Did a great job, didn't have enough cash on hand to pay due to unexpected cost increase (our dryer vent run is unique in that it's 10-15ft long and had to be cleaned from both ends) and StarDucts was willing to follow my husband to the ATM to get more cash. As a Real Estate Professional I am very discerning about who makes it into my database. Simon with StarDucts was "Johnny on the Spot". We called on a Friday morning when an important listing was just about to come on the market. A terrible smell was coming from the crawl space and Simon was there in a matter of hours. He first identified where the smell was the strongest via the registers in order to focus his attention on the offending area, He not only found evidence of rodents, but also found a large live racoon with her litter. This could have seriously damaged the sale. Needless-to-say, we postponed live date to get some work done. Simon even helped take the signs down which saved me another trip out. I was delighted to see that Amazon Local had an online coupon for Air-Duct Cleaning & Cold-Air Return inspection b/c I was looking for a vendor to do exactly that. Upon receipt of the voucher, I phoned StarDucts to schedule about 2 weeks out. Today was my appointment in a 2 hour window. With 1/2 hour left in the window, and no word from them, I proactively called them. The receptionist told me that I was not on the schedule "for some reason." She then confirmed my cell phone # and proceeded to tell me that she had called the day before and "the man who answered" had canceled my appointment on the basis that the service had recently been performed by another vendor. This is a completely fabricated story b/c I have a password on my cell phone that no one else has access to and all of my calls yesterday are accounted for with names from my own Contacts list. So when I confronted her of how that wasn't possible, and if she made a mistake FINE, just let's move on, she told me that she didn't like my "tone," and refused to reschedule me, and directed me to Amazon for an "optional" refund. So I went to Amazon and they are processing the refund, but of course no one can compensate me for the time that I took off of work this afternoon to be home for the appointment that was mishandled. Perhaps the technical service with StarDucks is good, but if they can't get an appointment set properly, nor set up a functional confirmation process, and then insult me by fabricating stories in a cover-up attempt to shift their own administrative ineptitude upon me when I did NOTHING wrong....it's hard to trust that the technical work will be done properly either. This company is a total scam. Their process is ridiculous. Do your research on the right way to clean your duct system, and also remember you generally get what you pay for. They basically blow air from the outside through your ducts and claim that no dust actually re-enters the house, only the fresh air??? Then they take a shop vac and get the "big stuff" that their hose can reach. I wouldn't call blowing all the crap from my ducts back into my house "cleaning". Advertised as being a Green company which is of some importance to us. After purchasing the Groupon ad for 49.00 we prepared ourselves for the imminent upsell and it was large! After they stuck cameras with pipes down our ducts to show us how disgusting and dirty they were. Bit the bullet and had them do their work. 3 hours and 1000.00 + tax later we were left with black soot covering most everything in the house. The main complaint was their use of a sanitizer/deoderant that activated when the furnace was turned on which caused my throat to close, coughing and my eyes and nose to drain. They didn't explain that chemicals were to be used. When I called their office to inquire about the chemicals that were causing such a reaction, the woman promised to call me right back and that was the last I heard. If it were possible to give this company no stars in this review, I would. I also bought the voucher on Amazon local for an air duct cleaning. Within the first minute of entering my home they tried to upsell us by literally 20 times the price of the voucher--RIDICULOUS! Then when they heard that we were not going to buy any additional services they were gone in minutes. They spent a total of about 20 minutes cleaning all of the ducts in my 3 story home-- impossible for them to have done a good job. Well my laundry room was getting stupidly hot despite me only using the dryer once every week or 2, which I read means you're supposed to get your dryer vents clean. I just searched yelp for vent cleaning and sorted by who had deals. This one seemed really cheap and their website wasn't sketchy (which is important to me) so I booked a few weeks in. To me this place is kind of like getting that awesome free 5 course meal at a place that's trying to sell you time shares. They tried desperately to upsell me several times to things that I didn't need. The guy coming in kind of insulted my home and tried to convince me I needed WAY more work done all over the garage/laundry space. However, I just said no. He was a little huffy, But I got 100 dollar job done for 30, and since the air has been cooler and cleaner since they came in, I don't really have complains about the service regardless of what tool they used. At 2:39 I call the relay/office to get an ETA and am told 1) that they had 2 to 4pm as the scheduled time and 2) that the guy had called 15 minutes ago saying he was 30 minutes away, so that he would be arriving in about 15 minutes. An hour goes by: no arrival, no courtesy call. I call up, irrate at the discourtesy. Am told he is 'in traffic' and would I like him to call me. Yes. Five minutes later he calls to say he is way far away from me on another job. I ask why then would he have said he was on his way and would be arriving soon. He said he never said that. So someone is lying, and whoever it is, works for or represents this company. He asked if I still wanted him to come, and I said Yes, come! come! but be prepared to compensate me for the time I've wasted. A bit later the woman calls to say the guy doesn't want to come, that he said I didn't want him to come (absolutely not true), that she/or he spoke with the owner (but would not give his name), and had spoken with Living Social to refund my money. I will write again if that doesn't come through. The business is unreliable and dishonest. Frankly, I don't see how they are going to remain a going concern. We own a huge, funky and very confusing house! lol With THREE furnaces I was expecting to pay an arm and a leg to have our furnaces serviced. I've had other companies out to our home.... and no one could tell me why two of our furnaces ran constantly. Simon came out and spent ALL day here cleaning our FILTHY furnaces, ducts, pipes, etc. I've never seen such thorough work before! He took everything apart. And I mean everything! It turns out that our furnaces were SO dirty that they kept running in an attempt to circulate clean air from outside. That's just gross! Our furnaces our now working correctly and I can sleep better knowing that our children aren't breathing in the crap that was in our air. And I bet you anything that we will recoup the cost of the cleaning on our energy bill in no time! Simon was extremely patient and took his time explaining everything to me.... as well as documenting everything with very detailed pictures throughout the entire day. He gave us an amazing deal for having 3 furnaces and 2 heat pumps! He explained to me what was necessary to do now and what we should have done in the near future. He did NOT push me into buying anything extra and he was super honest and kind. Most of all.... he was patient! We bought a coupon from Amazon too for air duct cleaning. Instead of vacuuming the dusts out of the house, the technician blew dusts into our house! He said it was a new machine and he hadn't got a chance to try it yet. We then called them to come a second time to do another proper cleaning. The second technician came out, and we found he had the same machine and was going to blow dust into the air too! We stopped him and called the number on the voucher many times. Each time the lady was very nice to us and told us the manager or the boss will call us back in an hour. No one ever called back. When we called back the next time, the lady would apologize and promise a call back in an hour. Nothing happened. We are totally disappointed and want to warn others about this company. read more

