bikes, kayaks, pool, breakfast, etc.) It's tucked away and has a phenomenal view of Lake Michigan. 10/10 recommend!

Wanting to escape Chicago for a few days to unwind on a solo vacation, Saugatuck was the perfect destination. I had heard great things about Lake Shore Resort, and it certainly did not disappoint. From my first interaction with Michelle upon checking in, to my last interaction checking out, the staff went above and beyond to make sure my stay was memorable. All my dealings with the staff over the two days were nothing short of exceptional, with the friendliest and most professional staff. The resort is very well-maintained, rooms are clean and comfortable and the location on the shoreline makes for the most incredible sunsets - truly a stunning and tranquil location! A big thank you to all the staff for making my trip a memorable one - I look forward to hopefully returning soon!

Have you ever been somewhere and realized that you've been there before? Déjà vu? You're drawn to a place maybe from a different life, time, or dream? This is my geographical home...a place that is mine! I happened upon this place many years ago by chance? Or quite possibly, destiny. There is something very special about the Lake Shore Resort. Breathing in the air, experiencing the magnificent blue Lake Michigan waters...time stands still for only just a moment...but it's a moment that's all yours. The Resort is the ultimate place for relaxation and renewal. Trust me, there isn't another place quite like it. The rooms have been renovated and the simplicity of the space brings tranquility to the soul. The resort is for adults, which is very nice and the pool is truly meant for relaxation. If you enjoy a front row view of the lake, walk on down the steep stairs to the pristine views of the lake from the lower deck. It's great for morning yoga & meditation. The resort offers kayaks and bikes to travel around the area. If you are booking a room, they require a minimum stay of 3 days. If you have a chance to check it out, I'm excited to share my special place with you.

Visited during the time of Covid as a getaway. This resort is amazing!!! If you are seeking a peaceful quiet place to relax, this is your place. Soooo quiet!!! I loved it!!! I could hear the birds chirping while floating in the pool. Pure Heaven!! The grounds are so well maintained. I wanted to steal their landscapers!!!! As COVID is still around, they have switched to delivery of breakfast each morning and also to Housekeeping only to deliver preselected items. The breakfast was delish and I looked forward to it each morning. And I found that I really liked being able to request items from housekeeping. Maybe this will become a new model if guests chose??? We just got home and we've already decided that Lake Shore Resort is going to become a new yearly tradition for us!

I've been staying at the Lake Shore Resort now for years and I love it. One of my favorite places to stay in Michigan. The amenities are amazing. A private beach on Lake Michigan (with a lovely landing on the stairs headed down there for sipping wine and watching the sunset), complimentary kayaks, complimentary bikes, a swimming pool, a small putting green, a few small grills if you want to cook on sight, tons of outdoor seating to take in the sights and the lovely weather, hiking trails behind the resort, fire pits, etc etc. Everything you could want in one beautiful space. I've come both with my fiance to enjoy relaxing getaways and most recently on a trip with 8 girlfriends to celebrate my bachelorette party. And each time I've had a perfect experience. The staff is friendly and SO accommodating. They bent over backwards to make our ladies' weekend stay successful and I appreciated it so much. It's also adult only so if you want a quieter, more relaxed atmosphere (and a swim in a pool without kids splashing around you) this place is great. Now here's the deal, the rooms? They're nothing fancy. So don't roll in expecting anything other than a bed, a bit of furniture, and a simple bathroom. This isn't a deluxe suite but it's totally okay because you're not going there for the room. You're going for the beautiful beach and other amenities. And for what you need the room for (sleeping, showering, changing, etc) it's perfect. Each room does have a small flat screen TV (I don't think I've ever turned them on, though) and a fridge which is perfect for bringing back wine, beers, or snacks and keeping them chilled. Also worth noting--there is no wifi on the premises and the phone service can be spotty. If you HAVE to stay connected to the outside world this is something to consider but it's also quite nice to be forced to get away from it all. An all around amazing spot with fantastic amenities. Again, the rooms are not plush but the space surrounding them is so ideal that you won't be wishing for anything else.

Root Beer barrel just down the street is a historic landmark in Douglas!

