Matt was nice person, and I had no issue when did the duct cleaning. However, once he left. We found the bathroom power is totally out. We thought it was light bulb issue. It turn out the circuit breaker is broken because Matt plugged in one of his cables into the bathroom outlet, and caused the outage. Fyi to potential customers. Per the dept of L&I this business is not licensed. Their license was suspended 4/9/16. They have multiple fines since that date for continuing to perform work when not registered as a contractor as required. When I advised an employee of my findings they didn't offer any clarification or valid UBI number to show they have an active license. I then canceled my service request. I posted a review much like this one on Google and the owner responded stating my findings were correct however the business does have an active license. I responded asking for the UBI number and the owners response was to remove his company from Google. These are not actions of an ethical business owner. I got a Living Social deal via WA Air Care, but apparently they sub contract it out. But luckily I got StarDucts - Shimon (Aka Simon) came out and let me know that I had a situation that needed immediate attention. Apparently when I remodeled my house, the general contractor didn't prevent saw dust from entering the registers, needless to say my ventilation system needed a complete overhaul in terms of cleaning. He was very nice and didn't hard sell me, he showed me pictures and he was right - it was extremely dirty. He recommended for me to disassemble the furnace and really get to the dirt. I agreed. I haven't had my air ducts clean in about 8 years or so. You can imagine how much dust is collected in the air ducts. I called this company I found them on Google set up a appointment to come out their schedules are pretty open and they respond in a timely matter. The person who arrive was Simon very friendly nice person. My issue with this company is I felt like they didn't clean my air ducts properly. Simon hook up a hose to one of my downstairs vents and proceeded to clean the air ducts. The total cost of my air ducts to get clean itself was $495 it only took a hour. The only thing that was clean were the vents the vents only for that price. Simon stated it would be about $200-$260 extra on top of the furnace cleaning and where the cold air returns is. Now you think it would all be included in the air ducts cleaning itself it's not. I've call a few companies after they all told me that it wasn't properly cleaned and that I had to be careful of "scammers". They told me usually with air ducts cleaning normally the hose will be hooked up to the furnace because that's where all the dust is that's been built overtime years the cold air return/return air vents. Those are the main air ducts. They also said when do clean the vents all the dust gets pushes down and sucked by the hose that's suppose to be connected to the furnace, and not the vent. Scheduling was a breeze, he was prompt, professional, courteous, came on time and charged what we had agreed upon. He did extract a lot of lint from the dryer vent, so my vent was very linty I guess. The vent tubing in the house is a lot longer than what he cleaned (20+ ft vs 10-12 ish he might have cleaned. I wish he had cleaned both sides of the vent tube - the dryer side and the vent side. And the dryer itself. 15 mins and $200 later he was done. Complexity, ease of the job, and lack of thoroughness, I feel, didn't warrant $200. read more

Today is my first day moving into my newly bought house. The house had been rented out for more than 5 years and all the vents are so dirty. It looks like it hasn't been cleaned for 10 years! We just bought our new house last week and before the weather cooled down again wanted to have the ducts checked and cleaned out before we needed to use the furnace. I bought a deal on Angie's List through WA duct cleaning ( I think it was called) and got Simon from Star Ducts at my door. He was very friendly and accommodating to my cat who needed to be locked in the bathroom while he worked, and my son who was sleeping the first45 minutes he was here. When my parents put their home on the market they lived in for 35 years, they decided to have their air ducts cleaned. They showed up on schedule and cleaned the vents using what looked like a shop vac. Like other reviewers, they did try to get us to have extra cleaning done, but we opted out. I was really pleased with these guys. Simon was knowledgeable, experienced and helpful. We bought a Groupon which was 40 dollars. They came out and inspected the ducts and did some cleaning. They then ran a camera deep into the system and showed us inches of gunk left from many years of no service. Super nasty! It of course costs more to have the furnace taken apart and the entire duct system sanitized and cleaned but thats to be expected. The furnace motor was caked with gunk like the back of a hair dryer that has not been cleaned. That motor alone is 750 if it burns out which it was well on its way if we did not have them clean it. They cut costs all over the place because we bought the Groupon and we ended up paying 350 which made sense with all the work they did. Plus we got a gold filter out of the deal for free. It has not arrived yet and Ive read that some customers did not receive theirs so if thats the case I will write another review. If you buy the Groupon, you must realized that this is not a full package. read more

