Not impressed with the Unicorn drink. It tastes like plain milk and mine wasn't pink and blue :(
Steven B.

It's hit or miss with this location. Usually the drive-thru wait times are decent, but the last few drinks I've ordered were poorly made. I used to go here daily and made an effort to get to know the staff (even bring them presents like Bluetooth speakers around the holidays), but with the exception of James no-one else took the time to learn my drink or name. Today I thought I'd return to try the Unicorn Frapp but as usual was disappointed. The drink is supposed to be pink and blue, but mine was only pink and tasted like plain milk? I went to another store a few blocks down to change it and they said it wasn't made properly but they couldn't fix it because they ran out of stuff. I used to love this spot so much, but the standards have been slipping.

The dude was very nice and he matched the vibe and didn't judge me for licking the sugar packet. #love

I had an iced caramel latte and it was one of the best lattes I've had in a while. Perfect sweetness + enough of a caramel taste without being undrinkable. All the baristas I have interacted with have been very nice. It's a smaller space and the music is quite loud - not a great place to study, but I didn't mind grabbing my coffee and going. Will definitely be back.

Unfortunately, by the time I started drinking it, the temperature was just a bit cooler than I prefer. I like my hot drinks to be at least 130°F. There wasn't much in the way of pastries or Danish that day, so I skipped having something to go with my tea. Service: Friendly and helpful service at the counter. Atmosphere: The café was about half full, with people quietly working on laptops or enjoying conversations with friends. Sugar, the shop cat, was wandering around as usual, and this time I was able to spend a little quality time with her. She's getting older and seems a bit frail, but she really enjoyed a good scratching under the chin. Another enjoyable visit, and a place I'd return to.

This place. WOW. Never have I seen/found anything else quite like Idyll anywhere; and by Milwaukee…read morearea standards, this place is quite unique. Located in a LARGE building on a very busy street (North Ave at 64th Street), parking at times can be a bit dicey, but it's worth the trouble. There are a few parking spots in the rear along the alleyway, as well as street parking where you can find it. As mentioned, the place is big by "coffee shop" standards, I'm talking HUGE. Two stories, with gorgeous lighting, large bright windows (always a plus in Wisconsin), lots of places to hunker down and chat with friends or study (it's big with the local medical college/office crowd), or just to spend some time on one's computer, or reading a good book. I will say the atmosphere at times is not very conducive to concentration or anything overly "zen"--it can be a rather boisterous place when it gets going--with lots of chatter and background music. The interior is very "Scandi modern:" lots of light woods, gorgeous furniture, interesting artwork, and lots of greenery, while still being somewhat minimal in flavor. There are lots of little areas and nooks to hang out in, as well as a few outdoor tables in front of the building. They have two useful entrances: in front (with stairs), as well as a more low key rear entrance (with ramp). Inside there's a large stairway to the 2nd floor, as well as elevator access. Clean bathrooms and a product area offering various coffees, mugs, and other coffee/Idyll ephemera, also help with the overall atmosphere. It's cozy, while feeling open at the same time; if they were aiming for "hygge," I think they nailed it. The owner/designer apparently spared no expense when it came to making Idyll truly a "destination" location. One of the most interesting bits at Idyll is a large interior window wall where one can watch the roasting process in real time (when available). That being said, the coffee itself is fantastic, of course, complete with a ton of flavor varieties. Knowing their coffee is roasted right there in house is a plus. Knowing that it's also woman-owned, with art by real artists, is an even bigger plus. As far as their food choices, they're kind of "meh" IMHO. Very standard coffee shop fare: light breakfast/brunch items: avocado toast, eggs, danish, salads, etc. Might do them well to add other more robust or unique menu items going forward; however, I'm guessing the majority of patrons are there for the coffee, the company, and the atmosphere. Overall, this is quite an amazing place, one that (as their website states) makes me long to go back again as soon as possible!

What I especially appreciate about Idyll is the quality and consistency of the hot beverages their baristas make. The mochas and London Fogs have the right balance of flavors, the foam is very good, and the drinks are served hot and finished nicely with some decent latte art. My go-to place if I'm in that part of town.

This location is medium size shop, with a long bar like counter for ordering. It has some natural light from large windows in the front, and some more windows in the rear. You can find seating both inside at small tables, or outside on cafe size tables. (the back is secluded which would be nice on a warmer day). On this visit, I ordered a London Fog Latte, and tried one of their fresh Cinnamon Knots with Icing. They did a great job with the London Fog (little vanilla, little lavender, extra foam). First time trying the Cinnamon Knot, which they warmed up. I really enjoyed all of the dough layers, with generous amounts of cinnamon. (The icing itself was more of a distraction, it was hard and simply flaked off). From the looks/sounds of things, there are many regulars that stop in for quick up or mug refill. Lots of friendly chatter happening throughout. It appears to be a local favorite. Would definitely come back.

It's not often that I discover a new-to-me shop but somehow Cafe Blue just wasn't on my radar. I just missed them somehow. Well, no longer! This spot became a new favorite in one visit. Came here on a Saturday morning for some coffee, eats, and hoping to play a game or two of cribbage with my favorite cribbage opponent. Cafe Blue is a small coffee shop but they do have several tables and a comfortable vibe. They have a signature coffee drink menu, from which I ordered their snickers latte (as sweet and delicious as it sounds). For my breakfast, I opted for their breakfast quesadilla, which comes with choice of meat or veggies (I opted for sausage). It was ample, fresh made, and delicious. As I mentioned, they're a small shop. When we were in, there was only one person working. So that one person was working as barista, cook, and cashier. So, did our drinks and food take a few minutes? Yes. Did we care? Not at all. And, the drinks and eats were both worth the wait. This spot is definitely serving up one of the best fast casual coffee shop breakfasts in the Milwaukee metro as far as I'm concerned. Get to it!