Oh my gosh. You need to come stay here. This place is truly one of the most beautiful places we have ever stayed. No kids allowed made for a very relaxing and romantic weekend, but we saw plenty of other guests who were visiting with friends or family, not just significant others! You have to walk across the street to get to the stairs down to the lake, which have plenty of seating to enjoy the water. The beach is gone now, but we barely missed it. Huge pool, very nice clean rooms, and such a cozy main house. The breakfast was simply amazing, and the service the entire week was just so kind, warm, and friendly. We never heard "no" the entire time we were there! The place is small, so you certainly get to know other guests and staff. There were games provided in the main house, bikes and kayaks available for use, and a free coffee bar all day. They even put out little treats randomly throughout the day like ice cream or donuts! The sunset is magical, and there are plenty of places to sit and watch. We recommend bringing a bottle of wine and some snacks or food, because we didn't want to leave to go eat! Though, ride the bikes to the nearby Root beer Barrel for lunch, dinner, or a snack, and you won't regret it. This entire resort was so cozy, relaxing, and luxurious. As another guest during our trip said, "they just don't make 'em like this anymore".

We just left the resort and I just have to Rave about it! It was perfect! Clean, beautiful, modern and we had the most amazing sunset and breakfast! We could bike ride and kayak for free! The grounds are immaculate and the pool is so pretty ! There are lovely spots to sit and read under the big ol trees and the Adirondack chairs are super comfy! I can't wait to come back!!! (I'm coming from CA!!!) I know you think this is sponsored but it isn't! We brought my 92 year old mother in law here for a rod trip from her place in Chicago! She told me she "feels like I had a shot of vitamins!" Perfection! Thank you soooo much!

Protein bowl breakfast

We had a great stay here in June 2021! Helpful, pleasant staff. Our room was modern and clean. We loved that they provided us with stemless wine glasses and a corkscrew. The grounds are very well maintained. We took advantage of the complimentary beach cruiser bikes to ride into downtown Saugatuck, and kayaked down the coastline on a calm morning. The complimentary breakfast was also fast and filling. And, of course, we loved being able to watch the sunset from the private beachfront patio areas. I'd stay there again.

Lake Shore Resort just keeps getting better. All rooms have been updated. Our room was just finished before we got there and maybe a few of the finer details were still incomplete. Not enough to worry about; they will take care of things. And if you plan on spending most of your time in your room, go someplace else. The owners and staff keep this place in A+ shape at all times. Shady, tranquil grounds with a huge perfect-temp. pool. Many places to sit and enjoy the lake, the beautiful grounds, the fire pits around sunset, the occasional passing deer. We saw a bald eagle cruise by as well. Enjoyed a nice continental breakfast on the outdoor deck. The only downside...eventually you have to leave.

It offers studio, 1 br, 2br up to a house as options. The rooms aren't anything fancy or upscale but clean and well kept. All rooms have a full kitchen which is nice if you stay a while. The furniture is well...cheap but works just fine. The pool and hot tub are a great perk and selling point for me. The location is very nice. Tucked away on the lake side at the Douglas saugatuck border and just a mile from oval beach (bring and ride your bike or drive, not an easy walk) or walk up the road 1/2 mile to the lesser know Douglas public beach. The owners are very hands off, too hands off in my opinion. They give you a code to get into the rooms no person or office to check you in or ask questions. They are responsive if you call or text them though. they don't service your rooms until you leave which would be nice to know (the room is stocked for our 3 day stay). They defiantly need to have some sort of ownership and staff presence in my opinion. It would have been nice to be able to speak to some one about the dog in the room next to us left unattended and barking for 3 straight days. I did give this place 4 stars although it's also compared to other properties in the area. It could easily be a 3 star otherwise. Anyway it's a good find in the saugatuck/Douglas area and will likely come back again for another stay.

Rob was amazing. He reached out to me to confirm my arrival time and checked in on me from time to time via text. The motel is quaint and peaceful. A few things to keep in mind, it is on eastern time zone, that's important if you're driving from the central time zone! Rob was gracious when I was running late to check in. A great place to relax and unwind after a busy day of play, shopping, or in my case working. The worst part was the management- outwardly rude, arrogant, and abrasive towards guests. Very strange behavior from them, would not recommend. Hopefully new management will take over, bc with some good upkeep, and proper maintenance of the rooms, as well as just professional behavior from management they would do quite well. Would definitely not recommend- especially if you are traveling with children.

