Recently stopped in the Starbucks on Nassau, and I had a good experience. We were here for a recital concert and, after the drive down, needed a caffeine hit. The barista was cool when we ordered and our drinks were made well. My husband got a hot matcha latte and I went with one of the new fraps for a treat - Strawberry Matcha Strato Frappuccino. This is a good Starbucks especially if you're driving into Princeton and just need a pick-me-up. read more

I ordered a drink from the holiday menu on the Starbucks mobile app, but the staff told me it doesn't come with the red holiday cup -- even though it's clearly listed under the holiday season drinks. Ordered a Venti caramel macchiato. With extra whip and extra caramel. Received a grande with no whip. Ask the girl at the counter what size this is. She said grande. I told her nicely ( I am very patient) that I ordered a venti. She quickly said she'll fix it. She did. Except there ended up being almost NO caramel and still no whip cream. It's about 6:45 am. Maybe two customers besides myself there. Early morning. Not a lot of people in at the moment. So why is this employee so flustered? It's a shame. Stop the presses! Headline: Princeton Starbucks Serves Very Good Coffee to a Reluctant Customer. Story: Late last Saturday afternoon, as the sun sat low on the western horizon, a visitor to Nassau Street, Princeton, NJ, in need of caffeine after walking around town for hours, stopped in to the Starbucks on Nassau Street, in the heart of this historic college town. Expecting the normally burnt java beans to find their way into his cup, Jerry was pleasantly surprised to find the barista opening a fresh bag of Ethiopian beans, grinding them and doing a pour over through their Clover machine. It took a little time for the water to run its course, but the result was a superior cup of Joe - mellow and smooth, without acidity and dry, with a softer, almost walnut flavor with a hint of chocolate and currant. This was an amazing coffee, and our protagonist wondered if it could ever be repeated in any other Starbucks café. To be safe, he purchased a bag of beans for use at home. The store itself was crowded with students camped at tables for study, and tourists looking to prolong an excellent sunny day in January. No place to sit, but Jerry was buying "to go," and took his leave of the shop as soon as the proper amount of whole milk was poured into the cup to balance the anticipated harshness. When he discovered the taste was simply exceptional, and the milk wasn't really needed, he made a mental note to skip the cow juice when brewing at home. Really bad customer experience today. I had never been in this store and the layout is confusing, I waited in the wrong place while people went in front of me until I figured it out--staff just watched and laughed. I tried to order a drink, they are out of all dairy alternatives except coconut milk. That's okay, I will just get hot chocolate. I am overcharged for a different drink, she adjusts it, and then it's okay. After I pay, as I am waiting for my drink, I hear the barista say "Who would even order a plain hot chocolate? How do you make this?". She then had to remake it because of her own error. Disappointed that there wasn't a lot of compassion/kindness--I am not a frequent Starbucks goer, and this store is clearly only for people who here all the time. read more

This is one of a small handful of places in downtown Princeton to grab coffee, so it can get pretty crowded. During the school year, students camp out over laptops at just about every hour of the day, although at night it's usually a bit quieter. I don't even try coming on weekends, when students mix with the tourist crowd. I come here every once in a while, when I'm craving a sugary drink and don't necessarily need a place to sit. The seating area is oddly split into a front section with windows onto the street and a back section that's a bit more cave-like, with some armchairs tossed in with the tables. Drinks are pretty standard, and the people working here are pleasant -- kudos to them, given the traffic. I very much prefer Rojo's or Small World for drinks, or Cafe Vienna for a quieter space. But hey, when there's not much choice around, at least SB is another option. read more

Things to note: - It has very little seating. There are only a couple of normal sized tables in the front. There's a bar area facing Nassau St that can seat maybe 2-4 people. There are also four sofas and a couple of REALLY SMALL tables in the back. - They are also rather slow when it comes to serving people. We really need more than one Starbucks here. This has to be the most annoying starbucks. Working locally, the online ordering system is something i rely on so i can grab my coffee right before work. This location CONSTANTLY shuts off their online ordering. If you try to order in store, it can take over 20 minutes to get a simple coffee. Also, they like to close as early as 2 pm on most days and only recently extended it back to normal hours. This place needs new management and to not have the option to turn off online ordering. They are losing a lot of business this way and the locals are starting to seek coffee elsewhere. read more