Purchased Groupon from Amazon Local. Simon came and I showed him where the smell was coming from, he took some pictures and strongly ecommended that a "deep clean" will clear up the smell. Since we are tenants, I said it had to be approved by the landlord who lives next door of the duplex. Few minutes later, Simon came back and announced that he is going ahead with the deep clean, I asked him if the landlord approved the deep clean, and specifically if the landlord is aware of the $600+ charge. Simon looked me in the eye and and said, "Yes". I asked him again if landlord is OK with it, and again Simon said "Ya." Issue #1 Unscrupulous/dishonest behavior. Then he got a hand held shop vac and proceeded to "deep clean" the A/Cintake where the horrendous musty smell was coming from. About 5 minutes later, he came downstairs and announced that he was finished and that there's no smell anymore. I was surprised how a "deep clean" could only take 5 minutes. But I figured he was the professional and should know what he's doing. Issue #2 Poor quality of service. He was spraying some kind of chemical, which I had asked the company multiple times NOT to do when I scheduled the appoint, because I have young kids. Issue #3: Disregarding client request/health hazard. I left to let him do the job. I researched the deep clean and it should take about 3 hours for a true deep clean. About an hour later, I returned, and Simon was already done and gone, but he left a trail of mess behind him. And most importantly, the smell was STILL there. Issue #4: Job NOT done. I connected with the landlord and thanked them for approving the deep cleaning, and they said that they were SHOCKED when Simon showed up at their door unexpectedly and even more shocked when he presented them with the bill. Issue #5 DISHONEST merchant. I called StarDucts, and Tina (bless her heart) tried to rectify the issue and said someone will came to make the smell go away. And I requested again, no chemicals, try to use natural ones because I have kids. A week later Simon shows up with, guess what, a CHEMICAL spray with a 1 star rating online that has been suspectedly linked to cancer. The spray did nothing except make the place smell like a toxic waste dump, but it didn't cover up the smell. Which is not what a consumer wants, I didn't want a cover up of the problem. I want the problem removed. Their van had a Better Business Bureau sticker on the back, so that made me feel like I can trust this company, but there are so many issues and I after the failed attempts to correct the problem, nothing is solved. If I could give negative starts, I would. I bought a Groupon since I have lived in my place for 10 years and not had the furnace or ducts cleaned. I was quoted a large amount to really clean the ducts - Um, ok this is what I thought they were here to do, not a light vacuum that wasn't even worth the cost of the Groupon. When I am on the spot, thinking I really should pay for a better cleaning (which I should), I did it. But only after they gave me a senior citizen discount since I thought the price was too high. I still feel I paid too much and am not that confident they even did a good job, or did what they said they were going to do. Lesson learned......should have done my research before they came to my home. I called to complain about the service, was given an email address to send the problems I had & was assured they wanted to know about the issues. Needless to say my email has gone unanswered. I did expect a reply apologizing and thanking me for letting them know, but nothing. This is the email: 1) Torn rug at entry - it's a berber style rug, not sure what tore it. 2) Dirty walls, by registers. I've had to put soon "elbow grease" into removing marks left on two walls. Still slightly visible. 3) 3 of 5 registers are upside down - I will need to change them all by manually, I don't have an electric screwdriver. 4) 4 of 5 were closed - when open they would point slightly up towards ceiling. I have a wood type that is always open & it was installed pointing towards the ceiling. I would think common sense would rule here. 5) Small hole in wall from drill bit while putting in screw & slipping off screw head. 6) The screw causing hole is at a drastic slant - not screwed straight in. To be honest this did make me mad. He knew he did this & didn't care, left as is. Terrible. 7) Extra Screw was on my counter, Simon told me basically is was no big deal. I saw it was 1 of 4 of the screws in the furnace. Took me literally 10 seconds to locate, he did not care to even try, it was just lefpt over - no biggie. 8) Left the dirty air filter on my dryer. 9) Left the air freshener packaging on my kitchen counter. BTW, those fresheners last one day. This afternoon, I smell very little. Very disappointed & now I am not sure the work was done well due to all of the above. *********Bottom line************* Save your money and do not use StarDucts. read more