I was a little apprehensive at first after hearing that it is both a salon and hotel, and reading some of the negative reviews about the condition of the rooms. I can only speak to our stay and our room which were both very nice. The room is contemporary, huge, and with well appointed furniture and fixtures. The place looks to have been updated sometime in the recent past, and was impeccably cleaned. I cannot think of a more central location to stay either. Walk out the suite's door and you are a minute away from shopping and dining options. The only downside, and it may be a big deal for late risers, is that suite 7 has a skylight located directly over the bed and does not have a means for closing it. I threw a T-shirt over my eyes and was fine, and my wife was up before it could even bother her. If this is a big issue than you may want to shop their other suites, which also look nice from the online pictures. We will stay at this hotel again in our next visit to Saugatuck.

The communication between the staff and I was beyond easy and seamless, on top they were very accommodating. Once we arrived, we checked in, which the staff was beyond sweet and helpful, great hospitality. The resort is in a prime location, extremely easy and quick to get to the downtown area, state parks, and the interstate highways - cannot complain. The room was cozy but a tiny bit dirty, I did find hair in the shower and on sheets at arrival. When we arrived at the room, we had a small roll of toilet paper but the next day the housekeeper made sure to leave two new rolls. The bed was comfortable and there was no noise, the walls are thick. The one thing I did not like, when we left the windows and doors closed but when we returned the cleaning left a window open, that is a big no for me. It pleasant they offer complimentary breakfast, but it is not your average breakfast of bacon, eggs, potatoes, and toast. There wasn't many options close to downtown that were available or reasonable. I found Beachway for $150 a night compared to $300+ for a room just across the water. After reading lots of reviews, I booked and crossed my fingers. We arrived and were greeted by Cathy at the front desk. So sweet and informative! Walked me through everything we needed to know - front desk hours (she was staying the night so would be available for emergencies and ring the bell if needed! So sweet), breakfast area with coffee, donuts, and fresh fruit, and all the amenities they had - games, movies, snacks, etc. They walked me to the room to make sure I knew where it was and to show me around. I had left a note in our reservation about it being our Anniversary and the staff left us a bottle of Prosecco and some nuts - SO sweet and totally unexpected. The room was small - as was described - but very clean and well maintained. The bed, two nightstands, small dresser, TV, and shelf with hangers was in one area of the room and the other half had two chairs, small table, & the sink area outside of the actual bathroom. The sink had a hand towel, makeup towel (black so not to stain easily from makeup - great idea), blow dryer, 2 bars of soap, shampoo, conditioner, and 2 makeup wipes. (no lotion). The bathroom has a door and was recently remodeled - toilet and small shower with a curtain. The renovation was VERY well done, but the shower is pretty small (but tall). We did not use the pool but it appeared to be heated - we hardly saw anyone using it but it appear clean and well maintained. There are lots of decks with ample seating to hang out and watch the activities across the channel. The location is great! short 8-10 min drive to downtown Saugatuck or Douglas. Chain Ferry is a block away and super convenient - and charming! Oval beach is a short 5 minute drive away (walking distance but very hilly and no sidewalks - it's mostly through the woods) My ONLY complaint about the Beachway is the fact that there is no individual temperature controls in the rooms - it is an older establishment that looks retrofitted into individual rooms so everyone must be on the same run. It got a little stuffy in our room, so we opened the windows at night. It was cool outside but the cool air didn't' seem to come in at all. There also is no fan in the room to move the air. So, I would recommend bringing fans if you can. We were on the floor above the lobby so maybe other areas don't have this issue. I did see comments in other reviews about paper thin walls and hearing everything - while I would agree, we didn't find it to be an issue as there didn't seem to be many guests. Out door didn't close flush so at night you could see light coming through from the hallway - even with that we didn't hear people out and about. Overall, this is a charming place that we definitely said we'd bring our kids back to! For a couple traveling for their anniversary looking for a place to just lay their heads, it worked out extremely well!
