Met a friend here to grab a coffee. Good fast service but it was busy and was challenging to find a table. Note that parking can be a pain in this strip mall.

Grande shaken espresso, not even filled up to the top. Disappointed!

Located directly at the corner of S. Second St and E. William St, this family owned-and-operated coffeeshop is in the heart of downtown. Parking here during any given day can be quite challenging; especially during the workweek as there are various offices around here as well as being in close proximity to San Jose State University. Business hours are 7am-4pm seven days a week. I came here during the morning of Friday 9/4/2026 at around 10:00am. Fortunately I was able to find a nearby parking spot but as a reminder, meters are everywhere. The exterior of the business showcases their business name complete with several planter boxes, colorful outdoor seating, and umbrellas to shield out the sun. The interior is small and quaint yet there is still ample seating for roughly two dozen customers. It is one of the smaller coffeeshops I have been to and can get quite loud. So if you're focused on studying or conducting a virtual meeting, this may not be the place for you. Since I was saving my appetite for breakfast somewhere else, I ended up ordering a drink. And to those that have been here highly praised their "Pandan Latte". This is Asias answer to a vanilla latte as they use sweetened pandan-infused extract to give it a very unique taste. I chose 2% milk and wanted to go with an iced version as it was a relatively warm summer morning. This place does offer many more unique offerings that include lattes made with banana cream. Piloncillo coffee (widely known as café de olla), and Madagascar flavors. Keep in mind that this place does not accept cash so make sure you have your cards ready to go and of course, they take Apple/Google Pay. I will say that my Pandan Latte was made to absolute perfection as the taste was not too sweet and not too bitter. The service was also above average as this small business had a very festive vibe to it. I also wanted to add that they sell a nice assortment of whole bean coffee, teas, and other various merchandise on their website, https://www.academiccoffee.com/ as well as in their brick-and-mortar stores. Furthermore, they opened a second location on Winchester Blvd/Forest Ave right near Valley Fair Mall in Santa Clara. With excellent service, prime location, and delicious beverages, I am giving "Academic Coffee" in San Jose a perfect five-star rating.

Holy moly, why didn't anyone clue me into this place?! This is a true Parisian patisserie unassumingly on the corner of Meridian and Hamilton in a fairly rundown strip mall. It's a tiny shop with barely any seating, so plan to take your bounty home with you. The butter croissants (the only way to measure) are crisp, flaky heaven. They have a spread of other pastries but it's hard to choose anything different. Dare I say my favorite croissant in the South Bay, and reasonably priced too! Cherry on top is that they serve Chromatic Coffee, and the lattes are excellent. It's a new weekend staple for us.

I also thought it was really sweet. How this quaint little shop had a bunch of regulars in it!! As I entered, the gentleman behind the register greeted me and another customer came in and he knew that Customer by me. So cute!! I will definitely be back here again to get some more pastries at such a great pre-pandemic price!! I hope they start making sandwiches or other types of food items!!

With some coffees a second cup will give me a stomach ache (especially since I drink my cold brews black and bitter like my soul), but I had no problems with their cold brews! I also got the vegan stonefruit scone (baked by Sweet Dragon) and while a little on the dry side (common with scones), paired extremely well with the coffee and had good flavor. Husband got a cappuccino and a strawberry mini pie and was extremely pleased with his order. The service is friendly, but some things may have been new on the day we went. They almost forgot my cold brew until we asked at the counter, as well as stating that they didn't have anything to heat up my husband's strawberry pie (which seems odd, since a little toaster oven seems like a simple fix for that), but apparently it was fantastic at room temperature anyway. Seating was absolutely full when we got there and we were lucky to snag a table as another couple left, so it seems like a popular Saturday morning spot. Several folks were working on laptops, and it seems like a kid-friendly place. The decor is a clean and modern/trendy industrial style, which works well for the space, and the windows provide nice daylight. Overall, a good coffee shop and I am really happy to see vegan pastry options! My husband is getting into pinball, which was part of the motivation to come out and try Chromatic, so I am sure we'll be back again next time he wants to hit up Slingshot (in the same building), and I look forward to the coffee and treats!

UM. Absolutely loved this place!…read more My sister and I went here last Monday for a breakfast moment at around 9am. She heard a lot of great things about this place online. I ordered their iced matcha cream top with oat milk while my sister ordered the seasonal apple matcha (I think it was apple pie?) with oat milk. Matcha was good, and definitely better than other matchas I've had at other brunch places. BUT if you are comparing it to actual cafes that specialize in matcha, would skip to be honest. It was great to try and it's pretty rare to find a brunch place that does well with everything (drinks, food, and ambiance) unless you're in LA or NY. For food, we ordered the ricotta toast, this peach pastry, & birria breakfast burrito. EVERYTHING was a 10/10. No notes. The eggs used were fresh - there's no weird aftertaste with the ricotta toast. I'm usually wary with eggs after an experience I had in NY but this place made their eggs perfectly. The birria breakfast burrito was the star of the show! Seating was easy! There's indoor and outdoor seating. We both brought our laptops though I read most of the time. Can't wait to come back!