This place is very crowded with students hogging the tables doing work. I noticed that the line dissipates after quarter to the hour and picks up again quarter after. Must be students getting their caffeine fix after class and then heading off to class. The bathrooms here are extremely dirty! There are no toilet tissues, paper towels, or electric hand dryers! "In a Pinch" It's 5:10 pm on a Monday, hardly rush hour time for a coffee shop and today is no exception. There is a young kid in line in front of me waiting on a strawberry frozen drink, there's me, and that's it for the line. No rush and yet the server chose to bend over and quickly grab the whipped cream dispenser from the rectangular busboy pan on the floor, half full of dirty dishes, and quickly use it and toss it back in. Her efficiency is noted, and in a rush I may have overlooked her choice. I manage to find myself trusting her judgement somehow because I can't handle the alternative. Especially at a Starbucks. But how hard would it have been to avoid the dirty dish pan on the floor and simple fetch a freshly prepared can? I'm glad I didn't need anything else in my 6 shot Americano. Who needs a Starbucks review? Anyways, between HYPs' starbucks, I rank this last (EVEN THOUGH SCHOOL-WISE, PRINCETON IS #1) The space is a little cramped, but its always kinda cozy. I always buy a medium coffee and ask for a large cup of ice - it makes roughly 1.5 large ice coffees per cup of medium hot coffee #protips. I NEVER thought I'd see the day when I gave my beloved Starbucks a bad review... but here goes. This location is a hot mess! Every time I stop in there is a crowd of customers standing around in a disorganized mob. The staff always seems disconnected, distracted, and troubled by customer requests. I went in this weekend and they were out of bananas. Two staffers rudely barked this at the girl in front of me, who was attempting to order a smoothie. They didn't even try to suggest something else or help her in any way. Most baristas would! In addition, its messy and in need of an update. Came here on a Sunday am because there was no room in Small World and I'm nearing the 30 visits required to get a Starbucks Gold card (as well as because I received quite a bit of Sbux gift cards for Xmas since my caffeine addiction is well known amongst friends). First piece of advice...don't come here on a Sunday morn. Barely any seats to be found, and I had to share the area near the window entrance (which is awesome for those who enjoy people watching, but not so much when you're trying to get work done). Also, there was a line 12-people deep when I get there. It's great that Princeton offers free street parking til 1 pm on Sundays, but trying to find a place to sit at any coffee shop in the area is horrendous prior. I come here all the time when I'm in Princeton. They have a pretty solid amount of seating with fairly good wi-fi. They take credit cards and Starbucks cards unlike many coffee places in Princeton that only take cash. Last time I was here they made an announcement that they ran out of ice. The man said it very rudely to the customers and that was a bit of a turn-off for me. So food and drinks are great just like any other Starbucks, and service isn't the friendliest. read more

Nothing but good things to say about this location. I used to come here in the mornings (around 7:30am prime time). The baristas were very nice. They really seemed like they cared about the customers. And being a regular, they knew my name - I appreciated that immensely. The wait is usually not bad. There are times when the lines a bit long (you can tell it's the newbie line up). At least the wait isn't atrocious... just a nuisance. Lattes taste great. The desks are full of students who will camp out for a a good 2-3 hours studying whilst they're are families and people who genuinely want to sit down to drink coffee or eat, but can't. Aside from that, the service is terrible. And terribly slow. I had to wait to give the barista my order because she was to busy having a conversation with another employee. The baristas are slow and loudly speaking which is irritating. I ordered a coffee that tasted really bad because the barista carelessly put way to much syrup in it. Couldn't drink it. A prime location for this Starbucks: it has always been so crowded we always get the coffee to go. I think their coffees were over-priced, but my hubby loved them...So, we have been going to Starbucks locations often. The restrooms were clean.