My experience is much like others listed here: The guys came and "inspected" my system to show me pictures of spiders and dust (um, yeah, it's under the house after all) and went on to tell me how bad this was for me. They pitched a $1000 bill for proposed services to me, which pretty much means I paid for a voucher so that they could come and vacuum my bank account. To their credit, the guys were personable and when I pushed back on their suggestions either backed down or greatly discounted their initial offer. I won't be a repeat customer, that's for sure, and if you are thinking about trying them out, I'd recommend you go elsewhere and save some $$$ read more

This may possibly be the worst experience I've had with a home services company. They billed me for services that damaged my furnace and put my home and family in a dangerous situation. To be fair...they did reimburse me for the money I spent fixing the damage they did. My wife arranged for the service and was at the home when they arrived. She purchased a duct cleaning by was up sold upon their arrival for a furnace cleaning. Once the services were performed StarDucts and my wife left the house. When we returned he furnace was not working...in November. After multiple calls to StarDucts technician and manager they finally agreed to send out a furnace repair technician and pay for the service...good news...we thought! But...the furnace repair technician couldn't get a hold of Star Ducts so he didn't know our address or the issue so it took him 4 days to get to our house...which he finally did on a Sunday. He appeared to be very nice and very disappointed in Star Ducts...as we agreed with him. However...he then proceeded to work on the furnace and after I checked on him a few times he said that the furnace was beyond repair, too old for parts and we needed it replaced. But be because he was such a nice guy he cut off the safety mechanisms so that we could have heat. No prior notice or agreement from the me the home owner to bypass the safeties...he just did it! Oh and by the way he had a great deal on a new furnace that was only going to last 24 hours. What a guy!!! Within 45 minutes of him leaving I had a very strong odor in my house and my 5 year old daughter and I were complaining of headaches. I went out to check the furnace and it was so hot I couldn't even touch it, the interior wall next to the furnace was hot to the touch and the odor was horrible. I immediately shut off the furnace and hired my own technician to come take a look the next day. The technician that I hired came out and immediately fixed everything that StarDucts had done to the furnace and their technician. I've had no problems since...they were GREAT!! I then called StarDucts and informed them of the whole situation...after playing phone tag with the supervisor, technician and receptionist for multiple days and dealing with their internal confusion and miscommunication. They did reimburse me for the technician that I hired but did not refund me for the so called services they performed. In closing, I have no hard facts to confirm this allegation and it is solely my opinion but I am suspicious that Star Ducts and the furnace technician they hired are involved together in a way that is taking advantage of customers and selling them products they do not need. Purchased a Groupon from WA AirCare apparently they outsource. In the past, I have not had a great experience from dryer vent and furnace cleaning servicers as they have been overly aggressive in upselling. Not the case with StarDucts, Simon was very kind and helpful. Gave us a fair price on extra service not included on the groupon for removal of bird nest in one of the vents. Simon as offered recommendations to prevent birds from accessing the vents as well. read more

ZERO STARS! Don't waste your time with these people! We had an appointment scheduled for these guys to come out on Sunday Jan 6 between 4-6. Game day I might add. (Seahawks vs. Redskins) Conveniently right after the game was over, which was right at 4, we get a call from the guys that were supposed to come out cancelling the appointment saying there was an "emergency" they had to deal with. (right) They said someone would call us from the office on Monday to reschedule the appointment. I was really mad because I made sure all of my vents were accessible and ready to go for them. My husband ended up calling the office on Monday and told the gal who answers calls the story. She apologized and offered to give us some special filter worth $100 bucks but the husband was still not happy. She was to have the manager call us but we have yet to hear back from them a week later. Bad business?? or bad workers?? I bought a groupon for a duct cleaning and furnace inspection. As expected with any coupon, they wanted to upsell me. I live in an old house and expected to need more work than a quick cleaning. Upon inspection they found multiple issues all of which they repaired. The lead technician, Shimon, was very kind and took time to explain how everything worked and why it needs to be cleaned. My only complaint is that the groupon says that it includes a filter, this filter is just an airfreshener, not a replacement filter. read more

Should be even lower....scam...scam.....scam...I was so so disappointed...they came in with a shop vac...mine was right in the living room I could have done the work myself...they checked the furnace and said it was dirty,,,they did put in a new filter...cheapo one...they never looked at the dryer..they showed me pictures of dirt in the return vent and left all sorts of dust outside of it when they left..I really do not think it was my system that they showed me..after they left.we checked inside and the lint they showed us was there...all balled up they quoted us a senior rate for additional work..$500 plus...I went out to the garage to get something in the freezer and came back to find them gone...they never left the work quote...I do not think they did any vent work except for one vent...what a waste...by all means do not...do not...do not work with this company..nothing was really done....c'mon...a shop vac????? read more
