    Starbucks refresher
    Bobbie C.

My fav Starbucks since I moved to Raleigh years ago! They can be super busy in the mornings and the parking lot is the worst but the service is amazing and they are so friendly, always remembering the names of their routine customers. My drink is typically always good but when it's a bit off, they always remake it without a problem.

Starbucks are all much the same (which is a GOOD thing if the quality is good, ha ha!). The differences usually lie in the decor, parking, seating and so on more than the actual drinks. Oh, and the service... due to the younger staff, there's almost always an astonishingly high turnover rate at most of their stores... more on that in another review! The staff was up to snuff, the drinks were fine (the six of us got a wide variety and all were prepared well) and the store wasn't too crowded. This particular store has more seating than most so that was pleasant but the chair they DO have might not be the most comfortable as half of them are tall chairs (see my pic) and if you don't like that, you might not enjoy it as much. The other seats are of a more regular size, plus there's outdoor areas for when the weather is nice. The one real downside to this location is the parking is tight and you can hit your undercarriage getting in and out of it. With traffic on that street sometimes being a bit busy, you might be tempted to rush it until you hear that awful scraping sound. Still, if you keep that in mind, you should enjoy your visit here!

Possibly one of the "chill"est Starbucks I've been to. It's fitting that this store is off of Peace Street. I remember always driving past it when I used to live in Raleigh and noting to myself to actually visit it. Lo behold, finally, I've ventured inside it. Pretty big space with alot of seating, so bring your laptops or a book and pop a squat! They also have one of the most vast selections of starbucks paraphernalia I've seen in a store. The items varies from recipe books to tumblers. On nice days, I would recommend sitting outside. There's a nice bench (looks handbuilt along with umbrellas to keep you shielded from those harmful UV rays. The sun ain't loyal. I remember being frustrated at finding a table since all of them were marked with the handicap logo. I thought it was only for handicap people but after consulting with an employee, they just said that it's handicap friendly. If you're looking for a quiet starbucks, this isn't one of them. It gets pretty busy and there's people constantly running in and out of the store. However, I would definitely recommend this starbucks for people watching and vibing in a casual environment.

This location is so small but so cute and cozy. The bathrooms were clean and I was able to get my order quick. They pay attention to the name tags and say your name making you feel special. This location does have a drive thru and they offer outdoor seating that's covered.

Great location. Right beside Mellow Mushroom. Who doesn't love the smell of coffee and pizza together? haha. The employees here are great at making drinks and are friendly to everyone that's nice to them. There's a large group of regulars that come here every day. It's the perfect place to hang out after dinner.. or to study for final exams like what I did. Here's a cool fact: An old woman drove her car into the side of the building destroying one of the windows near the entrance. The employees kept the hood ornament of her car after it was towed away. LOL. Fyi - There is free wi-fi. You need to activate a starbucks gift card and register it online. The login information is what you use to connect to the at&t internet connection.

    Great atmosphere!

This Starbucks rocks! There are about 4 or sometimes 5 young workers in the back looking to make fast, but delicious beverages. The vibe inside is super friendly. Everyone pretty much knows each other and can often be chatty, good place to get a break from my home office! I noticed that you can order on the app, not have to even wait in line to pay, and grab your coffee fast. These people simply walk in and walk out. The parking can be a bit hectic in this lot so be careful if you're pulling in fast. If you're looking to get some work done there are plenty of outlets and tables, and I noticed that the wifi is reasonably fast also. You do not need a password, the google starbucks wifi should pop up immediately when you open your internet browser (people ask me about this all the time). Hope this helps!

Good clean spot, and me of their older locations so it's a fairly tight space but seating is never an issue. Staff is welcoming and friendly. Super fast service, I was in and out within 5 mins!

Small batch coffee of my day made out of the Clover, Starbucks answer for a barista...
    Joseph K.

I like coffee black. That way I can taste what I order. And a good coffee bean is key to manifested deliciousness. My previous history with Starbucks neglected this important ingredient, hence leaving me sour, bitter and feeling a little burnt. Then the Clover was introduced. The Clover, for those that know not, is somewhat of the barrista's industrial arch nemesis. I remember a cartoon of Paul bunion and his blue ox becoming obsolete by the scrawny inventor who created the chainsaw. I always felt bad and sided myself with the bunions of the world but for this machine at its convenient local to my work, and my desire for the tasty rawness of really good coffee, I'll make excpection. The machine is a coffee brewing machine that uses very precise timing and water temperature in specific to the type of coffee and amount of bean used for each cup it brews. Through a vacuum press the exact bean-age, weighed by each barista... ish, is steeped and pressed creating a unique cup of coffee everytime. And the thing is consistant. The downside is no free refills and the price per cup is a bit steeper than the regular pikes place or Verona offered on the daily in their drips thermoses. The other great thing about this is that the choice between beans offers very significant options in regards to the flavor and body of the coffee. If I don't enjoy the Colombian El Piño I ordered today, tomorrow I could give their Colombian Montebonito or the Nicaraguan Cabo Azul a taste. With a plethora of different beans and the ability to craft each cup with a professional barista's expertise, Starbucks has found a way to compete with the good coffee makers of the world. However, I've only been to a couple of Starbucks that actually have this machine. Proving it's scarcity, I will stay skeptical of venturing to an unknown Starbucks but if the Clover is at work, I'd gladly enter mouth coffeeing.

The crispy shrimp were nice large shrimp and a spicy sauce with rice. I ended up using the rice with the crab claw sauce. And the dumplings were ok but I didn't eat many of them. They were my least favorite. I would come back to enjoy coffee and breakfast, but doubt I come back for dinner.

The downtown Raleigh location is fantastic too. It's right in the middle of everything, making it a great stop for a date night, meeting up with friends, or just dropping in for a quick but exceptional cup. Their seasonal menu was small but mighty -- just a couple of options -- but the kind where every drink looks so good you wish they'd never rotate them off the menu. I started with the orange cardamom flat white, and it was perfect in every way. Beautifully presented and incredibly balanced. The espresso, milk, orange, and cardamom all complemented each other without any one flavor taking over. It was nuanced, aromatic, and just a joy to drink. For my second drink, I ordered a Rodrigo Sanchez pour-over, a co-fermented Colombian coffee labeled with passion fruit notes. It was everything I want from a pour-over -- bright, juicy, and expressive, with the kind of sweet stone fruit and berry notes that make light-roasted coffee so exciting. Black & White continues to prove why they're one of the most respected specialty roasters around.