They quoted me a price to deep clean my ducts and clean my furnace. I came home after my vents were "cleaned" and decided to check them out. I was VERY irritated to discover my vents were STILL DIRTY! Dirt and debris was in plain site when I took the cover off. If you hire these clowns make sure to check their work! Apparently the vacuum in the truck was broken but they still took my money! Only when I confronted them they said they wouldn't charge me. The service techs also tracked dirt and mud in my house. I guess they never heard of plastic shoe covers. They were going to offer me a complimentary cleaning for my trouble so I scheduled an appointment only to get a call back telling me the manager decided not to give out a free cleaning after all. I wish I had read the reviews before purchasing this Groupon because I so got ripped off! I just had the techs leave (09/18/2013 at 1:30pm). Like all the reviews, if I could give negative stars, I would! Here is what happened: - after half an hour already walking thru my house, the techs asked if they needed to put on the booties - Didn't even do any my basement vents - Missed one room upstairs that had two vents - Move all my furniture to get to the vents and didn't even put the furniture back after they where done - Left all the lights on in every room - Left my garage door open - Then quoted me a RIDICULOUS price of $1120 for a full cleaning! Really, you think I am stupid! I then went online, found a company that has 5 stars on Yelp and called him. He quoted me $375 for a full cleaning. Since I had the quote from StarDucts, I read him what I needed and he said yes, $375 is what we charge so I booked him instead! Don't get ripped off. Don't even purchase the Groupon! I never write reviews like this but I have to say something about Simon and Starducts. I knew I needed my furnace and ducts cleaned, but I didn't know what that entailed. After a couple of hours shopping around and calling for quotes, the girl at Starducts gave me the best price for cleaning the ducts and "inspecting" the furnace. She booked an appointment for me about a week out. The technician arrived a little early and said he wanted to inspect first. I followed him around while he checked everything out and took some pictures, showing me the insides of my ducts, which were absolutely filthy. Wow we've been breathing that! Long story short: The expected "upsell" came next, but everything mentioned really did need to be done. I ended up paying more than what I was originally quoted but I knew this would happen as there was alot more work needed than what I'd told them over the phone. At one point I suggested replacing some of the ducting (it didn't need to be replaced) just to see if he would jump at the chance to make a few more dollars on the job but Simon said the ducts were fine and simply needed to be cleaned, not replaced. An honest guy! The work was done perfectly and there was no mess in my house when Simon was done. I am impressed by his diligent and professional manner. I was abit "pesky" following him around and asking alot of questions. He patiently educated me as to what he was doing and why. He seems very sincere, and an honest person. At no time did i feel like I was being "tricked" or pressured into buying things I didn't need. I would have given Starducts a 5 star review except for the fact that they wouldn't come out on Saturday...I had to take a half day off work to get the service done. Made an appointment about 3 weeks in advance, got a voicemail from them the day before the appointment confirming... and then no show/no call from them for the appointment. I tried to call the office when there was about 45 minutes left in the appointment window... no answer and no callback from the (multiple) voicemails that I left. I took the afternoon off from work and wasted 2 hours waiting around for them. Where are more than 5 stars when you need them ! :) These guys really rock. I got the contact through a random groupon pick for air duct cleaning and did not expect much, but I got a very professional, helpful person cleaning my air ducts. I have heard that air duct cleaners close all vents and suck all the debris from a single vent, but this guy, Leon, went through every duct meticulously cleaning. Then he showed me the dirt in my furnace and intake. Got me a great deal on it. I had a loose sensor in my furnace that caused it to malfunction. He took the time to get the sensor from a store and fixed it for free. Great and excellent service and I am recommending them strongly to our home owners association for all to use. If you have a vacuum and a hose you can do your own air duct cleaning as well as this company is actually willing to do for a groupon. They will tell you themselves that it doesn't actually clean the air ducts. If you're willing to pay a lot more they will actually clean your air ducts with specialized tools. Their opening schpeil is "Oh what this groupon covers is a light maintenance cleaning (specified nowhere on the groupon) which will do nothing for you. I wouldn't want you to waste your money..."
